  1. "Okay, cool. Thanks." Liam excuses himself and walks across the room to the staircase leading to the upper floor. He climbs the stairs and finds himself in a room much like the one below. A cloud of incense hovers in the air, filling the room with a sweet, pungent odor. Liam surveys the scene, looking for Sifu Lee.

  4. Ah, a new student. He reminds me of myself when I was his age. "Um, not exactly," replies Liam with a friendly smile. "I'm an old student of his. I was here a few weeks ago. Y'think it's alright if I go see him?"

  7. Good hit! Here's a summary of what went down: Nightrival is staggered and stunned, and is prone. He can't move for one round. The knockback, if I'm reading this right, and with the Acrobatics check, was fifty feet. I tried to use a Hero Point to negate the staggered condition but the roll failed. I'll try again next round.

  10. Nightrival doesn't see the grim determination in Shinken's eyes, concealed behind the green glowing eyepieces in his helmet. If he did, Nightrival would have been able to maneuver away from his opponent's vicious attack. Shinken's katana, moving at a blur, strikes Nightrival across his chest and shoulder. He doesn't roll with the attack, and the blade not only slices open his costume, the force of the blow sends him reeling backwards. He could have been driven to the other side of the Wreck Room, but he is able to draw himself in and half the distance by tucking into another backflip. Lying on the ground with a massive bruise spreading across his chest, Nightrival shuts his eyes and attempts to rally his strength. Shinken's strike was too powerful. He'll have to wait for another chance to regain himself. Nightrival laughs uproariously at the whole situation. "Nice one," he gurgles out between groans. -- Impressive, thinks Liam. Not many people with such a debilitating condition can carry on with their training. Benjiro's determination and inventiveness are the marks of a true warrior. Liam had yet to meet this man face-to-face, but he already has a tremendous respect for him. "You see, I live over on the Southside. Lately there's been some overdoses on this stuff called Zoom. It's this party drug, right? Anyway, a friend of mine is looking into it, trying to find the source. Maybe you can lend him a hand?"

  13. Nightrival watches Maelstrom sail up and away, coughing as the villian fills the room with a powerful gust of wind. The nagging tension that had knotted his stomach earlier begins to unravel itself. Man, what a relief. I don't know how much longer I could've lasted. He relaxes his stance and causally walks over to the two security guards. "Hey. You guys alright?" he asks them while he plucks shards of glass from out of his arms. He glances across the casino to survey the damage. Two smashed chairs, countless broken tables, shattered bottles, a ruined slot machine and a man-sized hole in the ceiling. Not a bad night, he thinks.

  22. Nightrival twists his torso as Shinken's blade harmlessly slips past him. He sees an opening; Shinken overreaches, leaving his chest and neck vunerable. Nightrival pivots on his backfoot and delivers a devastating roundhouse kick, only his foot swoops over Shinken's head. Cursing his poor timing, he backflips over Shinken by vaulting off his helmet with a single hand, then dropping to the ground seven feet away. He settles back into a Shaolin stance, anticipating the next attack. His breathing is calm and steady, and he has now completely forgotten about the onlookers. -- Liam's experiences as a student isn't a topic that normally enters most conversations. In fact, Shinken is quite possibly the first person he's told. He describes his capoeira lessons in a secluded camp in Brazil, and the ancient Shaolin master that must have broken every bone in his body, even before the master agreed to take him on as student. The ninjitsu dojo in the mountains, the football hooligans in London, the jailhouse rock fights in New York: the stories just told themselves. He is somehow relieved to finally tell someone all this, but his frankness unnerves him. Benjiro talking to Master Lee along with his curiousity arouses a slight suspicion within Liam, but he couldn't let paranoia govern his every action. There is something much more pressing happening at the moment. "Since I got you on the line, maybe you can help me with something."
