  1. Out of the wall sprung 5 figures. Supercape scanned them. If nothing else, he couldn't be accused of recklessness. Quite the reverse. Whilst they looked human, their mass was all wrong. Mannequins, he realised. At least he wasn't being asked to shoot down real crooks!

He noticed that four were carrying firearms. The last was carrying just an umbrella. And a normal one at that, no James-Bond-Poison-Dart device. The set up of this place made him half expect "Q" to pop round the corner and discuss his latest gadget laden car.

Supercape wasn't quick, but he was methodical. Focussing his mind on each target one by one, and exciting the appropriate atoms, each of the gun wielding mannequins was bathed in a greeny-red radiation and exploded, disintegrated, or plain melted. Only the umbrella and its innocent holder remained upright.

He gave Cape a smile. "Jolly good show! I might just pull this hero thing off!" he said with a little pride.

  2. "Well", answered supercape, cracking his knuckles. "The mind is a wonderful thing... especially mine", he smiled and gave a wink. He felt more at home now, thanks to Colt's natural charm.

"I won't go into the math, but its all about how the mind can change quantum states of particles. If you want to call them particles. I'm not sure I do. "

"So, by doing so, I can create electromagnetic radiation. By directly exciting atoms". Untrue to his word, he excitedly started spieling out complex maths and physics that would be incomprehensible to all but post graduate level physicists.

"...So, pragmatically, this allows one to do THIS", he finished, exhausted by his monologue. And with a wave of his arm, and a blurring of the air, came a flash of green radiation at the end of the hallway, causing the remains of the clay targets to melt and burst.

Supercape was quite pleased with himself. "Its all electromagnetic radiation you see, from atomic energy. I can create it anywhere. Give me a target, and I can do all sorts with it. "

  3. Supercape was impressed. He was used to high tech stuff, working at the University. But this place had class even by his standards.

"Magnificent", he spluttered. "And thanks for the ride. Nice little Box you have! Interesting mechanics."

"This is the Underground, you say?", Supercape babbled, not really paying attention to Cape for a few moments as he spun around, taking in all the sights, sounds, and other impressions of the place that his extraordinary senses let him. "Impressive. Splendid. Quite a show!"

Feeling more intimidated than ever, he grasped at his cape that fluttered and expanded. Drawing it around his body, he attempted a display of more confidence. "Now then sir, how might I demonstrate my credentials?"

  4. Supercape took the blindfold. "X-Ray Vision? Um. No. Not exactly X Ray Vision. Not X Ray vision so to speak. "

Supercape looked Colt up and down. On the one hand, he didn't want to start lying. On the other hand, he didn't relish the thought of how he might be carted off to the base if he owned up. As far as he knew, there wasn't any practical way of forcibly turning off his ability to sense mass and energy around him. Aside from being knocked out. And it looked like Colt could be a man of just such pragmatic measures, and a mean hook.

"Well...." he paused. "It's not so much X ray vision. But, I don't think this will really do the job." He handed the small blindfold back with one hand, and started rubbing his jaw unconsciously with the other. "I don't suppose you could just trust me?" He gave a nervous smile...

  5. Supercape got up, dusting himself of sheepishly. "Thank you so much, kind sir. I do apologise for the inconvenience!". Looking around quickly to see nobody was within earshot, he leant in Colt's ear, whispering "I'm frightfully new to all of this, dear chap."

"As for the cape, never fear! They don't call me Supercape for nothing!" he intoned, perhaps a bit more loudly and booming that was really required. He concentrated for a moment, and the cape instantly reformed as fresh as new.

Colt looked every inch the confident, experienced hero Supercape wished he could be. Surely this was the man for the job. Shuffling his feet slightly, Supercape explained:

"My good Mr. Colt, I would be most frightfully grateful if you could give me some advice on this hero business. I am at your service and ready to serve the City!". Not knowing what else to do, he gave an uncertain, stiff salute.

  6. Mild mannered professor Quill stood quietly, unobserved, in the central park. He had never considered himself a heroic type, at least in deed. But everything had changed last year.

Now, he had power. And with it, comes a duty to use it.

Sighing deeply, he stroked his immaculate Tweed Jacket. It had taken him some time to forge it, made as it was from a quantum lattice of unstable molecules. Well, it was worth it. At least he would have something to hide behind.

In a pulse of green blue light, his tweed jacket and bow tie reformed into a magnificent blue costume, complete with fluttering cape, hood, and mask.

"I have no Idea how to do this" he muttered. Well, at least he had insight. What do the ignorant do? they learn. And the best way to start learning was a teacher.

The man known as Colt was his best bet. Contact had been made and a meeting arranged. So... up, up and away!

At least his cape looked magnificent fluttering as he flew off. It helped distract from his frightened and green face.

Supercape soon spied Colt over the West End, as agreed. "Time to make a good first impression", he muttered. He started to float down, hesitantly proclaiming "Behold the amazing SUPERCAPE!", complete with a splendid shifting of light and cloth.

"BLAST AND DAMNATION!" he cursed. His magnificent cape got caught in the Street light as he descended, leaving him spinning and swinging on his cloth...

  7. Thanks again, Quote, sounds very helpful.

Breakdown or Colt may be the easiest to conceptually meet I guess.

Either Colt introducing him to the world of superheroics; SC being such a novice he may actually seek out Colt who is so much more experienced, for advice. Or, his secret ID Quentin may be interested in the physics of Colts "strange new worlds", and seek to interview him.

