  1. OK, this may affect my next action's timing: 1d20+8=18 So I only totalled an 18, and that's probably going to hurt. The results and penalties will determine what she attempts to do. I am willing to use a HP for the reroll if the penalties will be crippling or fatal.
  2. Apex nodded, listening as she worked. She rebuilt the wiring harnesses, completely realigned the antiquated steam and water piping to increase efficiency, and then began adjusting the mysterious drives themselves. "I see. No, plenty of wanna-be conquerors have paraded into my world, and received a grand thrashing for it. There's been some close calls, but never a flat-out war with Olympus. In fact, human climbers have reached the pinnacles of Olympus without encountering as much as a demigod. But the names and the purveys of you and your uncles are well-known, implying that there has been contact in the past." She landed and crawled under the sealed drives, asking for various tools as she worked. "This is cause for concern, though - our inadvertent arrival has alerted your uncles to the presence of our world. OK, now I need the screwdriver - the red handled one to your left. That could be a problem for both sides, since it might lead to another pointless war. Do hand me that wrench there, with the blue handle. Thank you." After taking the tool from Hermes, she reached up into one of the few accessible places on the engine, "Now, I just need to reverse the polarity of the neutron flow.... and done." Standing up, quite covered in grease, she returned to the communicator. "I've repaired the engine and optimized its mounting system. Never thought I'd see someone use a pan-dimensional phase array modulator as a glorified steam boiler though. At least, that's what it looks like based on my analysis. Now we just have to figure out how the crew managed the dimensional jump here in the first place, and we *should* be able to reverse the process. Meanwhile the ship should have full mobility and power available from the bridge. All indicators here are green."
  3. Ok, here's that delayed Craft roll: 1d20+11=25 Let me know - I tied the DC.
  4. Apex transmitted back, rather bemusedly, "Considering Hermes is here in the engine room helping me... run down parts, I suspected as much. I'll get to work on the engines now. Barring calamity, we should safely have full power in a few moments.." She showed Hermes her diagrams and pointed out where certain parts needed to go, and in what order. If anything was still missing from her list, she'd ask him to search the ship for it. While they work, she'll ask casual questions, hoping to draw information out of the messenger god while not giving away too much. "So, you mentioned a war. We seemed to have missed it. Can you sum things up for us? I suspect that will also explain a great deal about the issues we seem to be facing." After she had repaired all of the missing and damaged areas, and properly configured the engines, she tried to figure out just how they went through the dimensions to begin with, and how to safely move back. She didn't want to cause any more trauma to anyone.
  5. "There is more at work here." Oracle narrowed the sphere of emotional control - it seemed she possesses exceptional focus when it comes to matters like this. The two heroes with her would be affected, though it's unlikely positive emotions will hinder them. Hope, weaponized. Is it irony or sarcasm? In any case, she must affect all three of the struggling individuals. It was like a protective shield for Caradoc and Cannonade. "I fear the presence is possessive of this person. They may be controlled. let us not injure them unduly. Something *feels* odd..." She will move closer, keeping the pressure on, and making sure she protects the others. "But be careful," she deadpans with a self-depreciating tone. "I *have* been wrong before."
  6. Apex raised an eyebrow, her inflection flat and unamused, "Hermes? Interesting." She sighed, "My name is Alexis Lorne. I'd explain what I'm doing here, but it's technical - so I won't bother. Besides, I doubt you could sit still through the required lectures. It would be a disservice to us both to inflict that on you." She hovered up to an open area, conveniently close to one of the areas needing repairs and studied it, while keeping a wary eye on the speedster. "So, the middle of the ocean, at ground level - might I inquire as to what brings the messenger... 'god' all the way to our little boat? Olympus getting a little boring? Also, giant boat, bright colors, somewhat noisy - does it look as though we are even attempting to hide? And are you any good with a wrench? Calculus? Quantum mechanics? Because I have a lot to do in order to get this ship moving again, and you're being quite distracting just zipping about." Continuing her checklist, she checks another part, waiting for the list of stuff she called in to arrive. "So, if you've some business, we should conclude it quickly. One would think that you would be fairly busy, considering that you are purported to have an actual job while all those other relatives of yours sit around and make proclamations or whatever. I wouldn't want to keep you from your duties, after all, and i would hope you would extend to me the same courtesy."
  7. Ok, next up is the opposed roll with her Emotion Control, trying to counter its misery with Calmness. She wants to keep whatever the being is from continuing in pain. Well, mental pain, anyways. 1d20+10=23 And there is that. Not the best roll. basically, if she can dampen its effects, that'll be enough.
