  1. Rose could tell something was off here. They were both acting just a little too tense, like they were expecting a fight or something, despite her co-operation so far. She really, really didn't want to get in that car. With how they were acting, at best she'd end up in prison for the robberies. They were both reaching for their weapons, too. She couldn't quite see what they had on them, but.. it probably wasn't good. And now they have my name and my face and where I work. I made a huge mistake. She decided there was only one thing for it, and set off running, at full speed. If they're not metas, then I can outpace them easily. If they are.... well, I'm going to prison if I stay behind anyway.
  2. Rose quickly remembered that she did not have any ID on her, since the only thing she had was her passport and she didn't make a habit of carrying that around. "You know there isn't a library round this part of town. Or much of anything." She quipped, mostly to buy a smidge more time. "I don't have any ID on me." She said, looking up at the officer as she did. Now she had to consider her options again. If they were gonna put her in cuffs, she needed to leave fast. She didn't want to end up behind bars for a crime she was investigating, rather than one she'd committed. Not like the other one is better, I'd just like to go down for something I actually did if I absolutely have to.
  3. And she has to shine her flashlight in the stupidest way. Rose calmly watched both of them approach, making sure that she had her eyes on them in case they made a lunge for her or something. There was no point in lying about who she was, since they'd identify her sooner or later, or what she was here for, since anything else would be very suspicious all things considered, but she could at least not mention the money she'd just picked up. "I'm Rose Callux. I work at Freedom's Fry, which got robbed earlier. I was following the robbers when you showed up behind me and spooked me. That's all. Am I free to go now?" She kept her hands up and didn't make any move. She wasn't sure what these officers were armed with.
  4. Oh no. She froze solid as the man shouted at her. She knew she could run, or fight, but she'd end up wanted, and that would definitely ruin her job and her safety. But if she just gave up and handed the money over, there's no way it would make it back to the stores it came from, and she might have the crimes pinned on her. I do look suspicious right now. She decided to quickly hide the money before stepping out from behind the tree with her hands up. "No need to shout, officer, I'm right here." She responded, hoping that these particular officers weren't corrupt, and they didn't notice her hiding the money.
  5. The police just had to get involved, didn't they? Rose's mind ran over her options at breakneck speed, over following them, running, turning herself in, fighting them off... she quickly settled on finding whatever one of them dropped into the brush over there, and then going off to hide somewhere. And then praying to whatever deities are listening that the thing they left is the one perfect piece of evidence that I need to continue this little investigation. I know full well the cops won't do anything about this. Rose got up and ran at full speed, trying to grab the thing under the brush quickly, before finding a place to hide from the police.
  6. Rose kept watching the group, considering her options as they split up. She could run up and take out one of the groups, but she wasn't in costume, so anyone walking up would see her starting a fight, and the people doing this looked to be unwilling and therefore innocent to some degree. She could mind read the newest recruits, to see what was happening to them, but that meant following the second group, and letting the money from her shop go. She decided to continue tailing the original group, still curious as to exactly why they were doing what they were doing. Hopefully they'll lead me straight to whoever's in charge.
  7. Rose made a mental note to do something to apologise to Jamie when she got back, either buying him something or covering his next shift. She'd think of the details later, but right now she had a more pressing issue at hand. It wasn't hard to tail them at the distance she was at, but it was hard to see what they were doing from the distance. She could probably take a guess, judging by their actions last time round, but she had to be sure. She decided to move up closer, trying to stay hidden behind a wall or something, so she could see what they were doing properly. She considered reading another one's mind, but none of them looked to be in a different state to the dude she'd already tried. She was content to watch, for now. I wonder where their last stop is.
  8. Although she'd braced, she was still hurt by his handshake, biting her lip and letting out a little whimper at the force of it. When he let go, she cleared her throat before speaking, to stop her voice coming out all wobbly. "I'm.. fine." She shook her hand as she spoke, trying to get feeling back in it. He is strong. Yikes. "Remind me not to make you mad. I'm sure you could snap me like a toothpick if you wanted to." She smiled to show that she was talking in good humour and wasn't actually mad at him crushing her hand.

  11. She watched them leave, staring almost as blankly as they were, watching people from the queue join them. They can't just get away with this, dammit! Inwardly raging, she decided to take action, being the only one around who could. "I'm going on break. Cover for me for a few minutes, wouldya?" Before Jamie could protest, she'd headed into the staff room, quickly ditching her apron and heading out of a back exit, then down an alley onto the street, making sure to avoid the window so that Jamie couldn't see she'd just left. Ditching the shop on such a busy night would get her in a lot of trouble, but she the cops weren't gonna care about a small fast food joint robbery, and she could always claim she was too shook up by it or something. Besides, I'll be back before the end of my shift. She decided to tail them for a little while, to see where they were headed. There was more to this than met the eye, she just had to find out what was going on.
  12. I'm glad I picked the idiot to get information out of, Rose thought as she listened to the confession from the guy who was telling her nothing. "That's a whole lot of nothin' you've just told me, Theo. Thanks." Before he could respond, she tossed him away, and started making her way to the docks, running down there down alleys and side streets so that she didn't hit anyone on her way. She jumped up to a rooftop to get a better view of whatever was happening down below, whilst she went over the info she was given. Thirty guys, secret tunnels and Garcia involved? This is something major. I best put a stop to it before they get away with some serious loot.
