  1. Carson raised an eyebrow at the question. "Hm. Officially, I would have to discourage that behavior. Teacher's reputation and all." He leaned a bit closer, with a smirk on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. "Unofficially, I'd say so long as you don't feel like you'll suffer for missing that one class, it's fine by me. It's a fairly open seminar. Maybe you and Amy can sit together? That will give you at least one person you know in the audience, I suppose. And I promise, no, ah, odd imaginings during my speech." Here he had the grace to look a touch embarrassed. He then glanced at his watch. "Hm. I do need to be there before things start. I'd better head out. Give yourself a couple more minutes, then be in Room 5 in the Liberal Arts building. I'm sure you and Amy can get some decent seats. I'm speaking fourth, unless they made an 11th hour change on me." With that, Carson stood, draining the last of his coffee, and depositing the cup in the appropriate receptacle. He gave Vivian one last "charmer" smile, giving her a quick shake of the hand before starting to move away. "Was a pleasure meeting you, Vivian. See you after the lecture!" And with that, Carson was out the door. ...But he'd apparently forgotten his backpack.
  2. Carson nods, relaxing a bit. "Good to hear. It's the little things like friends and favorite coffee shops that make college so enjoyable, at least in my experience. And you're right. It helps that I'm not first. I just don't want to squeak in at the last minute. Not how my folks raised me, you know." Her he tossed her a friendly wink. 'Well, she's certainly a nice girl. Same with that Amy. Even with that odd bit earlier...I suppose I'll just chalk it up to not understanding women...' Carson took another long sip of coffee. As late as he'd been up last night, it was helping a bit.
  3. On the outside, Carson raised an eyebrow at the exchanged looks. On the inside, he simultaneously felt like a side of meat being bargained over, and an instinct to run away. He suppressed both, writing it off as paranoia or some such. It was just a friendly cup of coffee and some conversation, after all! He nodded as Amy talked. "Sounds like fun. I think in a city like this, there might be more opportunities than you think." Carson turned to look at the seat Vivian indicated, thus missing the looks exchanged. "Okay. I suppose we have a couple more minutes. Amy, it was a pleasure meeting you. Maybe we can chat a bit more after the lecture and such is done?" He offers his hand for a quick shake before walking over with Vivian. "I take it you two have known each other for a bit now?" He takes a sip of coffee, looking around at all the art and such. "How long has this place been open and decorated like this?"
  4. Well. As stated earlier, I don't feel comfortable GMing yet. Though I definitely want to help the GM out as far as idea-generation goes. Hence the "rain check". As stated, Sand has (at least nominally) volunteered to run the initial group. Everybody else, keep this thread in mind. Any more people can speak up as well. If nothing else, maybe this will help us keep a PL10 thread running most of the time for various folks. ;)
  5. Well. That would make us 5 and 5 (counting Gabriel both times). Again, assuming the GM of each group is up for it, I'm okay with it.
  6. Carson struggled not to laugh as the two young women discussed him. Only his incredible acting skills let him hold the laughter in. "Ahem. Thanks again for the drink, Amy. As for the accent..." Suddenly, his voice changes to an English accent. "That may have been my natural accent, but it is by no means my only accent." And now he's doing General American. "As an actor, one has to learn to have a flexible voice." And then, as if he was releasing a muscle they hadn't seen Carson tense, he relaxed very slightly, and was back to his Irish accent. "But anyways. Vivian's working on a Masters in history. What are you studying, Amy?" Carson glances at his watch, noting he has about 7 minutes left.
  7. Carson cranked the smile and charm up another notch as he stepped up to order. His Irish accent is quite noticeable, but nowhere near thick enough to impede understanding. "Aye, let's see. I'll take the Death by Chocolate Challenge. I think I'm up for it." The indicated concoction apparently contains more chocolate than coffee, mixing 3 different kinds of chocolate with milk and a rich coffee blend. "Could always use a bit more pep in my step. As for the theater, I tend to agree, to a point. I think we still see some good movies, but there's a definite drop in quality. And it's not because of actors; many bad movies have great actors. It's more the producers and writers." Once his drink is completed, he takes it with a smile after handing over the appropriate payment. "Of course, all my experience is on the stage, and stage performances still maintain higher standards. I'll always treasure the time I saw Sir Patrick Stewart performing The Tempest. Now there's a man all of us actors can aspire to be like." A slightly wistful look passes through his eyes, before he re-focuses on the girls. "Amy, I'm glad you'll be able to make the lecture. It won't be terribly exciting; it's as much about teaching theater as it is being in it. But still. It'll never hurt to have another attentive audience member. Just motivates me to keep things interesting."
