    Well, that was informative. John idly thought to earlier in the day as he looked around his new room. It was spartan affair having only a desk, bed, and dresser. After arriving at Claremont, he had proceeded d to be given paperwork and documents pertaining to the Claremonts' Rules and regulations here by an Administration secretary that he had to read and fill out before being taken to Duncan Summers office.

    There, Duncan was explained all the details and criteria for his stay here. It had taken the better part of of two hours, and for the most past John had all of his questions answered. After that he had an enjoyable lunch with Mr. Summers in the cafeteria, and then was taken by a teacher named Mr. Archer and given a tour of the facilities. That had ended with them arriving at the dormitory room 222, which he was told was his room. Since he was technically here early, he wouldn't have an roommate until fall or so.

    After thinking about it for a few minutes, John proceeded to re-arrange his room which didn't take all that long due to the sparse accommodations. Unpacking the rucksack took even less time, with a few changes of clothes and some sundries. His eyebrow quirked in amusement at the finding of a framed picture of his 'family' which while entirely fabricated he decided to place it on the desk. At the bottom was his armor, which he placed in the last drawer of the dresser.

    After all that the clock only read 3:09 PM, and John really had no idea what to do now. He supposed he should go out and meet some of the other students. He had seen them walking around or in the various rooms as he was shown around earlier today, with some of them giving him curious looks or just idly going about their day off. That gave him an idea however, and he changed into a set of light clothing suitable for exercise.

    A jog around the school campus would be nice. I can reconnoiter the premises, exercise, and meet some of the other students, John mused as he left his room and proceeded outside.

  2. John looked out the windows at some older houses. “Am I to report in regularly or you just going to check in once in a while?â€

    “Mr. Summers will have a meeting with you every month to see how you are doing. Depending on how it goes, we'll see what happens after a few months. Also, we'd like for you to talk to Dr. Victor Archeville at some point and have a full battery of tests done, just to see what you can do potentially and how exactly your powers work. We know a little, but in case..."

    John finished her train of thought. “In case that I go rogue so that I can be neutralized effectively.â€

    She pursed her lips and glanced over at him “Not all of us have agreed that this is the best course of action.â€

    John met her gaze evenly. “Believe me Ma'am, I understand. I am an unknown quantity even to myself. Am I a programmed sleeper agent, or something potentially more insidious? All I can say is that I’m appreciative of the chance to prove myself."

    The car turned off into a small street, the stately buildings of Claremont Academy coming into view beyond the trees lining the road. Ms. Summer's continued. “That's a large part of why the we have taken a wait and see stance on this issue.†They pulled into a parking spot closest to the nearby building. “Well, we're here†and she cut the engine. The trunk popped open, and she gestured to john to get out of the car.

    Complying, he gathered up the rucksack and slung it over his shoulder. She rolled down her window and pointed to the building. “Go in there. Take the first door on the left. They're expecting you.â€

    “Understood. Thank you for the transportation.†He started to walk to the building, and stopped as she called out to him.

    “Oh, and John?†She gave him a small smile. “Good luck.â€

    He gave her one back. “Thank you Ma'am. I'm probably going to need it.â€

  3. “Your ID officially is that you're a German foreign exchange student named Johann K. Smith from Berchtesgaden, Germany. You will officially be attending Claremont starting in the Fall. You're here earlier than expected since you were home schooled, so we're letting you stay on campus even though you won't have classes any time soon.†She handed him a manilla envelope containing a passport, wallet, and a set of keys with the number 222 engraved on them.

    “On paper, your father Wilhelm is paying for you classes. He's a freelance professional security consultant for various private military corporations, which would explain your above average skills in certain areas. You'll get a stipend of money each month for living expenses. Any questions so far?†She glanced at him before looking back at the road.

    “Why put so much truth into it?†He asked.

    “The obvious lie is easier to believe, and telling the truth is better for you in the long run. Besides, this is what you'll be telling all the other students. We'd like to keep your true origins secret for both your safety and everyone else at the school.â€

    John nodded. “I understand, but wouldn't I have more background information than this? About 17 years worth?â€

    “What can you tell me about your mother?â€

    Confusion flashed across his face. “What are you talking about? I'm a...â€an image of a blonde woman holding a rifle popped into his mind's eye â€wait...her name was Vladilena Grachev, and she was a Russian mercenary who met my father though work. They had me but she was killed protecting my father and myself in the Bosnian conflict in 1995. I was three at the time...†He paused mid-sentence and held his hand up to his temple in shock. “What? How is this possible?â€

    “Implanted memories.†she replied. “Over the last month, while you were asleep. Just be sure to think a question through about yourself before answering. The memories should be pretty thorough, but anybody that has any sort of experience in them will see right away what they are. So try and not let anybody get into your head."

    John nodded blankly, but something about it felt somehow wrong to him. Quashing that thought, he understood that this way was probably for the best. “I assume there's a hard copy of my fake history somewhere?

    She nodded. “Yes, you have a copy to give to Duncan Summers that's in the bag you were carrying earlier. There are also clothes and other personal items in there. Anything else that you think that you'll need you can get later. â€

  4. It took him ten minutes with the sparse crowds, but he finally got to the baggage claim. Looking around he saw a few people holding signs, and was scanning them for the women in question when...

