  1. Fulcrum sighed and slid a hand down her face. She stared scowling at the ground for a few moments, eyes flicking about intensely as she listened to Avenger. The fellow did have a tremendous charisma despite his appearance. From her body language, he had affected her thinking on what bothered her. Particularly the mention of Centurion, which had caused her to tense up.

    When she looked back up, a neutral expression crossed her face and the stress eased. Several deliberate strides brought her up to Phantom. Knowing time was of the essence, Fulcrum gazed down at her for but a moment before kneeling down to eye level. She offered a handshake to the mystical hero.

    "You believe in them, and I believe in you. Let's buy them as much time as we can," she spoke, nodding, "My name is Fulcrum. Pleasure to meet you."

    DC 10: A blue, gold and white clad super heroine named Fulcrum appeared in Freedom City in early November 2009. Sightings suggest she is a giant or has the ability to increase her size.

    DC 15: Fulcrum possesses immense strength, nigh invulnerability, the ability to fly and stands over eight feet in height. She has been sighted in major U.S. cities, including Chicago, Denver, New York and Seattle, and began using the name Fulcrum in late 2008. Fulcrum is known as a fair and protective hero that doesn't enjoy the limelight.

    DC 20: Her real name is Mona Teymourian, a Freedom City native that survived the Terminus Invasion and developed powers about four years ago. She currently resides in Riverside and works as an artist. As Fulcrum she is inspired by her hero, Centurion, and seeks to protect the world as he did, going so far as to adopt a similar costume.

    DC 25: Fulcrum deliberately adopted Centurion's colors for the purpose of honoring the fallen hero and not to capitalize on his reputation. She has always sported a white cape similar to Centurion's because it was his cape. The cape was lost during the battle with Omega and vanished despite heroic efforts by AEGIS to recover it.

    DC 30: The cape drifted into her window four years ago and has some connection with the development of her powers. Fulcrum wonders if she has a destiny to take Centurion's place as guardian of the earth or some other cosmic fate. Doubts still nag her that she will be unable to uphold the mantle or gain acceptance in the community.

    DC 10: Fulcrum's civilian identity is Mona Teymourian, an artist living in Riverside and frequenting galleries and shops.

    DC 15: Mona is an up-and-coming artist working in comic illustration, painting and graphic design. Stephanie Robins is her pseudonym for fine arts and non-profit work, and Cricket is her pseudonym for her commercial and comic illustrations. Her style is described as cartoony and expressive, her formal pieces as original and striking.

    DC 20: Mona particularly enjoys super hero comics illustration and commissions for non-profit groups. She would like to build a relationship with Castle Comics. Other patrons include The Rhodes Foundation, The Super Museum, Fun-Time Toys and various public and private parties. Sculpture has caught her attention of late and she would like to study under Raul Diaz.

    DC 10: Fulcrum began wearing a gold and blue costume after moving to Freedom City. Her previous costumes all used the same white cape.

    DC 15: Her costume is based on the one worn by Centurion. She designed it herself and had it manufactured of morphic molecules by Dr. Atom in a Chicago satellite lab. She kept her original cape.

    DC 20: Some quietly speculate as to where she obtained the cape. The design is identical to Centurion's own, as his was lost during the Terminus Invasion and Fulcrum's cape seems unusually sturdy for non-morphic molecule manufacturing.

    DC 25: Careful examination of the cape's twin blue stripes reveals a small error in the blue printing. The smudge is minute and little known outside of super hero historians and obsessive fans. Either Fulcrum has an exact replica of Centurion's cape or the genuine article.

    DC 10: The subject likely demonstrates many of the classic traits of the airborne metahuman: superior strength, immunity to environmental conditions and disease and resistance to most forms of small arms fire.

    DC 15: Classic traits have been confirmed by field observation. Mild regeneration has also been demonstrated by the subject and continues to develop. Exposure to Variant Terminus Energies (VTEs) during the Invasion suggests a cosmic power source.

    DC 20: Cosmic energy does empower the subject, although certain traits, such as strength and size, are baseline. Upper limits of power development may reach Omega Level. Variant power development unknown.

