  1. Chrome's RADAR kept him abreast of the fight even as he traded blows and ducked punches with the gorilla. He noticed when one of the baddies on the ground broke off her attack and started booking it for the aircraft. He knew that it was important to keep the bad guys from breaking their hole in the side of the plane, but he also knew that he couldn't let any of the bad guys get to the doors. The whole fight would be for nothing if someone got inside and to the President.

The teen jumped away from the gorilla, and in mid-air jet exhausts began to poke out of his back and feet. There was a short hum and then he was zooming across the tarmac, directly at the psychic. "Bear hug!" he shouted as he impact with the woman, wrapping his shining limbs around her. "Before you get on this flight, there are some questions we should ask," he said to her, pinning her arms to her side. "Did you pack your own bags?"

  2. First things first, Chrome is going to Regenerate that Bruise. His Recovery check is 18+8, so he succeeds.

Next, Chrome is going to change his Nanoassisted Movement Array into Flight 2 and Charge the psychic, I guess! Trying to Grapple him. Attack is 16 + 10 + 2 = 28. If that hits, Grapple check is 8 + 21 = 29.

If possible, while grappling I'd like to nominate the plane as his Interpose target. The next attack on Air Force One should hit Chome (and hopefully the psychic as well!).

  3. The question of the egg on the table was a conundrum that continued to evolve before their eyes. As they watched, the egg of crystal shivered and separated, legs and claws and tail and head becoming distinct and uncurling from the main body. In moments the egg had returned to the shape of the dinosaur, standing on the lab table. It looked up at Terrifica and Miracle Girl, squawked at them, and then leapt down lightly to the floor. The creature retreated from the heroes, its crystal toes making tiny click-clack-click sounds on the tile as it went.

  4. Chrome gets 11 on his Toughness check, +10 makes that 21. Yikes. Uh, since it's a HP to reroll and he'll Regen the Bruise anyway, I'll say he's going to spend a HP to clear the Daze on his turn.

  5. BLINGED OUT by the Absurdist

    Chrome

    Chrome has 4 unspent PP.

    • Buying Interpose (3PP)
    • Removing Leaping 2 (5PP)
    • Spending 5 PP on Nanoassisted Movement array (0PP)
    • Reworking his Damage power to remove the Super-Strength and tone down the Penetrating, to have a Drain (Toughness) effect instead.

With these changes he should have spent all of his PP.

    Chrome

    Player Name: Raveled

    Character Name: Chrome

    Power Level: 10 (157/157)

    Trade-Offs: None

    Unspent Power Points: 0

In Brief: A sickly boy catapulted to superheroics with the help of alien nanotech.

    Alternate Identity: Warren Locke

    Identity: Secret

    Birthplace: Freedom City

    Occupation: Student

    Affiliations: Claremont Academy, AEGIS

    Family: Anthony (Father), Marie (Mother)

    Description:

    Age: 16 (DoB: September 1999)

    Gender: Male

    Ethnicity: Caucasian/Cyborg

    Height: 5' 8"

    Weight: 330 lbs

    Eyes: Brown/Yellow

    Hair: Brown/Black

Warren Locke has an appearance that would make most creatures in the galaxy scream in fear. He looks a great deal like a Communion drone; his skin is shiny metal, his eyes are a glowing, solid yellow, and his 'hair' is a collection of black threads that glow with UV light. While many Communion drones were a forceful melding of such features, Warren has the entire package. His skin is obviously not normal metal, showing off his muscles underneath and moving just like natural skin.

With his image inducer activated, Warren looks like an unremarkable, if extremely fit, young man. His hair is brown and he lets it grow out down to his collar, and his eyes are similar and bright. He's naturally incapable of growing a beard, and his skin is pale (but the inducer could be reprogrammed to change either of those facts). He is extremely well-muscled and likes to show it off with tight shirts and shorts, when the weather's appropriate.

When he's expecting trouble, Warren wears the usual Claremont uniform. He favors a tee-shirt over the longer jacket and bike shorts over the longer trousers, sometimes choosing running shoes but just as often going barefoot.

