  1. Slick Slick cursed as the masked man swung over too the group. What was this? He stood up, a little too fluidly for a decrepit vagrant. The bandana wearing man looked like he could handle himself, but it was still three against one, and the thugs were probably packing. Well, maybe it was time to shake things up a little bit. And this guy may just serve that purpose, without Slick having to break cover. Slick shuffled forward, getting within earshot. He clocked the new guys smell. A bit sweaty, tinged with adrenaline but not too much. Smell of some smoke chemicals. Guy was a pro.
  2. Intimidate check for Drifter please!
  3. No problem, no rush here! That's +3 initially - although if things change, the plan may need to be abandoned!
  4. OOC thread for This thread For Dragonfly, Slick, Drifter, and maybe Nick. And anybody who may want to jump in!
  5. Slick Slick didn't like being a vagrant. Firstly, in order to complete the disguise, he had to be a little odorous... and his sense of smell was to acute for that to be pleasant. Secondly, quite frankly, Slicked liked luxury and Slick liked looking good. The dishevelled unshaven and unkempt vagrant he had grown into, "mumbling bob" was none of these things. Still, it suited for the investigation. Slick had been asking around Southside and hanging around unnoticed. And things didn't look good. Slick would hardly call himself a socialist, but when Southside started sliding further, well, south, he felt he need to poke his nose in. New drugs had hit the allready deprived area, and the kids where high. Sitting on the sidewalk, mumbling to himself, Slick observed the three thugs, dressed in jeans and vests, talking to some young (15 year old) adolescent boy. The kid was unkempt and looked bad, sweaty and thin. Slick could smell the new drug on the kids perspiration.
  6. Thanks for reassurance troll, points well made and well taken. Drifter sounds perfect for this thread. I'll see if any more interest then roll with it.
  7. I would quite like to do a thread with Slick, a "low level" thread. Really about some drug pushers at the local school/college and getting to beat them up, intimidate them away, and lecture "the yooth". Before it gets too Iron Age, I am thinking more of "Nick O' Teen" than anything to gritty, although it may get a bit gritty of course. I'm thinking for a change enemies more being the thug and thug bosses kind of chaps. So PL 7/8 characters maybe. Any thoughs / interest in this?

Try to fight when things are on your terms, don't loose self control and get goaded into a fight when the time isn't right.
  9. Quentin became aware of a huge surge of power behind him, just to the left. Remarkable. It wasn't the normal ebb and flow of energy that criss crossed the power lines and circuitry of the arcade (very pretty, he acknowledged), but something several magnitudes higher in power, different in quality, and impossible in shape. The Kid spoke Japanese. Quentin didn't. But he could see the kid looked cool and confident despite his age. Hmph. Kids. Although he did look pretty cool, he conceded. He stiffened slightly and mustered up his composure. Well. All very well. But does he have a cape. I think not!. He had to start thinking more like Supercape, less like Quentin Quill.
  10. Professor Quill walked along the amusement arcade determined to enjoy himself. He licked an ice cream absent mindedly, and tucked the cuddly toy he had won from hoopla under his other arm. It was a day for people watching. "Lets see what these colonials do for fun" he mused. And so he strolled along, watching the young couples in love, the screaming kids with stressed parents pretending to enjoy themselves, the inevitable vagrants trying to bum a dollar, the police officer enjoying his donut a bit too much, and various other displays of the infinite complexity of human nature. Coming to the arcade section was not particularly pleasant. Loud noises and scruffy teenagers. He sighed. When he was a lad, it was all homework and study. "Kids today" he mumbled. Mind you, some of these games looked quite fun! And, he had to concede, that asian girl over at an arcade looked was doing extremely well. A sterling performance, he noted, admiring her razor sharp reflexes. "Pretty little thing", he mumbled too, with a cheeky smile. Of course, he acknowledged, too young for him. Oh to be 20 years younger. Engrossed as he was, he didn't notice as his melted raspberry ice cream fell off the top of his tilted cone.