    DC 25: Subject possibly included in the phenomenon known as 'Terminus babies' despite being 12 years old during Invasion. Cosmic energy appears to emanate from subject, a reversal of standard metahuman absorption and storage of Ambient Native Cosmic Energy (ANCE). Resonance studies suggest energy emanations match frequencies of absorption for so-called 'daka' crystals.

    DC 30: Subject radiates VTEs that match those recorded during Omega's attack on Freedom City. Furthermore, cosmic radiation ejected by subject demonstrates identical space-time warping effects.   3. "Come on, Mom, answer the phone...come on...," said a frantic Fulcrum as she zoomed over the city. No one was answering, and when the ring ended abruptly, a high-pitched, gurgling shriek replaced it. Her dark complexion drained a few shades as she stared in horror at the phone.

    Useless phone replaced in her pocket, the over-sized flyer ramped up her speed but came to a sudden halt. A battle over Pramas Bridge was well under way, but from her vantage point, not everything was visible. Flashes of energy sparkled in the distance and the small forms of citizens huddled against one side. A flying ship of some sort hovered above the action as...flying monkey demons...swooped at it.

    The city was going to hell in a hand basket. Her twin duties, family and Freedom City, tore her in opposite directions. What would her mother say if she was here? Biting her lip and looking to the west, Fulcrum made a decision and turned toward the bridge, diving toward it from the northbound lanes.

    A sudden fear overcame her, the nagging fear that she would never she her parents or sister again.

  4. Fulcrum took in the scene before her. Considering what the city had become, she looked relieved to be around anyone normal. Well, normal was relative, considering the blood drenched man in black and the shadow man and the green-haired heroine...ah forget it. She was just happy to be around anyone other than demons. If only she had time for a proper introduction. A small smile crept over her face, but before she could say anything else, Dark Star spoke up and she simply nodded her thanks.

    When Ace appeared, Fulcrum listened intently. A confused, more like a perplexed look, clearly indicated that she knew very little of which they were speaking. Still some of it seemed digestible. She scowled at the thought of shifting the mansion 'into the void' and approached closer to the group, raising a hand. Realizing how dirty the glove was, she pulled them off and crossed her arms.

    "Pardon my interruption, but why would we want to bring down this barrier? Shouldn't we be looking for a way to reverse this disaster or whatever it is?" Taking a deep breath, she looked every gathered person in the eye, "Or has that option already failed? What the hell is going on anyway?"

    Her gaze turned to the mansion, steely resolve intermixed with frustration in her voice, "If they're willing to fight, then they and we deserve better than a last stand. We have to do something."

  5. Following on the heels of the latest arrivals came another surprise.

    Bowling over each other, smaller demons at the front grounds shrieked and scrambled in opposite directions. They weren't fast enough to evade the source of their desperate flight. The battered shell of a metal cargo container plowed lengthwise through their ranks. Many smashed against the barrier with a satisfying crunch, and the container slid to a halt on the main drive.

    Stepping around the box came Fulcrum, dressed in her blue, gold and white costume. Not that much was visible under the caked layers of grim and blood. She, like many of the other arrivals, looked to have been in one hell of a fight. Twisting off the makeshift lock, Fulcrum pitched the metal bar at the nearest demon and sent it flying with a clock to the head.

    "More where that came from you horned freaks!" spit the hero. The conviction was there, but the voice still sounded weary.

    After glancing inside, Fulcrum dragged the container up towards the mansion and began unloading a motley collection of shell-shocked survivors. Once they were safely inside, she leaned heavily against the box, sighed and looked around at the gathered heroes. Considering the day's battles, she didn't seem too shocked by their appearances.

    "Glad to be here. To whom do I owe this...safe zone?" she asked while catching her breath. No slashes or bruises were visible over the stains. She just looked tired. Tired.

    Yeah, trying for the noble and heroic side...hopefully with a minimum of the "stupidly so". ;)

  7. Hi everyone,

    I'll be playing one of your local flying bricks, Fulcrum. I'm looking forward to playing with each of you and hopefully getting the hang of things quickly. As such this is a general shout out. I've started a, for now, low-key meet-and-greet thread: Painting the Town

    Should be a good starter. I'm also in the market for a bigger and flashier entrance. Something more paragon-ish. I'm leery of running combat myself, but if anyone has an idea or open spot, I'm interested. Still checking out all the active threads.