  8. How's this sound, folks. Since we have too many for 1 thread, we'll split things up. Barring a 2nd person feeling generous, I'll give some of you a "rain check". I really want to hit the ground jogging, at the least, with Gabriel. Sandman_XI had volunteered to take the GM reigns for this one, so if he's still up for it, here's what I propose. The 1st group, the one that will run under Sand, will consist of myself (Gabriel), Agent A (The Jay), Ozoe (Powerhouse), Supercape (Supercape), and Sandman XI (Muse). The 2nd group, which will be the "rain check" group (unless we find another lovely volunteer) will be myself (Gabriel), Fox (Gaian Knight), Moira (Seraph), and Doleth (Scion). Sand has an idea for the first thread/group, but I think the 2nd group could run with Doleth's idea (2nd-string supervillains trying to team up), if whoever ends up being GM is okay with the idea. Would that be workable for everyone?
  9. The coffee shop seemed to be a locally own business, one that hadn't been driven out of business by a chain. The fact that it was on the edge of such a large and successful college, combined with decent prices and inventive drinks, all held in a nice homey atmosphere, helped as well. Well, maybe "homey" wasn't the right word. "Eccentric" was a better fit. Carson's eyebrows nearly disappeared into his hairline as he took in the interior of the shop. While the outside face had been a plain brown brick, with a couple of heavily tinted windows, the Wolfenbauch Coffee Store was anything but plain on the inside. The owners were apparently fans of Victorian styling, with a touch of the "steampunk" genre thrown in. Paintings of Victorian England were scattered along the walls. Interspersed with the paintings was a small collection of sculpture, made of things like gears, brass, wood, and pewter. The coffee machines behind the counter were clearly modern devices given fanciful shells, making them appear to be much earlier models. A couple dozen chairs and tables were scattered around, and the lighting level (provided by electric "gas lamps" scattered about) was toned down just enough to be "homey". The serving staff apparently didn't have to wear full costumes, as they were dressed in jeans, tshirts, and the like. The only unique piece of "uniform" on all the staff was a pair of fancy-looking goggles they wore on their heads. Well, one gentleman on the staff had a Nice Hat. At the moment, there was only one other person in line. A baker's dozen students, both undergrad and graduate, were scattered across the shop. "Wow. I've never seen a shop like this before. I can see why it might be popular. Oh, good, the line's short. Means we won't worry about runing late." He started to move towards the line, but stopped with a smile and a dramatic gesture for Vivian to go in front of him. "Ladies first."
  10. Gaming session tonight. Gone for rest of the afternoon until late tonight.
  11. Gabriel seems to consider it, then shakes his head. "Perhaps at a later date. I already find my time rather stretched most days, between my official job, some of my own volunteer work, and my hero work. If I tried to take on more, it would likely be somewhat unhealthy." He smirks. "Even the saintliest human needs rest and time off."
  12. Gabriel accepted the cake, eating quietly for a couple of minutes. "I agree about people skills, for sure. Probably why I was gifted the way I was. Um. Well, I can understand why the League wouldn't just take any so-called hero off the street, as much as I appreciate you vouching for me. I suppose having the contacts is never a bad thing." A distracted frown crossed his face at Heyzel's next question. "No, I haven't. In a more mundane sense, I've met and worked with people who don't share my faith, and are sometimes rather opposed to it. I try not to let it get to me, and focus on being a witness in deeds, not words. That, and generally avoiding the subject helps, too. I suppose I'd just have to apply the same principles in hero work. "There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio" and all that." He set the cake down and sipped more coffee, nodding at Stesha's words. "Perhaps it is. I think that's what it is for me, at any rate. Though there's a bit of the question of the "chicken and the egg", as it were."
  13. KnightDisciple

    I am...

Gizmo, at some point I'd like Gabriel added to the guide. Below is my version of his picture. Feel free to touch up and tweak things as you see fit, within the bounds of his description.
  14. Gabriel smiles and nods at the cup once it's passed to him. "As far as force...One blessing of my...hm. Let's call it my greatly amplified people skills. One advantage of that is I've defused a lot of bad situations with just words. My costume's not very scary, so that helps a lot." A frown flickers across his face, before his smile resumes, albeit subdued. "Lot of them are kids. Teens, I suppose, but even as young as I am, they're kids. Some of them are just making bad choices. Some don't feel like they have any choice. I try to help them see the light one way or another. I think I've managed to do that with at least a few." He goes silent for a moment as he sips the coffee and Irish cream. "Mm. Quite good, thank you again. As for the hero work, it's part time. I do hold another job, where I feel I get to help a lot of lives as well. Helping shape futures and all."
