  1. The four criminals who had been heading back to give backup to their fellows were suddenly dispatched in a burst of laserfire from behind them – the nonthreatening man that Barry had given the benefit of the doubt turning out to be a third vector of threat! That just left the smugglers with firearms left at the far end of the submarine, and the people inside.

The submarine itself was groaning and protesting from the damage inflicted by the Deep One, but it hadn’t yet been rendered completely inoperable. Then again, it wasn’t showing any signs of revving up, either.

Indeed, it now seemed like panic was starting to set in for the smugglers – two thirds of their numbers down in just a few seconds, it was painfully clear that the criminals were massively outclassed!

  2. Just to clarify - Victoria isn't intending to get the drugged people to wake up (they're addicts; they most likely don't want to be saved); she's intending to just manhandle two upstairs herself. If Violet and the aid worker can handle one each and Facsimile can get the last one, they should be able to get everyone upstairs and then can try to get out - preferably via a fire escape?

  3. The bottle stoppered, Victoria shoved it into the front pocket of her hoodie. Not exactly ideal, but she could see if she could find someone, somewhere to analyse this later. For now, getting it – and the people – out of here was as good as could be hoped for.

“We’ll get the people out of here first.” She said, firmly. “Worry about the rest later.”

She wasn’t in any position to dig deep right now. Outside of her uniform, with none of her equipment, she couldn’t hope to really get to the bottom of matters – common sense said that coming back under cover of proper darkness would be the more advantageous route, once the innocents were out of immediate danger.

She shot a dark look at Jon. Violet was, at least theoretically, competent to be here. Facsimile seemed to have let the complete civilian just blunder his way in with good intentions and a lack of awareness of his own limits to boot.

    Infuriating.

Still. With a little luck, they could just leave via the nearest fire escape and be out of here shortly – that was her intent, as she grabbed two of the emaciated, semi-conscious forms to try and manhandle out of there.

  4. A lot happened very quickly in a short space of time.

Almost the same instant that she took in the space, Victoria could sense the drugs attempting to find purchase on her system. She slowed her breathing as much as she could, and had begun to move towards the thug – intending to force answers out of him. By the time she got there, Facsimile had put an end to that concept. Oh well, interrogation could come later.

    “Get them upstairs.”

That was shot towards Violet, whilst she moved to take the bubbling brew off the electric heater, and see if she could find something to stopper the bottle.

  5. Victoria's brow furrowed. There was intense focus on the tasks at hand, now that LittleMissTerrific had laid out her own thoughts. As expected, they opened things up in a considerable range of new directions.

?????????: #1, Noted. It seems like the major complications are going to be in preventing retribution from abused/opportunistic gang members or potential inexperienced Super. Agreed that police presence would assist with lowering possibility of gang violence after hypnotist is removed. A prearranged signal for police to move in would be advantageous.

#2, If it is feasible to find the dealers in advance of the meet that would be the best option. Do you feel it is likely that they can be located in such a brief window? They would be brazen to store the contraband close to the meet. Would also recommend caution re: org. crime. Often bring Powered backup to dangerous situations. Does not change strategy but people should not be complacent when dealing with these groups.

#3, ‘Berserkers’ are not generally known for fleeing battle even if it does turn against them. I am curious about the nature of these individuals, but it does not feel as urgent as #1 or #2.

Overall: Content to assist with any of the above. Small preference for #2 or #3. Calming down tensions is not my forte, and I am not terribly sympathetic to gang members.

  6. “Concerned citizens.”

That was all the acknowledgement that Vicky was willing to give the other hero. A light correction, as she peered down into the newly-unveiled drug den, if indeed that was what it was. It certainly smelt like one. Her eyes narrowed as she scrutinised the darkness. She wasn’t so sure she liked that smell. There were a lot of variables here she didn’t have a handle on yet, and bringing an unknown superhuman into the mix seemed dangerous, at best. On the other hand, she couldn’t exactly turn him away; they didn’t have time for the argument that it would no doubt cause.

“Stay close and keep your guard up. We don’t want to wind up like her.”

And with that curt piece of advice offered, she slid down through the trapdoor. Because when your head is in the lion’s mouth, sometimes, you need to shove your arm down its throat to survive.

  7. The sudden arrival of a second Super on the scene causes some fairly obvious panic. The four thugs that Miracle Girl handily dispatches do try to put up a fight, but they are hopelessly outclassed and that is obvious.

Nevertheless, they manage to hold their nerve. The four men with guns level them at Miracle Girl and the Sea Devil that has so suddenly intruded on their work, and open fire with everything they have! Bullets ricochet in a mad spattering dance as the cave is suddenly filled with the raucous racket of automatic weaponry.

“… Geez, these guys really want their paycheck.”

That, muttered by the cyborg, was the only thing he had to say to the display before suddenly vaulting and leaping down the hatch through which he had just emerged.

  8. “Stay calm.”

Victoria was trying hard not to get frustrated with the other Guardian. She’d just nearly had her face clawed off, and had put down something that had once been a living person. Violet’s eagerness was grating.

She noted the trumpet case, but she agreed that the trapdoor was a far more important avenue of investigation. Cursing herself for leaving all her gear behind, she used a bent paperclip to fiddle with the lock, trying to remember how those tutorials she’d looked up went. She really needed to practice on this.

Finally, there was a ‘click’, and the lock came away.

    “Be ready.”

Because last time they opened a door, there was deadly danger behind it – this time, at least they’d be prepared.

  9. I have made mention of the fact that Victoria hasn't brought her costume - which has the utility belt in which she stores the majority of her gear. I'm therefore going to say it isn't reasonable (in my mind) for her to have her multi-tool with her either.

Could she have found a paperclip she can use to attempt to pick the rusty lock?

  10. “Maybe.”

Victoria was as characteristically forthcoming as always; as dour and introverted as her partner was outgoing. She turned around what she knew in her head. There was definitely something going on here, but beyond supposition and conjecture, they didn’t have much to go off. A supposed acrimonious split between the trumpet-player and the band. A dead woman with a drive to kill.

They were missing the motive, here. The end goal.

She moved quickly and efficiently around the outside of the room, working methodically to search for anything out of place; any notes or other clues that might be waiting to shed some light on this mystery.

  11. “WHAT THE –”

The cyborg’s shout of surprise was less-than-dignified, but to their credit, the seafaring folk are clearly hardier than most ‘Surface Men’ would be.

“Hang on a moment.” Said one of the women, “Did that monster just assume we’re all guys?”

“I think it did!” Shouted back one of her companions, with a menacing BRMMMMMM of laser light suddenly thrumming from their advanced-looking weapon, “Get it!”

What followed was an intense burst of bright red and blue beams of energy as four rifles opened up on Aquaria, lances of light punching holes in the stone walls of the cavern and scorching away ancient rock. Not one of the lasers actually came close to touching her, though.

“TO THE LEFT YOU IDIOT! NO, YOUR OTHER LEFT, UGH, JUST LET ME DO IT!”

Naturally, all of this was very loud. The echoing cavern was suddenly filled with the sound of laserfire, and Barry looked over his shoulder with wide eyes. His gun followed, swivelling away from Diamondlight.

“Yeah, yeah. Navy. That’s us. Navy. You, you should get outta here, fella, before you get yourself in trouble.”

It… seemed like Barry had completely fallen for Diamondlight’s act, even if he wasn’t a good enough actor in turn to even try and act the part of a naval officer. Instead, he starts running back towards the three men coming to help him out – because now there’s clearly something going on behind them, and chaos is starting to rein supreme. Hey, on the plus side, Diamondlight is being completely ignored!