    Fulcrum is a Silver/Modern Age Superman-type character. She's trying to fill Centurion's boots, and that's tough one on many fronts. I'm hoping to utilize that for a rich roleplay experience with other characters as well as some crunching combat against some classic villains. Looking to do some team building too. Anyone in the market for a super strong warrior woman? Invisible jet not included.

    Clouds rolled overhead, painting puffs of shadow over the cool morning. The accompanying breeze rustled the last few dry leaves clinging to the sleeping trees. Gulls screeched in the distance as a giant made her way through Riverside Park. Mona Teymourian, better known as Fulcrum, strolled along at no particular pace. A patch of gold glittered under a long coat and apron, a rectangular box and easel tucked under one arm. Running alongside her came a gray cat, an one-eyed and scruffy specimen.

    Every once in a while, the giant would stop and glance up at the Sentry Statue. She wasn't exactly ignoring anyone either, nodding and smiling to the people who passed. Most simply returned the greeting and continued on, looking back at her as she did to the statue. Finally selecting a spot, Fulcrum sat down in the grass off a walking path. The southerly position gave her a clear view of the statue's back and left profile, which seemed to be her focus. Methodically, she sat up her easel and prepared her pigments. The cat flopped down in the grass.

    "Okay, Archimedes. I'll be here a while, so get comfortable," she mumbled while sketching, "Beautiful morning, isn't it?"

  10. Definitely, I'm willing to accept the possibility of severe incapacitation. I wanted to incorporate, frankly, a Achille's Heel/Superman-ish weakness into the character for flavor. Having the weakness show up will be part of the fun of the character's roleplay, even if mechanically pain will result. As long as we don't drift into crazy-multi-colored-kryptonite territory, I'll be happy. I figured daka crystals would be rare enough to warrant a severe reaction when they did show up. Plus the idea of tainted daka crystals has all sorts of adventure possibilities.

    If the weakness is unsuitable, I can certainly change or remove it. I have a variant build that does not have the weakness.

    She really rocks her costume though. Looks like a full body racing suit, including stylin' gloves and sturdy boots. The base color is a deep blue, a gold wedge runs from the shoulders down and a long, white cape with two blue stripes at the bottom completes the look. A blue bar balanced on a triangle is centered on the chest. A white cape, much like Centurion's, completes the look.


    History:
    Summary: As Centurion drew his last breath, 12 year old Mona did likewise. She died only to return to life transformed. 14 years later the swift and superhuman giant donned Centurion's lost cape, becoming Fulcrum, The Eternal Balance!

    Heroes' Knoll, 14 September 2009, 11 pm

    A caped figure descended slowly into the Knoll. The hero hovered at eye level with Centurion's statue and then landed. After a minute of hesitation, she spoke.

    "Hello, Mr Cen...Centurion. My name is Mona Teymourian. I was the little girl you visited at the Children's Ward. That was the same day as the Terminus Invasion. Good to see you again."

    "I remember meeting you like it was yesterday. My mom said the Freedom Children's Foundation had responded to my wish, but I thought she meant you autographed a picture or something. I didn't expect a visit. You are...were...such a busy hero, saving the world and all. You looked so confident and powerful when you came around the curtain! I could have died right then and there."

    She smiled and looked at the plaque, "You were my hero. When I was little, I wanted so much to be your sidekick. I'd put on my homemade cape and 'fly' around the backyard, pretending I was Centuri-Girl or Latin Lass, flying alongside you into danger and adventure. Saturdays mornings always started with Freedom Friends. Comic books, newspaper clippings, posters, Centurion pajamas. Mom always hated those pajamas. She thought Lady Liberty was a better role model. And you wouldn't believe the crush I had on you as a teenager. Movie stars had nothing on you."