  15. "If you're asking if we share powers, not really. I'm a sound controller. Most of my, ah, "tricks" are geared at disabling opponents. Confusing them, making them sick, that sort of thing. I mean, I can hit them in the face with compressed sound waves, but there's a touch more risk, you know? I've also managed to fly with it." Gabriel shuffles awkwardly in his seat, giving an embarrassed cough. "And...it seems to make dealing with people easier, especially if I try." He then swiftly moves on. "So you tend to focus on helping out your teammates, and doing things around the city? Is that mostly because of how your powers work, or just that, ah, you don't like force?" He seems genuinely curious.
  16. Gabriel smiled at Heyzel's joke. "With hot coffee, if you please." He settles a bit further into his chair. "On the whole identity thing...It's just that I'm not worried so much for myself, as I am other people in my life. So I try to practice tight information control. As for Freedom City...I like it, overall. I mean, with this many heroes, it's never boring. And it's a good city. Not perfect, mind you. Heaven knows I've seen enough of that these last few months. I'm still trying to make what feels like some decent headway in Southside. Of course, I suppose all the crimes I've managed to stop with simple negotiation helps the "score", as it were." He looked around the apartment, noticing all the plants, and contemplated Stesha's hero name. "Are your powers plant related?"
  17. Gabriel smiles, though in his mind he makes a mark on the "pretty superheroine who's taken" column. The charm is turned down slightly. But the smile remains bright. "Right then, Stesha. Um...Can we stick with "Gabriel" for me right now? I'm a bit nervous about sharing my identity still. Heyzel got a bit of an accidental pass, but it's not something I'm keen to pass on. Um. I don't suppose you have any Baileys?" There's a hopeful edge to his voice as he seats himself.
  18. Gabriel offers his hand in return, giving her a winning smile of his own. "Ma'am. It's a pleasure." He then enters the apartment as requested. Once inside, he takes a look around, trying to get a feel for the place.
  19. Carson takes in his surroundings, content to follow Heyzel to their destination. "I have no problem with that. I use a code name for a reason; I figure most others in our line of work have them for a reason as well. Fleur de Josie...Name sounds a bit familiar by itself. I recognize the name "Freedom League", though I don't have the roster memorized."
  20. It'd be up to Sandman, at this point. That'd be 7 characters...Assuming all the others who posted are still interested, of course.
  21. Carson laughs at the "nickname" Heyzel gave him as he pulls his mask and hood back over his face. When he next speaks, he seems more confident, and his accent has slipped away; he now speaks with a very neutral accent, "American Broadcaster" as some call it. "Thomas indeed. Well then, Heyzel. Let us go meet your friend." With that, he held his hand out, ready to grasp the offered hand of the Angel in front of him.
  22. There's no real pressure to join or make a group. Even just meeting more heroes will be good for Gabriel. Networking, and so on. :D
  23. I think all these folks sound fine. Half the reason I want to do this is to experience actual action and combat via this board. I think we could even take 1 more, barring the GM (anyone not Supercape feel up to it?) saying 5 as a limit. I certainly don't mind having 6 (counting Gabriel). Edit: Still need a GM to volunteer, though. ;)
  24. Carson raised his head from his hands. He took a moment to glance around the rooftop, and any surrounding rooftops. Then he reached up and pulled his mask back away from his face. He now sat before the angel, his true face revealed, sincerity lacing the words that follow. "I don't know. I want to be worthy. I try to be. But am I actually worthy? I don't know. I'm just a man, Heyzel. A fallen, flawed man who tries not to mess up, but often still does. So perhaps you're the better judge. After all, you're the actual angel. I'm just borrowing some power and a name." If anything, his gaze sharpened. "What do you think Heyzel, Angel of Freedom? Am I worthy of this favor bestowed upon me by Gavriel?"
  25. So, I'm looking/hoping to work with a group of people in a thread at this point (having already started a couple of one-on-one threads). Specifically, this will be for Gabriel, my PL10 hero. I don't feel equipped to GM the thread at this time, but I am willing to brainstorm with the GM for some ideas. I don't have any specific ideas right now, though. Preferably, this would be other PL10 heroes. I'm pretty open on "type" or whatnot. The big thing is that we have a group that could mesh well. I'd like to try getting Gabriel into some sort of "hero group". I'd be fine with him ending up in an existing group, him being part of a new group that starts up as a result of this thread, or even just getting a more informal "network" established. Whatever comes about. So, if people could speak up with ideas and interest, that would be awesome! Let's do some good deeds, folks. ;)
