  1. That's true - they are quite a few circumstances to consider. What about telling an NPC to do something, but said NPC is not an ally or a minion, so you must use some sort of coercion like Intimidate?
  2. Is using an interaction skill (like Diplomacy or Bluff) a standard action or a movement action?

  5. Round 4 This is a surprise attack (because Nightrival's concealed) so Maelstrom's DC is 16. The attack roll is 28, subtracting 4 points from the Attack bonus and adding it to the Damage bonus thanks to the Power Attack feat. The Damage DC is 23. I'm assuming a wooden chair is light enough to throw at that distance. If not, I'll change it into an unbroken bottle or some other object. I just thought it'll look cool to chuck a chair. :)

  8. Nightrival Concealed within the shadows, Nightrival lifts an single eyebrow as Maelstrom soars twenty feet in the air. Huh. That's new. His eyes hunt for an object and immediately he finds an overturned wooden chair nearby. Over the years he's learned two valuable lessons: use the environment to your advantage and never hesitate to fight dirty. Honour is a myth; survival is all that matters. And right now, Nightrival is fighting to stay alive against a formidable foe. He could almost hear his Krav Maga and RAF instructors barking in his ears. Nightrival grabs the chair's legs and emerges from behind the flickering shadows and damaged card tables. He then tosses the chair at his airborne opponent with every ounce of muscle in his tired, bleeding arms! The chair flies towards Maelstrom and strikes the villian, smashing into splinters. "Here," he says, "have a seat."

  11. Natural 1's are a pain. Okay, Nightrival is attempting to grapple Shinken. My attack is good, and now my grapple check is 23. I'm using Improved Grab so the grapple is a free action and Improved Grapple so Nightrival can use one hand. Grappling Finesse lets me use his Dexterity bonus.

  14. Nightrival watches Shinken's feet. They dance and turn as he draws closer, the sword raised in his hand. The light fractures against his armour and sends glittering red and gold shards into his eyes. But, Nightrival waits. He examines Shinken's body language and its subtle gestures that might betray his true intentions. Despite his heavy armour, Shinken moves with a surprising grace. Nightrival will have to remember that. For now, his mind is completely focused on Shinken's feet, and now his hands. He sees his opponent's fingers tense around the hilt. Shinken gets within striking distance and slices the air. Nightrival slides his left foot back and draws an imaginary circle that arcs over the two fighters. When Shinken's sword completes its cut, missing him by a mere three inches, Nightrival's right hand reaches out with blinding speed and catches Shinken's left wrist. Nightrival squeezes and braces himself. -- Liam blushes. Although his countless teachers have all emphasized the importance of humility, the idea that Master Lee himself had actually praised him was surprising. The Old Man isn't exactly the fatherly type. In most cases, Liam would deny that he had such extensive training. That could connect him to Nightrival. Master Lee is no fool though, and he knows Liam's secret. If this Benjiro talked to the Old Man, lying could disgrace his former sifu. Besides, people have looked for him before. He fought in underground matches in Brazil, Thailand and Russia, so anyone with interest and connections could seek him out. But Master Lee? "Um, yeah," he replies, trying to conceal is cracked voice. "Lee is too kind. He just shows me a few things now and then. So why do you need a sparring partner? Got a big match coming up?"

  17. That would a cool addition. It looks like my character is getting trounced on the Broadwalk, so expect a completed adventure soon.

  20. That's very true. I suppose once the site grows, players will have to sift through the many different threads and pick out ones that are relevant to their characters. That seems like a lot of work. I missed the remark you made about that CoH site. I second this idea. Referees (or even players) could write the "articles" that would appear in the fictional newspapers published in Freedom City.

  23. This is just the crunch from Round 1. [OOC]http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1347408 to land safely on the ground, http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1347413 to increase jumping distance, which amounts to 10 feet in total. Nightrival uses the Improved Defense feat, increasing his Defense Bonus to +20 and reducing his Attack Bonus to +10.]
