GM Phalanx's compliment on the vessel she commanded and Supercape's cheerful enthusiasm did a lot to reassure Captain Mirta that the humans weren't likely to start flipping out and punching holes in the ship, an all too common stereotype that unbeknownst to her was started when Daedalus put an armored fist through the wall upon learning that a Grue fleet was inbound to the same sector as a battle he was directing between the Lor and the Star Kahn. At any rate, human tempers were assumed to be highly volatile, and strict instructions had been given not to anger them. Smiling peasantly, she said "Thank you, and I thank you all for agreeing to assist us in this endeavor. As the Freedom League may have informed you I am Captain Verlee Mirta, commander of this vessel which shall carry you to the scientific fleet in orbit of Neptanus-" she stopped abruptly, murmured to herself and resumed quickly "-Neptune, excuse me. I have been advised to proceed with a reduction in speed, for the sake of those unused to the distortions caused by Lor space travel technology. As a result, we shall arrive in orbit by the end of Earth's current revolution instead of the seconds it would normally take. Your quarters are assigned to the fore of the ship, and a crewmember has been tasked with informing you of the various technological amenities it comes with which you may use at your discretion, though I ask that you not use them in a way contrary to their intended purpose. I've already had someone lose their hair to the matter replicator, and I'd prefer it didn't happen again. Before you retire or explore the ship, I request that you follow me to the Mission Hall to discuss what is being asked of you all. Are there any questions?" the teal-haired captain asked politely, though smoothly enough to let slip that she often made short speeches like that. The rest of the technicolor crew in the docking bay were at present standing at attention in imitation of their commander, though a soft sound like the rush of traffic in a city through yards of brick made plain that the ship was in motion. Through the windows, the heroes could see that the ship was banking away from the distant Sun, heading now towards the outer edges of the solar system, leaving the vast chunk of rock it had previously orbited far behind in the endless void of night.
  2. GM "Got it Mr. Xavier, hope you won't need to frighten anyone off, last thing we need is the island against us even a little" replied Martin, clearly glad to have the chance to think things over without worrying about keeping watch. "First though, I'm assuming we should gather firewood and such to make this place more than a frozen hellhole? The coast can go from blazing to biting when the sun sets in my experience" Martin glanced at the sky, noting the waning day "Also, we'll need some kind of ..a lot of things, really. A place to store food we find around here until we can move out, the necessary disguises to blend in with the populace, a whole lot of information on current events so we can hold a conversation on things without attracting attention due to horrific ignorance, etcetera, etcetera" he sighed gloomily, his glasses reflecting the sunlight dancing on the rolling waves of the cape "and that's not even scratching the surface of what we'll need to get out of here unharmed, a map of the island and-ugh" he sat down wearily on a nearby stone "So much to do, and so little with which to do it" he looked at Jay "Anything you'd like me to help with in setting ourselves up here, sir?" he asked, clearly filled with the desire to be of use somehow, The beach was at least plentifully supplied with raw materials in wood and stone, the nearby forest smelled strongly of apples, olives and Jay had seen many wild animals, mainly boars and the odd wandering wolf. At the very least, they wouldn't be starved for choice in what to do...

"Thanks Victoria, never been teleported before. Look forward to it!" he said eagerly. A little surprised she even knew what he was talking about, he loved a chance to discuss one of his favorite shows with someone besides his family(which always turned into heated arguments about nonsense) "I really only watch older shows like from the 70's to the 90's, 'cause most of my family grew up watching these things called telenovelas, and they're pretty sure a series is only as good as the characters in it, and they think newer actors are garbage" he shrugged apologetically "Not what I think, just letting you know. I've seen a couple episodes of Mythbusters, and it seems pretty fun. Prefer the parts where they set things up, like testing all those theories about how JFK could have been shot, over the ones where massive explosions happen. As for other shows..mostly the old Atom Family Adventures, the Star Treks(most of them anyway), Battlestar Galactica original and remake, those Dr. Tomorrow serials from the 50's, a whole slew of those terrible cartoons from the 70's, and a lot I probably have forgotten by now. My family is pretty big into science fiction, to the exclusion of most else" he shrugged again "I'm pretty sure I'll need glasses in not too long if it keeps up"

Sorry to have forgotten to mention this but: the League is using their(Daedalus's)teleporters to send the heroes to the ship, meaning the ones chosen gathered at the Freedom Hall to transport. I'm very sorry for forgetting to mention that earlier. Edits shall be made to rectify that.

