  2. Sounds good. Round One Nightrival is opening with Defensive Attack (Attack +10 and Defense +18) and using the Assessment feat to size up his opponents. That's two move actions, so the bad guys get a shot now.

  5. Nightrival tucks into a tumble followed by a forward handspring, placing him in the center of the attacker's fan and creating a barrier between the unconscious students and their assailants. He can feel intense waves of heat from the burning car warming his face. Although he resumes the drop stance, instead of lashing out with an opening attack Nightrival watches their feet, prepared to evade any oncoming strikes. "You guys aren't the most talkative, huh? The last dude was a regular Louis C.K. And that guy is funny." He turns to the nearest attacker and quickly looks him up and down, trying to gauge his skill by taking his stance and physique into account. If they can take out these guys, he thinks, then this is gonna be fun. Nightrival slowly pivots his fists. "Your move."

  11. Nightrival narrows his eyes. Six innocents hurt. And that burning car will cause more trouble later. He presses down on his inflating anger, keeping focused on the scene below him. Master Lee's most important lesson flashes through his mind: rage can defeat even the greatest fighter. For now, his greatest concern is to get those students away from the fire. The only way to do that is to get past their attackers. He springs off the edge of the roof, grabs a nearby streetlight, swings off its arched lamp, and lands facing the five men. He slips into a variation of the drop stance, sweeping the brittle leaves aside. Nightrival tenses his muscles and readies himself. Thick sheets of red leaves slowly descend onto the sidewalk, showering him with their brilliant colours. "Two minutes?" he growls. "I'd say this party just started."

  20. October - November 2007 Returning to Freedom City after many years of traveling abroad and learning multiple martial arts, Liam Callaghan decided to take on the Nightrival persona and became Southside's self-proclaimed protector. Liam found work at a shipping warehouse on the Waterfront. He patrolled the Southside for several weeks until one night he decided to patrol the Boardwalk, partly out of boredom and partly out of curiousity. This is when he met Maelstrom, who attempted to rob the Lucky Seven casino. Although he was able to hold his own against the wind-controlling villian, he was unable to subdue him completely. The casino was saved from being robbed, at the cost of the having the establishment soundly trashed during the fight. Maelstrom escaped, leaving Nightrival to deal with the police. However, Nightrival vanished before the police arrived. Maelstrom was the first super-villain Nightrival fought. He was later contacted at work by the superhero Shinken, who requested his presence at a sparring match held at the Wreck Room, a training facility located underneath Freedom Hall. Shinken wished to program his armour to accomodate various martial arts techniques. Liam agreed, in exchange for Shinken's help in stopping the influx of a particularly lethal strain of Zoom, a street drug that gives users super-speed for a limited time. During their conversation, Liam unconsciously dropped clues concerning his secret identity, and Shinken, using information supplied by Liam's first mentor Master Lee, reasoned that Liam and Nightrival may be the same person. Nightrival performed well at the match with Shinken, but his opponent's strength and skill completely overwhelmed him. He lost two rounds against Shinken, despite throwing, disarming and eventually striking Shinken a few times. Nightrival was no match for Shinken's armour and swordsmanship. Whether or not a third round will happen is undecided. After the sparring match, the two heroes met in the Southside. After patrolling for an hour, they came across a drug deal in an alleyway. They broke up the exchange and tailed the suspected drug dealer to a warehouse on the outskirts of the neighbourhood. Shinken quickly organized a raid, and Nightrival followed suit. The outcome is yet to be revealed . . . A little distraught over losing the sparring match and concerned that Master Lee may have betrayed Liam, he visited the sifu's kwoon in Hanover. Master Lee informed him, in Lee's own cryptic way, that Liam cannot fight alone. Liam slowly realized that he wanted to tell Shinken his secret identity, in an attempt to ask for help. His insecurity, reinforced by his half-success fighting Maelstrom, prevented him from asking Shinken directly. His fears finally came to the surface: how can he protect people against super-powered adversaries, with no powers of his own? Liam continued to probe within the kwoon, suspecting something might be wrong. However, a massive explosion erupted across the street. Liam disappeared into an alley and changed into his costume. He reached the kwoon's roof to investigate the sudden disturbance, gazing through the smoke wafting out into the street . . .

  23. Well, that's it for Nightrival. A good hit! I am in the market for new feats, but I'm considering All-out Attack and a rank in Equipment instead. Improved Critical is great, but I'm going to pick that up in the future to represent Nightrival's growing skill. This has been an excellent opportunity. I've learned some lessons: remember to stack feats, and be careful fighting opponents with high damage bonuses and Toughness saves. So far Nightrival can hold his own against minions but against PL 10 opponents with powers . . . not so much. Overall, a fun fight. I was plagued by low dice rolls which swung the odds to your favour, but whatever. This fight goes to you. So do we continue sparring or close up this thread and move onto the warehouse raid? Whichever is fine by me. EDIT: On second thought, I'll throw in Improved Critical when I pick up the Equipment feat.
