"Our kitchen," Charlie tries to correct Vik. "C'mon, it's not just my place. I really try to make that clear, don't I?"

Looking back and forth between Bernie and Vi, he throws his hands up again. "Sure, but I'd like to point out Kithat I'm the only one here that doesn't have some kind of super strength, so, y'know, maybe try to not hit me too hard in the face?" He is grinning anyway. Maybe this'll help lift Bernie's spirit a bit, not that he blames her. Still, he's more used to fighting with his staff than without, so maybe he should just focus on none of them taking his head off?

"Alright, fine fine. Our kitchen. It's still so difficult to get used to the fact that I live here now, but I'll adjust in time."

She grinned back at Charlie. "I also don't have any tricks or gadgets like you do, so we're both at a disadvantage! Well, sorta. I guess we'll just have to find out, won't we?"

Bernadette gave a small smirk at Charlie’s response to Vik's suggestion of some sparring. "Poor dear." She replied with a grin. "Luckily, I do like your face tha way it is." She then added as she stood back up.

The redhead walked over towards the open space in the gym that was set up with mats for sparing or tumbling. Opening a cabinet along the wall, she took out some padded MMA style gloves for herself as she walked out onto the mats. "So, we take it light an’ body blows only?" She asked, looking back at the other two.

"Well, I certainly wouldn't want to get in between your lover's quarrel, but we'll see whose face gets turned into a Picasso today!" she said teasingly, moving her weight from one leg to another. She was already starting to stretch and warm up, excited to test her mettle against her teammates. "That sounds good to me, Red. You and me first, then...winner fights Charlie?" she said, looking at him. "I'm interested to see how this will turn out. Haven't beaten up two superheroes in one day before!"

Vik groaned as she got to her feet and found Muirne and Multi-Girl fighting alongside her. The ringing in her ears subsided, and she nodded to her friends. "Don't worry," she groaned, "I think we've got 'em on the ropes. Besides, I've got a new trick up my sleeve..."

She planted herself on the ground, widening her stance and holding her fists out in front of her. A thick carapace of bone formed around her body, creating an armor that surrounded her. Spiky clubs covered her fists entirely, and she turned to face the duplicate that knocked her down.

"You made a mistake today. You ruined our team hang-out. You hurt my friends. And worst of all," she said, tapping her club-fists together like a prizefighter. Vik lunged forward, throwing her might into a massive right hook!

    "YOU PISSED ME OFF!"

  3. Okay, Vik will use her Move Action to stand up, a Free Action to switch to Bonebreaker Stance. Not that it'll matter, since I doubt the duplicates are wearing Impervious Armor, but she's mad, so...

She will make a -2/+2 Power Attack versus the duplicate standing nearest to her: 1d20 (19) + 10 = 29! Unfortunately, not a critical, but that's a DC 25 Toughness!

Vik could not contain her surprise as Charlie suddenly appeared"Woah! Hey, good morning to you, too," she said, thrown off momentarily. How the hell did he do that?!

"I think we could debate all day and not quite know the answer. I'm not opposed to that, but it feels like it's weighing pretty heavily on you. So, maybe we talk about it after our workout? I know your kitchen is fully stocked with post-workout smoothie stuff, probably better to talk it over once we're in cooldown mode." Vik's stomach growled. Although the smoothies were very tasty, she was ready for her post-workout steak. Though her conversation about her dietary needs was a bit awkward, Charlie made her feel like it was as normal as mentioning a peanut allergy or being vegan.

"Hey, I've got an idea! Wanna spar?" To illustrate her request, she formed two bony MMA-style boxing gloves around her hands and threw a few punches in the air. "Gotta warn you, I wasn't one to mess with on the exercise yard. Had to learn to defend myself pretty quickly!"

  6. GHULE

Vik sat down next to Bernie and listened to her experience carefully. There was a lot that she didn't know, even having briefly crossed the bridge of death herself and returned, but no one could say they came back unchanged. Certainly, the two of them were no exception.