Power Descriptions: Warren Locke has been infested/augmented by an AEGIS-modified dose of Communion nanobots. They've completely infused his body down to the last cell, and this makes him stronger and tougher than most people. The nanobots have been modified to sever their connection to the Communion overmind, but they still allow Warren to mentally interface with computers and other machines. Since his bones and skin and muscles are all now a nanobot construct, he can even transform his limbs into weapons.

His image inducer is a piece of technology that Claremont routinely issues to teenagers who have a non-human appearance. He's legally bound to wear it when off the grounds, unless he's acting as a superhero

History: Warren Locke has been sick for as long as he can remember. He had developmental problems and seizures as a child, but it wasn't until he was ten that he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. It was a blessing and a curse; now the family knew what the root of the problem was they could fight it more directly, but Warren's parents had to face the fact that he was never going to magically get better, than he would probably die of the condition before they did. It was hard on their relationship, especially since Anthony was a soldier often deployed overseas, which left Marie to handle Warren's treatments and try to raise him.

Warren grew up a lot in various hospitals, spending more and more time there as he grew older and his disease progressed. The prognosis was not good and eventually the boy was spending almost all of his time in a hospital bed or a wheelchair, but he did his best to cope. When Anthony was at home it was hard for them to bond, since even something as simple as going to the movies was a medical endeavor, but they bonded over Anthony's collection of old Fifties and Sixties SF books. Father and son read yellowing paperbacks, books that were almost falling apart with age, and for a few hours Warren was a brave astronaut or doughty space explorer.

Things got easier when Anthony transferred from active duty to AEGIS and took a posting stateside. Marie and Warren moved with him from posting to posting, eventually settling in Freedom City when he was transferred to the AEGIS central office in the Federal Building. He continued to liaise between the civilian government and the experimental, superhuman exploits of AEGIS field agents, but at least he was able to be home most nights.

His job became much more hectic in late 2015 as the intergalactic menace of the Communion came to Earth. AEGIS and UNISON worked hand-in-hand, along with dozens of superheroic individuals and teams, fighting back the metallic enemy from beyond the stars; even after the Communion's overmind was destroyed the remnants of the incursion had to be collected and carefully stored away, lest they become a threat all on their own.

In this, Anthony saw a oft-dreamed for opportunity. A sample of Communion nanotech was lent to ASTRO Labs for testing. Anthony made sure as many scientists as possible were called to a meeting and hired a group of super-mercenaries to attack the lab. He was able to get his hands on a sample of altered Communion nanotech and raced to Freedom Medical Center, where Warren was being treated. He deliberately infected his son and, as his only child was overgrown with Communion metal, was taken into custody. The Communion nanobots went to work in the boy's body, forcing his disease into remission and rebuilt him. In a few days the silvery shell retreated, leaving him permanently changed and healed.

After a long conversation between his mother, AEGIS agents, ASTRO scientists, and a quiet woman in dark clothes, it was decided that he should be enrolled in Claremont Academy. The school was uniquely equipped to help Warren learn to use his new abilities -- and to contain him if he should turn out to be some kind of sleeper agent.

Personality & Motivation: Warren's an enthusiastic, earnest young man. He sincerely believes that he's been given a second chance at life and intends to take full advantage of it. He wants to see everything and travel everywhere, try a little bit of all that's around himself. Growing up with MS forced him to mature at an early age and sometimes he can seem overly serious compared to his peers, but that facade usually crumbles in minutes when he finds something else to be wide-eyed and enthusiastic about.

Warren's an army (well, Air Force) brat at heart and has an open and trusting view of the world, combined with a deep commitment to lofty ideals like Justice, Service, and Duty. He's also young enough to be naive, and sometimes the harsh realities of the world can clash disastrously with his untempered views.

Powers & Tactics: Warren is a largely untested combatant, and he favors simple tactics over elaborate battle plans. He's likely to charge straight at the biggest threat with his big claws, or stand off and blast it with his arm cannon. While he's perfectly capable of following more complex plans, he's also likely to be taken in by a villain's deception.

    Complications:

    Secret

Champion of the Communion Chrome's nanobots are Communion constructs and scan as Communion technology to anyone with advanced enough sensors. Many individuals, especially in the wider galaxy, may attack him on sight.

Complicated Relationship Warren has a... complex view of his father, the military, and the Communion. A villain could exploit this to make him unsure of himself.

