  1. "Ooooookay..." Just as confused as he was relieved to be set down by the potent pup, Momentum could only manage to stare awkwardly between the woman and the massive wolf-thing as he pulled the bottom of his attire down, relieving the uncomfortable tension brought about by his unwanted uplift. Clearly, there was more here than Noah had initially perceived. It wasn't like it was every day he saw a massive wolf-lookin' guy leering over a woman who, supposedly, could dispatch the entity if she wanted to. Letting the moment of embarrassment linger for a second, the teen hero-in-training verbally began anew. "Just... uh... what's... I so don't get it." the hood-clad hero enunciated, arms thrust upwards in overly-exaggerated confusion. "Who are you guys, and why are you hangin' out in a frickin' park in the middle of the night?!!"
  2. Finally, the red-hooded kid ceased to squirm, now thoroughly peeved by the sardonic woman and her condescending demeanor. If he weren't in a death-grip with the gargantuan guard dog, Momentum would have wholly whirled around to meet his less-than-grateful victim. "I totally moved him! You saw it! You were there!" Noah sputtered in rapid succession, the insults hurting more than just his pride as his heroic nature was called into question. "I was desperate; and at least I'm tryin'! You're just standing there like you..." And then came the epiphany, the synapses in his brain finally working on conjunction long enough to piece together the recently divulged information between Momentum's own impatient bouts verbal defense. "You know this thing?!" the bewildered hero cried, his sensitivity regarding the creature holding him on high with one massive paw about as tactful and discreet as an Uwe Boll movie is sensible.
  3. Blinking quietly for a fraction of a second at the young woman in a strange sense of disbelief at what he'd heard. "Hey!" retorted Momentum, still squirming violently to get free from the terrifying grasp of the macho pooch as he addressed the unusually calm woman. "I just, like, saved your butt! You were supposed to run away!" he belted out, still vainly attempting to free himself from the clutches of his new-found foe. Clearly, the magnitude of the circumstances in which he now found himself continued to evade Noah's stellar mental faculties. Nevertheless, the wiry vegan hero continues to squirm and flail clumsily in mid-air, adamant on attempting to escape the vice-like grip of the furry fiend before him. "So, y'know, feel free to run away whenever!"

  5. "Oh crap!" Going pale as the massive wolf reached for him, Momentum soon found himself caught between the elongated claws of the terrifying creature, quickly being hoisted up by the back of his craptacular disguise. Discontent and fear followed soon after as the young would-be hero began to panic in the wake of his far-superior adversary. Things definitely weren't going as well as they could be. "Lemme go!" flailed the youth as the beast enunciated in its guttural growls, kicking and squirming as he was held up aloft by the far more menacing and muscular entity. "And, like, what kinda gang hangs out in a park anyway?! I just want you to let that lady go and stuff, or... uh... or else!"
  6. Reeling from the concussive impact, the young charger stumbled backwards, the sheer tenacity of the snarling beast enough to stop Momentum (ironically) dead in his tracks. At least if nothing else, the outlandishly large beast was no longer pinning the young woman to the ground, ready to rip her throat out in some sort of blood-fueled furor. "I... might not have totally thought that one all the way through..." Noah mentally chided himself, slightly displeased with how he'd inadvertently pushed the beast back into the girl, even if it was only momentarily before the woman scurried out from the beast's grasping claws. Standing close enough to cause personal discomfort for himself in the darkened park, Momentum remained poised in plain sight, adjusting his goggles from the blunt trauma he'd just endured. Garbed in an impromptu costume of a red-and-white hoodie with the hood pulled over his head, tacky goggles, faded black jeans and red-and-white high-tops, the slightly terrified hero-in-training steeled himself to face this most alien of foes. Out of his league or not, Momentum had to at least make an effort to stop this lethal fiasco! "J-just back off, man!" the jittery teen demanded with only the faintest of confidence, pointing decisively at the hulking behemoth of a snarling hound, oblivious to the full situation at hand. "Leave her alone, or you'll have to... uh... deal with me!"