    “John Smith I presume?†a female spoke from behind him.

    John instinctively jumped forwards and whirled around towards the voice, about to call a throwing knife into his hand when he saw the bemused woman was holding a sign with his name on it. She's really good. I didn't even sense her presence.

    He straightened back up and took a deep breath to force his body to relax. “That's me, Ma'am.â€

    “I'm Callie. I'm here to take you to Claremont.â€

    John thought she seemed horribly familiar even though he couldn't put his finger on how. “Yes Ma'am, lead the way.â€

    Her car was parked a decent distance outside and she opened the trunk for him to put the rucksack in. “Get in.†She said, gesturing to the passenger side.

    Once out of the parking lot, she was all business.

    --BZZT!--

    John looked around confused. What? Where am I? A second ago he was with Mr. Daedalus, who had handed him a large rucksack and a folded piece of paper. As soon as the rucksack was slung over his shoulder and the piece of the paper was in his hand, he was here. Near as he could place, he was in an elevated walkway with what sounded like engines spinning down in the background. The door behind him was shut, and the hallway ramped downward for about fifty feet before meeting an open doorway. Noticing he still had both the rucksack and piece of paper, he opened the note.

    John,

    You are at Jordan International Airport. Get to the baggage claim, where a woman will pick you up. She will be holding up a card with your name on it. Follow her instructions once there.

    The paper then started smoldering and disintegrated. Flash Paper? John idly noted, before adjusting the rucksack for easier carrying and headed down the ramp. He crossed through the doorways threshold, and ran into a lady who was about to close the door. He almost bowled over the poor woman, but he quickly steadied her before she could fall. She smiled sheepishly, a still a bit frazzled.

    “Sorry Sir! I thought the plane was done disembarking!â€

    He looked up behind her to see the readout: Heathrow, London to Jordan International, Freedom City – On Time.

    “My apologies Miss, it was I who bumped into you.†He let go of her arm. “Could you direct me to the baggage claim?â€

    “Certainly sir! It's down that away,†she pointed. “If you get lost you can always use the signs overhead to orient yourself,†she pointed again at the overhead signs which listed directions to the gates and other places.

    “I see. Thank you.†John said as he started heading towards the baggage claim.

    “Welcome to Freedom City, enjoy your stay!†she said with a smile from behind him, and he turned back and nodded his appreciation before continuing to the baggage claim.

  6. John glanced up as he stepped out of the cab to read Eastern Seaboard Bank carved into the marble above the front security doors of the bank. I'll use the branch in Riverside next time I have to get cash from the account, he thought as he paid the cab driver. He had picked up his backpack and was about to close the cab door when a harried looking woman was somewhat rushing towards him. "Excuse me," he said stepping aside and holding the door open for the woman. The woman smiled her thanks at John, and he closed the cab door behind her.

    He slung his backpack over one shoulder, idly thinking that he should probably spend some of the cash to invest in a better way to tote his uniform around. By the time he walked through the bank doors, John was pondering about seeing if he couldn't find a set of night-vision goggles somewhere as well. He did a quick mental survey of the bank lobby to get a feel for the place as he stepped through the security sensors. I wonder how long this will take, he mused as he got in line behind a man wearing a leather jacket with a shoulder patch.

    Gather Information

    DC10: John is a foreign exchange student enrolled in the junior class at Claremont for the 2011 - 2012 school year. His blond hair and blue eyes would give away his heritage if one didn't know he hailed from Berchtesgaden, Germany. He is a bit reserved, but is skilled in athletics and academics equally. He is most commonly found in the training rooms, where he is usually up to a bit of spotting or sparring.

    DC15: The full name on his passport reads as Johann K. Smith. He prefers to be called John instead of Johann. The records also state that his only living relative is his father, Wilhelm, who is the CEO/COO of a PMC. However, John doesn't like talking about his family. He enjoys playing war games of any stripe but most of his fellow students state that they it's an exercise in frustration because he is so innately good at them. Even ones he hasn't played before.

    DC20: A recurring rumor amongst the student body is that John is related to a World War II metahuman from the Axis side. He takes it in stride though, pointing out that most of them were killed before the end of the war. John can create and utilize a wide range of weaponry. He also seems to have some sort of military training based on his performance in field trials and tests, not to mention his demeanor. He is attending Claremont Academy by his fathers' money.

    DC25: Outside of his passport, and admissions paperwork, "Johann K. Smith" does not exist on any documentation in the United States or Germany. There are no hard copies of birth certificate or medical records, no personal identity information or drivers license, or no bank statements. It's almost like he popped into existence a few months ago, and then had all the proper paperwork supposedly filed, with nary a paper trail to be found.

    DC 30: The money that's paying for his tuition and living expenses is coming from a private bank account that receives deposits from the Freedom League. Investigation into who John Smith truly is leads to a secure server that has a number anti-tampering and hacking protocols.

    DC 35: John Smith is a clone of Wilhelm Kantor, AKA Overshadow. He was an offshoot of the secret eugenics project code named: Project Mimir funded by SHADOW and shut down by Daedalus and the Raven.

    Knowledge (Popular Culture)

    DC 20: The local Airsoft/Paintball/Laser Tag businesses have banned one John Smith & Company from participation due to suspected cheating by use of radios or other methods.