  8. Oracle focused on her emotion-inhibiting powers. Usually she instilled emotions in others, so maybe she could affect the other psychic too. She teleported with a blatant flash to the opposite side of the vehicle from Cannonade. If stealth was a word, Oracle didn't seem to understand its application. She prepares for both mental and physical combat possibilities, as her protective empathy should be able to shield them from emotional attacks, placing her in a support role. If the person attacked more directly, she had solutions available for that as well. A shimmering force field of amber light surrounded the girl, and dust and small bits of debris rose around her in a wind that affected her hair and dress - but nothing else in the parking lot. This is also placed her at the alleyway exit, while Cannonade was in a good position to prevent a return to the radio station Perhaps her light show was deliberate, as she would rather the psychic try dealing with her than spot Cannonade and the likely approach of Caradoc as a threat.
  9. Ok, here is is, Oracle's initiative! 1d20+11=18 There we go, I go on 18.
  10. Once informed of the issues, and granted access to the ship's interior, Lexi marveled at the Victorian-era steam punk designs hooked to the sealed engines. The engines, of course, fascinated her - it had been ages since she ran into a sealed design like this. Nevertheless, she managed to determine that some key parts needed replacing in order to safely use the engines. She started by having ship's staff gather parts for her as she prepared to make the needed repairs to the engines. Interestingly, she even had them get parts that might not make sense now, but would be commonplace aboard a seagoing ship, as some of the repair parts will actually need fabricating first, and they will provide raw materiel. But just as she finished using the intercom to relay her list to the crew, one of her drones reported an anomaly. It had been cut off from the interior light source for just a brief fraction of a second, and she realized that someone or something else may have cast a shadow on the drone, a shadow that was no longer there. She tapped out a set of commands quietly on her wrist mounted control - for show, certainly, but it had also become a bit of a habit. Drones closed in around her in a layered formation. The Inside layer extended their force fields onto and over Lexi, while the outer ring configured themselves as a secondary shield system, projecting their force fields outward in a staggered but imperfect hexagonal pattern. The third group moved around between their outer shield drones and the inner force field drones, their weapons systems reporting as online and ready to fire through those gaps in the secondary shields. If there was a fight here, she'd want to draw any attackers away from the engines, so she activated her hover drones last, and began falling back towards the doorway. "Quit wasting my time and show yourself - I know you are there," she challenged calmly, wanting to secure the engineering area before making any further adjustments to the ship's systems.
  11. Ok, One technology check! 1d20+10=27 Hope that's helpful.
  12. Oops, I guess that makes sense. Who is where? Apex would have gone to the bridge to first offer help. I did try figuring out where folks were by rereading the thread. Sorry for errors, will correct as soon as I know what I posted wrong.
  13. Lexi woke to a strange sound, or more appropriately, a lack thereof. She had intended to take a short nap, and the ship's purser had agreed to send someone to wake her, Now it was well past dinner and her finely cultured stomach had sounded its own alrm. She got up and tapped her tablet, turning it on and selecting the financial news feed, expecting to hear the built-in voice reciting stock market trends as she cleaned up and selected clothing. Instead, she recieved an error mesage indicating that while she was connected to the shjip's wi-fi, there was no signal past that. "And here I paid for a first classs stateroom to *avoid* queuing." she grumbled, and finished getting dressed. She then picked up the ship's phone, calling the kitchen to see if something could be brought up to her room. She still has no idea of what has happened, unless someone in the kitchen tells her. Just to be on the safe side, she activates her drone swarm and keeps it close. She can tell from her cabin window that they aren't moving, and the sea is unusually calm. Off to her right, she sees several humanoid figures streaking away. Superheros? Or villians? She can't really tell who they are at this time. But she can tell right away that even at her top speed she won't be able to catch up to them. With a sigh, she changes clothes yet again, this time into her Apex jumpsuit and collects the drones into deployment formation However, when the porter delivers her food, he is seriously agitated. It is only a matter of moments before she learns of the disasters in engineering and the banquet she had been planning to attend. With her suspicions roused, she tears through the sandwich plate and salad so hunger won't distract her, and flies out her balcony window on a pair of hover drones. She heads for the bridge, wondering who might still be there. If she recognized any heroes (Monsoon and Edge are there, I think) or ship's officers, she'd address them directly, succinctly and to the point. About as seriously as any teenager girl hovering with a swarm of dronesa round her. It helps that Apex is the Face of LorneTek, and someone might recognize her as the company CEO OR as an engineer OR as Apex, its sponsored superhero. If not all three. "I heard there's a problem with the ship's technology. I may be able to assist you."
  14. Ok, bringhing her in aboard the ship.
  15. Yep, I'm a dummy. I keep wanting to roll the attack but no, you had the math right and I did not. This is the Mental Blast attack. Will save of 25 required by goon. And I had the goon's penalties wrong too. so I apologize for that. Ok, BBCode lines from now on, will do.
