  1. Raven looks at the young man in surprise as the smoke billows around her. "You are clearly not what you seem, but you are also clearly not the threat to harmony here." She bows to him slightly. "I am sure we will meet again, and then we will talk; but for now, you should get out of here." A faint shimmer can once again be seen around Raven, and she rises a couple feet in the air as she moves toward where the armed man last fired from. "Elements of dissonance must be dealt with." Upon emerging from the smoke, she stops moving and begins to mutter strange words as she gestures under her cloak. "Cry of the Raven!" She holds her hands out in front of her, and a black bolt of force streaks towards the armed man and misses him. Crud! Wound must be throwing off my aim.
  2. Here it is. Not so good
  3. Raven clears her throat. "Sorry for not responding to you earlier, Archangel, but I did recognize you. It's good to see you again." She then turns to Emissary. "I want to thank you for this opportunity. As for my capabilities, many of them are combat-oriented. I am trained in several martial arts, which is where most of my advanced defensive capabilities come from. My magical combat abilities are also extensive; I can shoot a magical blast at a single target or attack a small area at once. I can also temporarily blind someone. My most natural ability is to create a protective force field around myself that is strong enough to completely deflect many attacks. I also have the ability to fly, though I cannot typically keep up with cars on the interstate. I travel over long distances by teleporting. I can also displace my senses over great distances and experience what goes on there, what some call 'scrying'. I can also detect magical auras around me when I choose. I can also use my magic to completely conceal myself. Finally, I can create a telekinesis effect." She takes a deep breath. Can't really tell them the whole truth about why I'm here. Hopefully this will work. :My reasons for coming here are not terribly complex and are similar to Archangel's. I wanted the opportunity to find out more about the people with abilities living in this city and to meet new people. My knowledge of the city is still horribly lax, and I don't know many people here either. My other reason for being here is the other side of the coin; I simply wish to make myself known." Though she finds it a bit impolite, she bows slightly from her sitting position to indicate that she has finished speaking.
  4. I'm assuming we should wait to be prompted before describing our capabilities. Is that correct?
  5. Raven walks into the lounge and looks around. Ah, so Velocity is part of running these trials as well. She walks over and gives a slight bow, palms pressed together in front of her, first to the figure standing next to Velocity and then to Velocity herself. She drops the affectation in her voice but not her hood as she says, "Nice to see you again Velocity; thank you for having me here today."
  6. Posting her to let everyone know I'm watching. Are we being gathered in the entrance before tryouts or taken to the area as soon as we arrive? If the former, Archangel and Raven should probably recognize one another.
  7. "Well then let's move him down there then. I'll hover alongside in case there is any trouble. Raven makes strange gestures again and mutters strange words. As she finishes, she lifts off the ground a few feet and hovers there, pulling her hood back up, waiting for Archangel to deal with the criminal.
  8. "'Wizard' may not have a general negative connotation, but it does typically have a male connotation. Much as I sometimes do to hide my true sex so as to create an air of mystery, I would prefer the more gender-neutral term." Raven looks over to the criminal still laying unconscious on the roof. "That sounds like a good idea, Archangel; that would certainly make things easier on the authorities. My only concern would be if he were to wake up as you were attempting to transport him. I can fly, but I cannot support much more than my own weight when doing so. Should he struggle, there may not be much we can do to keep him from plummeting to the ground."
  9. Raven stands in her apartment, throwing her cloak over her shoulders as she glances at the clock. Guess it's time to get going, then. I'll get back to my scrying afterwards. She makes strange gestures with her hands, muttering strange words and bringing Freedom Hall into her head before whispering "Fly Through the Night." She appeared instantly in front of Freedom hall, a small smile on her lips in the depth of her hood. I do so love traveling like that. One of the few pleasures in my life. She strides in to the Hall quickly, and when the receptionist greets her, she answers, in the nearly sexless tone she likes to use in costume with people who don't know her, "I was invited to take part in the, I suppose you would call them 'tryouts' or 'trials', that are supposed to be taking place today. I would be grateful if you would direct me in the appropriate direction." She bows slightly, palms pressed together in front of her, after she finishes speaking.
  10. I originally rolled this for a Toughness save, but I spent my hero point to reroll. I believe I now have one bruise, one injury, and am stunned.
  11. Raven gasps as the bullet rips through her. Her breathing comes a bit heavy as reaches to touch the would and feels warm blood on her hand. The shock keeps her from taking other actions for a few seconds, but her feet touch the ground and a slight glimmer appears around her for a half-second before fading.
  12. Putting in for an update for Raven; it's an Alternate Power for Magic AP: Comprehend Languages 6 (Speak, understand, read, and write all languages; Tongue of the Raven; PF: Subtle 2; Duration: Sustained) I think Subtle 2 is what I use to make sure no one can pick up on the power being used. Raven will use this for study as well as trying to get a job as a translator, so she'll need to use it in her secret identity, and so I want it to be undetectable.
