  1. She was riding in the back seat of Dad's Ford Taurus, drifting somewhere between wakefulness and dreaming; squeezed between her older siblings Ben and Edna (who wanted everyone to call her 'Eddi'), she could tell it was still early from the light that crept through her eyelids.

"How long 'til we reach Grampa's house," Eddi asked in her most peevish tone, the one that really set your teeth on edge.

"Not too much longer, maybe another hour and a half, hon," her mother answered.

"I hate visiting Grampa's house; everything is old and smells funny."

Ben, who was completely focused on his Game Boy up until this point, at last spoke up.

"Mom, can you tell Edna to please shut up? I'm trying to play my game."

"Don't call me Edna, I hate that stupid name!"

"Sweetie, it was your Grandma's name."

"I don't care! I hate it and I hate Grandma!"

    - - - - -

    "Grandma's dead."

Lynn woke up with those words on her lips, still angry at her sister for saying such things; she stretched and rubbed her eyes, and was surprised to feel something stuck to her face, cold and slick.

    "What is this thing?"

She tried to sit up in the car seat as she picked at her domino mask, and was suddenly aware that she was not in the back of the Taurus on her way to visit 'Grampaloo', as she loved to call him, but was in fact already in Freedom City, in the arms of a significantly larger man. There was also an alarm going of somewhere nearby, and then a metallic skull hovered into view.

    "Whoa!"

Startled, Grim looked around and got her bearings a bit, noticing she was on top of a roof and in the firm metallic arms of Nanowire, which felt like the safest place in the world to be; she scrunched up her face as she gave him a smile and ran fingers through her hair.

    "Hey, you."

She looked up at the pale winter sun and frowned.

"How long have you been holding me? And did we just rob a bank?"

  4. I've looked at how I think this thread will go, and it seems likely that at least Icarus will be captured by the heroes at the end. Given that capture means that he'll get sent to Blackstone, I'd like to plan ahead so that I have something to do when I get there (besides just break out).

To that end, I'm looking for villains who are willing to get captured so that we can have some scenes on the inside. The three kinds I was thinking of are:

    1) Setting the mood - being superhumans in jail

    2) Thunderbolts/Suicide Squad - the villains are used to take out a threat that the heroes are either unwilling or unable to deal with in a manner that suits the government

    3) And eventually, the breakout, because being in jail for as long as we should be means that our characters would never get out. :)

If you're interested, post to this thread. It'll be a while before it gets started, but I wanted to have people thinking about it so that they can plan current scenes. That way, they can actually get captured by the heroes (which I'm sure the heroes will appreciate, too).

Just to clarify, you are anticipating jail time in the 21st and not the 20th century, right? This may seen like a dumb question, which it kinda is, but I have seen many problems in PbP games created by simple fundamental confusion, and if it's discovered too late, it makes it hell on the GM and players to fix.

Assuming that you are talking about prison in the here and now, I volunteer my uncompleted character (I hope to have the first pass up today) to meet you in prison; it could actually be a really cool storyline, and I've wanted to do a prison break story for years! Would we actually work out the plans IC and stuff, because that would totally rule!

  7. Grim was getting angry, which tended to make her stupid.

This is not how we fight; we fight dirty.

She is about to move in for the attack, when she sees the single shooter still making his way past the opera house; she impatiently calls out to the unknown super in the blue and yellow suit, who is doing good work but not nearly as fast as she would like it.

    "Dude, take him out already!"

And with that, Grim pulls the shadows in around herself and is gone, little more than a smudge in the air if she moves too fast; with malicious satisfaction, she sidles up to the punk closest to the gazebo and lets him have it.

  10. While Icarus doesn't notice it, as quickly as he went through, his portal isn't just sitting there. As the portal's size shrinks, its pull seems to grow. It starts with random street litter being pulled through. By the time it's seven feet high, it's strong enough to lift Nanowire and Grimalkin off the ground, and to pull Teke and Velocity towards it. At five feet high, it is starting to pull cars from over a block away, and larger things are rushing towards the portal too, even if they look too large to fit through it at any angle.

Nothing in her short life has prepared Lynn for this sort of thing; having no understanding of Icarus' powers, she has no idea what is going on, and the powerful nature of the portal's suction seems most unnatural. As she feels herself and Nano rising into the air, she clings to him desperately, more because he is the nearest large object than any sort of feelings she might have for or about him; her voice takes on a manic edge, and she sounds very young and very frightened.

"Oh god! Oh god! Oh god! Oh gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-!"

  13. "Thanks, I actually did not know their names, but now I do"

She then continued. "I really have no reason to suspect you of anything, and did not see you at the museum. But as for your new friend, I’m afraid to say he does qualify, he broke into the Hunter Museum, helped the other one here steal ancient artifacts, and even shot up the entry way of the museum when another heroine and I tried to stop them."

"So what’s it going to be?" She asked, focusing back on the two villains.

God, she was such an idiot! Blabbing out there names like that - wait. She has to face the fact that as much as she likes Nano, he is still a criminal; it hurts to hear what he's done, but she has to remember that even with good intentions, bad guys tend to get good people hurt...

"Stay back, alright?" he said to Grim, and then, "I'm sorry this had to happen.".

Grim rolls her eyes when Nano feels the need to play the 'guy card'.

"Y'know, I actually can take care of myself from time to time; just because I'm not made of steel doesn't mean I can't-"

"What the hell was that?" he said, shaking his head to clear out the cobwebs.

In a flash, all thoughts of criminal behaviour and innocent bystanders go out the window, and Grim is on her knees, cradling Nano's head.

    "Ohmigod, are you all right?"

She looks up sharply at floating boy, presumably the one who applied the smackdown.

"Hey, dark and broody loner guy! Why don't you tell someone when you're going to put up your stupid mime wall? Can you take him to jail with a broken neck?"