The slightly frowning young man nodded several times to demonstrate he was listening, commenting about Victoria's description of her powers "So whatever, uh, 'powers' you can do a lot, just not at once? That sounds pretty handy to be honest, though I obviously have no idea what it's like" "I don't know much about the Romans" Subito confessed, "but that sounds pretty cool. If you wanna to borrow it for modelling or whatever, feel free to ask. 'Don't go out very often for patrols, coach says it's best if I learn a bit of finesse before I go out to try and help people" he settled into silence for a moment, clearly considering something. After a moment he asked bluntly "You ever watch that Star Trek show that was on the space station?"
  7. GM October 5th, 2011, the inner edge of the Asteroid Belt, the main docking bay of Lor vessel Resplendent Discoverer. The ship orbiting the lonely chunk of rock floating in the inky void was a mass of brightly-colored curves, exciting swoops, and hardly a sharp corner to be found, the Lor designers excusing this as a way of allowing it to maneuver in a planetary atmosphere. Of course, it most likely would never get beyond the limbo of a planet's atmosphere, but it was good to be prepared nonetheless. Onboard, the Captain Verlee Mirta tapped her foot quietly in the blazingly-bright room, watching a monitor of the energy readings the teleporters gave off like a hawk for the arrivals sent up from the Freedom Hall's teleportation system(good thing they have Daedalus, or contact with Earth would be tediously difficult she thought to herself). Three of them were, according to the message sent her by the Freedom League, of the unpredictable and dangerously powerful types so frighteningly common on Earth. Two of them had the power to break things with their bare hands at a level far beyond what even their muscle power should allow them to do, three of them could self-propel themselves through the air, one had some sort of connection to the Preservers, another to the power of the Terminus, and the fourth had power over quantum mechanics the humans barely seemed to have discovered. The one she felt would do a great deal to put her at ease was the third, a mechanical genius whose powers were derived from the magnificent technology she wielded. Cpt. Mirta desperately hoped she could convince that one to act as primary liaison on the mission. The League had agreed(after a while) to permit the Lor to teleport them up to the ship that would take them to the small fleet in orbit of Neptune, upon which rendezvous they would proceed to Sedna. It had taken a while to explain the significance of the names the humans gave the planets, and she still wasn't sure she could rattle them off as fast as would be needed. Nonetheless, as the signals on the transporters began to intensify, she came sharply to attention, wondering how they had been approached, and what it had been like to be chosen for the mission...
  8. OOC for this thread I'm assuming that all four of the selected heroes came by teleport. durf and 'cape, if you decide you'd rather your character used their Space Travel power, just say so and I'll edit.
  9. I'm up for it, I'll volunteer El Heraldo for this if you'll have him.
  10. Alright, so who we have is: angrydurf with Phalanx, Paragon with Quintessence, Raveled with Ironclad(if it's alright, I'd prefer if she went instead of it being 3/4s a Paragon Party), last but not least Supercape with Supercape. I'd say that's a grand party! I won't be on for most of the day, but when I get back I'll get the thread up and running so you guys can teach a Lor admiral the True Meaning of Friendship! The thread will be called 'Seal of Sedna'.
  11. Hi! Paragon has graciously allowed me to GM a thread for him, and I decided to take it in a different direction: Outer Space! Basic outline: the Lor blockade keeping most of the worst the galaxy has to offer out of the Sol System has a bit of a morale problem, with the Fleet Captain of one of the squadrons central to the cohesion of the blockade complaining openly of the supposed futility of their mission, citing the various instances of aliens slipping past their nets and wreaking havoc on Earth. As well, he outright despises humans due to hearing reports of activity that directly conflicts with his own vision of what a 'properly developing culture' should be. Fleet Command has decided to demonstrate to him that humans are entirely worth guarding, and has sent out a request to the Freedom League to send a few spaceworthy individuals to assist on a mission to Sedna, in order to investigate a potential site containing Preserver artifacts. The perils that infect the planet have so far proven beyond the immediate reach of Lor Science, and Fleet Command has decided that their time would be better spent elsewhere, and have planned one last attempt at retrieving the artifacts. The humans(or..not) will be asked to represent humanity to show that the species can work well with others under pressures other than imminent destruction, can use new technologies without long periods of familiarization, and allow the Lor to take the artifacts to their research centers for examination. Now, I don't see this taking very long, as there are precious few PCs who have any connection to/experience in space. A little exposition, some tense meetings with the embittered admiral, then the main action of getting to the Preserver trove on Sedna, with who knows what dangers awaiting.
  12. GM Martin seemed deeply struck by this, and stood in silent thought as Jay raced ahead to check out the cave, clearly never having even considered the idea before that sometimes there wasn't a 'good' option in a situation. When Jay returned and told him about the condition the cave was in, he nodded and muttered "Might as well check. Don't think we could do better than this place right now, a lot of this island is bound to be uninhabited further inland, and the coast ports won't have places you can stay for free I'll bet" he made his way over and began a methodical search for anything truly terrible. Nothing horrible was found, and the straw that covered the floor of the cave was dry and smelled quite clean seeing how it was in the middle of nowhere, so it didn't take long for the two to get superficially adjusted to their new headquarters. The thundering steam engine could still be heard in the relative still and quiet of the pre-industrial beach, something that clearly put Martin on edge.