  7. It had been a fairly uneventful evening for Momentum; at least as uneventful as sneaking out after curfew in pursuit of fighting crime on the weekends can be, at any rate. Downtown Freedom had been unusually quiet for a change: no plaintiff cries for help, no daring robberies being committed in the glamorous moonlight, no nothing. Zip, zilch, nadda. And so here he was, all gussied up with no wrongs to right as the hero-in-a-hoodie sprung through the air, sailing prodigiously over rooftops and trees alike with klutzy aplomb. But hey, at least he was out trying to be a productive little super-powered bee, and that had to count for something. Parkside was his last stop for the evening patrol, more so out of a sense of quiet reprieve from the aggravatingly annoying whooshing sound ringing through Momentum's ears brought about from his constant acrobatic rise and fall. With a harsh landing and an awkward flailing of his arms to catch himself, the young hero came to a stop just outside the park's entrance, a sight he'd only visited once during daylight hours during his curious tour of the massive city when he'd first arrived. "Sweet," the boy mentally applauded, stuffing his hands inside his impromptu costume as he began to trundle his way along the concrete pathway. "Stroll through the park, catch my breath, and then it's back home for some beauty sleep. Just gotta keep from getting ca--" His heart skipped a beat for a moment, the typically upbeat Canadian's train of thought faltering as he laid eyes on a most terrifying scene. There, lying upon the brush of grassy green foliage in the distance, was a young woman pinned to the ground! While this was certainly alarming, what made this particular visage truly horrific was what held the woman down: a massive body of fur and teeth and claws! This thing was inhuman, a monstrosity obviously intent on ravaging the girl like she was some sort of meal-on-wheels! "Holy crap!" Momentum finally barked out, wholly intending to do so quietly within the sanctity of his own mind but failed miserably. He had to do something, or something was going to happen to that poor woman! Laying down a burst of speed, the plucky young hero charged forward and hurled himself towards the wolfenstein of a beast, intent on dislodging its massive body from atop what might be another of its many victims as far as he knew.

  10. A little irked by the thought of being shooed off like some sort of annoying gnat, the young man just stands there for a few heartbeats, blinking silently as the policeman with the megaphone barks his commands towards the massive crowd behind him. With a certifiable interest, Momentum turns to face the unflinching crowd, their movements as still and immobile as when he had to force his way through only moments prior. "Don't... uh... take this the wrong way or anything, sir," the hero in the hoodie replied earnestly, turning back to face the senior officer, "but I think you, like, need all the help you can get right now." Surveying the increasingly crotchety crowd behind the ominous sphere of crimson, it didn't take a rocket scientist to deduce that the situation was becoming increasingly more hostile. If this... whatever-it-was that had engulfed the The Luxury was as big a threat as it seemed and definitively not a hoax, then it was clear that these people had to go. Now. Turning decisively to face the on-lookers for what already felt like the umpteenth time, hands upraised in as calming a fashion as the inexperienced hero could muster. "You heard em', guys! This is... um..." Momentum hesitated, unsure how to address the delicate situation. "This is just a... a technical issue!" feigned the young teen. "Yeah, that's it. The electronic-bits and stuff are just on the fritz and junk, generating inaudibly high-frequency jigga-watts that could totally cause the building to explode from the... uh... compressed sound-wave-stuff. This red thing is just, erm, a counter-measure. It's all very complicated. The Luxury'll be, like, opening later tonight. Probably really late tonight. Sorry for all the hype and stuff. You can all, uh, go home now. Like, right now." Perhaps it wasn't the most noble thing to do, but hey; when the truth doesn't suffice, sometimes you need to twist words a little bit, right?

