  1. Benjiro shakes King's hand, then turns to another new arrival. "Please, call me Mister. The doctorates are honorary- all I ever really earned at the University of Tokyo was a bachelor's in mechanical engineering. The Emissary, you say? I don't believe I have, though I'm familiar with your work helping out with the crime issues around here. Pleased to meet you." Benjiro extends a hand for him to shake as well. How does he keep from straining the floor underneath him? He looks like he'd weigh at least a ton. Curiosity overcoming him, his eyes flicker down momentarily during the handshake, where he sees the Emissary's feet floating a smidge above the floor. Ah. As Megan leaves, he gives her a nod and a smile, then turns back to the developing conversation. Quite an eclectic bunch we've got here.

  3. Benjiro's eyebrows shoot up. "That's quite a schedule. Sounds like you're thinking about going into business law with that courseload?" Combine it with the high academic standards at North Bay and it sounds like a suicidal pace. I hope her parents aren't pushing her into it. Reminds me of my own college days at the University of Tokyo- 120-hour weeks spent learning engineering by day and frantically trying to apply what I'd learned to the suit by night, knowing in the back of my mind that I had to finish it before my fingers became too weak to hold a wielding torch...the money running rapidly dry, living on ramen for three months to afford three ounces of daka crystals... One long nightmare, really. And look where I am now. Maybe a schedule like that isn't such a bad idea.

  6. Relax- nobody's making you leave. Just turn the Midnight Society's exclusive standards into a roleplaying opportunity, like I did- as a superhero with a public identity and 'new money' to boot, the greeter treated him like dirt, and I'll probably make up an NPC guest or two to do the same at him. Make it fun.

  9. Hit checked, but it would have hit in your stunned state, and provoked another +10 damage save against you, without Defensive Roll and no Hero Points. That's a pretty good garuantor of a KO, though you might concievably have surprised me. I'm absolutely open to a 'round 2', particularly since the 'how they met' story seems like it'll need the extra length. Benjiro's Shapeshift can come up with some kind of technological Healing widget to top you off.

  12. Benjiro moves in, slipping past the dazed Nightrival's guard to place a strong thrust against the dazed martial artist's throat; just as it is about to hit, he checks it, leaving the tip against his Adam's apple. It would be much more of a threat if the sword were the sharpened one, but it still puts Nightrival in a situation where he's not going to get past Benjiro's sword without a crushed larynx. "Ippon, I think. Would you like to try again? We've got some wonderful medical tech here that can patch you up very quickly. And I think you let me off easy by ending that wrist lock so quickly." ---- "My Web site, believe it or not, though the prices and licenses usually put them out of reach for individuals." Shinken smoothly hops onto a dumpster's lip and onto the fire escape, landing with a clank of metal on metal. "So, are you really a friend of a friend, or just a friend?"

  15. "Likewise. Your father has praised you quite a bit, you know. You're a senior in the Academy, aren't you? What are you studying?" But Benjiro's solicitous inquiries are interrupted by the somewhat bombastic introduction of Hieronymus King, and he turns his wheelchair slightly to reguard this new arrival. "There's no need to be introduced, I think. We did some business recently- a subsidiary of yours provided the propellant for our our M830A2 plasma-based HEAT rounds. Benjiro Fujisama, of Ares Macrotechnology. It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. King."

  18. What happens if someone who has a conventional Healing power tries it on you? It might make a cool Weakness drawback.

  21. Heh. Tagged you this time- but with an Accurate Attack of +5 and an All-Out Attack of +2, you're only facing a +5 damage bonus. Still something to worry about, for you, but not likely to smack you across the room again.

  24. "Yes, yes it does- good old Shaolin Eagle Claw, not the neutered, showy stuff the State Commission for Physical Culture excreted in the late 1950s. If the only kung fu you've been exposed to is contemporary wushu, you are seriously missing out. But forgive me. This is obviously something of a pet peeve of mine, and I owe you the courtesy of focusing. HUTTAH!" Benjiro makes a pair of lightning-fast, whiplike overhead strikes that target the collarbone from both sides. Despite Nightrival's evasive footwork and well-timed blocks, the strike on the right side of the head gets through. -------- Unable to contain his curiosity, Shinken is there long before midnight. He stops a muggging or two out of sheer nervous energy, and is generally immensely amused to have possibly landed a fellow superhero as a sparring partner.