  13. "I am..." A small frown creases Raven' face. I suppose calling myself a monk would invite too many unwanted questions. Her frown disappears, replaced with a barely noticeable smile. "Yes, I have heard that those with talents like mine are called mages. Though I have also heard terms like 'witch', 'wizard', and 'warlock'. I must say, I prefer 'mage'. The others can have... negative connotations. Her grave tone turns to one of curiosity as she takes her first truly good look at the angelic figure before her. "Forgive me if this is impertinent, Archangel, but the myths and legends about angels are so varied. I would be interested in hearing about your capabilities."
  14. Raven allows her concentration on her Detect Magic spell to lapse, and anger flashes through her eyes under her hood. "I said subdue ONLY!" This time, her cloak parts as she extends her hands to gesture quickly, muttering different but similar strange words. The spell is completed this time with not a whisper, but a yell. "CURSE OF THE RAVEN!" Dark light streaks towards the man with the guns and strikes him in the eyes. She gives a small smile and the armed man is unable to dodge and glides back to the crossroads, activating her flight. She turns to the young man. "I won't let him kill you, but it seems we need to have a discussion."
  15. You probably know this, but the initial save on Dazzle is a Reflex save, not the Fortitude save I have listed in my DC block. It is a Fortitude save to overcome the effects if someone is affected, however. Again, you probably knew this, but I just thought I'd throw it out there
  16. Here's my Notice. I would think that would be enough to notice The Ghost, even behind me, especially with the gun raising and the magic sense. My initiative is 8, so I'll wait for Ghost to ask. Are we using the one initiative roll per combat rule here?
  17. Raven glances at the man's guns. "There's no garbage here; at least not the kind you are referring to. Harming, especially lethally, a fleeing opponent brings nothing but dissonance. My Freedom League status is immaterial; I'm not going to allow you to hurt him any more than is necessary to subdue him. If you pledge not to use lethal force, however, I will allow you to assist me in detaining him." She fixes him with a piercing gaze under her hood, waiting for a few seconds for a response.
  18. Map is very helpful, as is the info about the magic sense. Thanks
  19. An option could be to stage the feat; something like 1 rank gets you half your INT mod and 2 ranks gets you your full INT mod. If abuse is really a worry, you could instead cap the benefit, basically saying that intelligence only gets you so far without the dexterity to back it up, with the result being that someone could only get +5 or +10 or whatever is deemed appropriate above what they would get if they were using their dex mod(e.g., if the cap was +5, someone with an INT of 24(+7) and a DEX of 14(+2) would get the full benefit of his/her INT bonus (7-2=5), but a character with the same INT but a DEX of 12(+1) would only get +6 from the feat (7-1=6, which is over the cap, so it is reduced to the cap of 5). You could even use both if you were really concerned. Hope this helps!
  20. "Yes, waiting would seem to be something you're not used to. But I forget my manners. I know I already said this to you, Velocity, but nice to meet you." This time as Raven says it, she brings her palms and fingers flat against one another in front of her and gives a small bow. "Nice to meet you as well Archangel." Raven turns to Archangel and gives her the same bow before turning back to velocity. "I must say I'm fascinated by this STARS, I believe you called it. This is a unit of people without abilities trained to deal with those that do who break the law?"
  21. "I have heard some word of her. I assure you I meant no disrespect. I had no knowledge of her when I chose my name. Thankfully, I have heard our looks and abilities are quite different, so the opportunity for confusion is minimal." Raven cracks a small smile despite herself. "It's been a while since I've had a real conversation. This is... actually quite nice." She turns back to Velocity. "So, Velocity, your ability is speed? You can run fast enough to create a sonic boom?"
  22. That sounds reasonable; here would be my other question then. Would I need to take anything extra to use the "lesser" versions? For instance, even though I have the ability to speak in any language and be understood, if I wanted everyone to hear, say, Spanish, whether they could understand Spanish or not, can I do that? The same with writing, as well
  23. The glow fades from Raven's eyes a few minutes later. "I do not sense anything out of the ordinary. My magic is not perfect, but it seems this miscreant planned on accosting helpless people by himself." She sighs inwardly. I suppose I should show at least a modicum of sociability. Raven reaches up, moving her fingers over the runes stitched into her cloak's hood for a few seconds, muttering strange words again, before smirking slightly as she pulls her hood off her head. Hopefully that will make anyone watching think twice before trying to rip my hood off. The lowered hood reveals raven-black hair growing down to where her neck meets her shoulders with some tucked behind her ears, a set of sharp, piercing deep purple eyes, and an "all business" expression, as the smirk faded before her face was visible, fixed on Velocity. "You may call me Raven; it is nice to meet you, Velocity." She turns to the winged figure. "I must admit, I am relatively new to this city; it is common to meet angels here?"
  24. Ok, not a full Flaw is good because that could have made it cost nothing, and that would have been bad. I also realize I made a mistake in my initial post; what I want her to be able to do that isn't covered is write any language.
