  1. The Ghost moves up to the disk and smiles at Red Queen. "Wouldn't even dream of it," he says as he enters the disk.

Ghost feels a slight flutter in his stomach as he drops into a warm red glowing space without gravity, in which various objects tumble endlessly. Fashionable boots, antique books, long leather coats and large trunks drift past him, and whenever it seems as if they might collide, they harmlessly bounce out of each other's way without actually touching. But it's not all vintage clothing and reading material in here; a long metal case marked with stenciled Cyrillic hovers into view, and boxes of ammunition can be seen chasing each other in the distance. Reddish-white lightening darts here and there, but it does not shock or burn; a bolt of electricity as wide as his wrist shoots clear through Ghost's chest, but all he feels is a slight warm flush. It's hard to get a sense of scale, but the whole space seems to be about twenty yards across, in roughly every direction.

From the now somewhat distant side of the void (apparently he's drifted a bit himself), a smiling Red Queen pops her head through the hole, and when she speaks her voice carries easily across this odd pocket universe, though it is slightly muffled. "'Welcome to my parlor', and all that; back in a tick." And then she's gone, and the black disk contracts down to nothing and then disappears altogether.

Back in the outside world, Faye uses her visual magical projection to make sure she has Imposter's location down before porting over to the loading docks; once there, she hangs back in the shadows near the wall of the museum, and signals the shifter with a low whistle. "Over here, boyeen."

  3. I think that should bring the story to a close. Heritage, you did a good job setting up the next chapter. :) You could even make it a solo game, having Grim explore the underworld on her lonesome. Anything is possible!

Nice closing post, and thanks :D

I think I might want to wait until April to start that particular storyline, so Grim can have the benefits of both her March and April pp purchases; I see a few more ranks of Streetwise in her future, courtesy of Nightrival and her doing some research on her own, i.e. hitting the library and maybe even watching a few movies. Does NR have a DVD player? Grim can bring the popcorn ;)

  5. "Ohhhh... creepy," Ren said with a slight shudder. "It's alright, I'm not in trouble or anything, but..." he jerked on his hand a couple times, trying to bring it back through. When it became obvious that was impossible, however, he frowned. "Crap. I guess I am in trouble. It's stuck."

He leaned back away from the mirror, holding himself at an angle that would have been impossible had his limb not been trapped. "Weird. It feels warmer on the other side." Straightening back up, he took one last look at Lynn and gave her a crooked smile. "Guess I'll see you on the other side."

Ren took a deep breath, and strode through the liquid surface of the mirror.

Lynn blinks back tears as she watches Ren disappear into the mirror's surface. 'Wow, I guess it worked; there must have been some magic in that old black wand we found."

Without warning, she is suddenly upon Louis, doing her best to crush him with a hug. "You are the best Grandpa a girl could ever have; you always were and you always will be. I really want you to know that." Her tears soak into his collar as the moment goes on forever, but is still over way too fast. She kisses him on the cheek and finally lets him go, sniffling and wiping her eyes with the heel of her hand.

Lynn struggles to get back into character as raises the wand once again, a brave smile on her face. "For my final illusion, I will now enter the Mirror of Mystery myself, but I leave you with these parting words, ladies and gentleman!" She pauses for a moment, as she tries to find some quote, some clever phrase that sums up all she's felt over this whole crazy day, but nothing seems to fit; at last, she shrugs and falls back on a classic: "That's all, folks!"

She taps the mirror's sides as did before, then bows, tosses the wand to her grandfather with a sad smile, and whispers "There's no place like home" before closing her eyes and stepping through herself.

  7. "Not unless ya wanted to hit one o' these guys with it. Then again, the cop's could've traced all th' calls from it; I'm sure there's others."

Grim nods as she continues to survey the scene. "Yeah, I'm sure you're right." She moves from unconscious thug to unconscious thug, dropping down to a crouch as she peers closely at their faces. "I'm not sayin' I'm up for it yet, but one of these day I think you should send me undercover, y'know? Into the belly of the beast and all that."

She adopts a sort of composite look, incorporating various features she's gleaned for the various hoodlums into a sort of generic goon: a lean vicious face with greasy hair and two day's beard stubble, wearing a leather jacket, well-worn jeans and dirty hi-tops. Her voice is nasal and ingratiating.

"How ya doin'? Johnny Peshtigo, just rolled in from Atlantic City; you lookin' for some muscle, I'm your guy." 'Johnny' grins and chews a mouthful of imaginary gum. "Whadya think, boss; one of these days, you, me and a wire got a date?"