    I picked Myrmidon as my code name after the legendary Thessalians who accompanied King Achilles in the Trojan War who were a loyal follower who executed orders unquestioningly or unscrupulously.

    Clone RC-1207. My SHADOW handlers usually shortened it to O7. My official name now is John Smith.

    Where do you live?

    Currently, in a spare room at Claremont Academy.

    How old are you? What year were you born (if applicable)?

    I was created in 2008, so my actual age is a little over 3 years. However, I physically appear to be around 17-18.

    I keep my hair short, just above a buzz cut and slicked back. I do not have facial hair by choice.

    I suppose so. I have not heard others comment on this fact.

    No, these were weeded out by the SHADOW geneticists.

    I tend to check out everything/everybody when I enter a room. Exits, entrances, etc. It's an ingrained habit from SHADOW behavioral programming. It comes in handy, but some people think I'm staring at them if I linger to long on them.

    Clone Tank RC-1207, which was in a SHADOW Complex under Freedom City.

    I reside in Freedom City currently.

    the ID that was given to me lists my country of citizenship as Germany, and that I am an exchange student at Claremont. I do not view myself as patriotic, because I have never been there. As for the government, I have no real opinion.

    How do you feel about the place you come from?

    Glad to be out of there. I'd rather not think about where I’d be currently if I was not rescued from SHADOW.

    Where is your home town? What was/is it like?

    If you are referring to the SHADOW facility. It was like growing up in a boot camp.

    Growing up, were most of the people you knew similar to you, or were you somehow a minority? How did that affect you?

    When they originally started there were 50 of my clone stock. They then weeded out all but me.

    Is there something you've always been really good at or really bad at? How has that affected your life?

    I was mentally programmed to be a competent field commander and squad leader.

    Were there any traumatic experiences in your early years (death of a family member, abandonment, orphaned at an early age)?

    Pretty much most of my time at the SHADOW facility would be considered traumatic.

    Briefly describe a defining moment in your childhood and how it influenced your life.

    When the complex was taken down by Raven and Daedalus. They took me out of there, and I finally have the freedom to make my own choices.

    What stupid things did you do when you were younger?

    None. Failure to comply resulted in harsh punishment.

    Like other SHADOW clones, I had my knowledge flash implanted into my memory. I would call it up to a high school education, but my specialized knowledge is probably at Grad School level. It wasn't enjoyable. The process tends to leave headaches lasting for hours afterward.

    Do you have any mementos of your childhood? What are they, and why did you keep them? If you have none, why not?

    All I have left is my old SHADOW issue armor. I've since re-purposed it into my 'superhero' uniform.

    When did you decide to become a hero? Why? Did anyone influence you one way or another in the decision?

    I'd say seeing Raven and Daedalus in action helped because they gave me the choice, and honestly if that's what they chose to do with their lives, then why couldn't I? I figured I might as well then use my abilities to take down the people who created me for evil.

    Is the reason you give people for becoming a hero different than your real reason? If so, why?

    Nope.

    Do you have any deep, dark secrets in the past that may come back to haunt you?

    Well, I AM a clone of Overshadow. Some people will probably not like that. Plus, there is always a chance that SHADOW might find me someday.

    Do you represent yourself as being different from who you really are? Why?

    Yes. Most people tend to react oddly to hearing that you are a clone.

    If you do have these secrets, what do you fear would happen if the truth became known? How far would you go to protect those secrets?

    Worst case scenario? SHADOW would find me, and the repercussion of that would not be pretty. I honestly don’t know how far I would go.

    More akin to guilt by association. Being associated with SHADOW tends color one's opinions. It is not public knowledge.

    No. I was raised by SHADOW scientists/handlers.

    My genetic material is a copy of Wilhelm Kantor AKA Overshadow. It tends to make people who know of SHADOW a bit wary in dealing with me.

    Well, the Freedom League for one. The threat of SHADOW getting me is serious.

    At the moment the only loyalty I have is to Claremont Academy/Duncan Summers and myself. I do not think I could order them.

    Who or what do you trust the most? Why?

    Mr. Summers. He's giving me a chance.

    Who or what do you despise? Why?

    People who enslave/control people. All people should have the right to make their own choices.

    What qualities do you admire most in other people? Are these qualities you possess?

    Perseverance, Integrity, Responsibility, and Morality. I'd like to think so.

    What qualities do you hate most in other people? Do you have any of those qualities?

    Lack of Empathy, Narcissism, Cruelty, Hubris. Yes, after all I am only human. However, by acknowledging I have the capability of these things, I can work past them.

    No. The only secret I keep is my origins and that is more to protect the people than myself. If they want to know, I will tell them. But never so that the general public will know.

    I can both execute and follow orders. I work equally well solo or with allies. This is pretty much my area of specialization, though I prefer to lead.

    No. But I do not know what the future holds.

    No. But I haven't really gotten out much yet.

    Who are your heroes?

    The men and women who are willing to fight for what they believe in, who make a stand no matter the odds.

    Did you ever become disillusioned with former heroes or idols? If so, why and what were the circumstances?

    I don't have anyone that fits that description.

    Do you like being a hero? If so, what is the most rewarding part? If not, what makes you keep doing it?

    Yes. Being able to use my powers which were meant for evil, in the aiding of others makes me feel somehow right with the world.

