Chase Ryder is a stylish young man of average height, with a slim, yet athletic build, hair cut in a high fade, with a carefully manicured short beard that fills out his narrow jawline.  In his role as the COO of Ryder Medical, he typically wears slim, tailored suits, and Italian leather dress shoes, though he often donates his time at [Freedom City Hospital] and is as likely to be in scrubs while giving a consultation or preparing for surgery.  However, despite his meticulous grooming, the feature that most people recall upon meeting Chase for the 1st time, is the wheelchair he requires to maneuver through his day to day life.  However, the young man is extremely strong willed, and while he was a soft spoken young man, he is much more forceful now, in that he attempts to overcome that first impression through charisma and conversation.

While in the Exo Suit, Vector is slightly taller, standing at just over 1.85 meters due to the Exo-frame's structural design.  The suit itself enhances Chase's slim athletic build, with it's aerodynamic design, and both incredibly light and flexible due to it's carbon nanotube construction.  A high gloss polarized face plate and digitized voice modulator protect Ryder's identity during any interactions as Vector.  The exo-suit is constructed of protective layer of flexible gun metal grey alloys, with a matte black titanium shell protecting the joints from the rigors of the frame's trans sonic speeds.  Thick cabling enhances the wearer's muscles and ligaments, extending from the base of the helmet, where it plugs into the wearers DNI socket, coiling across the shoulder, and the triceps, before crossing over into the interior of the bicep and forearm before terminating at the wearer's, where it again interfaces with the wearer's sockets.  That same cabling also extends down either side of the spine, before coiling across the exterior of the wearer's quad muscles, coming across the patella, or knee, and travelling down the interior of the calve muscles, before, once again, terminating at the DNI socket located on the interior of the ankle.

Power Descriptions:

The source of Chase's abilities are, in essence two fold.  First, he pioneered the development of a Direct Neural Interface, which allows for direct neurological control of prosthetic limbs and devices.  However, upon being contracted by AEGIS to analyze the construction of an exosuit, he deduced that his DNI would allow the wearer to utilized the unit's abilities to their fullest potential.  As such, he implanted a full set of DNI implants using his companies automated surgical theater, overseeing the procedure directly.  The implants are located at the base of his skull, the interior of both wrists, the base of his spine, and his ankles.  The sockets themselves are a silver-grey, with a matte black finish.  When not in use each socket is protected by a flesh colored silicon plug, making detection of his implants difficult to notice.  He is able to utilize the plug at the base of his skull to interface with various electronic devices and computer networks, by connecting a thin fiber optic cable from the DNI socket to any available I/O port on the device.

The second, much more obvious source of his abilities is the exo-suit itself, which has gone through several modifications and iterations to it's current state.  The High Velocity Exo Suit was provided to RMR&E to determine it's function and control interface, upon discovering his own interface would allow a wearer to interface with the suit, faced with the possibility of overcoming his paraplegia, he became obsessed with the suit, undergoing the procedure to implant him with an advanced version of his own Direct Neural Interface.  Once complete, he was able to control the suit, regaining full mobility; he quickly discovered that the suit enhanced it's wearer's speed and neural response exponentially.  The suit itself, owing to it's advanced construction is very durable, and able to withstand impact that would cripple or kill an unprotected civilian, while at the same time enhancing the wearer's strength to near superhuman levels, which coupled with an exponential increase in reaction time, make the exo suit a very dangerous opponent to when engaged at melee range.  Equipped with advanced optics, and a polarized face plate to protect the wearer's vision, the suit provides a 360° field of view, 10x magnification, and multi-spectrum night vision, the wearer is able to react to any incoming threat, obstacle, or changes in environment with sufficient warning to allow their enhanced reflexes to compensate.  Chase quickly discovered that he was able to perform gravity defying feats at trans sonic speeds, such as maintaining speed while traversing vertical surfaces, or even across water, by re-calibrating internal systems, he can also accelerate his response time resulting in movements that occur faster than the human eye can track.

History:
(Please remember we are a relatively family friendly site. Your story should be PG-13 at most. If your character wouldn't fit in an episode of Justice League Unlimited, The Dresden Files, or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, please rethink it.)

Personality & Motivation:

Powers & Tactics:

Complications:

  • Disability: Paraplegia: Chase suffered a severe spinal cord injury during the car accident which cost the Ryder siblings their parent's lives. The injury resulted in complete paraplegia, meaning that the younger Ryder brother lost the use of his legs entirely, and therefore requires the use of a wheelchair to overcome his mobility and accessibility issues. Chase has learned to live with and overcome his physical condition, and does not allow it to define him. However, in certain social situations he can still become resentful of the awkwardness others feel around him, due to his physical condition, as he prides himself on self reliance.
  • Identity: Chase Ryder: Chase Ryder has maintains a clear distinction between his civilian and heroic identity. The fact that the Exosuit allows Chase the full use of his legs, further helps to conceal his identity, as many people choose to define Chase by his disability rather than his other attributes. His older sister, Jacquelyn, is aware of his dual identity, though as a protective older sibling, Jacquelyn sometimes fears for her brother's safety. However, at Chase's request, she has yet to share his secret with anyone, including Rowan Schofield, her own husband.
  • Motivation: Thrills: Chase has dedicated his life to assisting those who suffer from physical disabilities, developing a direct neural implant, which can allow those who require prosthetic limbs to utilize them with greater efficiency, . Upon modifying the Exosuit with a similar device, he can function in a way that surpasses normal physical movement by an exponential degree. He revels in his new found mobility, and while he understands he has a certain responsibility to use the suit in a manner which benefits others, he enjoys pushing the envelope, employing his newfound speed in unique and creative ways.
  • Relationship: Jacquelyn Schofield-Ryder & Family: After the loss of their parents, the Ryder siblings formed a close bond. Jacquelyn supported her brother's vision of medical innovation, and together they formed the Ryder Medical Group, both as an homage to their parent's work, and to assist those seeking to overcome their own physical disabilities, through the innovative use of medical, therapeutic and prosthetic equipment. The two siblings work closely together, and share many secrets, Chase's passionate and innovative nature tempered by his older sister's cautious, and responsible demeanor.  Chase has also come to both love and respect his sister's husband, Rowan Schofield, as a brother, as well as their two daughters, Courtney and Kelsey. Rowan specifically seeks to temper his wife's doting nature, recognizing Chase's desire for independence and self reliance. Chase himself, absolutely adores his role as the beloved uncle for his two nieces, and thoroughly enjoys the weekly dinners he spends with his sister's family.
  • Responsibility: Ryder Medical Research, LLC: With the aid of the trust fund that had been established on their parents death, the Ryder's have invested heavily in RMR&E, and have limited liquid assets. While the company is operating in the black, currently, it is often due to Jacquelyn's more financially responsible counselling, as compared to Chase's more passionate philanthropic tendencies. To ensure that the company remains solvent, Chase must often put in long hours, or make appearances at medical conferences, or, at times, both. As such, his responsibility to the company can often interfere with his activities as Vector.
  • Weakness: Gravitic Effects: The Exosuit is meant to operate at Earth standard gravity, and as such, should he encounter situations in which he is exposed to High Gravity Environments or effects, he must work strenuously, taxing the suits internal power source, to operate efficiently. When exposed to any effect with the Gravity descriptor, he must make a Fortitude Check vs a DC equal to 10+ the Effect's Rank vs Fatigued, Exhausted. He can spend a Hero Point to forgo this check, but he must do so each round of exposure.