    "I just wanted to fly. To feel the ground drop out beneath me, escape gravity and soar into the clouds. I remember asking you how flying felt. You said, 'Flying feels like being free, like a bird.' And you know, you're absolutely right. But the doctor said I was too frail. Sitting on your arm while you hovered was definitely the next best thing. I still have those pictures, both of us smiling. Looking at them now, you seemed sad. Wistful even. Why were you sad? I suppose I'll never know."

    "I remember the battle too. The Omegadrones were everywhere. So where heroes. More than I had ever seen together. Then buildings started to fall like dominoes. You were battling Omega. He looked like the End of the World. I was so scared. Where you scared, Centurion? I watched you land that one perfect punch. I watched you split his armor open," Tears welled in the blue and gold clad hero's eyes, "I watched you fall to the street. I couldn't believe it. You were Centurion. You were invincible."

    "Listen to me ramble," she mumbled. Unfastening the white cape, she pulled it into her arms reverently, "The reason I came here. When you broke Omega, I saw this...shock wave of energy from the point of impact. The energy swirled with crackling white and roiling black, like lightning and perfect stillness tumbling together. Knocked me to the ground, washed over me, through me. No one else saw it apparently. No one believed me," she stopped, collecting her thoughts.

    "I died during the Invasion too, when you died. I got one good look at you and collapsed. The doctors said the chemo and stress were too much for me. But I came back. I heard your voice in the dark, and came back. But something else happened. I came back different. Grew up big and strong and fast and hopelessly infatuated with The Champion of Freedom. I became like you," she sniffed. Floating up, she draped the cape over the statue's hands atop the sword.

    "On the 13th anniversary, a sheet drifted into my apartment window. Well, I thought it was a sheet, until I saw the twin, blue stripes along the bottom. I just knew. I planned on sending it to the Super Museum, but I couldn't help but try it on once. I hope you can forgive the indulgence. Then this urge overtook me. I stepped outside and...lifted off. I don't know how long I flew, but I soared through the clouds and felt like I touched the face of forever."

    "For a while, I was arrogant enough to think it chose me. As if the cape itself was looking for a successor. I never worked so hard in my life. At one point I started lifting industrial equipment for strength training. It was if I had a new lease on life, after the Invasion, and putting on your cape unlocked the rest of my potential. Whether psychologically or physically, I can't say. Every day I seemed more powerful. I continued growing too. Yeah, I'm now an eight foot amazon. I decided, for a lot of reasons, to follow in your footsteps. I took the name Fulcrum, after your words and as a means of balance in the world."

    She sighed and looked down. "I don't have what it takes to be a hero. Not like you. No one can live up to you. White Knight is a pig, but I honestly didn't think being a hero would be this difficult. That guy nearly killed me. In some ways, I understand your courage to stand up against Omega. I don't have that kind of willpower, that dedication. Guess I failed my biggest test."

    "I don't know why I'm telling you all of this. Maybe its my confession, for good or bad. Thank you. For being a hero. Thank you for letting me use you cape, Centurion. I tried."

    Fulcrum landed and walked away from the statue. A gust came up, rustling the still night air. The cape drifted off the statue and down onto her. Pulling it off her head, she turned and stared at the statue's face. The policewoman, standing among the other statues, flipped on her flashlight.

    "You do. Don't try to be Centurion. Be yourself."

    The shocked look slowly morphed into a grin. Re-clasping the cape, Fulcrum turned to the officer, "I will. Thank you."

    Smiling to the statue one last time, Fulcrum launched into the night, flying as high and fast as she could.

    Personality & Motivation:
    Laconic, mellow, introspective, confident, ironic, thoughtful, introverted. Fulcrum is an old soul, just does her own thing, live and let live, trying for a fulfilling and meaningful life. Learning is important, as is doing. She likes a good scrap, a good meal and a good lover. Slow to anger and a force of nature when enraged. Loves making a difference for people and stands up for that which she believes. She's fallible as everyone else, and in the end, respects herself the more for it. Earn her loyalty and you'll have a friend for life. Oh yeah, she can be stubborn as a mule too.

    She truly wants to follow in Centurion's footsteps. Being a direct legacy is irrelevant. Its what he stood for that matters. Doing the right thing matters. Plus she feels the calling in her bones. As if protecting this world, this universe, is her destiny and her duty. "Freedom is worth the fight."