    Is there anything that would make you give up hero work, or even switch sides?

    Almost anybody can be forced against their will. So yes, but it wouldn't be a willing decision on my part.

    What are your short term goals (what would you like to be doing within a year)?

    Well, I would like to have some friends and explore the world a little.

    What are your long term goals (what would you like to be doing twenty years from now)?

    I really don't know. Hopefully still fighting the good fight and being a hero.

    What is your greatest fear? Why? What do you do when something triggers this fear?

    Being chained/restrained/controlled. Being someones' pawn with no will of your own is something that is deeply disturbing to me. I will fight until the bitter end, and I will not pull punches.

    Is there anything you would give you life for?

    “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they posses certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.†It's a paraphrase of the Declaration of Independence, but dying for any of those is a just cause.

    How do you feel about money and material wealth? Do you desire it or disdain it? Are you miserly with what you have, or do you like to share? Is it a mark of success, or a means to an end?

    Money isn't that important. It is nice to possess, but it is a means to an end.

    How do you generally treat others?

    Like how I would want to be treated myself, with respect and civility.

    I trust people more the more I know them, but am wary of ulterior motives. But so far? No.

    I am more of a reserved person who likes to sit back than be in the center of things. But I am confident of my own abilities.

    I tend to want to analyze and read people, which some interpret as staring or unnerving at the very least.

    Yes. People who exploit others for their own ends. Since it is easier to for them to exert little or no effort to gain what they want by making somebody else suffer.

    What is your favorite food? Do you prefer any particular type of food? Do you take the time to enjoy your food, or do you eat as fast as you can?

    I enjoy MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat). I'll try most any new food once, though I tend to eat fast.

    Water.

    What is your favorite treat (dessert)?

    I do not have a specific favorite, but I enjoy most things that contain milk chocolate.

    Are there any specific foodstuffs that you find disgusting or refuse to eat?

    I do not like viscera (organ) foodstuffs. It does not appeal to me.

    I do not have one. I dislike very bright or garish colors.

    I do not have any musical preferences.

    Anything relating to the oppression of others.

    No.

    I do not belong to any religious association.

    Could you kill? Have you killed?

    Yes. No.

    What circumstances led to you forming that conviction, or taking that action?

    Sometimes killing someone is the only solution.

    Are there circumstances under which you believe it is permissible to kill? What are they?

    Yes. Though this isn't a fair question. The decision to end someones' life must not be taken lightly no matter the situation. What matters is if you are willing to bear the responsibility and repercussions of ending a life. Arbitrarily making hypothetical situations makes light of that decision.

    How would you react to watching someone kill another person? Would your reaction be different if the killer was a friend or an enemy of yours?

    I have seen people die, and I would not idly stand by if I could rectify the situation. Of course my reaction would be different if someone important to me was the killer or the target.

    How would you react if something important was stolen from you?

    I really have nothing of worth to steal, so I have no idea.

    How would you react to public humiliation?

    I would ignore it. What other people think is what other people think. I can't control that, I can only do what I believe is right.

    How would you react if a good friend or relative were purposely or accidentally killed? Has it happened to you?

    I don't know. I would probably want to make sure that however it was perpetrated justice would be done. No, it has not.

    What do you consider to be the worst crime someone could commit and why?

    Enslavement, mental or physical. Not having free will is a fate arguably worse than death.

    If your life were to end in 24 hours, what five things would you do in those remaining hours?

    The only thing I can think of would be to try and cause as much damage to SHADOW and Overshadow that I could.

    Do you have any special training in your hero skills? If so, where and how did you get it?

    Yes. I was a experiment in advanced eugenics by SHADOW, and artificially given specialized knowledge.

    Who taught you the most about your heroing abilities? What was your relationship with that person?

    Again, SHADOW scientists since I was their test subject.

    Do you have any particularly unusual skills? How did you acquire them?

    Well, I was originally only able to make duplicates, but eventually I was able to make simple weapons as well. Daedalus thinks it is an extension of my powers.

    Do you do something besides hero work for a living? Have you ever done anything else, or do you plan to?

    No. But I plan on figuring that out as I go at Claremont.

    Using tactics and strategy with combined arms to coordinate effective combat maneuvers.

    What skill areas would you like most to improve in? Is there anything you can't do that you wish desperately you could?

    I do not believe I have fully realized the abilities that I possess as of yet. I am positive new abilities and tricks will come in time as I gain more experience. I wish I could fly or have a movement power like some of the other heroes. It would definitely be an advantage.

    How do you act around people who are more skilled than you in areas you'd like to improve? Are you jealous, or do you try and learn?

    I would be wanting to learn more. Why be jealous of somebody? Nobody is good at everything, I believe.

    Lifestyle & Hobbies

    What is a normal day for you? How do you feel when something interrupts this routine?

    Wake up and get ready. Then exercise, eat breakfast and start training/schoolwork. Eat Lunch, then more training/schoolwork. Eat Supper. Finish up any outstanding duties/chores, and then have some time before sleep to relax. I don't let interruptions bother me, and try to finish what I was doing after I have dealt with the interruption.

    Do you have any hobbies, or interests outside hero work? What are they, and where did you pick them up?

    I enjoy tabletop board, strategy, and wargames. Daedalus used one to test me one time, and I found it enjoyable. I also hear that computer games might also be interesting to me.