Electromagnetic Disability A powerful or targeted EMP could scramble the nanobots in Warren, reducing him to a normal person. In the middle of a fight that could be deadly.

Big Eater Warren's nanobots don't create matter from nothing; while they're very efficient, a large or prolonged use of a power like Regeneration would require him to eat a big meal. Or several big meals.

Tumblr Distraction Warren is always connected to the Internet, which means he can get distracted by trivial matters at any moment.

Naive Newcomer Warren has a simple view of the world, where Good and Evil are starkly defined and in sharp contrast. A persuasive enemy could confuse him, even temporarily turn him against his allies.

  6. Chrome balanced on the airplane, dropping to put one hand on the skin of the craft as the gorilla and the pyromaniac tore into it. He gritted his teeth, feeling fear and guilt as Chapter Zero kept pummeling Air Force One. He had gotten the firecracker away from the plane, but she was apparently perfectly capable of hitting it from a good distance away. But it seemed like the gorilla, at least, didn't have a ranged weapon! Chrome charged down the length of the airplane and leapt at the last moment, striking the ape square in its hairy chest. He landed easily and took up a boxing stance. "Fasten your seatbelt, Magilla," he said. "I'm about to take you for a trip."

  7. Asli watched the room closely. The instigators -- the racists -- didn't seem inclined to make their move quite yet. Or at least, they weren't making another move as obvious as a man dropping dead on the dance floor. Her magic, sustained by an almost sub-sonic beat played through the bar's speakers, was keeping the crowd calm and at ease. She even saw a few people getting new drinks from the bar, like there was nothing at all wrong! She wondered if that was a blessing or if she should be concerned how much control she had over them...

Her eyes flicked down to Joe as he made his way through the passive crowd. Just seeing him there made her feel less overwhelmed and alone. If a fight broke out it would be good to have him there, throwing down with the other shaved heads and giving her a bit of breathing space. For now, though, she took a moment to flick responses back at him. Stay and watch. And then, indicating Aydin calmly sipping his coffee, important and protect.

  8. Chrome is going to Charge into the fight with the Gorilla. Just trying to punch him now and distract him from the plane. Oh, to have Impervious and Interpose!

    His Attack is 9 + 10 + 2 from charging = 21. If that hits, it's a DC25 Toughness save. Either way, Chrome's at -2 Def for this round.

  9. I'm almost certain that the refs won't allow you to place Sidekick into an array. That being said, I don't think you need to stat up the cloak or his assistant as separate NPCs. Unless they're going to be following along in fights and making their own actions, such a thing can probably live in Complications and story.

  10. The Freedom City book hasn't been released for 3E yet. That's one of the ones they've been teasing for awhile IIRC. I'd grab the 2E one, though, since it's what most of our stuff is based on anyway.

    • There's quite a few other magically-active PCs. I'd take a look through the Active Heroes section of the Character Bank and check out folks like Nick Cimiterie and Phantom for a primer.
    • There's Cross' Roads which is quite similar to Giles's store, but I think the city can accommodate another one if you would rather go that route.
    • PCs are not allowed to be teachers at Claremont Academy. The folks who run this board don't want PCs automatically in positions of authority over other PCs -- that's why there's no cops and why the mayor is an NPC.
  11. The Shaken wears off in one round, so Walker's out of it. Hammer gets hit by the tail and makes his grapple check; 16 + 7 = 23, a pretty good result but not good enough for here. Walker wins by 5+ and Hammer is Bound and Helpless.

  12. "Chapter Zero? The heck?" Chrome shook his head. "You think these bozos would pick a name that made them sound dangerous." He pushed off the tarmac, shining legs moving him quickly as he thumped across the space, leaving craters in his wake. He approached the plane at amazing speed and, at the last moment, pushed off the ground and leapt into a flat leap across the back of Air Force One. He was focused on the pyromancer and he hit her square on, knocking her off the plane and towards the fence line.

Chrome made a flip in the air and landed lightly on the back of the plane, balancing on the thin skin of it. "See? Chapter zero of a book weighs nothing at all, you can throw it around like no one's business. Now if this was, like, Chapter Eighty-seven, maybe you guys would have some push behind what you're doing."

