  1. Man. I'm so bad at this.

Now we're at the part where things will probably get physical. What we have here is 4 Thugs (M&M Core, p229), and Frank "the Riveter" Mazziari.

For a quick ref on the Riveter (who I will likely make a real NPC entry for soon):

    Att +10, Def +10, Tough +10, Fort +12, Ref +7, Will +7, Init +2, Grapple +22

    Skills: Intimidate 10 (+10), Notice 7 (+7), Search 7 (+7), Sense Motive 8 (+8)

Of course, Crusader and Mess are still very much out of sight so.... um... ...yeah. Gonna have to work some of this out IC. :P

  2. GM

For several moments, Crusader said nothing. He didn't make a sound, not even a grunt of acknowledgment in response. Instead, his eyes were fixed on the five men rummaging around below them. In the silence, one could practically hear the leather of his gloves creak from Crusader's hand tightening around the strap holding his shield to his arm.

There was no warning when Crusader climbed up onto the railing separating the top of the stairs from everything else--his intentions were clear, and it didn't seem that he was going to ask for advice or permission.

  3. Oh, right; i don't know why I thought that roll was a standard action. *facepalm*

Arcturus is going to use his free action, then, to shift back into bear form. And then... he's gonna punch the cult leader square in the face. Instead of actively intimidating chase, Arc will just perform a coup de grace on the cult leader as a full round action, since he's helpless.

    Modifying IC post accordingly!

  4. "I'll explain when there's not claws and chainsaws flying everywhere," Marcus blurted, drawing his huge hand from the tunnel wall. There wasn't a whole lot he could do once Terra Pugnum was cast, leaving him free to fully assess what was happening.

And there was a lot happening.

His magic had stirred Gauntlet. It was another mistake in a string of mishaps that was beginning to grate heavily on the bear's rapidly deteriorating nerves. Before he could actually do anything else, the sound of the chainsaw's sudden and abrupt cease hit his ears; the scent of oil and blood were hard not to notice. All at once, the entire situation invaded his senses, overriding the Beast Rune's influence just long enough to jolt Marcus out of his beast form, barely resisting the urge to revisit his last meal. On the bright side, now he couldn't see the body.

On top of everything else, he could feel the magic of the spell he cast weakening; in the dim light of the tunnel, he saw the cult leader change forms--again. It was something he hadn't yet learned to do, not without a significant amount of effort.

Now is NOT the time to be impressed. Steeling his resolve, Marcus shifted back into his bear form, ignoring the threat in favor of aiming a furry-knuckled fist right in the cult leader's face to fix that sinister grin.

In the meantime, Marcus was still concerned with where Detective Chance's priorities were. Cult or not, that really was the main reason he was there, after all, but there was no way he could be fast enough to get by all the obstacles in his way unless he did something particularly drastic. If it was powerful enough to kickstart Gauntlet, then it certainly shouldn't have been in the hands of someone like Chance. "As for you... drop the statue, lady." Marcus straightened up a little, ignoring the fact that just moments earlier he nearly vomited. In reality he still felt like doing so, but he wasn't about to lose his composure now.

  5. 1d20+14=21

Well, he failed that roll. Turns out, Arc has the Fearless feat, so he can't be intimidated. Heh. :D

If it's alright with you, I'll play the whole chainsaw mishap as if it made Arc fail a Concentration check, putting him in normal form for the round.

And throwing out an Intimidate attempt on Detective Chance: 1d20+7=27

  6. At first, shifting seemed like a bad idea--he hadn't considered it fully, and suddenly he felt a lot more cramped. The sound of revving chainsaws didn't exactly help, either. Marcus quickly realized, however, that he wasn't going to be able to see without his bear senses.

Marcus swung his hand and his palm slammed against the side of the tunnel, the Earth rune glowing bright yellow against the back of his hand. His claws dug into the wall and yellow lines streaked across the tunnel wall, bursting outward in the form of a giant hand aimed to grab the newly transformed cult leader.

  7. Okay, so here's what we're going to try...

Right off, Arc is going to use a Hero Point to stunt off of his Enhanced Strength, using this:

Snare 10 (Extras: Constricting; Flaws: Limited [natural earth/stone]) (Terra Pugnum, magic) [10PP]

...creating an earthen fist to try and grab the cultist leader.

    1d20+8=21

  8. All he could do was wait.

That was fine, really, though Marcus really wasn't always the patient type. At least in this instance, he knew he didn't have much choice; they had just walked into what was ostensibly someone else's home. Though he didn't go further inside than necessary, he did wonder about the fact that getting in was relatively easy. He didn't feel secure at all, and he visibly tensed, resisting the urge to shift forms again. He realized just how vulnerable he felt without his bear senses to fall back on.

The best he could do was stay on his guard, edging forward a little bit as Elias concentrated on the task at hand.

  9. Marcus's expression when the word 'armor' was mentioned went blank.

    ...nah, it couldn't be...

Rage washed over him. More than anything, he was angry at himself for being so stupid. Marcus knew what they had found--he had, after all, been the one to discard it. He tried to neutralize it, tried to seal it... One day he tossed it and didn't think anything of it afterward. He wasn't sure what he was thinking when he did it. There had been so much going on at the time that he'd forgotten all about it.

Before he could say anything about it, Amy spoke up; from there, the situation rapidly began to deteriorate. The prodding of the Beast Rune became a dull, constant throbbing in his head as he turned to face her. Marcus's gaze turned to Goodman and Lucy for a brief moment; he almost looked apologetic.

"...this is about to get weird. Just warning you."

From there, the Beast Rune flared to life on his back, filling its host with magical energy. Thankfully, most of his transformation was cloaked in darkness, but it was hard to miss the flashes of eldritch light lancing off of his ever-growing form.

  10. Marcus started to speak again, but Lucy spoke up. He was actually relieved that she did; he was well aware that the Cult of the Beast Rune often made him act irrationally, and this time was no different. Hers was a more diplomatic approach, and it helped to curb the urge to tear everything down by hand.

Down in the tunnel, he couldn't see much--the flashlight helped, but untransformed, Marcus's vision was unremarkable. "Don't you think you should've called a professional? An archeologist or something?" He paused, frowning as the sudden whiff of magical energy hit his nose. He couldn't pinpoint exactly what sort of magic it was, but just knowing that it was there was enough to cement Marcus's suspicions. Between that and the rather haphazard way the tunnel had been dug out, a cave-in was a possibility. It wasn't imminent, but he was certainly going to have to be careful.

"...these associates will cast you aside the second they get a chance," he mentioned in a harsh whisper, rolling up his sleeves as if preparing for a fight.

  11. "...wait."

Marcus paused, halting his verbal rampage. Did he really not know who was taking advantage of him? He shook his head, looking pointedly at Gordon.

"...you're really in over your head. Whatever you think you're doing, whatever you think you've got here, someone wants it badly. Someone dangerous." He looked at Teddy. "And you? Don't move."

Looking back at Gordon, Marcus gave a nonchalant shrug. "It seems like he knows a lot more than you do."

  12. His outrage fell on deaf ears. Marcus strode in with a very visible confidence and swagger, shoving Teddy forward towards Goodman. "I believe this belongs to you, Tex."

Marcus noted the presence of the other two, acknowledging their presences with a glance before turning his attention back towards Mr. Goodman. "I don't know what you're digging for here, but I know who you're doing it for. And it's gonna stop. That's not a threat; that's a statement of fact. Given who you're in business with... consider it an act of goodwill."