    What do you do for fun?

    I do a lot of reading, maybe play a game or two. I also like exercising.

    Do you have a costume? What does it look like?

    I took my old SHADOW uniform and basically made it more utilitarian and less 'faceless minion'.

    How do you normally dress when not in costume?

    I favor old army surplus gear usually with a pair of unlaced combat boots and a weather beaten grenadier cap.

    What do you wear to bed most nights?

    Boxers.

    Do you wear any special jewelry? What is it, and what does it look like?

    I have a Dog-tag that looks like an WW2 era Knights' Cross I usually wear.

    Do you have a special place where you keep your valuables?

    No I do not.

    If its' close by running. Further than that I'd prefer a vehicle. Long distance either helicopter or airplane.

    Nope.

    I assume DNA identification would be easy, but there are thousands of SHADOW clones.

    Yes. If SHADOW had gotten their way, I'd be the new template for every clone they cranked out. Luckily I was rescued from that fate. They can still come after me though.

    Video opens with a blond young man in his late teens sitting at a table. The room is small with one entrance, and from the looks of it this is being filmed from behind a one way glass panel. John looks about the room before rubbing at his wrist, where some sort of device is attached. He raises his wrist to eye level, intent on taking a closer look at the piece of hardware when the door opens.

    Duncan Summers walks in and closes the door behind him. He looks toward the young man, “You don't want to mess with that son, if you try and take it off you'll get a nasty shock.†John pauses before placing his hands back in his lap, and Duncan sits down across from him. “I've got a few questions that I am going to ask you, and I expect you to be honest. Do you understand?†John straightens in his chair, at attention. “Yes sir, I understand.â€

    “Excellent. Let's Begin. Do you know where you come from and why you are here?†(1)

    “I was found at a SHADOW Scientific Complex underneath Freedom City, where I was an experiment in advanced eugenics. After the Freedom League destroyed the facility, I was taken here in attempt to discern their objectives. This included finishing my gestation as I was physically at the age of 12 at the time. Mr. Daedalus also hoped to purge the indoctrination programming present in most SHADOW clones, Sir.â€

    “Since you are a clone, how do you distinguish yourself from the others and from the rest of us?†(2) Duncan Summers pauses to further quantify. “Physically, I mean.â€

    John looks down at the table while he composing his thoughts. “Well Sir, while I am a template of Wilhelm Kantor; I believe that the experiments performed on me make me unique. I am positive that I am the only clone with my abilities.†John returned his gaze to Summers. “As for the general populace, the best I can hope for is that I am just viewed as just another athletically focused teenager.â€

    “Well now, John. Are you always like this?†Puzzlement flashed across John's features at his non comprehension. “I mean, are you always the soldier? Formal in your speech and constantly on guard?†(3)

    “I believe that is to be caused by my rather unusual upbringing, Sir. You are not my peer or my enemy so that would only mean that you are my superior, therefore you must be given due respect for a man of your position.†John shook his head “Besides, Sir. Would you not yourself be a bit leery if you were in my place?†Summers laughed. “I suppose so. That still doesn't explain your trying to analyze me since I walked in.†John looked sheepish, like he hadn't meant to have gotten caught. “Mr. Daedalus thinks that it is a programmed instinct from the SHADOW training. If it makes you feel any better Sir, I firmly believe that you could wipe the floor with me, especially with this device on my wrist nullifying my super-normal abilities.â€

    Summers smiled as he leaned back in his chair. “Indeed. So what is your motivation here, what do you want to do with your abilities if we let you outside?†(4)

    “That's an easy one Sir. I just want to live as a free man, able forge my life via my own choices. Even if I didn't have my powers, I think it is my duty that other people have that chance to do that as well.â€

    “I see. So what strengths would you play to, and what weaknesses would you have to cover?†(5)

    “I was designed to be a self sufficient force multiplier. Anything that you would need a group of soldiers, covert ops, or the the like I am ideally suited for. Coupled with that I was also programmed to be a field commander and am knowledgeable about tactics and strategy in combat. However, I am lacking in real world experience and dealing with others. I believe that rectifying that is part of the reason you are here, Sir.â€

    Duncan mm-hemmed as he made a mark, and flipped the page. “I understand you don't have much worldly experience, but do you have any preferences on things? Things you like, things you hate?†(6)

    John sort of shrugged. “Not really, Sir. About the only thing I can say that I dislike immensely is being controlled or things of that nature. Locked rooms also make me uncomfortable, but it's nothing I can't choose to ignore.†“Anything you like at all?" Duncan queried. “Well, I could say that I enjoy anything that employs tactical or strategic thinking. War game simulations for example.â€

    Summers flipped to a new page, and looked at John's psychiatric profile that was compiled by Psuedo.