  14. "Huh." cooed the red-clad hero-in-training, peering wide-eyed through his goggles off towards the outlandishly large sphere of crimson as he soared through the air from his prodigious leap, the familiar rush of air rushing its way through his hoodie as the young teen plummeted towards ground zero of the incident. "I guess it really is a big deal..." When Momentum received the Twitter feed about a giant thirty-story tall red sphere engulfing a newly-opened casino on the Boardwalk in the middle of his first period class, he was slightly skeptical at the description given. This was unfamiliar territory, and sounded like it was some sort of elaborate hoax or publicity stunt to draw in potential customers. Sure enough, throngs of people stood prominently out from below like a field of ants, their tide stemmed by a motley assortment of what the hero-on-high could only presume to be Freedom City's boys in blue. This could be it for Noah; his chance to prove that he had what it took to stand side-by-side with the world's greatest superheroes on their home turf and join the big league of super-heroics! "How hard could it be, right?" With a tumultuous thud and an awkwardly clumsy stumble as he landed, the up-and-coming hero-to-be known as Momentum hit the scene with all the poise and dignity of a drunken rhinoceros, barely managing to keep his own footing as he came to a stop behind the awe-struck crowd within its moment of intense silence. Glancing about warily to take in the strangely picturesque situation from the rear, Momentum straightened himself up, attempting vainly to emulate some form of heroic stature as he began wading through the gaggle of citizens ogling the far-fetched sight before them towards the policemen trying desperately to keep the peace. "Excuse me. Hi. Hero comin' through and stuff..." Momentum murmured to the townsfolk as he pushed through, oblivious to nigh everything save for the apparent cause of distress and the line held at the forefront of the city's denizens, feigning as much confidence as he could muster despite his lack of... well, suffice it to say that this wasn't exactly his field of expertise. With bountiful strides for such a short fellow, he finally presses onwards and through to reach the officer on the front-lines outside of the hazy red hue. "Hey," chimes the surprisingly chipper kid, his voice rich with a far northern accent as he greets the elderly officer with a tentative, but very unheroic wave. "So what's the deal with the..." Momentum begins, but trails off as he catches a glimpse of an enigmatic fellow in an unusually large cloak and his lovely female assistant atop the familiar Channel 3 Action News Van; no doubt here for the same reasons he was. He'd yet to actually see any other superheroes in-person since his arrival, and this at least gave him some relief that he wasn't the first super-schmuck on the scene. "Sorry. Kinda, uh, spaced out there," Momentum hummed, returning his goggled sight towards the policeman. "I bet you've already gotten this, like, a million times already, but what's up with the big red dome-thing over the casino, officer?"

Tropes Galore Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Par for the course in the life of a teenager. Burning Building Rescue: Played straight for the first time in Under a Crimson Glow. Canada Eh: Noah's Canadian, eh. Civvie Spandex: Momentum's current costume, on account of the fact that he was unable to suitably make his own. Could also be taken as Not Wearing Tights. Clark Kenting: When your disguise consists of steampunk goggles from a Halloween costume and the hood of a hoodie pulled over your head, you'd think recognition by passers-by would be a certainty or something! Code Name: Played straight. Gender Blender Name: Played straight, courtesy of a random name generator. Noah's first name is actually Ashley. Girlfriend in Canada: At one point, Noah had a girlfriend in Canada. No, really! I Just Want to be Normal: Mostly averted. Noah still wants some semblance of a normal existence, but is (slowly) adopting a more heroic outlook. Kid Hero: Noah began the whole superhero gig at fifteen. Mass Super Empowering Event: Terminus Baby. 'Nuff said. New Transfer Student: Played straight. Puberty Superpower: Played straight. Noah discovered his latent mutant powers at the tender age of fourteen. Secret Identity: Played straight. Momentum is Noah's moniker for just this reason. Superhero School: Averted. Momentum might very well be the only PC Teen Superhero not attending Claremont Academy. Teens Are Short: Played straight, and pretty self-explanatory. Totally Radical: Noah totally has a habit of talking like this and junk when he can't come up with anything to say. And stuff. This could also be taken as a form of Verbal Tic. Wake Up Go To School Save The World: Pretty much Momentum's current shtick.

  18. Removed "Full Power" from Drawback list at the bottom of my submission, since it cannot be a Character Drawback; the Power Drawback is still listed within Momentum's Kinetic Control array however, and calculated with the rest of the Drawbacks still in the list purely for the sake of numeric consistency. Also switched out Drain [Movement] for Boost [Movement], which seemed to make more sense in retrospect.