  12. Professor Quill brushed down his immaculate tweed jacket and adjusted a particularly splendid green bow tie that he mistakenly thought displayed a fashionable sense of colour. "Time for a night off from heroics" he mumbled to himself, outside the theatre. And in he strode. Being a relative newcomer to the city, he was alone, and didn't recognise anyone there. He went to the bar, and ordered a rather pleasant vintage of Pinot Noir. Expensive, but worth it. He found himself striking up conversation with a rather tedious middle aged lady, an ex-actress who held on to her looks like they where a life raft. Unfortunately, the life raft had long since sunk. Her husband was a more amiable fellow, also a wine buff, and a theatre critic on top. "This should be a splendid evening" he murmured to himself. And adjusted his bow tie once more.
  13. If this is still open, then Supercape would like to be involved. Going to a play is just the thing for a bumbling academic secret I.D! Incidently, Silhoute seems to be an expert in physics and behavioural sciences, like the Prof... any connection at the university?

Someone who scrutinises what they do. Charm. I possess the first two, and a bit of the third! What qualities do you hate most in other people? Do you have any of those qualities? Certainty, cruelty, impulsivity. No, I don't possess any of these! Do you have a secret identity? If so, who knows it? Do you hide it from people who are close to you? Why? Professor Quentin Quill, lecturer at Freedom University. Yes, it's quite a secret. I wouldn't want my quiet cosy life as an academic ruined by exposing me as Supercape! Do you work well on teams and in groups? Are you a leader or a follower? I work well in both. I'm not a leader or follower. I'm democratic! Are you on a super team? If so, how do you get along with your comrades? Do you trust them, or do you have secrets from them? No. Are you a member of any church, fraternal organization, club, committee, political party, or other group? How much time do you spend on that? I am a member of secular and socialist debating societies, and spend a modest amount of time in both. Personality & Beliefs Who are your heroes? Charles Darwin, Jeremy Bentham, various other scientists and philosophers. Always looked up to the founding fathers too. Did you ever become disillusioned with former heroes or idols? If so, why and what were the circumstances? No Do you like being a hero? If so, what is the most rewarding part? If not, what makes you keep doing it? Hmm. I neither particularly like it or dislike it. It's a duty but not an unpleasant one. Is there anything that would make you give up hero work, or even switch sides? Not from my perspective. What are your short term goals (what would you like to be doing within a year)? Do some good, get some experience. What are your long term goals (what would you like to be doing twenty years from now)? Retired, and have furthered science! What is your greatest fear? Why? What do you do when something triggers this fear? Probably having my cost life destroyed by my secret ID being exposed. Is there anything you would give you life for? Humanity. How do you feel about money and material wealth? Do you desire it or disdain it? Are you miserly with what you have, or do you like to share? Is it a mark of success, or a means to an end? I desire having enough. I desire that quite strongly. I like a cosy life with creature comforts. However, I'm not greedy beyond that. I don't view it as a mark of success. How do you generally treat others? Very politely. Kindly. On occasion, patronisingly. Are you a trusting person? Has your trust ever been abused? Yes I'm very trusting, and of course, it has been abused by students and scientists. Are you introverted (shy and withdrawn) or extroverted (outgoing)? Do you have a lot of self-confidence? It depends on the situation. In individual or small group situation, I'm confident. I feel a bit akward being idolised or the centre of attention. How do you act around attractive, available members of your preferred sex? I try to be a bit more charming! What are your most annoying habits? Playing with my bow tie. Do you feel contempt for any general category of people? Who are they, and why? People who claim the moral high ground. They really shouldn't. What is your favorite food? No. What is your favorite color? Are there any colors you dislike? Blue. What sort of music do you like? Is there any that you hate? I like modern classical. I don't hate any music, aside from simplistic bad music, of any genre. Oh, and I despise autotuned voices. If you have a favorite scent, what is it? Freshly cut grass. Do you have a favorite