  13. Quote

If you win the opposed Strength check, you push the opponent back. Read the amount by which you won the check as a rank on the Time and Value Progression Table, that’s how many feet you push the target back. So winning the check by 7 pushes your opponent back 100 feet, for example. You can’t, however, exceed your normal movement speed, so any additional distance is ignored.

I think that hits Chrome's maximum at 70 feet. Pushes Pyro off the plane, at least!

  14. Chrome's going to try and Rush the pyro standing on top of the plane. First, though, stunting off Cybernetic Enhancements.

    Enhanced Strength 22

That brings his Str up to 30, which should be +10. Then he's going to try and run at the pyro. That's going to be a Charge followed by a Rush, so he'll be at +2 ATT/-2 DEF for this round. 13+12 means 25 to attack, then opposed Str checks. His Str check is 10 + 2 for movement powers. 12+9 is a result of 21 to try and move the pyro.

  15. Okay, so then it's

    Initiative

    33 -- Blue Jay -- Uninjured -- HPx2

    22 -- Gun -- Daze, Bruisex1 -- GM

    17 -- Sword -- Daze, Uninjured -- GM

    10 -- Hammer -- Uninjured -- GM

    9 -- Sun Walker -- Uninjured -- HPx6

Gun & Sword are both out this round, so it's Hammertime. He'll try and smack Sun Walker: 8+8 is 16, which misses Walker. His Perception check is 7+4 = 11, which sees Blue Jay.

  16. Asli grabbed her jacket and followed after Joe. It was easy to follow the flow of people headed towards the windows and the fire exits. She slipped into the lady's restroom and flashed her light around. Satisfied that she was alone, Asli muttered the words of her own transformation. In moments she was once again clad in the long robe and heavy cowl she was used to. She walked directly through the door to meet Cannonade in the hallway. "We better get out there," she agreed. "We have to keep an eye out for... Out for... Excuse me."

Miras wiped her hand across her brow. The office building was already beginning to get hot and stuffy, especially the hallway. And the fact that she was wearing many pounds of cotton wasn't helping things. "Just give me a moment," she said, and then began muttering magical words under her breath. The bodysuit stayed, she considered, though patches did open in the material below her knees and on her biceps. Most of the material of her robe disappeared, leaving her with a cowl and a kaffiyeh. Her gloves disappeared up to the middle of her forearms while henna appeared to recreate the designs.

The sorceress shook out her arms, considering the new look. "There we go. Miras: Summer Spectacular edition." she winked at Cannonade. "Meet you in the lobby, lover." With that she dropped through the floor, quickly falling through the levels of office building towards the ground.

  17. Blue Jay rolled to a new position, crunching across the gravel roof. She popped up again, this time into a full firing stance. There was a bow of cerulean energy in her hands and she pulled back and loosed, again and again and again. The man with the gun was still the most obvious target so that's she was shot at, and a storm of arrows slammed into the man as he stood on the roof of the car. He gave a cry as it forced him back, the energy bolts exploding around him. His hand closed tighter to keep a grip on the weapon and there was a terrific thunderous crash as it fired, blowing a chunk out of a building's lintel.

On the street, the man with the blue mask and the hammer stared at the archer and the exploded lintel for a moment before turning to Sun Walker. "You! You two are working together, aren't you? Get out of my way, monkey brain!" He lifted up the hammer and brought it down, shattering the sidewalk but missing the simian hero.

  18. Initiative

    33 -- Blue Jay -- Uninjured -- HPx2

    22 -- Sun Walker -- Shaken, Uninjured -- HPx6

    22 -- Gun -- Daze, Bruisex1 -- GM

    17 -- Sword -- Daze, Uninjured -- GM

    10 -- Hammer -- Uninjured -- GM

Sun Walker and Gunny have the same Initiative and same Initiative modifier, but Sun Walker has the better Dex so he goes first.

Blue Jay's going to start by shooting a bunch of arrows at Gunny. She rolls a 20 to hit, so a crit, and she'll take +5 to her damage. That gives her a 35 overall which handily beats his flat-footed Def of 12, and gives her the full Autofire bonus. Total Toughness DC is 30. He rolls a 17+8 on his Toughness, so 25, so that's Daze + Bruise. Jay has to make her Stealth check again, 4+3 means it's only a DC 7 to spot her.