  19. Power Level: 8 (112/116PP) Trade-Offs: None Unspent PP: 4 Gold Status: 11/30 In Brief: The new Canadian super-kid on the block with a lot to prove as an up-and-coming hero-to-be. Character Name: Momentum Alternate Identities: Ashley Noah Childers Identity: Secret Birthplace: Bancroft, Ontario Occupation: High-School Student/Fledgling Hero Affiliations: Franklin D. Roosevelt High School Family: Dr. Daniel Childers (Father; Age 41), Sarah Childers (Mother; Age 39), Peter Childers (Younger Brother; Age 3 Months), Katelyn Childers (Older Sister; Age 18) Age: 16 (DoB: September 3rd, 1994) Apparent Age: 15 – 17ish Gender: Male Ethnicity: Caucasian/French-Canadian Height: 5’6†(1.5m) Weight: 135 Lbs. (61kg) Eyes: Brown Hair: Brown Physical Description: Always having been a bit on the short end of the stick, Ashley has always been the quintessential little guy, lean and wiry in build; the latter likely due to his parentally-enforced vegan diet coupled with frequent but less-than-extreme physical activity. Suffice it to say that the French-Canadian isn’t exactly an intimidating figure, barely heavy enough to avoid being confused with a chronic bulimic. His young visage bears a smattering of slight freckles on the cheeks of his lightly sun-kissed face inset with muddy brown eyes, a full-head of short but forever-messy hair of a greasy, tussled persuasion crowning Noah’s precious little head in a style reminiscent of a traditional Caesar cut. While operating out-of-costume, Noah typically sports a very casual style of dress: practical tee-shirts of various styles, slacks or jeans, so on and so forth. When out and about as Momentum, he becomes quite the spectacle. Lacking the actual talent to craft a truly befitting costume of a heroic nature on his own, the young Canadian hero-in-training simply opts for donning an outfit derived from pre-made garments: a hoodie adorned with thick red and white stripes over a white t-shirt, worn black jeans, and his red-and-white high-tops. He looks completely ridiculous, though to be fair he’s still fairly new to this whole superhero nonsense. His actual disguise isn’t much better, simply donning a pair of cheap steampunk-esque goggles from a Halloween now years passed and pulling the hood on his sweatshirt over his head. History (Abridged): Ashley Noah Childers lived the prototypical suburban teen life growing up in Ontario: his loving parents were outrageously lame, his older sister Katelyn was a self-centered raging prima donna, school was that strangely distinct amalgam of both suck and awesome, and all of his friends were just as awkward and immature as he was. It was a simple life for the Bancroft-born Canadian, and a good one that Noah reveled in. Things might not have always gone his way, but in the end they always worked themselves out. More importantly though was the fact that Noah was content with what he’d been given, taking both the good and bad aspects in stride with his go-getter, up-beat attitude. Things got a little weirder when Noah was fourteen, and not in that classic teenage sort of way. Strange things began to happen around him; it was minor at first, occasionally having objects move just a few inches from his fingertips as Noah grasped for them, or having an unusual pep in his step during his morning trips to the bus stop, all of which Noah dismissed as little more than coincidence or flukes. It wasn’t long after these minor incidents, however, that these coincidences revealed they were anything but. After accidentally blasting a kitchen shelf full of canned goods in a gross display of raw kinetic energy at home, it became painfully obvious that Noah was no longer just a normal, boring, every-day teenager. In a flash, his life had gone from ordinary to extraordinary with the sudden emergence of latent powers, instilling an overwhelming sense of fear and uncertainty in the young man. It was a gradual inundation over the next year, one which Noah took great pains to keep squirreled away from his loving parents and dearest friends, terrified of what they might think of him lest his powers manifest in front of them. As time passed and the young mutant discovered more and more of his abilities through random happenstance and earnest interest, they gradually became easier to obfuscated and control, affording him a sense of modest certainty at the least with which to keep his secret from flaring up and alarming the community. Beyond that though, it instilled in the boy thoughts of grandeur and dreams of being more than just an abnormal boy trying to feign normalcy. He’d seen them on the news numerous times; those dashing heroes and heroines who always saved the day, their altruistic sensibilities and desire to do the right thing resounding with conviction for each speech made. Using their unique abilities and talents, these individuals took it upon themselves to do more with what they’d been given or achieved for the community-at-large. Inspired by the heroes he’d grown up watching from afar, Noah took the moniker Momentum for