  1. Coiled Lightning is not particularly spooky, but he would be willing to help out, with either mundane or hero skills.
  2. Player Name: ca_lazerdwarf Character Name: Dragonid Power Level: 10/11 (157/164PP) Trade-Offs: -2 Attack / +2 Damage Unspent Power Points: 7 Progress To Bronze Status: 14/30  In Brief: An alien warrior from a race of fire-breathing dragonlike creatures.  Alternate Identity: Slivar Drash Identity: Public Birthplace: Dragos Occupation: Former Praetorian of the Delaztri Empire Affiliations: Praetorians Family:Disowned Catchphrase: Fires of the Fathers!  Description: Age: 32 Gender: Male Ethnicity: Red Dragonid (Warrior caste) Height: 6' 2" Weight: 280 pounds Eyes: Black Hair: None   A large reptilian looking humanoid with scaly red hide and green horns, wears a gold-colored harness and belt and often wears a jetpack designed to resemble small wings.  Power Descriptions: The Dragonids are naturally stronger and more resilient than humans and their scaly skin provides them with extra protection. They are a warrior race, taking pride in both their hand to hand combat skills and their fire breath.  Dragonid can breath fire as well as any of his race, either in a short blossom of fire cast out at a single target or a thin burning past multiple opponents. Unique to Slivar Drash is the ability to mentally control fire once he creates it. He can bend it to his will so well that it forms solid objects that burn without heat. He can also will fires (natural or otherwise) to extinguish.  Dragonid also carries a jetpack styled to resemble dragon wings. These provide fast transport in the atmosphere, and can even take him to space and around the solar system. In space, the jetpack can extend a life support field around him to allow him to breath and survive in the vacuum.  History: Silvar Drash was born to the warrior caste of a primitive pre-spaceflight warrior race, but his lack of wings condemned him to the worker class. Even his mutant pyrokinetic abilities did not prevent the warriors from shunning him. He labored for many years in the mines before he got fed up with his mistreatment and decided to reclaim the honor that he felt was his birthright. He found other workers who were unhappy with their plight and convinced them to rise up against their masters in revolution. Though Silvar himself had great talent as a warrior, most of his allies did not and the revolution was brutally crushed. Silvar was captured and sentenced execution. While he waited his fate, representatives of the Delzatri empire visited the planet. The planet's leaders were awed by the technologically advanced visitors and decided to impress them by inviting them to mass executions. Silvar used this opportunity to fight his way to escape his executioners, and the Delzatri found him, offered him freedom and a way off the planet. Silvar gratefully accepted.  After leaving the planet, Silvar quickly proved his worth as a warrior and was trained to join the Praetorians. He took the name Dragonid after the Delzatri word for his people. When the Praetorians finally fell, the Dragonid was captured by the Collector and kept in stasis for thousands of years until awaking recently.  Personality & Motivation: Dragonid is the product of a warrior culture, and he values and respects martial prowess. He feels he has now earned his status as a warrior and must use that status to defend those who are weaker than him. Defending the weak makes him feel strong, and reminds him of the unfair treatment he grew up with.  He enjoys the challenge of a good fight and often overestimates his own abilities.  Powers & Tactics: Dragonid prefers to hang back in battle, breathing fire at his enemies from afar, while he lets his allies engage the enemy up close. He can use his hard fire constructs to create choke points, or to provide additional cover to allies under fire. He's not afraid to get in brawling range when necessary, though, and often prefers to fight weaker opponents this way.  