    “In describing Johns' mental and emotional state (7), I consider the subject sane and rational. He has a marked dissociation with his feelings. I would quantify him as having Alexithymia, but I sense that as he connects more with other people that this will normalize. The worst thing for him at this point would be continued isolation and rigid discipline. In fact probably it is the indoctrination programming of SHADOW that does not allow their agents to have full on psychiatric episodes.â€

    Satisfied, Duncan flipped back to the questions. “So John, could you describe your personal worst case scenario? (8)

    “I would imagine that would be SHADOW finding out that I was not killed along with the destruction of the lab and capturing me. Then I would be analyzed, tested, and then probably eventually killed and dissected to provide SHADOW with a stable clone stock of my powers. Not to mention torture to extract everything that I know. I don't need to point out that a mere foot soldier with even my most basic ability would be a significant tactical and strategic resource for SHADOW and Overshadows' future plans.†John looked Duncan straight in the eyes. “For example, I am a perfect suicide bomber. They wouldn't even lose a resource since it was merely a duplicate carrying the package. Combined with the mental link, performing precision simultaneous attacks is effortless.â€

    Summers frowned. “That is putting it mildly. More like a nightmare if you ask me.â€

    John gravely nodded. “Yes Sir.â€

    “Well, that's enough of that. Do you have any goals or anything, John?†(9) Duncan queried.

    “Again not really, Sir. I just want to try and live my life at the moment. Learn new things, see new places, meet new people. Maybe after I do that for a while I will have found a goal by then.â€

    “So you just want to find your place in the world? I can respect that. But what happens if you don't find it to your liking?†(10)

    “Were all in this together, Sir.†He tapped his left index finger idly on the table. “Everyone has problems. Not everyone has solutions. Not everyone has the will to change things either. The only thing I can do give is my best, day in and day out and hope others can do the same.â€

    “You say that you're trained to be a field leader, but I assume you've only ever trained with your duplicates. Can you work with others? Can you avoid prejudice in your decisions?†(11)

    “Yes Sir. Learning to work and integrate with others is not just common sense, but I have to trust those people with my life as well in the field. In my opinion, prejudice without reason only hinders. There may be people I grow to like or dislike, but letting that influence my decisions sets a dangerous precedent.â€

    Duncan scribbled a few notes down. “John, how do your loyalties play into that? How do you decide?†(12)

    “Shakespeare said it best. 'This above all else to thine own self be true'. My loyalties are to the people, things, or ideals I cleave to. Choosing one over the other should not be something that is done lightly. You choose the one that is the best in your opinion and leads to the greatest good. Even if you personally suffer, as long as it was worth it in the end your means are kept true.â€

    Summers flipped past the next couple of questions. John certainly didn't have any lover or partner of any sort, (13) and the only family that he could be considered having was a sociopathic supervillian of a father. (14) Who John has already postulated would treat him as property before anything else.

    He glanced up at John who was busy looking at the camera in the corner. He really hasn't connected with anybody, though Daedalus says his potential is worrying. He had to described him (15) as a sort of like a Guard Dog who lost his master. He needs to be looked after, but needs a place to protect and stay. Not that open at first either, and rather rigid. Summers noted on the form. But he could potentially be a good role model (16) for the other Claremont students. His attitude and willingness to try are good traits. Not to mention he'd be an excellent training resource...

    “Sir?†Summers stopped his note taking. John was looking at him. “Do you have any more questions?†Duncan finished up his notes and flipped past pages. “I do, but you're not in general who these questions were intended for.†“Ah, I understand, Sir.â€

    “Okay, next question. “Do you have any beliefs? Possess any spiritualism or the like?†(17)

    “No Sir. I find asking for help from a god that might merely be a metahuman or the like to be at odds with my understanding of faith and belief. I'm open to the possibility, but for the most part I find it nonsensical.â€

    “All right, If you had the option of being on a team, would you like to?†(18)

    “Yes. It would be an interesting challenge to make up new strategies and tactics and taking a group of people and getting a functioning cohesive unit. While I can work on my own, more people mean more options. Having more options is always a good thing.

    “So then, do you feel super-normal people like yourself have a distinct role in society here on Earth?†(19)

    John thinks for a few seconds before responding. “Well, regardless if you have powers or not,†he looks pointedly at Duncan. “If you have the capability of helping your fellows, why wouldn't you? I mean some people are just sociopaths or just lazy and that's where you get people like my genetic donor. But I view it as a responsibility to use one's abilities for the betterment of all. Besides, we have to keep the others in check. Being a hero is hard, a villain, not so much.

    Satisfied, Summers closes his notes. “Well John, I'll be back in a little bit. I have some things to discuss. It shouldn't be long.†“Okay, Sir.â€

    The video skips forward to Summers walking back in. “A piece of advice first, John."(20) “Sir?â€

    “You don't have to prove anything. Just be who you want to be. The only expectations you should have are your own at this point.â€

    "That being said,†he holds out his hand to John. “Welcome to Claremont Academy.â€

    Like the man he was cloned from, Myrmidon would be considered an ideal poster boy for the Reich. Tall and solidly built, he is far lighter on his feet than his frame would suggest. Working in his professional capacity as a security consultant he favors dark suits with clean lines. In his off hours, preferring to wear simple and rugged clothing that usually came from the nearby military surplus store. His combat uniform is an amalgamation of his past and present – The LACUNA (Lightweight Adaptive Combat & Utility Nanoforged Armor) suit he wears has a distinct SHADOW heritage as due to it being a working field prototype that he forcibly repossessed from his former handlers. The featureless helmet seamlessly integrates with the armor making while making a call back to his roots as a faceless SHADOW minion. In addition, it has the effect of obscuring his voice, requiring a comm-link to communicate which others.