himself, even going so far as to hash together an impromptu costume to hide his identity as he took up the mantle of a hero. His initial success was denoted as bumbling at best; barely able to thwart lesser criminals though frequently failed to bring them fully to justice. With practice, however, Momentum steadily grew into his role as a vigilante for good. Through a careful balancing act of friends, family, school, and his newfound heroic antics, Noah had finally found himself in a nice niche, his life far more exciting and purposeful while still retaining some sense of normalcy in his day-to-day routine. It wasn’t perfect, but the fledgling superhero was content with how things had turned out for him so far, and wanted for nothing. It was no secret to neither Noah nor his sister that their mother was pregnant with her third child, a fact quickly announced by their father when it was discovered. What Noah failed to notice, however, was how little space there was in his modest home to accommodate another person, let alone raise a child. As luck would have it, Noah’s father had been offered a job at ASTRO Labs in Freedom City, with an ample supplement for his currently modest salary. It was soon settled upon that accepting this offer was a necessary decision, and that the family would soon be relocating from their comfortable home on the tip of the Canadian Shield for the hustle-and-bustle of New Jersey. Just like that, Noah’s life as he knew it came to a close. A month after Noah’s mother gave birth to Peter; the family began preparations to leave Bancroft behind for greener fields. Once Noah said his solemn good-byes to his closest comrades, he bade farewell to his home near the York River and its quaint charm with his parents, departing by plane for the superhero-flooded city of Freedom City. Like every dark cloud, there’s always a silver lining, and this one was no exception. It’s only been a few weeks since the family arrived in Freedom City, taking up residency in the Midtown area, but the fledgling would-be hero has already taken a liking to what he’s seen thus far of what was once the center of the Terminus Invasion, not to mention the current home of the Freedom League. With his arrival in such a hero-centric locale, the opportunity to really put what little he’d learned dealing with minor criminals back home and put his mettle to the test. A new school, a new city, and a whole new world from the one the young Canadian left behind: nothing Momentum can’t handle! Or so he hopes. Personality & Motivation: An optimistic and extroverted individual, Noah’s all for living in ‘the now’: trying new things, meeting new people and making friends. Neither particularly interested in nor dissuaded from academic pursuits, the young teenager much rather prefers to spend his free time doing what most kids his age do: trying to socialize, fit in, and indulging in his own personal hobbies, particularly in relation to the ever popular trends in social media such as music and film. Noah's also still got a lot of growing up to do, and with that comes its own problems; such as determining who he really is and what direction he wants his life to go in once he's out on his own. Immature and impatient, there's a lot in life that Ashley isn't emotionally or psychologically prepared for. Of note, Noah openly admits that he's not ready for an "intimate" relationship of any kind, the subject of which makes him highly uncomfortable if brought up in conversation. On the heroic front, having been one of only a few ‘capes’ back home by comparison to Freedom City and dealing with equally as few members of the criminal element, Momentum didn’t exactly have a prime cut in the vigilante business; an occupation he’s taken a liking to ever since he discovered his unique powers about a year prior. Freedom City – being a proverbial hive of scum and villainy – now serves as the ultimate in training exercises, no doubt rife with potential experience for someone who’s eager to join the heroic scene. While Momentum might not fully comprehend the magnitude of what a ‘hero’ truly is beyond bashing criminals in the face for the greater good, he’s at least optimistic and makes an effort towards trying to discover what that means on his own whilst attempting at the very least to do his part, fighting the good fight out of a sense of personal obligation brought on with the manifestation of his powers. But there's always that fine degree of uncertainty: is this really a lifestyle Momentum wants to lead for the rest of his life, or simply a passing phase triggered by teenage dreams of grandeur? Powers & Tactics: While a proper wordsmith could probably elaborate more effectively in regards to the formulated tactics involved in using raw, kinetic force to thwart evil-doers, miscreants and ne’er-do-wells, the simplest form of explanation is to summarize Momentum as such: a one-trick pony with an easy to perform trick. With a variety of kinetic powers at his disposal, the most basic form of defeating evil in any of its incarnations is to – as Noah would so adequately state it – “… punch them from really far away until they stop getting up.