  1. Lila watched the expression of disbelief form on the man's face. "It's true," she said. "Watch!" Lila closed her eyes and concentrated hard. Nothing. "Crap!" she thought. How had she done it before? "Got it!" Lila tried to think of the most embarrassing thing possible. That was what seemed to do the trick the last time. For a few seconds she wracked her brain, reliving some truly humiliating moments, and then it hit her. The grand prize! That thing that she had been trying not to think about for the last hour. Just the thought that R.J. might have been reading her mind all this time caused her face to turn beat read, and she vanished again. "See?" said the disembodied voice. "Invisible."

  5. Agnes hastily and very sloppily finished up her school work at about 3:00 PM. She had been beside herself with excitement all day, making it exceptionally difficult for her to concentrate. With Sister Agatha's permission, she changed her clothes, summoned the sword, and began running as fast as she could up the stairwell into the church's steeple. Agnes used the dusty old spiral staircase frequently to reach the roof. She did her best thinking, praying, and writing on the small flat piece of room just behind the steeple. Technically, no one was allowed up there or out on the roof (which is where she was headed), but the Fathers never said anything to her about it. She was always very responsible, and it was not like they thought she might fall and break her neck. Her neck was pretty tough. Pushing open the little door at the top of the stairwell, Agnes crawled through onto the roof. The air was cold, and everything looked a deep red in the light of the setting sun. Agnes looked down on the the expanse of the West End that stretched out all around the church. She smiled. It was a good place to live and she loved it and this old church dearly. Carefully, far more carefully than was necessary for a girl who could fly, Agnes stepped out onto the slanted part of the roof and took a few steps away from the little door so she could see around the steeple. She was looking for someone, someone who was supposed to meet her here. And there he was. "Hey," she said, giving the Emissary a little wave.

    Super Bowl

We are planning on having a fun little Super Bowl party tomorrow. Nothing fancy; about 20 people. I almost never follow football. I'm much more of a soccer lover myself.

  11. Guys, I'm not sure how much posting I'm going to get done in the next few days. I may fall off the radar for awhile. Sorry. Since we are playing ourselves, it should be no trouble with Lila following along silently and doing very little.

  20. After a few more minutes of conversation, Agnes said her goodbyes to the Emissary and Lady Liberty and returned back to her little room at the church. She planned to call the Emissary and set up the time for their patrol, but first she needed a nap. It had been an extraordinary day.