    Power Descriptions: According to the non-damaged files Raven retrieved from the SHADOW complex, Myrmidon was designed to make a peak physical and mental specimen of the normal SHADOW clone. Unlike most replica troopers this variant stock was also intended to be completely autonomous, possessing a near perfect duplication of Kantors' memories and experiences minus redactions necessary to prevent rampancy. The integrated DNA had numerous effects from heightening senses, boosting cellular regeneration, and optimizing bodily functions ranging from caloric intake to lactic acid degradation. With continuing SHADOW mental programming, flash learning, and physical training; the project scientists had succeeded in created a terrifyingly effective super-soldier prototype that would only improve with time.

    History: Clone designation RC-1207 was extracted from a SHADOW research base by Raven and Daedalus as the only surviving prototype clone of what was termed Project: MARATHON, which itself was an offshoot of the Project: MIMIR. Said clone used advanced techniques for faster gestation and stable mutations compared to older model SHADOW clones. This new clone was designed to be an peak physical specimen utilizing numerous other genetic templates that were introduced to the clones during initial gestation from numerous sources such as psions, magicians, and other pre-existing meta-humans in SHADOWs' employ. If this worked, it would vastly improve the combat performance of SHADOW replica troopers. The endgame scenario of the project was to give Overshadow the perfect container for his consciousness. Luckily, Raven and Daedalus destroyed the SHADOW base and extracted the sole surviving clone and all related information that could be salvaged.

    The unique nature of the clone prevented its outright destruction by the Freedom League. Daedalus, by using data found at the SHADOW complex found that the cloning process was incomplete and needed to be finished in order for the clone to fully develop. When given the green light to proceed, the immortal inventor added further social conditioning in lieu of the standard SHADOW indoctrination programming in hopes of giving the clone free will. He was wildly successful in removing most, if not all of the programming. The clone proved intelligent and physically superior, but still only had a basic grasp of social concepts and interaction. At this point Duncan Summers suggested enrolling him at the Claremont Academy to allow him to develop the necessary skills to reintegrate into society under the alias Johann Schmidt, anglicized to John Smith.

     

    John spent two years at Claremont before graduating with honors, having made numerous friends and acquaintances in addition to firmly proving his allegiance to all of his naysayers. He worked well solo and as a team player, from the day to day interaction with his friends on the Irregulars to impromptu field team-ups with other heroes. After graduating he spent a few months looking at his options before deciding to become a freelance security specialist, applying his training and expertise to clients that needed someone like him. This has formed more cordial relations between him and government agencies such as AEGIS and their like. He is currently pursing a degree via the internet in Military Science as he is rarely in one place long enough to settle down. Over the past year the jet-setting hero has been spotted worldwide as he pursues his career and making sure SHADOW keeps to its namesake.

     

    Personality & Motivation: John is a terse, introverted, and direct young man. That being said, he does enjoy new experiences and meeting people. He views using his abilities for good as a sort of balance to the misdeeds of his genetic donor, and is adamant that he will not be used like that ever again. John does have long term plans and goals, but he prefers to take things as they come at him as befits his 'focus on the present mindset'.  He is a very, very driven (some have called him intense) individual who gives 110% in all situations: from his hobbies to fieldwork. He is openly friendly and polite, but still remains wary of others (especially scientists) outside of his social circles.

    Powers & Tactics: Myrmidon was created and trained to be an soldier and operative without compare. His innate knowledge of tactics allows him to easily read any combat situation, making coordination of allies or maximizing and exploiting enemy weaknesses second nature. His LACUNA Suit modes allow unparalleled versatility on the battlefield, affording him multi-role utility and capabilities. His training is focused on asymmetric warfare, infiltration, and elimination techniques. John is a combat pragmatist first and foremost never subscribing to the idea of a fair fight, and is willing to use underhanded tactics if he has to. However, he prefers to analyze a situation before going in hot if at all possible to ascertain any advantage he can garner. Once in the thick of things he favors ending a fight as quickly as possible utilizing his brutally efficient combat style, not holding back regardless of the opponent.


    Complications:

    A Man Chooses, A Slave Obeys: Myrmidon has vowed not be subjugated in any manner ever again and will fight till the bitter end in situations where he or others are chained/restrained/or controlled against their will.

    Cold Professional: Having been mentally conditioned to be the perfect soldier, Myrmidon fully comprehends by the harsh realities of war. As such, he is willing to contemplate and potentially use methods that are frowned upon by the vast majority of the heroic community. This rings especially true when and where it concerns SHADOW; the normally taciturn Myrmidon displays that he possesses other aspects of Wilhelm Kantors' besides just his appearance, namely Overshadows' legendarily frosty demeanor and temper.

    Sins of the Father: Overshadow/SHADOW enemies tend to be his enemies until aware of who/what Myrmidon exactly is, and the same applies in reverse for allies of Overshadow/SHADOW. Due to this, Myrmidon most definitely gets off on the wrong foot with any heroes/people that know what Overshadow/Shadow Clones look like under their masks. Furthermore, Myrmidon possesses first-hand experience and classified knowledge of SHADOW and its various assets. Because of this SHADOW has declared him a wanted fugitive, so he attempts to keep as low of a profile as possible, deferring his contributions and preferring to remain anonymous versus the spotlight.

