  1. Heh. If Benjiro weren't fatigued (as I forgot to account for on the roll I linked) we would have tied on our init scores, and with the same Dexterity to boot. You go ahead.

  4. Shinken walks perhaps ten feet from Nightrival, then turns to face him once again, clearing his mind of the distractions of the last match and preparing himself for this one. His beginning stance this time is less aggressive: rather than raise his sword overhead in preparation of a quick strike, the tip stays at eye level, ready to respond and adapt to an attack. A moment passes, and he is absolutely still. "HAJIME!" He moves, but the strain the Daiitokumyouou put on his muscles and the systems of his battlesuit makes him react a hair slower than Nightrival; he watches warily as the fresher fighter closes, sword tip moving to cover his opponent. -------- "Well, I've got a decent mass spectrometer built into this thing. Given a sample- and depending on a lot of different factors, largely depending on the composition of this Zoom stuff and what the wind's like tonight- I might be able to find concentrations of the stuff in a local area. If there's a stockpile of some kind nearby, that could lead us to the source. Not a perfect plan, but it's better than nothing. You up for it?"

  7. For instance, he may have some threat in mind that will require two heroes to take care of. Something to keep in mind if any of you Refs want to run something.

  10. Okay, Shapeshifting to get Healing 6 with the Total extra. You get a recovery check at +6, healing an additional condition for every 5 you exceed the DC by. And, yeah- once things start again, it's a new combat, with new init.

  13. Shinken nods. "There's an astonishing amount of depth in the Yagyū Shinkage-ryū. I've made its techniques the basis for everything I do with the blunt sword. That particular move took about six and a half months to properly program. You took it very well...in fact, come to think of it, you're the first person I've seen stay standing after being hit with it, up to and including some minor metahumans." A few lights flash, and a panel pops off his forearm to reveal a transparent packet of blue gel. "Rub this on the bruise and wait a minute. It ought to take care of things- give you a second round on an equal footing." ---------------- "It didn't take much. It could be that my reputation as a superhero smoothed things over for people who would otherwise have been tight-lipped, but I didn't conduct the investigation personally- so anyone looking for remarkable martial artists in the Freedom City area and claiming to be working for a known hero could have gotten the same information I did. Something to think about." Shinken leans against the building, gesturing to Nightrival. A streetlight glints eerily off his face mask. "Do you have any idea on where to start, or do we start looking for drug dealers and work our way up?"

  16. Players Name: Toptomcat Power Level: 6 Characters Name: Jacky 'The Iron Horse' Baldini Alternate Identity: None Height: 5'11" Weight: 190 lb Hair: Black Eyes: Brown Description: Jacky is a fantastically fit man in his early thirties, with the big, defined upper body of a heavyweight boxer in his prime. History: The history of boxing is filled with 'greats'- Mohammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Jack Dempsey...men recognized as titans of the sport. However, while there are many 'greats', there are remarkably few 'bests'. Was Joe Louis the hardest hitter of all time? Mohammad Ali, the fastest heavyweight? Roy Jones Jr. the best pound-for-pound fighter? None can say- for every amazing boxer, there's another of a different generation with just as much to reccomend them. However, there is one fighter who is almost universally recognized as having been the very best in history at doing one thing. Jacky 'The Iron Horse' Baldini could take a beating like no other man alive. His record was not undefeated, but he was beaten by only the very best; even his losses were recognized by his opponents and the crowds that watched him as incredible displays of fighting spirit and sheer heart. In the first professional fight of his career, in 1975, he stepped in as a local alternative when a boxer scheduled to face Mohammad Ali recieved a training injury. Against all odds, Baldini knocked the champion down in the first round, and proceeded to 'go the distance' in a fifteen-round war that put him on the map and endeared him to the American public. The fight went to a split decision, narrowly awarded to Ali. This kicked off a career of incredible length and distinction; of particular note was his 1980s victory against Drago "The Soviet Superman" Ivanovitch- later proved to be a literal superhuman- his heroic loss of the title to Mike Tyson and unbelievable regaining of it a mere two months later, and his semiretirement, interrupted by another epic, coruageous loss- an unbelievable exhibition match against Evander Holyfield in which he proved that his sheer will could overcome the handicap of a sixty-year old physique. He moved to Freedom City and retired from boxing for good in 2000, a satisfied old man with absolutely nothing else to prove. Then, one day, a miracle happened. The aged Baldini was caught in the crossfire of a battle between the Freedom League and an alternate version of the time-traveling reformed Nazi Dr. Tomorrow- this one not so reformed. Caught on the fringes of a time dialation blast intended to de-age Lady Liberty into infancy, he was restored to the prime of his youth. A devout Roman Catholic, he saw this astonishing boon as a gift from God that is to be used for the good as all, and has chosen to abandon the world of boxing- what more does he have to prove there, after all- and emulate the superhuman champions that indirectly caused his rebirth and start cleaning up the slums of South Freedom. Fame: Jacky Baldini is one of the most famous boxers in history. Though he hasn't made his return to his physical prime public, it could make for a large number of "WTF?" moments when people hear of someone who looks exactly like a famed 70-80s boxer cleaning up the streets. Those who think too much could go looking for what's making the illusion, or why someone made a Jackie Baldini robot, or have any number of other potential misunderstandings. I had a lot of ideas for my PL 6 character, but I eventually settled on a pastiche of Ted Grant and Rocky Balboa. I hope the PL-breaking Boost is all right.

  19. Benjiro would be greeting her as well, if he didn't have to deal with King and the Emmisary. He'll try to give her some attention at a later point, but as it is he'd sort of be overwhelmed if he tried to say hi now. Speaking of the Emissary, MarkK, I have a cool idea I'd like to get your approval for. Since Benjiro is a public superhero who's almost entirely helpless without his battlesuit, the man pushing his wheelchair is a highly capable bodyguard- and, being an employee of a high-end military equipment supplier with an inventor of Benjiro's caliber at the helm, he's likely to be exotically armed. Since daka crystals factor in much of the ultra-tech in the Freedom City-verse, I was thinking that the power packs of the blaster pistol he's carrying could have trace amounts of daka crystals in 'em- not enough to trigger your Weakness at full strength, but enough to make you decidedly uncomfortable around him and maybe give you a vicious headache by the end of the night. It could make for some intriguing distrust and suspicion on the Emissary's part against Benjiro that could ferment for a while, or it could lead to an interesting misunderstanding right now if that's what you want. What do you say?

  22. Benjiro shakes King's hand, then turns to another new arrival. "Please, call me Mister. The doctorates are honorary- all I ever really earned at the University of Tokyo was a bachelor's in mechanical engineering. The Emissary, you say? I don't believe I have, though I'm familiar with your work helping out with the crime issues around here. Pleased to meet you." Benjiro extends a hand for him to shake as well. How does he keep from straining the floor underneath him? He looks like he'd weigh at least a ton. Curiosity overcoming him, his eyes flicker down momentarily during the handshake, where he sees the Emissary's feet floating a smidge above the floor. Ah. As Megan leaves, he gives her a nod and a smile, then turns back to the developing conversation. Quite an eclectic bunch we've got here.