"I don't know about all that, Bern. That's a question for a smarter person than me, questions of the soul and all that. I think as long as you're still you, that part of you that's still a hero, then your soul is still whole. I don't make a big deal out of this either," she says, and retrieves a silver Star of David necklace from her shirt, and shows it to Bernadette. "But you fought heroically. That's gotta count for something in the end, y'know? It's more difficult for people like us, not superheroes, but people of faith...we gotta think about these things. But I think that the good actions we do in this life reflect on our soul, and you've got a good one, Bernie."

"So...even though we've gotta live with our experiences, good and bad, it's the choices we make that define who we are."

  7. GHULE

Vik grunted as she lifted the weights over her head. She hadn't worked out for a long time, but she knew she could lift so much more. These powers still felt strange to her, but they were certainly useful. It felt good to have friends again, though, people who wouldn't ostracize her because of her...differences.

As she finished up her first set, she heard what Bernadette had to say. "Oh," was all she could muster for a moment. Memories of her own death started to flood back into her mind. The feeling of helplessness, combined with the surety that her life was going to end at such a young age. And that laugh...that horrible laugh of Baron Samedi as he watched it happen.

Then Vik did something she hadn't done since before her first stint in juvie: she suddenly embraced Bernadette in a huge bear hug. She eventually let go, and tears were streaming down her face. Vik angrily wiped them away, trying as she might to hide her emotional vulnerability.

"I, uh. I'd appreciate it if you didn't tell anyone I, well..." she said, trailing off. "But I know how you feel. I mean, that sounds like what everyone says, but I really know what you're going through, and it ####ing sucks." She sighed in frustration, trying to find the right words. "Look, I'm not good at talking about stuff. But for what it's worth, it can be really scary. That feeling, you know? But it gets easier, at least I think so. Having friends helps...having a place to stay and really be yourself. Knowing there's people around you that care. It'll be okay Bernie, but it will take time."

Vik was in Kingston eating her take-out dinner in an alleyway: several raw, dripping steaks she purchased from a nearby carniceria. To avoid strange looks, she mostly ate her meals on the go - she wasn't in the store long enough to attract any real attention, and blood dripped from her chin as she took another huge bite out of the steak. Oh my god, this is so good. It's seasoned to perfection!

As she ripped off another bite, she received Charlie's call. "I'm on my way," she said, finishing what she could. It seemed that every time she was in a superhero battle, she left it starving, so it was good that she got a chance to eat beforehand. She pulled out her brand-new iPhone, courtesy of Charlie's family plan. She was still in awe of it: it left her old burner phones in the dust. She called an Uber, and paid extra to have it pick her up immediately. It's no Stormcycle, but it gets the job done...

Meanwhile the three Legion facing Ghule had moved into a circle around her, grinning as the zombie young woman made desperate attempts to hit them with her bone weapons. "Need some pointers?" One asked.

"We can help." Replied another as she and the first lunged in, both striking Ghule with their staff, one connecting on the side of her head. Meanwhile, the third attacked from behind, hitting the zombie young woman in the back.

Over near where Multi-Girl lay on the ground now in agony from being shocked, the two Legion facing Stormcrow readied themselves as they grinned, one rubbing her jaw where she had been hit by his staff. "Hit a nerve there did we?" One asked as they both moved in to attack, but Stormcrow easily blocked the first attack, and while he blocked the second, it was a bit of a call.

"What are you going to do if we hit her again?" As a third Legion, another that had been sent flying by Nighscale's wind gust, as she brought her staff above her head and started to swing it down toward Multi-Girl.

At that moment a large armored figure dropped out of the sky, landing between the Legion and Multi-Girl. The figure stood nearly six and a half feet tall and was dressed in teal armor with a black under suit visible at the joints. On each shoulder pauldron of the armor was a black circle with a yellow eight-pointed starburst in the middle. A similar, much larger white starburst covered the armor’s chest plate. The figure was male, with grey-blue skin, high cheekbones and a flowing mane of white hair and tapered ears.

He easily caught Legion's staff in his right hand, holding it firmly in place as he looked down at the woman as she tried to pull it free. "I do not think so." He said in heavily accented English.

