A Fair Day (IC)

Recommended Posts

The property of Parkhurst was rather uninteresting to look at nowadays and most people would never give it a second glance. Mostly because they weren't supposed too. Magical security had a far quirkier approach to protection than regular security. Not only could it promote a sense of dread or foreboding, but also just a great sense of disinterest which would make anyone unaware of the nature of the magic dismiss it almost immediately. It was one of the first spells cast as it was deemed both easy and low risk in both it's nature and likeliness of detection. It was for this reason, that for her visitors sake, Etain sat outside the property and out of the spells range on a chair with a book on her lap with her legs crossed under her skirt, and her umbrella perched open on her shoulders less for the blocking of the sun, and more for the slight possibility of rain. Turning a page she reached for her phone and checked the time, it was very nearly twenty minutes past the time she had stated for them to meet, though she didn't doubt her companion, she had to wonder if she might of gotten lost.

PixieGrim landed a few blocks away from the address Etain had provided in the shadow of a carriage house and resumed her normal size, wearing fairly non-descript FC sweats, her 'default setting' these days. She conjured up a well-used mountain bike and hopped onto it, pedaling over the damp streets of Lantern Hill.

Several minutes later, she skidded to a stop in fron tof an old but not terribly interesting looking house, surrounded by a high fence. On a nearby lawnchair sat a young woman wearing mutton chop sleeves and a hoop skirt, clearly the girl who'd invited her.

"Hi Etain," Lynn called out as she hefted her bike over her shoulder and walked in her host's direction, her bike helmet tucked under her other arm. "What's up?"

Closing her book she smiled up to Lynn as she closed her umbrella.

"I am not sure, but I would like to show you something."

Standing up she stretched her legs for a second before looking at Lynn,

""

Smiling she moved towards the gate while reaching into her purse. Pulling out a pair of brass framed glasses she set them on her nose and opened the gate,

Lynn looked a bit uncertain before responding in perfect Latin.

" She cast a glance around to make sure no one else was in earshot. ""

Still toting her bike, she entered the gate and started heading towards the front door of the mansion, which she assumed was their destination.

Tapping on the side of her glasses, she smiled,

Reaching into her sleeve she produced a key which she used to unlock the door. Though it didn't exactly click as it gave a slight glow before swinging inward without being pushed. Etain heard a light thump as it hit the interior wall,

Moving past into a grand but old world set hall she smiled as she looked over at Lynn,

Lynn dropped her bike and helmet, which politely disappeared into vapour before they hit the ground, and took in all the ornate splendor through wide eyes. She stood gaping in the lobby, slowly turning about, not wanting to miss a single detail.

"" Then she stopped and chewed on her thumb, a playful smile on her lips. "

Etain smiled as she turned towards Lynn,

""

Walking past her she closed the door more gentle and was relieved to find the sudden opening hadn't left a dent in the wall, there had been some accidents involving spells and the spirits were less than please with even minor property damage. When she noticed the second question she looked at her thoughtfully,

""

She didn't even need to but bring it up for a silver hand mirror to appear with a decorative finish, holding it up to Lynn's face,

""

The face in the mirror was human in shape, except that it was tinted a deep violet, the ears of the face were pointed, and the eyes had no pupil or iris for that manner, and was just colored lilac instead of violet. The clothes and hair looked the same except there were the exact same color of the skin, and had an aura that left a trace in the air for a few moments of the same violet every time it moved.

"Gah!" At first Lynn shied away from this reflection of her 'true' magical self, but after a few seconds she calmed down a bit and was able to appraise it more objectively. "" She smiled, frowned, wiggled her upswept eyebrows and pointed ears, and watched as her purple reflection followed suit. ""

Having more or less come to terms with her fae appearance, the shapeshifter turned her focus back to the remarkable house, randomly wandering about the lobby.

She waited for a few seconds while Lynn examined herself. It wasn't that surprising she was surprised, when you look at something in the mirror for a long time you get used to that reflection, but when shown something different that supposed to be you, it would probably be a shock. As she settled down and moved back towards the subject of the house Etain gave her a smile,

""

The last bit about dues got Etain to think,

Lynn's eyes went a bit wide and her mouth hung open as Etain spouted forth a stream of potent magibabble.

"Wow, I have...no idea what you just said. I guess there's more spellcasters in town than I thought." Then she cocked an eyebrow. "Wait, these 'nihils', did they stand for nothing? And throw marmosets in people's bathtubs?" Remembering just exactly who she was talking to, the shapeshifter self-conciously waved her hand. "Uh, y'know what, forget it; it's a dumb pop cultural reference you probably won't get."

Conjuring up a plush high-backed chair for herself, she had a seat.

"So do you guys actually do spells and stuff together? Like sharing pentagrams and whatnot?"

When Etain talked, Grim experienced a similar form of confusion to when she hung out with Dok at his wacky tesserect house, but with fewer little chemical symbols dancing in the corner of her eyes.

