Agnes didn't scream or close her eyes this time. She steeled herself against the impact, but this time she was ready for the impact to not happen, just in case. She kept a tight grip on her sword, and Agnes was already in motion when the Emissary tried to grab her. She spun around quickly and found herself nose to nose with her opponent. She pushed him away hard and broke through his grip. Agnes willed herself to be on the other side of the arena, and even as she started moving she kicked out with both feet at the Emissary's chest. The angelic heroine was, unfortunately, too fast for her own good. She was already out of reach. With a burst of sparkling light, Agnes zoomed across the arena to the other side of the Wreck Room, sword out an ready.

His mental checklist had another tick beside it as another gambit failed off of sheer gap in power. Still, at least he was getting some experience in a few maneuvers that had previously only existed inside his head. He was only going to get by on skill here, and so he focused intently on his father's lessons, and the snatches of othermemory that ocassionally flickered in his thoughts, even as he sailed through the air after Agnes in a silvered blur.

He did not feel he had reached the point to indulge in an insistent demand of "if all else fails, do something confusingly outrageous and nuts", and besides, that could traumatize the poor girl, so he stifled that inner voice. Instead, he took in as he chased her that she had a strange insistence on keeping low to the ground. It was odd, and maybe it was something he could use.

He poured on the speed and force of his chase, silvered muscles tensing in strain almost audibly, then banked upwards at the last moment of closing with her, spinning around as he flew just above her to turn himself upside down, reaching downwards in the arc of his body to pull her up into a grapple into the air, hoping that momentum and position would give him success this time. That he could grab her, and continue upwards still.

The Emissary grabbed Agnes from above, and she felt herself being pulled upward. Agnes jerked her arms back away and tried to duck down to escape his grasp. She was mostly successful, but she pulled her right arm completely out of the sweatshirt sleeve. Agnes dropped the sword. It hit the floor point down, and buried its tip deep in the Wreck Room floor plating. For a few painfully embarrassing moments, Agnes wrestled with her sweatshirt. When she finally got her arm back through the sleeve, she reached out and grabbed the Emissary by the arm. She began a flight-powered spin, hoping to fling his sliver body into the wall.

"Oof!"

He felt her yank herself once more out of his grasp, and as he righted himself from being pulled forward from the momentum, her grip landed on his arms to spin him about. He tensed, and sought escape by moving outright into the spin with as much strength and speed as he could, hoping to throw off whatever rhythm and timing she was seeking to build. He used the moment of overextension to push his body forward into hers and out of her grip, shifting around her then, turning so that he exposed only his side to her, even as he cocked back a fist, holding it underhand for a moment as he built up strain enough that it seemed like his silvered arm outright vibrated, and then launched it forward, pushing off from the impact of his strike into her body to send him back to the ground. He settled a foot down on the pommel of her sword as he landed, hoping the weight of his body would drive the blade deeper into the floor.

And ignoring that he was now striking a pose similar to that pirate on that bottle of rum, with his one leg bent like that. Because inevitably he'd just end up thinking about that book about the flying children and the pirates. I mean, it was a good book. Who wouldn't enjoy stories of flying children battling pirates on a magical island? Certainly not him. Hey, maybe Never never land exists somewhe- no, no, now is fighting time.

. . . even as he cocked back a fist, holding it underhand for a moment as he built up strain enough that it seemed like his silvered arm outright vibrated, and then launched it forward, pushing off from the impact of his strike into her body to send him back to the ground.

Agnes was caught completely by surprise. She was still turning in the air, trying to escape the Emissary's grasp, so his punch just brushed her sweatshirt and then landed solidly right under the chin. There was a flash of brilliant light, and for a second it appeared as though her head was covered by an ancient helmet. But then the flash was gone and so was the helmet, and all that was left was the Emissary's fist against Agnes' face.

The blow knocked her immediately unconscious and all of the light surrounding her faded. Agnes was sent soaring in an elongated arc. She it the roof and then the back wall of the gymnasium before tumbling to the floor face forward like a rag doll.

His eyes widened in shock at the effect of his punch.

"That.. oh! That should not have occured at all!"

His words almost echoed behind him as he sped over to catch Agnes' limp body before it could impact onto the ground, then detatching his cape with one hand to place it against the ground, gingerly laying her back over it, bunching up some of the cape to keep her head elevated. He moved over her, fingers shifting in deftly gentle motions over her as he examined her for injury with a practiced care, frowning deeply all the while.

Almost before Agnes hit the ground, Lady Liberty burst through the upper door to the Wreck Room and shot down out of the air to her side. She brushed the girl's hair out of her face to see if she was conscious. She wasn't. Carefully, Lady Liberty assisted the Emissary in tending to Agnes.

For the first time in two days, Agnes felt warm and relaxed. She was at home in her own bed, under the covers, sleeping peacefully. In just a few minutes she would wake up, throw on her warm clothes, and head down stairs, through the anteroom into the kitchen for some warm coffee. It was going to be a good day.

And then she realized that her head was hurting pretty badly, and her back was really stiff. Agnes opened one eye. The world was blurry, but she could make out two faces. This was not her tiny bedroom above the storeroom. "Where am I?"

The events of the last two days came flooding back to Agnes, right up until the point where she tried to grab the Emissary. Everything after that was a blur. Her vision cleared and she saw the concern on the two faces. "I'm okay," she said, trying to sit up. "Really, I'm okay." But she couldn't make it to her feet unassisted.