    Description:

    In her normal appearance Juno is a lithe, attractive-looking young woman in with the toned body of a gymnast with piercing violet eyes. Juno appears to be in her late twenties to early thirties and she prefers darker clothing with a business-like appearance, but when she is on the job she shifts it to a blend of a more utilitarian style. She has an aura of sophistication about her, and keeps a level head and appearance.

    History:

    Juno was born in 1977 to Caitlin and Jonathan Archer. Caitlin and Jonathan were Unison agents, who retired shortly thereafter. They moved to Freedom City and the young Juno was practically destined to be an agent. When the Terminus Invasion happened, her parents were unluckily killed. Since she was still under legal age, custody of her got turned over to her only living relative, her grandfather on her fathers' side. It was then she found out that he was Codename: Kilroy, and she might have a chance to inherit his powers since he got them from his grandfather. At the very least, he told her that she'd make a good agent and follow in her parents footsteps.

    When she turned 18, she applied to the agency and after a battery of entrance exams and physical tests she was accepted. Even more bizarre, blood tests revealed she was related to the Nazi master of disguise Doppelganger also! During this time her grandfather had passed as well. It was surmised that her French grandmother was pregnant with her mother when she came over to the States, and whether by luck or fate she was related to the two of the most renowned secret operatives from WW2!

    Her latent talents flared to life after nearly dying in an operation in Russia against a rogue Bio-Organic Weapon, and were even more powerful than expected. Unison, excited to have the talents of a super infiltrator on hand, promptly started training her and sending her on sensitive missions. Juno was a rising star, and it looked like there were great things in the future for her. However, government agencies are political beings in nature, and someone somewhere along the line sent out to torpedo her career. Disgusted she left the agency and settled back into freedom city, where she moved into her grandfather old house. During cleaning up she found an unopened note to her mother about a safe deposit box not in a handwriting she recognized.

    Intrigued, she retrieved the safe deposit box and on top of the things in it was a note from Doppelganger, explaining fleeing the country since she had found out some of the dark secrets of the Nazis, and wanted no part of it. She had evaded capture and fled/retired to Freedom City, and put up her child for adoption. Years later she came to regret her decision, and had left the entirety of her estate to her mother.

    Juno was shocked as the estate was worth millions, not to mention the Deed to Lighthouse Point in North Bay. Taking the money she founded a company, Archer Security Consultants, specializing in designing and testing high-end security systems. Within a few months she had a highly successful security company, but she was bored. It wasn't really the same as fieldwork, and she missed the danger. There was an easy fix for that with all these supers running around, so why couldn't she have some fun as well?

    The Doppelganger lurks in Freedom City!

    Personality & Motivation:

    Calm, Cool, Clinical, and Collected are the easiest way to describe Juno. She prefers analysis before action, and is a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to work. She doesn't leave things half done, and when around friends she loosens up and turns into a bit of a deadpan snarker with a penchant for gallows humor. That said, it's rather eerie how easily she switches gears when she's masquerading as someone else, especially to the people who know her real personality.

    As for motivation, it all boils down to doing something that she enjoys. She vastly prefers fieldwork, and goes stir crazy if she can't go out and do something. Given a choice, she'd rather be involved in superhero weirdness than stuck in normalcy.

    Powers & Tactics:

    With the powers of shapeshifting and concealment under her command, it is only natural that she is a skilled infiltrator and scout. Adding to that are her skills gained from working as a spy for the government, and there is little to no barriers that can bar her way.

    In combat she is agile, using the environment to outmaneuver her opponent, though she favors urban terrain. She will attempt to always have the target at the greatest disadvantage, and she will use any and all advantages she can get. From shooting at point blank ranges while hiding, disabling strikes, or even throwing her opponent off a roof, Juno has the utmost disdain at the concept of so-called Ëœhonorable combat". If someone takes up the point with her, she points out that she was trained to win not to fight fair.

    Complications:

    Enemy/Rivalry: The Magpie. She ran into him on a job for her and a theft for him. While she foiled the robbery, she has gained his interest much as Raven had before.

    Enemy: Warden. Trying to prove he was the best, he kidnapped and threw the CEOs of the local security companies of Freedom City into a jail of his creation. By the time he realized something was up, he was unconscious on the floor.

    Prejudice/Secret: As a shapeshifter people tend to be naturally guarded and more suspicious of her

    Responsibility: CEO of Archer Security Consultants is her day job as it were. The company helps other companies shore up their security, and helps design and implement security protocols as well.

    I'm a 26 year old nuclear chemist living in Wichita, KS. I'm a big fan of Hong Kong Action Cinema, Anime & Manga, Computer Gaming, Military History, Philosophy, Tabletop Boardgames, Science, and of course RPG's. All and all just a normal run of the mill lab rat.

    I've been playing pen and paper RPGs for a while, starting with Star Wars D6 and expanding to DnD 3.0/3.5/Pathfinder, Spycraft/Stargate SG-1, Exalted, Shadowrun, Mechwarrior, Legend of the 5 Rings, Star Wars Revised/Saga, d20 Modern, Mutants & Masterminds and a smattering of others. Yay for being an otaku!

    Like Darius, I had been using hide in plain sight to keep an eye on the board, and hope it would last longer than some games I've had the misfortune of watching fall apart from the inside. But now, I'm ready for some action.