animal? Not really. Not an animal lover. What is your most treasured possession? Why? My mother's piano. I can barely play it but its in my home and reminds me of her. Do you enjoy "roughing it", or do you prefer your creature comforts? Absolutely the latter. Is there a job or a task you would absolutely refuse to do? Of course, any I thought were morally wrong. Do you consider yourself a spiritual person? If so, how do your beliefs affect your life? How important is it to you? No, I am a strong secularist and athiest. Was your faith influenced or molded by anyone special? No! Could you kill? Have you killed? I haven't, I could, but I wouldn't like it at all. Are there circumstances under which you believe it is permissible to kill? What are they? Yes, to protect human life. That's probably about it. How would you react to watching someone kill another person? Would your reaction be different if the killer was a friend or an enemy of yours? With shock and horror. I would probably get extremely angry, and even violent if an enemy did it. How would you react if something important was stolen from you? I'd get pretty angry and strive to get it back. How would you react to public humiliation? Probably terribly badly. But it depends on the circumstance - ridicule would be worse. How would you react if a good friend or relative were purposely or accidentally killed? Has it happened to you? Again very angrily. It happened to an old flame 3 years ago. I would certainly seek justice, possibly vengeance... but I hope not murderous retribution. What do you consider to be the worst crime someone could commit and why? Murder, especially if sadistic. If your life were to end in 24 hours, what five things would you do in those remaining hours? Smoke a fine cigar, drink a fine port, eat a splendid meal, and do so in the company of a lovely lady. Career & Training Do you have any special training in your hero skills? If so, where and how did you get it? Absolutely none! Who taught you the most about your heroing abilities? No. Must get round to that at some point. If your features were to be destroyed beyond recognition, is there any other way of identifying your body? No. What would you like to be remembered for after your death? A good man. Do you believe you pose a threat to the public? Why or why not? Possibly. My powers can be quite "explosive" and cause collateral damage. I have to be careful. What do you perceive as your greatest strength? My mind. My ethics. What do you perceive as your greatest weakness? My inexperience. As a player, if you could, what advice would you give your character? Speak as if he/she were sitting right here in front of you. Use proper tone so they might heed your advice... Trust yourself and your commitment. Bear in mind you are inexperienced but able. Don't rush into things, look for some way to gain the advantage if you can. Remember that all hero's where new at one point, and you are no different. Be confident but realistic and learn when you can.

[floatr][/floatr] Power Level: 8 (122/128PP) Trade-Offs: +1 attack/-1 damage Unspent pp: 6 Progress to Silver: 23/60 (Bronze status earned with Supercape) In Brief: A horrible mutant treated with chemicals during WWII, now a shapeshifting hero of incredible physical prowess. Alternate Identities: Felix F Fassbinder Identity: Secret Birthplace: Berlin, Germany Occupation: Company owner of Fassbiner Pharmaceuticals Affiliations: None Family: None Age: 70 Apparent Age: varies. As Fassbinder, 50 Gender: varies. As Fassbinder, male Ethnicity: varies. As Fassbinder, caucasian. Height: varies. As Fassbinder, 5'9" Weight: varies As Fassbinder, 80 Kgs Eyes: varies. As Fassbinder, blue Hair: varies. As Fassbinder, grey Description: Slick changes form as others change clothes. Slick usually walks around as the reclusive Felix Fassbinder, a middle aged man with a rugged charm and average physique. When out as a hero, Slick usually adopts the form of a slightly androgenous, very attractive male or female with blond hair and bright sky blue eyes, who has a remarkable athletic physique. Often, and if needed, his/her skin will excrete a slick black oil. History: Slick is the product of Nazi experimentation in WWII. (S)he was born a malformed hermaphrodite. The experimentation didn't stop there. As an infant, (s)he was exposed to a variety of chemicals and treatments. It was only when (s)he was accidentally treated with experimental rocket fuel that something very strange happened - she bonded with the fuel and became the shape changing creature now known as slick. As WWII grew to a close, Slick was rescued by American soldiers, and taken back to America, to be dealt with by one