Stepping back slightly from his previous stance at the bar and beginning a barbell curl, Subito answered promptly "My powers are pretty limited actually/ No energy beams or anything, but aside from hearing really well, being tougher and stronger than most people can be, I can fly and survive underwater pretty much indefinitely, I can't be crushed by high pressure environments, suffer in cold, drown or be poisoned. Also I got this awesome Bande- banner. With it, I'm pretty much bulletproof, and I can fill people's hearts with hope" he shrugged "My..instructor in power tells me I'll never get any stronger or enduring than I am now, but I will begin to get new powers if I use the ones I have right now well" he looked back to her "How about you?"

"Hm? Oh I just like to exercise a bit before the day properly starts, my sister would prefer if I got up earlier and with heavier weights, make sure I get a real workout, but so far this has been pretty good. Pleased to meet you Victoria!" he said brightly, following that up with "Are you super-strong too? I gotta say, there seem to be a lot of other students here who use the higher-power equipment. Have you seen that Rick Huna guy, the one with volcano powers? Just crazy strong" he declared admiringly.
  15. Well, no way I'm arguing with a roll like that! The cave is obviously used intermittently to keep herd animals like sheep and goats sheltered, but doesn't look like it's been used for months. No pirates, djinn, or Carthaginians to be found, however, or anyone else. It's large, aired well, and has several smallish crannies whose ability to stymie the wind make them auitable for sleeping in. Won't exactly be comfortable, but there's way worse around.

The other student's well wishes caught Subito entirely by surprise. His powerful hearing allowed him to hear people coming from dozens of yards off, and he had gotten into the habit of anticipating people's arrival. The noises beside him hadn't even registered due to how little advance warning he was given. Starting, he almost dropped the weight, but collected himself in time. Turning slightly to the new girl, his cheerful shout of "Good Morning!" was interrupted by the sight of her white hair and red eyes. He had seen many downright alien students so far, but the ones that looked almost normal but with a details that threw off expectations. As a result, it came out much more cautiously "Hi! Uh, morning! I'm Subito Sondo" after a slightly tense silence he added awkwardly "You're really good at being quiet by the way, didn't even hear you come in. And I can usually hear stuff from way off"
  17. For this thread. Wisp and El Heraldo meet in the Aaron Cage Gym.
  18. October 20th, 2011, 7.00 A.M. Subito floated into the Aaron Cage Gymnasium, his bulging gym bag over his shoulder, 'athletic' shoes trussed to his feet, the shorts-and-tight-undershirt uniform of his old school already on, and a sweatband neatly in place over his maddeningly-curly hair. After wrestling with the locker combination locks for the requisite amount of time, he installed his non-exercise gear in the standard cavity, dropped to the ground and stormed('walk' would imply grace) into the weight training room. His old school hadn't had anything nearly heavy enough to tax his newly-boosted strength, and his sister Galanta's ideas were dangerously close to illegal, involving 'train cars' and 'freight' and 'decorative boulders' more frequently than was perhaps wise. The situation at Claremont, on the other hand, was to his eyes ideal, with both weights to challenge those without enhanced muscle power and those with. Taking up one bar that seemed to be on a sort of roller, and possessing a digital sign that had a marker of 'Pounds', he figured he might as well start low, and set the convenient dial to 400. Setting himself in the rhythm of lifting and lowering, he reflected that having these things instead of the regular dumbbells allowed for greater control of the weight attached. He hoped he could have a chance to see how it worked in person. Humming tunelessly, he went to the logical follow-up question: why hadn't the Vorta showed the same powers Eris did? It would have made a perfect juxtaposition between their powers of the mind and the Jem'Hadar's power of the body. Pursing his lips at such a waste of a potential plotline, his humming went on unabated.
  19. GM The beach began to take a gentle curve to the left of the cave they were approaching, and soon soft(and tall) grass cushioned their feet. Martin settled a little when Jay demonstrated that the idea didn't make him uncomfortable. In truth, he would have suggested that relationship himself, but considered it a betrayal of Jay's human mind to treat him like a performing animal even in show. Besides which, such a show would be significantly more popular and better attended than if they had landed closer to the present by a century or two, or in the cold of northern Europe. Nodding assent, Martin asked immediately "How much should we charge? I don't know much about this time period, but I vaguely recall money being extremely valuable. Maybe just trade for goods we can trade in one of those chain of deals things. We'll need copper though, and that's bound to be expensive, especially in the amount we'll need" he frowned at the general direction of the Mediterranean Sun, and began to peel off the wetsuit, draping it over his shoulder "If you think it's a good idea, I won't argue with that. Better than if I try to pass you off as my pet or something" using the wetsuit as an impromptu carrying bag, he put the various gear and gadgets inside the thing and zipped it up, hauling it by one of the strong loops on the shoulder "Anyway, what tricks could we do that won't do you any harm to perform regularly? I don't know much about handling performing animals, but I do know that a lot of the tricks they're taught can be painful when done repeatedly" By now, the two had gotten to the stones at the base of the mountain from some past rockfall. The cave was only a few yards away, and looked quite deserted.