Complications: Not just a scary face: Dragonid is a fearsome looking creature and often creates fear and revulsion where he would like to invoke trust.   Abilities: 6 + 4 + 8 + 0 + 2 + 4 = 24PP Strength: 16 (+3) Dexterity: 14 (+2) Constitution: 18 (+4) Intelligence: 10 (+0) Wisdom: 12 (+1) Charisma: 14 (+2)   Combat: 16 + 12 = 28PP Initiative: +2 Attack: +8 Melee, +8 Ranged Grapple: +11 Defense: +10 (+6 Base, +4 Dodge Focus), +3 Flat-Footed Knockback: -5   Saving Throws: 7 + 8 + 6 = 21PP Toughness: +10/+8 (+4 Con, +4 Protection, +2 Defensive Roll) Fortitude: +11(+4 Con, +7) Reflex: +10 (+2 Dex, +8) Will: +7 (+1 Wis, +6)   Skills: 28R = 7PP Intimidate 12 (+14) Language 2 : Dragonic (Native), Galstandard, Delaztri Notice 8 (+9) Sense Motive 2 (+3) Survival 4 (+5)  Feats: 7PP Defensive Roll 1 Dodge Focus 4 Equipment 1 (5 ep to Praetorians vehicles/HQ) Precise Shot 1  Powers: 25 + 28 + 16 + 4 = 70pp  Fire Breath ( 24pp Array Feats Alternate Power 1 ) [25pp] Base Power Damage 12 (Fire Breath; Extras: Range (ranged)) {24/24} Alternate Power Damage 10 (Sizzling Line; Extras: Area (line, 5x500 ft), Feats: Progression: Increase Area  2(areax5)) {22/24}  Pyrokinesis ( 26pp Array Feats Alternate Power 2 ) [25pp] Base Power Create Object 7 (Hard Fire; Extras: Moveable, Feats: Selective, Tether) {23/23} Alternate Power Damage 5 (Flame Objects; Extras: Area(General, Shapeable), Duration (Sustained +2), Feats: Progressive 2 (Increase to 25 5' cubes) {22/23} Alternate Power Nullify 10 ( Extinguish, Any power of type Fire Extras: Duration(Concentration)) {20/23} Device 4 ( Rocket Pack, Technology; 20pp Container; Flaws: Hard to Lose ) [16pp] Flight 6 (500mph) [12pp] Immunity 6 (Atmosphere Bubble; Environmental Conditions (All), Suffocation(vacuum) ) [6pp] Super-Movement 1 (Space Travel 1) [2pp]   Protection 4 (Scaly Hide)  DC Block    ATTACK      RANGE     SAVE             EFFECT Unarmed     Touch     DC18 Toughness (Staged)   Damage (Physical) Fire Breath   Ranged    DC27 Toughness (Staged)   Damage (Fire) Sizzling Line  Area(line)  DC25 Toughness (Staged)   Damage (Fire) Extinguish    Ranged    DC20 Will          Nullify (Fire) Flame Objects         DC20 Toughness (Staged)   Damage (Fire) Totals: Abilities (24) + Combat (28) + Saving Throws (21) + Skills (7) + Feats (7) + Powers (70) - Drawbacks (0) = 157/164 Power Points

  4. Saved some points with Dodge Focus, and dropping the increased range for now to beef up his saves a little, though not sure where the benchmark for those is. Still need to flash out his background.
  5. Charlie nodded with a sigh "Didn't think we'd get much from them. That guy with the energy pistol, Slice, looked like just a hired gun, too. I guess whoever's behind this is smart enough than to let any of his hirelings know much about him. Especially in a town like this." He brightened at the mention of videos and photos "I'll have a look at the videos, sure. We need to find some lead to track these guys down. Something written on the van maybe, or even a license plate." He leaned forward to see what Erickson had to show him.
  6. Charlie groaned slightly and shook his head. His ribs ached again just at the thought of what he went through to recover that bag in the first place. "How did they even know what room it was in?" was the first thought out of his mouth, betraying a bit more annoyance than he intended. He composed himself and added, "I don't know what else I can tell you, I'm afraid. I didn't get a good view of the van, I was trying to take cover from flying time capsules. I don't suppose the people you captured told you anything useful, did they? Are they still around to question?"

