Quentin is very aware from his profession about giant impact hypothesis - the theory that the moon was created 4 billion years ago when a planetary body (named "Theia" in most astronomical circles) collided with the earth, ejecting dust and other debris that eventually coalesced into the moon. There are some irregularities in the theory - such as if a planetary body had collided with the earth, where was the ocean of magma that likely would've resulted from such a grand puncturing of the crust - but judging by what these guys are saying, they might be talking about Theia when they discuss the Exo-Threat's original prison.