I don't think I'll ever really get hardcore 'shop talk'.

""

The shifter got up, politely dismissing her chair as she followed the changeling. <"Uh, y'know what, let's start nice and simple; let's see the recreation room.>"

Etain smiled and walked back down the steps.

""

Smiling she walked past the stairs to a room that had previously been a waiting area when the house was a hotel, in there was a few old fashioned but plush chairs and a couch in dark blue, a pool table, some croquet equipment, and a chess table with built in drawers for the pieces. The walls were covered dark colored printed wallpaper as well as a few bookshelves, a mounted but empty entertainment center and various racks for coats, keys, and pool cues. The floors were hardwood but there were a few rugs that matched the colors of the room and near the end was a stone fireplace with a new shiny brass cover and matching pokers. When Etain entered she glanced around to find that none of the ghosts were hanging around, though she spied a pair of missing croquet mallets so maybe Milly and Mildred were out playing a game.

She moved through the door and over to the kitchen, which was still a kitchen, though not many of the residents were much in the ways of cooking it was very clean and set with older furniture as it had yet to be expanded upon.

""

Moving past she went to a door and opened it to find the pantry, shrugging she closed it and opened the next door which led down to the basement. As soon as she opened the door the passage lit up in a faint yellow light, though it had sort of a flash,

""

Moving down the steps they went to what was in a past life a wine cellar, and in another life, something far more sinister, however now, the wooden walls were installed with new shelves, as well as the old wine racks were lined with ingredients of a large range that didn't need to be in jars for perservation sake. There were two long tables on each side of the room, one covered in papers and sketches as well as lists, the others had several pots, burners, electrical plates a few flasks, and a lamp. Not that the lamp was nessicary, the room was a glow from several lights that simple floated among the ceiling.

The whole wizardly vibe was getting to be a bit overwhelming for Lynn; the many bizarre smells wafting off the spell components, and the odd little details crammed into each and every corner. At last she had to close her eyes, take a deep breath and let it out slowly,

Etain thought about the last statement,

"

It was a rather interesting question. She had lived and aged several months in this world, but how much time was it there. It was impossible to say, though the time usually went in cycles from shorter to longer, so it was possible that her leaving might of been caught in an inbetween that more closely matched time spent otherwise.

""

Smiling she turned to Lynn,

Etain giggled at the woman's sudden enthusiam,

""

She started up the stairs, leading the fae back into the kitchen through the recreations room, and another less furnished room to the area of the pool. It was a large open room, the room was very near the back, and was lit rather cloudily by the skylight that which showed the greying skies. The tiling was a smooth light brown stones and cement. The pool itself was about fourteen by thirty too feet long oval, with a few newly painted markers that indicated when it from four, to six, to eight, and finally ten feet as the maxed deph. It had a tiled bottom that was decorated in a mosaic that resembled the houses original namesake of a white orchid all under a clear and recently cleaned glass cover.

""

She moved away for a few seconds before disappearing into a smaller room and quickly the previously unseen lights flickered on in both the pool and room around it giving the former a light blue glow under the water, and the later a cheerfull yellow against the pale colored walls. Finally the glass that covered the pool retracted itself into the sides of the pool before Etain appeared again,

Lynn nodded slowly. "" The thought clearly made her a little uncomfortable, just because she really didn't know Etain all that well. ""

"We will need to give it a few minutes to warm up.>"

"" She attempted to study the other girl's body to conjure up a swimsuit, but found it a bit hard to judge her shape under all the fabric. ""

Unbuttoning the the vest than the blouse part of the the outfit and put them on her arm to reveal a very pale neckline and shoulders around a sleeveless white camisole. Doing the same with the skirt which had white pantalones cut at the knee revealed pale legs anything further down over a pair of previously hidden brown boot. The undergarments were only one layer so it showed more properly the petite and generally hidden form of a healthy young lady with good leg muscles if not rather skinny arms.

Lynn appraised the young woman with frank interest, but more like a potter assessing his clay. "" And a hanger with a dark blue and white swimsuit from another era appeared. ",<Or we can take a daring leap into the Twentieth Century and just go nuts.>" In her other hand appeared a very 90s one-piece with a sort of tie-dye look.

"" Standing gracefully on one foot, she extended the other leg and conjured up a classic English beach hut with her toe. ""

Etain gave a light chuckle at the womans antics before taking the colorful one piece and disappearing into the hut. It wasn't very long before she had her underwear on the hanger walking out showing the most skin in a semi-public setting possible since she got here. It was almost exceptionally clear that she needed to get more sun, showing the two full pale legs, as well as the skinny arms which had a light tanline at the wrist, and neck that had a lighter tan line at what would be a t-shirt neckline for most people. She also pulled out her hair tie, so her curly dark brown hair set around her face adding a starker contrast to the pale skin.

""

Walking over to the pools edge she dipped her toes in,