  8. Charlie nodded "Sure, whatever I can do to help. It's why I came down here." he said with a smile. "I already said everything I can remember, though. It all happened pretty fast." He followed quickly behind the Detective to the back of the station, looking around the office as they went, smiling broadly for anyone else they passed. He was ready to ask more questions, but sensed Erickson wanted to read the statement first so he held his questions for the end.
  9. "Of course, I'll wait for the detective, thanks." Charlie nods and takes a seat to wait. He wondered about the officer's reaction. Was something wrong? Or was he just surprised that I was prying in to the case. He didn't have long to wait and stew though, and quickly got up to shake Detective Erickson's hand. "Yes, nice to meet you, Detective. I just left my statement at the desk, and I mentioned that I was curious about what came out of the time capsule. I know there's probably not much new that's ready for public release, but the media was making a big deal about the whole Garrote connection. Given what happened, I can't help but think they were right."
  10. Charlie strolls up to the counter with a big smile, and tips his hat. "Yes, Officer, that was me. I'm Coiled Lightning. I really appreciate you guy's understanding that I couldn't come down here right away, but I wanted to give my statement. First time, I've done this really." He smiles. "I'm afraid I don't think I saw much that's useful. Didn't recognize any of those guys, and nothing they said hinted who they were looking for." Charlie struggles to remember anything particular in their dialog, but finally shrugs. "Anything found in the time capsule that can be made public yet?"
  11. After night fell, and Jane had gone to sleep, Charlie slipped out of bed and back in to his costume. Still had to make his promised statement at the precinct, hopefully someone on night shift would be willing to take it. Swinging his way up among the buildings, high above the mostly empty streets, Charlie headed across town. In only took a few minutes to reach midtown, and then a few more getting his bearings and finding the right street for the precinct. The city blocks looked different from above and it was difficult to see the street signs but soon he found the right building. He took a few moments to scan around the neighborhood for any sign of activity. He hoped no one had made another attempt to steal the evidence. Swinging back down to the ground, he deactivated the whip and hung it securely from his belt. "Ok, don't look threatening," he thought to himself walking across the street to the police office in the middle of the night.
  12. Jane seems good, doesn't like the superheros but otherwise want her to be a generally supportive girlfriend. I don't know if I really have enough to go on for searching for information, didn't hear any names and didn't get a good look at the gun..
  13. "I didn't see him break anything," Charlie offered in the hero's defense, but decided to drop the subject. "I think I see the car right up there. Talk to you in a second." He hung up and tried to jog as fast as he could, but soon felt pain from his recent beating and exertions coming on. He returned to a brisk walk to continue the walk to the car. He got back to the car and gave Jane a hug. "I think maybe we should just grab some fast food and call it a night, I want to catch the news and see what they say about this whole thing." Back at home, Charlie maked sure to record the night's news broadcasts while he did some searching online for news on himself, as well as anything he can find about villain with the gun, and the big thug. He also checked the various News outlets to see who Scott Lewis worked for.
  14. Sorry about disappearing for a while, there. Some personal issues going on and couldn't get myself in the right mindset. Should be back on track now, though.
  15. With a deep breath, Charlie picked up his phone and answered, "Hi, honey. Did you make it out of the crowd safely? You'll never guess what happened to me." He carefully laid out his cover story about helping a fallen woman and getting half trampled in the process. "And then, when I was able to pick myself up and figure out what was going on, one of those heroes swung in with an amazing electric whip. I have to admit I was just so fascinated seeing it so up close and personal, it totally slipped my mind to call and let you know I was ok. You see stories about this sort of thing all the time in this city, I've never been that close before. This guy, Coiled Lightning, I think he said his name was, just wouldn't stop even getting pummelled by this bruiser three times his size. I can't believe I didn't think to take pictures..." Charlie knew he was in trouble for not calling her earlier, but he hoped he could play it all off as just his fanboy side coming out. "I know you're not a big fan of supers, but did you see any of it? It was amazing."