†Granted, there’re more tricks up his sleeve and abilities at his disposal therein, but that’s about the basics of it. With only a smattering of experience in the (recently self-employed) field of crime-fighting, Noah lacks the distinct time in the field (and overall patience) necessary to truly formulate overarching, complex schemas in terms of his current power set, and thus rarely plans ahead, preferring to charge-in like some sort of semi-deranged action hero, slugging it out till’ either he’s down for the count or they are. Complications: What Do You Mean I’m Not Old Enough?! (Age): Being underage means that certain freedoms afforded to the general populace are, for all intents and purposes, barred to Noah due to his status as a minor. This makes it particularly daunting to enter certain facilities such as bars and clubs that have a minimum age requirement as well as other more mundane things such as admittance into certain venues, not to mention impossible to vote. Homeroom at Eight O’Clock Sharp (Responsibility): As a teenager, Noah has a lot on his plate, not even counting his shenanigans as a superhero. Being a full-time student trying to fit in at Franklin D. Roosevelt High and generating some form of social life is hard enough as it is in a new town, and Noah has little time during the daylight hours to do much in the way of heroics. This isn’t to say he doesn’t try, but eventually his ‘sudden absences’ and ‘missed classes’ are no doubt eventually going to catch up with him. You’re Grounded, Mister! (Responsibility): Being a teenager living with his parents is hard enough, but multiply that with Momentum’s own responsibilities as a hero and now you’ve got a real situation. While showing up late for dinner now and then is generally acceptable, sneaking out at night (even if it’s for the greater good!), breaking curfew and blatantly lying about where he’s been all day treads upon a dangerous line, especially when it paints him in a bad light. Getting caught could be problematic for numerous reasons, such as his parents discovering his double-life, or losing faith and trust in him if they discovered Noah was a mutant and had been keeping it a secret from them. With this in mind, Noah must frequently find ways to make time for not only school and heroics, but for his family as well, attending functions if necessary, lending a hand when it’s asked of him, so on and so forth lest he face the consequences of grumpy parental units... and potentially put them all in grave danger. It’s a Secret To Everyone (Secret): As a superhero (in quintessential training), Momentum has certain obligations he has to attend to. Chief amongst these is maintaining his secret identity as Noah Childers, lest his enemies take advantage of his various vulnerabilities: friends, family, so on and so forth. Failure to do so could have disastrous consequences, though he’s thus far managed to hide his super-powers from both his aforementioned former friends and family at home. 20. Thanks for the warm welcome Now, onto the nitty-gritty... Quite right. He suffers from a bit of an inferiority complex (related to established "Supers," as it were.) He's rather ungrateful, to be sure, but this doesn't mean he's willing to go that extra mile in order to make that big leap from "Hero" to "Villain." When it gets right down to it, he just feels he's been cheated out of an otherwise prospective future as a hero, both genetically and by his folks (though I suspect they tried to explain it more clearly, kids just, you know, never listen ) I don't actively see him letting folks fall off of the cliche' skyscraper scenario, and would at least try to do something. Just because he dislikes them immensely donesn't mean they deserve to go squish, for lack of a better example at the moment. P.S. - Sylar? You'll have to forgive me, as I seem to be failing my own Knowledge check here but, erm, who's Sylar? Hmm... you're correct, sir. It shall be fixed immediately. In reference to the "Attack Bonus" bit, I actually had pondered this one a good deal. At first I'd considered "Probably not. Doug would try to get everything he can out of his meager abilities," which then lead to me retorting "But that seems silly. Doug'd maim someone if he constantly used his claws." But again, I find myself asking more questions: "Even if he didn't, would that still constitute a "Strike" Power, or even Attack Specialization (Strike)? If he's capable of digging five-thousand feet a round (you'll see my addendum on that in a moment,) he must have the Strength to back that up, and an equally innate ability to use his hands effectively. Perhaps he doesn't need his claws active for anything other than digging or climbing, and he just socks people with his leathery ol' hands with focused strength, and thus it still falls into the same purview of retaining his ability to use his hands both effectively and innately? Maybe it would