  1. "And it's a hard eight. He's a winner again," said the stickman as he collected the dice for inspection again.

Sammy smiled as he watched the chips come his way. He hadn't lost a bet yet and most of his bets were of the big payoffs. He had made sure that he rolled only two of three times to keep suspicion off of him but his continued winning streak was drawing quite a crowd. Sammy decided to let the next bet pass him by as he looked about the large casino floor.

Standing over by the slot machines, trying not to be obvious staring, was one of the standard issue security guards. Sammy knew their kind and wasn't too worried about him. He was more worried about the reall security in a place like this. The ones that were dressed like other players were the guys that caught people like Sammy.

Sammy turned his head and smiled slightly as his eyes landed on a young man at the Blackjack table just opposite of the craps table. The guy was fairly plain but he had sat down right after Sammy won his fourth bet in a row. The guys stack of chips never really changed in height and he seemed to be more interested in the area around him than his cards. Defiantely one of the hidden security guys.

"Sir? Are you going to bet?" came the voice of the stickman while looking at Sammy. Sammy blinked and turned his focus on the game again.

"Sure. I'll bet one last time. Almost time for me to get going," he said as he looked down at his chips. He had gathered almost thousand dollars in his short time playing. He slowly and deliberately moved it all over to the biggest pay off possible, Aces or Boxcars, a 30 to 1 pay out.

The stickman looked at the bet still holding the dice in his hands. "Sir, I unable to let a bet of that size pass without instructions from the manager. If you would kindly wait a moment," he said as he made a gesture over his head.

Sammy turned and saw the floor manage approach the craps table. He talked with the stickman for a moment before looking over at Sammy who smiled. The manager nodded his head but took the dice from the stickman.

"New dice, and the bet is acceptable. Do you wish to throw?"

Sammy continued to smile at the manager but shook his head. "Naw, I don't want you guys to think I was cheating or something. Let someone else roll. Your choice."

The small crowd of people gasped slightly at the bold statement. Every person that came to the casino knew never to leave the thrower in the descretion of the house. Here in Boardwalk, there was a good chance that they'd pick one of their fixed shooters to do the roll. If that happened, you were guarenteed to lose your money.

The manager nodded his head and looked at the people around the table. "You sir, will do nicely," he said as he handed the dice to the young man from the Blackjack table. While waiting for the manager to approach, he had left his table and joined teh crowd of people.

'So, they're going to try and stiff me, eh?' Sammy thought, his smile never leaving his face. He took a moment to check the area again for the exits and the nearness of other "hidden" security. A small ring was slowly being formed around Sammy and still he didn't think much about it. "Let him roll. I've got no objections."

The young man took the dice and rolled them onto the table. They tumbled to the edge and began to bounce back. Sammy could feel the air around him charged with the energy that he could control. One of the dice rolled on a small snag on the velvet cover of the table, the small imperfection was just large enough to spin the die into its counterpart. The collision made the first die land face up on one. The added momentum caused the second die to do two more flips before coming to a rest on a one. Snake eyes for most people, but for Sammy, it was a the big payoff.

"I think you owe me thirty large ones," Sammy said without looking away from the manager.

The crowd around the table erupted into wild cheers for the daring win.

  4. The problem here is that Satori, by conception, goes for the kill shot -- and will look durn ineffectual and be no fun if he never actually succeeds. But if my primary opposition is other PCs, rather than NPCs as I originally thought, there are obvious difficulties.

I may have to reconsider playing this character /at all/. Nertz.

I don't know about that. Looks like we have a lot of freedom on the board to create NPCs. Why not make a bunch of NPC heroes that you can kill with impunity? Of course, there is the whole idea of taking that one step to kill places the villian in a world of trouble, both from heroes and other villians alike.

I once read somewhere the thinking of villians and heroes. There is an unspoken rule in comics that villians don't kill which in turn ensures that the heroes don't kill them. It made really good sense to me and is something you may wish to consider in playing Satori. The heroes may turn around and start trying to kill him and that in turn would make things more difficult for other villians to succeed at their plans. Cross the wrong villian and he'll start coming for you himself.

Just something to keep in mind.

  7. Just thinking of the possible casino games open to players. The easist to do would be Blackjack, but I figure to use a d13 to represent the game where J, Q, and K are represented by 11, 12, and 13. Make two rolls with no mods on it for the cards dealt to you. If you wish to make a hit, roll again until you wish to stop. Once your score has been decided, roll for the house. House stops on a score of 16 or better.

    For example:

    First two cards (1d13=2, 1d13=8)

this is only a ten so I decide to roll again.

    Third card (1d13=4)

I decide to play it safe and stop here.

I then roll for the House.

House first two cards (1d13=13, 1d13=12)

The house ends up with a King and Queen, winning the hand.

  10. I plan on doing a lot with the Mob, but from teh villian side of things. :D

I'll be working in South Freedom so if any of you heroes (PL 6) are looking for something to break up, let me know. I plan on doing a small bank robbery soon. :harley:

  13. Sammy smiled as he learned more about the going ons along Boardwalk.

It seemed that there were a number of supers working the streets, making sure that the area was under control. Foreshadow, a man that seemed to always be right were a guy didn't want him to be. Sammy wonder what to do if the guy showed up when he was dealing with a bank? 'Ah well, Lady fortune would deal with the situation if it happened.'

The other hero he needed to worry about was some guy named Nightrival. It seemed he mixed it up with the man that tried to rob the Lucky Seven casino. Another person to keep an eye out for.

'So those are some of the people in the area. I'll just need to keep my eye out for them in my dealings,' Sammy thought as he again surveyed the various casinos. Again he looked at them and smiled as he made his decision. 'I think it's time the Atlantis casino suffer a little leakage!'

Sammy laughed out loud as he moved to the casino while rubbing his hands in anticipation.

  16. Sandra Rayne (From Freedom City sourcebook 1st ed. p 81)

Sandra is a prostitute who works near the Boardwalk. She came to Freedom City as a runaway and ended up on the streets selling herself for money. She's twenty now and lives in an apartment in Southside she uses for her "in calls." She makes enough money to live better than many people in her position and she's managed to avoid being picked up by a pimp or getting hooked on drugs. Lots of her "boyfriends" are quite well off and provide her with gifts. Interestingly, one of her "friends" is Foreshadow, who pays Sandra for information from time to time. She keeps this to herself. She's concerned by the fact that Foreshadow has told her she needs to get out of "the life" soon. He hasn't said why, but she's worried nonetheless.

  19. The difficulty there is that there's currently a very high player to referee ratio. We only have limited bandwidth, so whenever possible, we try to have hero PCs going up against villain PCs, since that gets the most players involved. As you said, we'd have to put time into it, so it wouldn't be happening right away. The Crime Syndicate would have to establish itself anyway.

I understand teh pressure the refs have to keep things running. What I would like to see is actually a line or two in the News forum about a hero once in a while. "Captain X has again saved the lives of the people in New York."

No need to have them actually in Freedom city to ruin the well thought out plans of the Crime Syndicate.

On that note, if you're a villain and you've started a thread which no PC heroes have responded to, please post in my "Looking for a storyline? (Redux)" thread. I'll see if I can bring in an NPC hero that makes sense within the context, though I can't promise that I'll respond quickly. I've already got a number of threads that I'm helping to run.

I know the feeling, though I wasn't yet looking for a hero to deal with, more likely just the various NPCs in the area. I'll be putting up some stuff towards that end soon. Of course I hope the NPC information in the Freedom City sourcebook hasn'T changed much from 1st ed to 2nd ed. :)