  21. GM The cart was following the road in its southerly direction, almost directly away from the mountain set in which Jay had spotted the cave, so there was no fear of Kaurus or the giant overhearing them Martin listened with great earnestness to Jay's exhortation to focus on the task of returning to their home in space and time, clearly in another mood altogether than his earlier blithe enthusiasm. At Jay's question, his answer was immediate "Terrible. We don't have any local currency with which to buy supplies we'll need, working for it would take ages and might make us miss some window of time or whatever that caused us to this far back, we stick out like sore thumbs in our appearance, meaning we can't blend in with the rest of the local population, and I doubt that Kaurus guy will think to keep from mentioning the talking cheetah-" he broke off for a moment from that train of thought to go on another one "-and by the way sir, your speech is improving wonderfullly, I don't doubt that guy just assumed you were some kind of divine messeng-" his face had begun to smile again, but the realization sent a fresh wave of gloom over it "Anyway, I don't think Kaurus will keep quiet about us, meaning we'll probably have to hide if word gets out. But until then, we need an explanation that doesn't mention our names or where we're from. Yeah" as he finished the sentence he looked puzzled at the way he'd ended it. After a moment of deliberation, he tentatively said "Perhaps..we should assume..alternate identities?" By now they were much closer to the mountain than they had previously assumed they would be, and could see not only the large cave. In the base, but also a number of other caves dotting the visible sides.
  22. GM Shaking himself out of his outraged funk, Martin bade Kaurus a good day and set off after Jay. Walking quickly over the fine sanded beach, he nearly jumped out of his skin when a sudden shout from the nearby road was vocalized. "KAURUS, WE DEPART!" said the shout, at which the subject started in surprise and dashed for where a large cart stood, pulled by an almost bigger horse and carrying as its chief cargo(there were some bars of iron as well) a man who was roughly half the weight carried, a mountain with long black hair and beard, gleaming green eyes and a weathered brown tunic. Waving to the temporally-displaced citizens, Kaurus and the other man set off down the wandering road. When they were gone from sight, Martin asked grimly "Well sir, what should we do? I have a plan involving a public bath and the mirrors of Syracusae, but I'm betting you have something more immediate and practical in mind" he looked at Jay expectantly, keeping his footing with little difficulty on the soft sand. The monstrosity slowly chugged along just outside the cape, approaching the mountain the north end only about twice as quickly as Jay was walking.
  23. GM "The great Archimedes of Syracusae, under whom I study" was the slightly belated response, Kaurus being apparently entranced with the vessel as it thundered and jolted past "He built it only a year or so ago, finding that the water in a water reservoir's heat-retainer he'd built for a public bath became so hot(the slave responsible for the heating escaped pnushment, I'm afraid), that it split asunder. Master Archimedes decided to test how to put such great pressures to practical use, and after numerous attempts, hit on the idea of using the pressure to turn wheels. There must be ten wagons powered by boiling water in Syracusae now, with another being built every ten weeks at least! That ship, the Eye of Macedon, is the first ship so powered. Master Archimedes hopes to place the device on a Carthaginian ship next, 'cause they're more seaworthy than our Greek craft" he lapsed into silence to gape some more. Martin by now was silent too, his mouth working furiously and his face burning with anger.