  16. Oracle calmly walked forward, as Sekmeht floored the goon in spite of his heavy armor. "These are merely servants, Sekmet. I predict their master is the one we will really need to prepare for. Whomever it is deserves an *especially* enthusiastic welcome." She casually continued into the jewelry store, giving the remaining two guards a measured glance. The one barking orders was facing Sekmet and would be a fool to waste his attacks on hostages. He *might* fire at Oracle, but as the less immediate threat, she didn't sense that as likely. The one that had called her a mind freak was still on his hands and knees, the depression pinning him in place better than steel bars could. Two disoriented mmn remained that might pose a threat, although she was certain she could withstand their attack if needed, and was counting on the disrupted emotions to keep two of the men out of the fight. Once between the soldiers and the hostages, she evaluates the scene again. She locked eyes with one of the still-shaken guards, and again the searing golden beam of her gaze went right through his helmet. He now experienced the same overwhelming overload of neural activity that had left his companion drooling on the ground. "Flee now," she says over her shoulder to the handful of patrons still present. "Before you are caught up further in a battle not fated to you."
  17. Dice roll! Mental Attack! Roll! For a 29 (Will Save defense, and this goon is -1 because of a partial save against the Empathy attack earlier)
  18. "We are closer than it likes - I sense a mind..." She blinks and focuses, looking towards the far entrance of the lobby and an exit to the far side of the building, "We're right behind them. I will teleport ahead and relay directions. Cannonade, follow me and we'll try to delay them. Caradoc, disable the machinery and follow. This is an acceptable plan?" She hopes so, because she can feel the hostile will moving away... and she has just belted orders at two far more experienced superheros. She'll face palm later, when there's time.
  19. Rolling again for the mental protection, and http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4860442/ I get a 19. Crosses fingers...
  20. Oracle took a deep breath, the by now familiar saffron aura spiraling out away from her as she began radiating Calm once more. "This place is different. So much grief, so much sadness; nowhere near the rage that was present at the first scene. Go on ahead. I will join you once I have purged the building of this emotional pollution. We do not need to move with the same haste as last time, for these people are too miserable to commit the acts that fear drove people to in the last place." She walked lightly over the shattered doors with a polite "Thank you" to Caradoc, who opened them for her so chivalrously. (If he were telepathic, he would have heard her mentally giggling at the whole image.) Once she walked to where she estimates the center of the building is, the sphere of positive emotions moving with her as she calmly walks to the estimated center of the building, and Pushed hard with her will to force the despair and ennui to dissipate.
  21. Apex is approved, is it too late to write in my gageteer character and her swarm of drones? It's possible that she was napping in her cabin when the shift occurred and was only brought up to speed when she woke up. Although even she might have a challenge with the engines as described.
  22. And after another amazing delay, I have the relevant roll! http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4858506 For a 29.
  23. Zephyr blinked, "Yup, looks like I'll hive a lot on my plate." She wondered if she could evade the oncoming swarm. Oddly, it looked as if they were moving in cartoonishly slow motion as she thought of her options. The path ahead and behind her gave two routes, so she elected to continue forward on the path, and see if the guided pace of the trip down the path kept her ahead of the swarm. She also reached out to see if these manifestations had any sort of mental presence she might be able to affect. She had an ominous feeling that it won't be that easy - and what if she used one of her other powers? That would take focus away from the telepathy she's using right now, and maybe break the connection. "Now, where have I 'hornet' this joke? Now I'm just 'winging' it...""
  24. She didn't even blink when the familiar music began to play After all, there probably *was* a relationship with the the toe-tapping. At least it wasn't 'Ride of the Valkyries" or the industrial bits of "Powerhouse" playing. She just needed to think it through and see where it led. Zephyr smiled right back, nodding. "Oh, I *know*. Ain't I a stinker?" Still, she needed to both learn more and move along. "Since Eileen's 'around' I guess I won't worry. Say, would *you* happen to know how she got her powers? I've been trying to help her find out." She waited patiently for whatever answer the little birdie might have. She'd already figured out that she couldn't rush the trip, for whatever reason.
  25. Oracle placed her phone in her pocket and stretched, "I can move at the speed of thought, naturally. Experts at Clairemont tell me it's really teleportation, no matter what I call it. As long as I know where I am going, or have a reasonable route to follow." Her eyes narrowed a bit, as she remembered the foul wave of toxic emotions that had lead her here. "I mean, it's really easy if there's a strong mental or emotional issue at the other end, but that's just for accuracy purposes." She checked the address with Omar, and then got contact information from him so they could touch base with him once the other studio was safe. "Omar, I have two requests. first, keep that segment off the air while we are gone, and second, start brainstorming what other stations are very similar to this one and WTSR, to narrow down future possible targets. We need to be able to get ahead of whomever this is. Can you do that for us, and call me if you get anything?" Oracle is ready to go.
