  1. Lila looked confused. "No." She made a face. "I mean I get what you're saying about the credit cards, though I think we should try. Who knows, they might work. But..." She dropped her voice to a whisper. "Who would we contact?"
  2. "I KNOW!" Agnes' eyes lit up and she became hyper-animated. "I got up really early one morning. I skipped my entire morning routine so I could be out before sunrise. I flew down to the bay, and then just as the sun started to rise--even before it rose--just when I could see a tiny sliver red on the horizon, I flew straight up as fast as I could. I went way up above the clouds over downtown, but I could still see the ocean clearly. I flew up, and kept flying up, until ice started to form on my lips. I felt so light up there. I don't think I was in outer space, but I felt lighter, you know, like gravity wasn't even bothering! And then when the sun rose, because I was so high up, in just minutes it went from red to orange to yellow, to brilliant white. The atmosphere was so thin, it was like I was looking right at the sun. It was so beautiful and so pure. And then I just fell back like I was in my bed and fell and fell and fell, and just before I hit the clouds I started flying again. When I finally broke through the clouds, the city was all sparkly from the sun. It was so beautiful." Agnes stopped. She realized that she have been going on and on and talking louder and louder. "Anyway...I like flying," she said more quietly. She put the ice pack back on her face to cover her blushing cheeks from the Emissary.

I'm sensing that your death is very, very near. It really was nice knowing you.

  8. Having been trapped in a distant land, Lucy and Agnes were freed from the violent spell, and they quickly realized that they were no longer in Freedom City. They were in a range of high mountains covered with snow and ice. They were also immediately attacked by demons, presumably more creatures like the shadow from the church. Agnes summoned her sword and quickly dispatched the demons. Lucy was injured in the attack and nearly died from the cold, but Agnes (now Celestia) healed her wounds and used her sword's healing energies to protect Lucy from the harsh environment. Eventually Celestia was able to use her angelic energies to transport them home. Lucy immediately ran off, putting as much distance between herself and the "church girl" as she could. Was there some larger purpose in causing the two girls to fight and then sending them away? Will the shadow or its master return to inflict more harm on either girl? Who knows. But Agnes is working as hard as she can to master her powers. Next time she'll be ready.

  11. Lila gasped. "You're doing it again. Stop it." She put her hands over her ears. It was a completely absurd gesture. It's not like her thoughts were leaking out of her ears. And then it occurred to Lila all the things that had been going through her mind in the last few minutes. She turned beat red...and started to vanish again. "No. No. No. No. NO!" she repeated with her eyes scrunched shut. Only her legs had become invisible, and slowly they returned to view. "Let's go to the lab," she barked. "I've got a credit card. I don't care how much it costs!"

  14. Agnes put down her ice pack and took the numbers. "I'll call you tomorrow," she said. "Afternoon sounds great." Agnes loved flying at night the most, but she rarely got the chance. Too many other duties to perform. Agnes practically beamed. "Flying is sooooooo great. I just...I just love it."

  17. "I'll have to ask Sister Agatha if it's okay. I usually do schoolwork until lunch, so maybe a half-day? I'll have to call you. Do you have a phone number...or something? Agnes smiled knowingly. It sounded like her mornings of being tutored by nuns. "Sounds awful." Agnes didn't really think that school was awful, but the more she stretched her wings (literally and figuratively), the harder she found it to sit still and get her work done.

  20. In early December, St. Sebastian's church held a special afternoon service to honor those in the community who helped them fund their various charities. Industrialist and financial mogul Hieronymus King was one of the honorees, and he brought with him his teenage daughter, Lucy. During the service, Lucy slipped away and went down into the church's catacomb-like basement to look around and kill time. Agnes was down there cleaning, and the two girls began to talk. Little did the two girls know that Lucy was being stalked by a shadow-like creature of unknown origin. The creature exercised its malignant influence on the two girls, sending both of them into inexplicable fits of rage. The two fought mindlessly until the shadow's master arrived and transported both of the girls to a distant, frozen land. The identities and purposes of the shadow and its master remain a mystery.

  23. Her dad made an awful face and pushed her away. "Whatever." He staggered back to the door, holding his head. "Just keep it down." He slammed the door behind him. He intended to say it quietly, but Darla could still here him through the door. "Freak..."