Doctor Fassbinder, a scientist and Jewish German Resistance fighter. Morello came to view Slick as his own son/daughter, and brought him/her up. Slick grew up with Fassbinder, and soon took on the "permanent" identity of Felix Fassbinder, his son. Of course, Slick would frequently go out exploring the world in another shape. However, together they formed a strong bond, and a company, Fassbinder pharmaceuticals, that soon became extremely large, thanks to Doctor Fassbinders scientific expertise and Slick's business acumen. Slick always resisted becoming a hero, more concerned with looking after the Business as Doctor Fassbiner. However, on his deathbed, the Doctor told Slick that the time had come to let go of looking after him and find his own destiny. He always believed Slick had a higher purpose, one that God would reveal. Slick was not exactly a devout believer (although ostensibly he followed the Jewish faith), but the man's words touched him/her. Felix Fassbinder became more reclusive, and only occasionally dealt with the company. True, he held extravagant and wild parties, but his public life diminished. At the same time, the superhero(ine) Slick started patrolling the streets, a mean, lean fighting machine looking for a purpose. Personality & Motivation: Slick is a charming persuasive character, confident and persuasive, even seductive. Slick is still grieving for Doctor Fassbinder, a man who was more than a father to him/her. (S)he deeply wishes to justify his faith in him/her. Whilst Slick does not exactly know what purpose (s)he has, or what cause to follow, (s)he does want to make Doctor Fassbinder proud. Underpinning this, Slick is somewhat angry. Angry at her past, the Nazi's, and his/her own odd physical status. (S)he has also a slightly bemused attitude to gender stereotypes or sexual orientation. Given her own physical status, having been both (and being still) both male and female, (s)he will laugh at any prejudices in these regards. Powers & Tactics: Slick will generally try to attack with the element of surprise, taking on a low threat or familiar face and then striking. Slick is a fairly skilled fighter and has remarkable strength, which (s)he will use to fight in close range if at all possible. If it's not, Slick may well be in trouble, resorting to throwing objects or grabbing any ranged weapon. If possible, (s)he may try to fight in darkness to give him/her the advantage due to her chemical senses. Complications: Desire Slick is a seductive character who has an eye for the pretty ladies and handsome gents. Enemy Slick is still hunted by modern day Nazi Fascists, lead by Doctor Hans Hirschbeigel, an aged Nazi scientist who believes Slick's physiology holds the key to reversing the ageing process. Rage Slick will react violently and emotionally to any experimentation on human beings. Infact, Fassbinder pharmaceuticals has built up a reputation of the highest standard of ethics in their work, and has influenced many of today's rigorous ethical standards. Secret Slick has no desire for Felix Fassbinder to become known as Slick. Slick Slick's oily secretions are quite evident, both visually and (to a lesser degree) with olfactory senses, if they are activated. 16. "Well, I suspect that's enough to get me started", smiled Supercape. "And i'll be sure to call on you chaps if the Gorilla does turn up. " Supercape still looked the same at first glance. But the perceptive would notice he carried himself just a little taller, his gaze just a little firmer, and his smile was no longer so tainted with insecurity. In short, he looked a little more like a superhero, a little less like a man in a large cape. "Colt, I guess the only way I'll truly get to be a hero is to get going with heroic actions. I can't thank you enough." He took the experienced man's hand and clasped it with both of his, shaking it earnestly. "Now, I'd best get going. Is it the front door this time, or are you still Mr. Security? That spiffing box thing again I suppose?"
  17. Supercape breathed out long and slow. "I really hope it never comes to that. I would like to be able to sleep easy. But it strikes me that doing anything, even in that situation, is worse than doing nothing out of fear. A man has to do, as I believe you American folk say, what a man has to do. What would happen if Supercape never turned up at all? Mr. Simian would just activate his death ray. " "Yes, one has to do something. Even if its not easy. " Supercape looked at Colt. "It's not going to be easy is it? But I have to thank you for letting me know. Forewarned is forearmed, as they say. " He flashed a slightly nervous smile, full of a boyish charm that belied his years.