    Powers & Tactics:
    Fulcrum is a powerful being and her tactics are recklessly straightforward. She faces off with the biggest foe, pummeling or strafing it at supersonic speeds. She utilizes her super strength and immunities to gain advantages, particularly by grappling, throwing or exposing foes to harsh environments. Against numerous foes, staying airborne and sweeping across the lines with heavy objects is common as well as utilizing her powerful freeze and sonic attacks. Unless something important is threatened, she has the common sense to retreat or keep an opponent at bay.
     



    Complications:
    Enemy: White Knight. Fulcrum has twice brawled with White Knight. She won both outings. Naturally, he still hates her guts.

    Fame: An eight foot giant is hard to miss, so Mona lives openly as Fulcrum. Additionally, she is unofficially working as a Centurion legacy, which puts her every move under scrutiny.

    Honor: Seek peace. Keep your word. Support just laws. Support the common good. Live with compassion, courage, virtue and wisdom.

    Power Dampers: Fulcrum wears sturdy power dampers that absorb her energy emissions. They are disguised as bracelets and anklets and are quite durable. Nonetheless, damaging, disabling or destroying these devices will cause her Terminus Radiation complication to come into effect.

    Prejudice: Iranian, female, bohemian, artist, feminist: take your pick of issues minor or major.
     

    The Big One: Centurion legacy. Mona is trying to follow in Centurion's footsteps, a little too much for some peoples' liking.

    Responsibility:
    Family. Her extended family lives in the West End of Freedom City. Heaven help anyone, particularly a maniacal supervillian, that threatens them.
    Freedom City. Centurion protected the entire world, but for many years Freedom City was his 'home' turf. For this reason and her own love, she is protective of the city and its people.
    Interceptors. They're her second family. Do the math.
    Viktor Archeville. Like her family, Mona is very attached to her boyfriend and will fight fiercely to protect him.

    Terminus Radiation:
    Fulcrum is a liminal being: a Terminus hybrid organism acclimated to conditions within the multiverse. Her physiology is fundamentally alien, and mimicked traits (pigmentation, heart rhythm, etc.) left over from her slow transformation allow her a 'normal' physical appearance. Microscopic and molecular studies suggest a homogenous, non-cellular biochemical structure unrelated to Terran life. Her metabolism consumes localized matter and energy (particularly cosmic energy) to power and maintain her body. The waste product is a low-energy cosmic energy, compatible with Terminus radiation, which emanates from her at all times. This radiation is typically invisible to the unaided eye; however, individuals with the proper detection equipment can visualize the energy as a shimmering, black aura with some characteristics similar to normal cosmic energy. This Terminus radiation has been described as 'malignant' given its propensity to induce severe alterations in the surrounding environment. Emission rates spike during strenuous physical activity.

    Long-term exposure examples: Disease, mutation, healing/injury, super powers, power modifications, dimensional rifts, warping reality, powering devices/beings, other unusual properties, etc. Using Extra Effort or similar exertion releases a large quantity of energy, potentially causing immediate effects similar to long-term exposure.

    Hello!

    I'm a 27 year-old pathology and autopsy assistant currently residing in Flyover Country (Kansas!) U.S.A. I don't travel much, love the sunsets, read horror, philosophy and science, dabble in my own writing, play ultra-violent video games and am doing my part to bring about the rise of Ct...Next Scientific Revolution! Actually I'm a pretty normal post-college guy trying to make his way in an insane world. And yes, Kansas is pretty flat, but we do have trees.

    My RPG experience includes ADnD, DnD 3.0/3.5/Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu (I swear R'lyeh is here!), Exalted, WoD new/old, Mechwarrior, Cthulhutech, Star Wars Revised/Saga, GURPs and of course MnM! Reading that list back, I feel like a huge geek. *rips shirt, revealing giant 'G' logo* Proud of it. :ugeek:

    I originally found Freedom City quite a while back, but have simply been lurking. Didn't want to get burned when the site disappeared, but looks like FC is here for the long haul!