be more prudent to take "Attack Specialization (Unarmed Strike)" instead." The folks I've asked this seem to go either way relatively equally, so I'm actually a bit unsure as to whether that'd constitute ranks in Attack Specialization - let alone Strike - or not. For purposes of mechanics, I've instead dropped Attack Specialization in favor of Attack Focus (Melee), since that seems to thematically fit slightly better. In addition, Mighty Strike has been dropped from 5 to 1 to compensate for the over-expenditure of points, which brings his damage in line to +6. Promptly fix'd, sir. Ah. Again, I've misunderstood the "Time and Value" chart. I just presumed that since I couldn't find it, the Value portion represented feet since that's how movement is usually calculated in the d20 System. Aptly corrected. Amended, sir, in addition to another rank being purchased to bump it to 1000'. It's been removed till' further notice. Should you have a suggestion for a similarly themed weakness (or another weakness in general), I'm be all ears :)
  21. Greetings and salutations! I stumbled across your lovely little site the other day, and I couldn't help but try my hand at giving MnM a whirl. I'm no stranger to the system, mind you, but I've only ever played a single game, so it's still fairly "fresh" in regards to the other systems I'm familiar with. But I digress, as this isn't exactly the place for an introduction. Below you'll find my (vainly attempted) character, which can also be located here for a more-or-less easier read. -- Players Name: rpgronin Power Level: PL 6 Trade-Offs: N/A Unspent PP: 0 Characters Name: Douglas William Neilson Alternate Identity: (The) Badger Height: 5’6†Weight: 130 Lbs. Hair: Brown Eyes: Brown Description: Doug’s – in short – a rather scrappy looking lad, a ruffled and tussled mess of mid-length brown hair, with brown eyes full of wild ambition, often dressing to match; clothes that are a good size or two larger than he is, complete with worn “kicks,†torn jeans, and a shirt that looked like it had lost a fight with a Mega-Moth - though still none too revealing – that practically screams Anti-Authority. His hands almost always seem to be coated with a thin layer of caked mud or dirt of some sort despite his best attempts to remedy the problem. Once his claws have extended, the dirt becomes much more visible, as if he’d recently dug a grave, a gravel pit, or some such. History: Born and raised right here in Freedom City’s very own Kingston, Douglas William Neilson was raised on the belief that “all beings are super in some way,†as his parents had always told him. His parents – Patricia and David Neilson, both technicians for the Albright Institute – knew early on that their son was something special. You see, when most kids tell their folks that they’re going to “dig a hole all the way to China,†they usually don’t expect their child to tear through their backyard with their bare hands like a BB pellet tears through wet toilet paper. Suffice it to say that David and Patricia were both shocked and overjoyed to be blessed with a superhuman of their very own. As the years pandered on and Badger grew, however, he began to think little of his own abilities. Sure, he was stronger, faster, and tougher than the regular kids at school, but compared to Freedom City’s exceptional heroes, what were his powers compared to theirs? Centurion had the strength of twenty men, Johnny Rocket was super-fast, and Pseudo could shapeshift. All Badger could do was dig holes and climb trees really, really fast. Oh, and smell things! Yeah. “How lame,†he thought. Granted, he was all but ecstatic to be better than the average kid on the block, but still he wanted more, a side-effect from the pampered, spoiled treatment he’d received growing up. Feeling inferior to every other superhero and superheroine under the impression he’d been cheated out of “awesomeness,†as he put it, Badger insisted that his parents help him. When he demanded outright that they do something – anything! – to improve what he considered to be less-than-useful powers under the premise that he wanted to be a hero himself one day, they refused, retorting that there was really nothing they could do, though they were completely willing to send him to the Claremont Academy if he was interested. Everyone had heard of the “gifted school†Summers ran, but Will insisted that he didn’t need training, just better powers. It was this refusal that first sparked Doug’s rebellious nature at age twelve, under the belief that they had denied him in aiding his cause out of jealousy. Till’ this point, he’d always gotten what he wanted: toys, clothes, money... and now they’d denied him something he’d willing give everything up for! He began to distance his biological parents, and his already less-than-astounding grades in school began to sharply nosedive from a steady “C+†to a horrendous “D-,†and soon began skipping class all together for days or weeks on end. His parents were quite upset with this, and yet there was little they could