  13. Oh wow. That was.. strange. More than strange, wrong. Very, very wrong. He couldn't be acting alone, and judging by the look on the faces of the other two, neither of them could be the mastermind. She thought about how she could take 'em, how she'd go about disarming them, taking down the flanker first, vaulting over the counter and throwing them all out before they could hurt anyone, but Jamie's voice cut her thinking out. She was in a room full of terrified people, she was at her workplace, and these people weren't doing this willingly. She had no choice but to give away the money. She opened the register, grabbed a handful of cash, not looking to see how much she'd taken, and dumped it in his hand. "There's your money." She said, making sure to keep an eye on all three of them to prevent any sneak attacks.
  14. Alright, a Mind Reading check (d20+8 from the level) gives me: 21. Not bad for the first roll of the thread.
  15. This was.. something. She watched the group enter, and stood at the counter, staring, as they approached. Jamie backed away into a corner, then one of them held their hand out and asked for money. If this were any other group of punks, she'd probably have started swinging by now, but the room was full of people who she didn't exactly want to show off her powers too, she didn't want to wreck the place and lose her job, and something was.. wrong with them. Their movements weren't natural. Maybe she'd just imagined it, but.. maybe it was more than just a hunch. "This doesn't have to end in violence. You can always turn around and walk away. " She said, mostly to stall for time as she attempted to read the mind of the one holding his hand out.
  16. One of the busiest nights of the year, and Rose managed to get the shift. How lucky I am, she thought, as she took one order, followed quickly by putting together and giving a second order out. She wondered what else she'd be doing on New Years Eve. She usually spent it out in costume, trying to avoid having to welcome in the new year alone by stopping crime instead. After this shift, I'll be a little tired for that. Hopefully crime goes to sleep when I do. She was snapped out of her introspection by Jamie giving her someone's order. "On it," she replied, despite only half hearing what he'd said. If I get it wrong, he'll say something rather than hand it out, she assured herself, and started making what she thought she'd heard. This job was tiring, boring, and not particularly rewarding, but at least she had it.
  17. The conversation had pushed Rose to the wayside a little, and she was having a hard time keeping up with the comings and goings, trying to remember names and recognise faces. Shrike was having a worse time, having disappeared completely, and Rose briefly contemplated finding her mentally, but decided against it. Interrupting her privacy when she needs it wouldn't exactly help, she thought to herself. She instead looked at the newest arrival, the gargoyle. Or just Gargoyle, as it happened. "It's nice to meet you, Gargoyle! I'm Psy Strike." She extended her hand to be shaken. She mostly wanted to see exactly how strong he was with a body like that. I wonder if he's an actual gargoyle or just a dude who can turn into one. "This party's bringing together loads of interesting people! Is it like this every year? I should've shown up years ago!" She said to the big group that had assembled around her.
  18. Rose couldn't help but giggle at Bonfire playing around with his smoke, and then listened to the conversation as it continued, and felt a little more out of place than when she started. Everyone else had stories, or a reputation, or something to their name. She had a faded costume from a heroine that nobody knew. Still, she wasn't about to be a downer on a good party. "Yikes. Guess it was a good 'fang' you showed up when you did." She had to resist giving a smug grin as she made her awful pun, just before two newcomers showed up. "Welcome to the party. This little corner seems to be quite popular all of a sudden. Is it because of how well dressed I am?"
  19. Rose smiled sympathetically at Gretchen. "That's alright. I'm not exactly in my element here either." She responded. But I'm not quite as nervous as you are, she noted to herself internally, and then noticed the extravagantly dressed.. smoke (?) approaching the three of them. Judging by the introduction he gave, he was expecting to make an impression, and given Rose's surprised look, he'd succeeded with at least one of the girls. "Name's Psy Strike. I like your look. I've no idea how you're not leaking out of it, however." She smiled once more, trying to remove the surprise at his entrance from her face.
  20. As Gretchen approached her, Rose noticed how she seemed to both fit in and be out of place at the same time. Her dress made her look like she was born to be here, but her facial expression and body language suggested that she'd rather be anywhere else right now. "This is kinda my first time at something like this. Not sure if it shows." She replied, then gestured down at her costume, smiling broadly at her own joke. It was then that Dancia approached, almost scaring Rose due to her rather sudden interruption. She looked out into the crowd as she spoke, and smirked at the idea of her being as famous (or as powerful) as they were. I might stick to Southside, just for now. "I didn't know journalism went hand in hand with poetry." She remarked. "Name's Psy Strike, but you can call me Rose." There was a hint of pride in her voice as she said her superhero name, clearly not ashamed of herself, even if she did feel a touch out of place at this kind of party.
  21. Decked out in her full costume, Rose approached the side door to Freedom Hall. It wasn't that she wanted to avoid the press, more that she had nothing to offer them, as a little known hero from the poorer side of the city. As she stepped in, she realised she looked more than a little out of place. She looked around at the flowing dresses, the sharp suits and the shining hues of gold and blue in those wearing their costumes, and felt like her fading purple outfit wasn't quite up to the standards that this sort of crowd expected. She'd deliberated on whether or not to come to this party for a while. On the one hand, it was formal, and probably intended for higher-level heroes. She didn't want to spend the night dealing with people looking down on her (or worse, pitying her), nor did she want to leave Southside undefended (even if only for one night). On the other hand, she did feel lonely around this time of year, what with not having anyone around to celebrate with, and it would be a good opportunity to meet new people. She decided to go, and go in costume once she realised how much the sort of dress that shows up at this party costs. Standing inside the party, she decided the best thing she could do was go get a glass of water and look around some more, for someone a little more on her level, socially speaking.
