Barnum
When Pulse stepped out of the alley, all eyes turned to him. There was an uneasy moment of silence when the coffeehouse crowed was sizing him up, trying to determine if he was a hero or a villain. It only took them a few seconds to decide he was a good guy. A few people waved. A few people clapped. Most just went back to their coffee and conversation. This was Freedom City after all. Distracted by the sight of a hero, most of the crowed didn't notice that the boys under the tree were on the move again, heading toward them. Or maybe the gang wasn't heading toward the coffee shop at all. Maybe their destination was somewhere else entirely. A few seconds after Pulse exited the alley, a young man dressed in the typical garb of a "street warrior" entered that same alley from the other end. He was nearly running, so it only took him a few seconds to pass through the alley and come out right behind Pulse. As soon as he came out under the street lights, the five young men who had been loitering in the park began running directly at him. The two who were in the lead pulled out pistols and began shooting. The boy from the alley took cover behind some of the theater-goers, drew out his own gun, and returned fire. The gangers managed to miss each other completely but several stray bullets hit the line of people waiting for coffee. Half of them hit the ground, trying to get below the line of fire. The other half began running in all directions. The scene was complete chaos. Link to comment

Heritage
When the guy in the blue and yellow suit stepped out of the alley, sporting a funky pair of gloves, Grim had to smile; this was why she moved, sorry, ran away to Freedom City, the chance to live somewhere where stuff like this was common, far from the stifling trailer park world of Tilton Terrace. Wait, could this be Briefcase Guy? It was possible, but she really hadn't paid close attention to his face or build, so distracted was she by his pretty green money in her cup. In the long run, it probably didn't matter, but it would be kind of cool if she got to watch him beat up those punks for no good reason. In an instant, she willed her form to change, her street kid clothes swirling like pale gray mist about her, leaving in their wake Grimalkin, the extremely pissed-off street avenger; when she spoke, her voice bore an edge of steel. "Hey! Kill each other in your own sandbox!" Her first thought was of the bystanders, the same people she was making fun of but seconds ago; like a silent shadow she is suddenly among them, quickly checking for the injured with concerned but untrained eyes. "Who's hurt? Everyone stay the hell down!" Link to comment

Barnum
The gang members were too occupied with trying to kill each other and not get killed in the process that they didn't notice the two heroes suddenly appearing in the middle of the chaos. They kept on shooting, and another bystander, a middle-aged man in a suit, went down with a bullet in the arm. Most of the bystanders who weren't running away didn't need Grim to tell them to duck, but her quick response probably saved a few. There were at least four wounded that she could see: the man in the suit; two young women, one with a bullet in the leg and the other who looked to be shot in the chest; and an elderly gentlemen with a flesh wound in his neck who appeared to be out cold. Pulse didn't take the time to see who Grim was or what he was doing. He turned his Vibro Gauntlets on the gang members. The air between him and his target quickly accelerated to the speed of sound under the effect of the powerful vibrations. The nearest ganger was knocked off his feet and flew back about 20' until he hit the stone gazebo with a "THUD." He fell to the ground, not moving. Link to comment

Heritage
So many injured and she feels completely useless; Grim lets more than a little of her own frustration out on the bystanders when she snarls a hurried order. "If any of you are doctors or nurses, help them now!" She then moves like lightening towards the nearest of the under tree thugs with a firearm, attempting to use her claws to rip it out of his hand, unconcerned if any fingers happen to come with it. Barnum
The young man who exited the alley kept on making his way toward the street and shooting at the other gangers, but the gangers were too occupied by the attacking heroes to pay him any attention. By this time, all of the gang members had guns in their hands. One of them took a shot at Pulse. The bullet struck him but bounced harmlessly off his super suit. Pulse returned the favor and sent the young man soaring through the air. He hit the ground hard but was already unconscious. Grim used the opportunity to strike. She made a mad dash for the nearest ganger, but in her haste she missed him entirely. The young man scrambled back away from the angry (and dangerous) super hero. He and his two remaining buddies all trained their guns on her, but she was way too fast for them. The bullets whizzed harmlessly past her. Link to comment

Heritage
Grim was getting angry, which tended to make her stupid. This is not how we fight; we fight dirty. She is about to move in for the attack, when she sees the single shooter still making his way past the opera house; she impatiently calls out to the unknown super in the blue and yellow suit, who is doing good work but not nearly as fast as she would like it. "Dude, take him out already!" And with that, Grim pulls the shadows in around herself and is gone, little more than a smudge in the air if she moves too fast; with malicious satisfaction, she sidles up to the punk closest to the gazebo and lets him have it. Barnum
Pulse listened to Grim and hastily changed his target. He leaped through the air onto the sidewalk directly behind the fleeing kid and unleashed a blast of vibration induced shock waves. The kid was pretty fast on his feat. He dove into the grass, and the shock wave missed him entirely, though it did tear the facade off the front of the opera house and shattered one of the windows. The young man kept running and disappeared around the corner. Back in the park the battle raged on. Grim slashed at the closest ganger, and he never saw it coming. The claws slashed across his back. The young man hollered, and dove away from the pain into the grass. It was a direct hit. Grim, however, underestimated just how thick his leather coat was. Her claws shredded his clothes and drew blood, but it was only a flesh wound. The three gangers turned their guns on the empty air where they thought the hero-girl was standing. The bullets whizzed harmlessly past her. Link to comment

Heritage
Apparently this was not her night; these punks had seriously injured several innocent people who's only crimes was liking pretentious live entertainment and overpriced coffee, and she had barely managed to lay a finger on them. Grim looked skywards and offered this silent prayer. God, if I am meant to deal with these punks which you in your eternal yet inscrutable wisdom created and placed on this Earth, let my next blow strike true, so that I can make it back to my squat for an early dinner of lukewarm Chunky soup and illegally purchased wine coolers. .... It took her a lot longer than it should have, but soon she was panting as she sat on the steps of the gazebo, the bruised and bloodied forms of the punks resting about on the grass where they fell, clothes in tatters but thankfully still breathing. "Thank you, God, for listening...I knew you...hadn't given up on me. Just another one of your...damned tests. Whew! I hope you don't mind the disappearing act; I know it seems like cheating, but on a night like this, it's all I've got." Grim stood up slowly, dusting off the fine coating of snow she'd accumulated during her tussle as she looked around; now where did old Blue and Yellow go? Link to comment

Barnum
Pulse came flying back around the corner carrying the runaway gunman. The kid was unarmed and unconscious. He dropped him on the ground with the others. Giving Grim a little salute . . . "Nice work. I'll go get the police." With that he took off again into the night sky. The civilians began getting up and rendering aid to the wounded. At least one of the men in the crowd was a nurse, and from the sound of the fast-approaching sirens, someone had already called 911.