do, as their research and scientific pursuits at the Albright Institute kept them from doing much else but sternly scolding their only son. After all, he was convinced he was going to be sub-par his entire life. Why care about all that school crap if you're only going to be "Super Mediocre" anyway? Things only continued to go downhill from there. Will began hanging out with a bad crowd consisting of like-minded individuals in the West Side of Freedom City. Vandalism, loitering, and petty theft were but a few of the minor crimes he’d committed alongside his newfound clique’, but it got worse. After a particularly artful – if not completed – visage of Captain Thunder had been sprayed onto a brick wall canvas; Badger found himself sitting in a holding cell at the Freedom Juvenile Hall in South Side. It was eventually his parents whom relieved him of his impromptu jail cell, much to their own chagrin, with Badger being let off with a warning as his first offense in conjunction with a hefty fine. That was it. His mother and father had had enough of his shenanigans, outright disrespect, and disregard of his own safety and that of the law. Fearful of what their boy might turn into if he continued down this path, they delivered him an ultimatum: apply to Duncan Summers’ Claremont Academy (which they, of course, would handle tuition and the like), or be forced to live with his great-grandmother in Missouri. Suffice it to say that their gambit succeeded, as Will definitely didn’t want to live in “Misery.†They hoped the teachers and superhuman students’ influence on Badger would be a positive one, or else they feared their only son would end up within the shackled halls of the infamous Blackstone Federal Prison. With a reluctant heave and a scornful glare, the young super-teen accepted his fate as-is, agreeing that he would attend Claremont and maintain passing grades, and in exchange wouldn’t have to suffer through the insanity and senility that was his great-grandmother, nor the utter boredom that was Missouri. Personality & Motivation: Doug – or Will or Badger, as he prefers to be called – fancies himself a bit of a young rebel revolutionist, though this is all just a front on his own part to seem “cool.†In truth, he really doesn’t have the slightest clue about what he’s – or anyone else, for that matter – talking about once the subject comes up. Much like his fronted demeanour towards society, Badger likewise dresses the part as best he can, emulating a neo-punk look with ratty clothes despite his parent’s affluent background. Like most teenage boys his age, Badger is always up for a party, mingling with girls, or a concert of the hard rock, alternative, or metal variety (“The louder the better!â€Â), and isn’t above sneaking out or disobeying direct instructions to do so. To be frank, Badger’s a troublemaker, and he’s got the bruises to prove it, if you catch the drift. This stems from his own selfish and vain superiority complex, outraged because he feels he’s been cheated out of heroic greatness. Otherwise, Badger is a fairly laid back kid. He's quick to try and make friends despite his snappish attitude, and is more often than not easily coerced into aiding a fellow compadre, no matter what the problem, even if it means breaking every rule in the book. Really, Badger doesn’t feel particularly fond of being forced to attend a school likely littered with teens whose powers will only serve to further diminish his already blasé self-esteem. But, hey, it’s either that or Missouri. And thus the reason Badger has relinquished himself to attend the Claremont Academy: the lesser of two evils. Complications: Super-Sensitive Nose: Though not much of an issue, particularly strong scents such as overly heavy use of perfume and incredibly putrid garbage is enough to send poor Doug reeling, his nostrils feeling as if they were on fire, which is a most unpleasant feeling, to be sure. In addition to the above, it also often obscures and deters all of Badger's Scent related Super-Senses. In more extreme cases, this has been known to make him dizzy, nauseous, or outright faint, though these cases are rather rare, but most often involve his mother's county-famous "Liverwurst Casserole." This better synchs up with Badger's affluent background. EDIT 2: Again, another (though more final) edit prior to judging. Re-arranged a feat and some skills to further accent Badger's physical abilities. EDIT 3: As per Dr. Archeville's prognosis, the following has been amended: Attack Bonus has been amended, dropping Attack Specialization in favor of Attack Focus. Defense Bonus' Flat-Footed block has been corrected. Added in the Knockback bonus. Mighty Strike has been reduced from 5 to 1 to correct the Damage Cap Issue. Radius Scent has been removed, and an additional rank has been purchased in Extended Scent for a total of 1000'. Burrowing's distances have been corrected. The Damage Block has been editted to reflect the ranks removed from Mighty Strike. Removed Badger's Drawback/Complication till' further notice.