As for Breakdown, SC or Quentin may be interested in the odd features of his DJ set, and wish to investigate, perhaps in disguise.

Do either of those appeal or sound good to go?

Perhaps something RP with some mechanics (not necessarily combat) thrown in so I get to grips with the OOC threads to.

    Cheers

  8. Hello everybody, me and my hero (Supercape) have arrived in Freedom City!

Having glided in, I would like to shamelessly advertise for some heroic action, if any is going?

I am a bit of a newbie at all of this, by which I mean, complete newbie. Familiar enough with the system but not PBM.

However, I can offer an extremely spiffy cape, and totally unrealistic green radiation effects all in the spirit of superheroic fun. If someone can offer me some action, I will do my best to contribute (im ignorant but I do listen!) - would love to have Supercape debut!

    Cheers for any help! :D

  9. Supercape

    Gather Information

DC 10: Supercape is a new hero of Freedom City, known for his huge, magnificent cape!

DC 15: Supercape's powers appear to revolve around causing radiation effects.

DC 20: Supercape tends to try and solve problems with persuasion rather than violence, although sometimes he has been shot at just for droning on too long.

DC 25: Supercape appears to shun publicity and attention. He never gives interviews, or poses for camera's, and seems to get uncomfortable around crowds. In these circumstances, his cape and costume can actually expand, shift colours, and cover him up from scrutiny.

    Knowledge (Physics)

DC 20: Supercape can cause objects to become radioactive and emit radiation, which can potentially cause small explosions of energy. He does this by directly exciting atoms.

DC 30: His power's seem to relate to manipulating quantum events at the sub-atomic level. There is a process of quantum entanglement between these events and his own status as observer, suggesting his thought patterns can influence these events.

    Quentin Quill

    Gather Information

DC 10: Quentin Quill lectures at Freedom University

DC 15: Professor Quill teaches Physics at the University, particularly Quantum Mechanics and Particle physics. He also performs research there. He is English and has an educated accent. He is known for partaking in academic debates, normally doing quite well at them.

DC 20: Professor Quill lives near the University in a comfortable house, and usually cycles to work. He wears tweed and a bow tie, and is considered an eccentric, but impressive, academic. Aside from his work in physics, he is also an expert in biology and psychology. He has no living relatives. His students rate him as a persuasive and kindly man, better at seminars than large lectures. He is a member of secular and socialist societies.

DC 25: Professor Quill was kicked out of Cambridge the year previously due to radical idea's about the relationship between thought, the mind, and quantum events.

    Knowledge (Physics)

DC 10: Professor Quill is an expert in Quantum mechanics and Particle Physics.

DC 15: He has published papers both in America and Europe.

DC 20: He has held a post at Cambridge, and currently at Freedom University. His prior research looked at the relationship between cognition and quantum events, and was considered radical.

DC 25: His work is very complex and references cognitive neuroscience, parapsychology, and neurophysiology, all of which he is quite grounded in. He still teaches around these subjects.

DC 30: Quill's theorem's are radical, suggesting that the mind, or the observer, is somehow entangled (at a Quantum level) with subatomic events. The equations and theories are extremely complex and the mark of a very clever man.

DC 35: The theories and maths are correct!

  10. Morning/Afternoon/Evening,

I'm a Londoner, married, no kids, and a Doc by trade. I play RPGs now and again, and was very impressed with M&M. I guess i'm a bit of a superhero fan, although not a comic reader.

I think I found this through Atomic Think Tank, I thought I would try it out. My writing skills are atrophied to the point of utter feebleness; perhaps this site will sort that out! Also, I have mild dyslexia and am an appalling proof reader, so apologies for the mess that will leave!

  11. THats the gravity/mass thing then! I like the idea of not being able to sense insubstantial things with it! (although it might depend partly on descriptors I guess. But most insubstantial things would be massless).

The Energy sense? It feels more like a radio based sense, +accuracy for 3 PP.However its not a "radar", it just detects energy. Would this be ok?

    Cheers again

  12. Thanks for your replies.

Ok, ill tell you what I am trying to acheive!

I would like him to be aware of energy and mass around him basically. Aware of its nature and its location.

So, these senses I think would be radius, ranged, acute, and accurate.

As to what exactly he is aware of

The gravity/mass thing is like a form of mental spatial awareness: I am lumping them together because all mass has gravity! Its a kind of "atomic sense". So he couldn't read or work out colours, but he could sense there is a lump of heavy metal on the table, navigate "blindly" or sense there is a 200 lbs man-shaped object about to hit him with a club shaped heavy object.

The energy sense is similar. He could see invisible force fields, electic currents, radiowaves, power cells, robots, etc.

    Does that help?

  13. Thanks again. Supersense allways defeated me.

OK. So the best way I can think of his supersenses is:

    A "mental" Gravity/Mass sense:

    Detect/Ranged (2), Radius (1), Acute (1), Accurate (2) = 6

    A "radio" Energy sense

    Detect (1), Accurate (2) = 3 but isnt this just a radar?

Or should this be a mental sense as per the Gravity/Mass sense, allowing him to sense where energy is and what energy it is?

  14. Actually, thinking about it, it might be best to plump all 3 spare PPs into making energy sense acute and accurate. That fits him a lot better I think.

It leaves reflex at +0. This fits conceptually (it will be pumped up if/when he gains further pps as he becomes more experienced in fighting). Would that be acceptable?
