  1. Captain Wonder flies an eighth of a mile over the new Freedom Hall, eying it with just a trace of suspicion. It looks...wrong. Perhaps it's just an old man's fancy, but Freedom Hall looks like a glass brick. Beaumont House, the 19th century mansion that housed the Liberty League and its successor organizations until the Terminus Invasion, now that was a headquarters. This looks like just another low-level office building, if a remarkably 'hi-tech' one. After a moment's pause, Wonder shakes his head. He's almost eighty years old; holds the Courage of Rameses, and is a veteran of two wars. There's no reason to be afraid to set foot in the headquarters of the greatest super-team on Earth. He's here to make friends, get to know some more people in the trade, and hopefully practice for a real super-fight. There's nothing to be afraid of. Pull the other one! A bit irritably, he makes a landing before the front doors of the Hall and cautiously pushes them open. This was much easier back in the old days, when you rang the bell for Jervis. Of course, Fletch Beaumont's elderly British butler is no doubt long-dead...
  2. While Captain Wonder has met Emissary before, I'm open for a thread if you don't mind that. I seem to have done a pretty good job of taking care of my existing threads, at least for the moment.
  3. (taking this out of the thread and moving it to PM)
  4. ...the character's base attack bonus is +6, he's a PL 11 character. The maximum damage he should be able to do is +14. What am I missing?
  5. Really? My attack bonus is only +7 for the attack, since a bolt of divine plasma doesn't count as Unarmed. (Well, it might for _Ra_, depending on the metaphysics of the moment, but it doesn't for Captain Wonder)
  6. Character Edits for Captain Wonder: Flight/Super-Strength array bought up to 7 (2 points) AP of that array: Strike 14 (Penetrating, Distracting) (1 point) By speaking his magic word, he can summon Ra's Light, a blast of divine fire that makes him a potent threat even at his relatively low PL.[1] It's distracting because he's spending his dodge bonus _not_ getting hit with the bolt of solar plasma that would transform him back into Fred Fawcett. [1]This is how he managed to help the Centurion shake off his brainwashing during the events of Live in Infamy. Updated by Barnum

    Distant Thunder

Having seen that hammer blast the cupola off a Sherman tank, Wonder knows the fact that the house is still standing is a good confirmation of his theory that this is indeed an imposter. But that doesn't change the fact that he needs to get Donar out of the building and away from the civilian(s?) as soon as possible. "Not today, Fauxnar!" The banter hasn't changed much from the old days. Wonder doesn't bother with fancy manuevers in these confined quarters; he lowers his shoulder and powers it into Donar's chest as hard as he can.

    Distant Thunder

Wonder tilts his head, studying Donar. He doesn't actually relax his posture, not when he's facing anyone who looks like that, but he does grow considerably more thoughtful. "No," he says evenly, standing between Reinhardt and Cadence. "Karl Reinhardt is dead. I saw him strapped into the electric chair on October 16, 1946 at Landswulf Prison." He meets Donar's eyes unflinchingly, fearless even of the angry god. "I don't know who you think you are, but that's a pretty cheap imitation. I bet you can't even summon a cloudburst with that thing."
  9. Rolling rolling rolling...a seven. This is inadequate. So instead, with a little help from a hero point...

    Distant Thunder

The sheer surprise of seeing a man he thought dead sixty years, alive and empowered, is enough to leave Captain Wonder actually at a loss for words for just a moment. "Reinhardt!" On his feet, Wonder balls his hands into fists, already calculating what he needs to go. Get him out of the house, get him out of this neighborhood... And sixty years earlier, that's exactly what he would have done. But though he still thinks like the Wonderful Wowser of the Golden Age, Fred Fawcett is a more seasoned man. "Or should I call you Donar? Have Aesir and Vanir again turned against their brothers and sisters of the sky?" He catches Cadence's gaze as he moves between them, trying to keep the civilian out of the line of fire. He knows just how hard Donar hits, and just how powerful is his hammer's lightning.
  11. In re: the latest series of events I just shouted "Oh SNAP!" aloud. I just thought you'd like to know.

    Distant Thunder

Wonder rises to his feet, gently sipping his tea. "How did the two of you meet?" he asks, wishing he knew how to read women of this generation better. "Did she seek you out?"
  13. Sounds good to me. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1535951/ Wow, what a lousy Sense Motive check!

    Distant Thunder

Wonder's feelings are decidedly mixed at this turn of events. The news that this woman evidently didn't know who was the Golden Age Valkyrie at least means she was innocent, and he reminds himself to celebrate that victory. Even if the alternative is so depressing. Wonder looks down at the notebook, an odd expression on his face. "These are very good. I like the Horus especially, it's very true-to-life. Your sister had some real talent." He closes the book, then looks up at her. "Have you met her? The new Valkyrie?"
  15. I wouldn't object to moving it a bit faster, but I'm not feeling impatient about it at all. I'm good. :)

"Because the job has to be done." He's not going to complain about how no one else does it the right way anymore, and that no one else is willing to remember the past the way it was. Not in front of a civilian, anyway. This kind of deception, for all that it's a good cause, makes him feel uneasy. "Where did she get the name? Valkyrie, I mean."

    Distant Thunder

"I debuted in February of 1940," says Wonder evenly. He's (almost) used to not being recognized now, though it was certainly nice to get some recognition from those nice gentlemen at the comics company. "Though I have been inactive until recently." He sips his tea and studies Cadence, his body language that of a gentleman in a lady's house. "Was your sister interested in superheroes?"

  19. OK, Captain Wonder: switches his dynamic array to Flight 5, Super-Strength 1 uses a slam attack against one of the demons hits (i assume!) for a Toughness Save of 27 easily passes the Toughness save from the slam attack then spends his Luck hero point to surge and fly 2500 feet towards Ditko Street. (All this for non-lethal damage, of course)

    Deaths Door

Wonder sets his teeth. "If we get seperated, meet me on Ditko Street!" he shouts to the others, before addressing the demons. "Chase me!" With that, he rockets straight up into the air in a blur of gold and white, rapidly rising very high above the city indeed, still clinging to his demonic captive. Just as his new friends are starting to think he's abandoned them, Wonder suddenly powers into the leading demon in a blur of nearly supersonic speed! With that done, Wonder begins flying downtown as fast as he can.

    Deaths Door

The Red Queen''s blast slams square into Captain Wonder, a great flare of arcane energy that is completely absorbed by his divinely muscular body. He does shout wordlessly, spinning in the air as he grapples with the demoness. When Faye redeems herself by catching the falling Quick Silver, Wonder worries about the bird in the hand. "Daughter of Shaitan!" He speaks a few words in a dead language before shouting to his allies. "Get the others! Bring them down without killing them if you can."

Wonder takes a seat, a perfect gentleman. "Yes, please. I prefer it straight." He looks around the house, trying to gauge the nature of both old and new occupant. As more a pleasantry than anything else, he says, "You have a lovely home. You and your sister must have minded it." When his tea comes in, he thanks her politely before he speaks again. "I'm sorry to bring up these painful memories. My sister passed away a few years ago," he admitted unguardedly, "and I know how difficult this can be. I wouldn't be here if I wasn't concerned."