  16. He struggled at the question. Of course he wanted to come down to the station to give his statement. He needed some way to stay in contact and find out how he could get more information about the cloak, but how long could Charlie go missing before he seemed suspicious. "I'm afraid I have important things to take care of that can't wait any longer," he says, "What station are you going to? I'll stop by later to leave a statement." With his follow-up plans in hand, Charlie snagged a traffic light and flung himself off to soar among the buildings, before quietly returning a few moments later to grab his street clothes, change and go looking for Jane. "I saw this woman knocked down by the crowd and went to help her... Must have been hit in the head by someone's knee... Got turned around... Saw that guy in blue swinging his whip..." He practiced cover stories under his breath as he hurried back toward the car.
  17. I wanted at least one power tied to him being an alien rather than technology. Was flipping between the acid and fire breath (for more of a dragon flavor). Just occurred to me, I could get the dragon flavor by giving him wings, which saves me from finding another way for him to fly. I saw plasma as more "generic comic energy blast" type of thing. Does it matter whether energy blasts come from a gun or from eyes?
  18. I'm thinking the soldier that is tired of war. Maybe too 90s a concept.
  19. From a planet of reptilian aliens, Space-Cyborg (name pending) has been heavily upgraded with cybernetic upgrades to make a super-soldier. Modified to survive in the cold vacuum of space, given greatly enhanced vision and with twin plasma cannons built in to his arms. Thinking of giving him some acid spittle from his racial heritage, and possibly a cyberlink for working with computers. Primarily for space activity, as he'll stick out on Earth.
  20. Charlie smiled at the police officer, and turned his whip up to maximum power as he gave it a few cracks. "You can call me 'Coiled Lightning', my whip is at your service, and all of Freedom City if it needs me." After another whip crack, he started rubbing his shoulder. "Well, maybe I got hit a bit harder than I thought," he said quietly. "And I probably wouldn't still be standing if I didn't have you guys' help. Those criminals were tougher than I expected. Can I get your names so Mr. Lewis here can write about the brave members of the FCPD as well?"
  21. Coiled Lightning >Night Of the Garrote
  22. Somewhat sheepishly, Coiled Lightning put the cloak back in the bag and handed it over to the police. "I'm sorry, my enthusiasm got the better of me, really wanted to know what those guys were so interested in. You're right, leave it to the boys in the lab to study. Might want to keep some extra security on the lab until they do." Turning back to Mr. Lewis, "I'm sure we'll find out more about the cloak and any connection to the Garrote in due time, the FCPD do good work. I'm glad I was here to help them out and stop the criminals from making off with this evidence."
  23. Charlie smiled, "Well what do you know. The Garrote did leave his cloak here after all." He carefully pulled the cloak from the bag to look it over. "I wonder if there's anything on it that could identify him. DNA samples, maybe. The police can do wonders with those on TV." He looked for any tags or stains or anything that might be clues about its origins, but ultimately had to admit that he wasn't a forensics specialist and probably wouldn't know it if it was there. "Hope someone can find something, though", he said getting back to his feet. "Make this beating worthwhile." Picking up the cloak and the bag, Charlie stepped over the side of the building and used his whip to rappel down the side. He held up the cloak and the bag and looked for the reporter. "Looks like this is what the crooks were after," he said with a broad smile on his face. "Surely a clue for the old Garrote case."
  24. Just slumping down to stay out of sight and have a look in the bag. Search check: 1d20+1=7
  25. Charlie slumped down on the roof, breathing heavily and wiped the sweat off his brow. This was a lot harder than he expected, but it looked like the bad guys were going to leave empty handed. It's a good thing, he didn't think he had it in him to run back into the fight. The bag should go to the police so they can return the content to its owners, but first it wouldn't hurt to have a look himself to see if the bag had any obvious clues about this fight. What was it the guy with the gun wanted so badly from here? Who was he, anyway? Carefully Charlie opened the bag and looked inside.