  18. Just the sort of Ethical dilema that is so simple logically, but so hard emotionally. Supercape frowned, and massaged his forehead. "But there are so many variables. I guess its a judgement call, Colt. What is the fate of a few hundred compared to the fate of the planet?" Supercape knew the logical answer, but he was still only human. "I guess whatever I do, I'm going to regret it, Colt. Maybe that's the way it is to be a Hero. If you are asking what I think I should do, I would go for that death ray first. If you are asking what I would do, that's another matter. It's not easy to think calmly in that situation. I guess I will only know if I can hold true to what I should do under that kind of pressure. " He looked away, unable to look at Colt directly. "But if I caused those folks to die. It would rest heavy on me. Very heavy. I... I'm not sure, Colt. How do you live with this stuff?"
  19. Out of the wall sprung 5 figures. Supercape scanned them. If nothing else, he couldn't be accused of recklessness. Quite the reverse. Whilst they looked human, their mass was all wrong. Mannequins, he realised. At least he wasn't being asked to shoot down real crooks! He noticed that four were carrying firearms. The last was carrying just an umbrella. And a normal one at that, no James-Bond-Poison-Dart device. The set up of this place made him half expect "Q" to pop round the corner and discuss his latest gadget laden car. Supercape wasn't quick, but he was methodical. Focussing his mind on each target one by one, and exciting the appropriate atoms, each of the gun wielding mannequins was bathed in a greeny-red radiation and exploded, disintegrated, or plain melted. Only the umbrella and its innocent holder remained upright. He gave Cape a smile. "Jolly good show! I might just pull this hero thing off!" he said with a little pride.
  20. Supercape's Notice Roll 1d20+10=25
  21. "Well", answered supercape, cracking his knuckles. "The mind is a wonderful thing... especially mine", he smiled and gave a wink. He felt more at home now, thanks to Colt's natural charm. "I won't go into the math, but its all about how the mind can change quantum states of particles. If you want to call them particles. I'm not sure I do. " "So, by doing so, I can create electromagnetic radiation. By directly exciting atoms". Untrue to his word, he excitedly started spieling out complex maths and physics that would be incomprehensible to all but post graduate level physicists. "...So, pragmatically, this allows one to do THIS", he finished, exhausted by his monologue. And with a wave of his arm, and a blurring of the air, came a flash of green radiation at the end of the hallway, causing the remains of the clay targets to melt and burst. Supercape was quite pleased with himself. "Its all electromagnetic radiation you see, from atomic energy. I can create it anywhere. Give me a target, and I can do all sorts with it. "
  22. Supercape was impressed. He was used to high tech stuff, working at the University. But this place had class even by his standards. "Magnificent", he spluttered. "And thanks for the ride. Nice little Box you have! Interesting mechanics." "This is the Underground, you say?", Supercape babbled, not really paying attention to Cape for a few moments as he spun around, taking in all the sights, sounds, and other impressions of the place that his extraordinary senses let him. "Impressive. Splendid. Quite a show!" Feeling more intimidated than ever, he grasped at his cape that fluttered and expanded. Drawing it around his body, he attempted a display of more confidence. "Now then sir, how might I demonstrate my credentials?"
  23. Supercape has his supersenses on here, detect energy and mass (Accurate, acute, ranged, radius).
  24. Supercape took the blindfold. "X-Ray Vision? Um. No. Not exactly X Ray Vision. Not X Ray vision so to speak. " Supercape looked Colt up and down. On the one hand, he didn't want to start lying. On the other hand, he didn't relish the thought of how he might be carted off to the base if he owned up. As far as he knew, there wasn't any practical way of forcibly turning off his ability to sense mass and energy around him. Aside from being knocked out. And it looked like Colt could be a man of just such pragmatic measures, and a mean hook. "Well...." he paused. "It's not so much X ray vision. But, I don't think this will really do the job." He handed the small blindfold back with one hand, and started rubbing his jaw unconsciously with the other. "I don't suppose you could just trust me?" He gave a nervous smile...