    GHULE

Vik attempted to bring her bone-katanas to bear, but Legion was just too fast, and she realized that she had hit the extent of her training. She may be stronger, but they were faster and more experienced. All this went through her mind just moments before the staff connected with the side of her head. Her head rang like a bell, and she staggered for a moment before two more blows rained down on her, the last one connecting with her back. Though she knew the pain was psychosomatic, it still hurt like nobody's business, and she fell to the ground on her side, groaning as a high-pitched whine filled her head.

"Bern..." she croaked out as she got to her feet slowly, her head still ringing, as an armored figure dropped out of the sky. Who the hell is this now? she thought as she readied herself into a fighting stance, but tripped over her own feet and fell back down. I'm in way over my head here...

  10. GHULE

Vik gives Bernie a rapid glance but looks away just as quickly, abashed. "I mean, you have a nice figure. We're both superheroes, so appearances can definitely be deceiving. If we were both, well, regular, we'd probably look like those ladies on American Gladiator if we could lift what we do," she said with a small chuckle. "I'm still a string bean. I guess whatever turned me into this just kept me the way I looked before."

"But anyway, let's start out easy. Let's say, 500 pounds?" Vik rolls her arms and does some simple, quick callisthenic exercises to warm up before lying on a nearby bench press. "By the way, you aren't a burden. We're friends, so, if there's anything on your mind, we can talk about it. Or, if you'd prefer, we can just pump some iron like the badass superhero babes we are."

It made her nervous to think she was intruding on Bernie's personal life, but she was obviously going through some stuff. Why shouldn't she be there for her friend and teammate?

  11. GHULE

Vik walked into the gym, sipping from a sports bottle she found in the kitchen, a towel thrown casually across her shoulder. She was ready to hit the gym with a vengeance: Charlie had shown her around during his mansion tour, but she was quite eager to get back into shape. She hadn't thought much about how her body would respond if she stopped working out entirely; after all, she did not sweat. Strangely, as long as she maintained her diet of at least one pound of raw meat per day, her physique didn't change, but why risk it? Questions of zombie metabolism were largely beyond Vik's limited experience of the world, but she knew working out felt great, and that's all that was important to her.

Uncharacteristically, Vik was dressed in a hot pink Hello Kitty t-shirt (perhaps an ironic statement) and black stretchy shorts. She walked into the gym just as Bernie's punch caused the punching bag to go flying. What the hell did I walk into? Hope it's not a spat with Charlie...I don't want to get into any drama, especially since I just moved in. But I should at least ask what's bugging her...

"Hey, uhh, Bernie?" Vik asked, walking into the gym facility but keeping her distance. "What's going on? I mean, you can talk to me about it if you want to. If you don't feel like talking about it, though, I could definitely use a spotter," she said, offering her an out if whatever was going on was too much to discuss. "Used to lift some heavy iron back in juvie," she said with a wry grin and flexed her biceps. Her arms were very skinny, but some muscle showed through. "Well, you know. Before all this."

“But, all you have is probably school books and encyclopedias.”

    He added with another snort.

Vik playfully punched Leon on the arm. “Hey Leon does more than read…right? I’d be down for some practice sparring! We’ll see if paper beats rock!” To illustrate her point, she formed a bony club over her fist, then quickly dissipated it.

She was more than a little embarrassed that she had to take the host away from his tour, but no one seemed to mind. The hard part would be breaking her, let’s call them dietary needs to her new friends. That would come later though, as everyone seemed to be very welcoming.

“You have a jet, Charlie?” Vik asked incredulously. She had never flown on a regular airplane, much less a jet, not that she would ever admit it. Truth be told, her new teammates probably had a lot more life experiences that they took for granted that she couldn’t dream of.

  13. GHULE

Vik raised her arms against the staff blows, grunting as they deflected off bony shields she raised in response to their assault. She held her arms up, crouching slightly in a defensive position while the blows rained down on her, then she suddenly leapt up, pushing them back a bit.

"Okay," Vik said, as she reformed her twin katanas. "Now it's my turn." As she spoke, a shockwave blasted another one of the duplicates close to her. "One more of you? Well, no problem. I brought enough whoop-ass for everyone!"

She swung her katanas left and right in a whirlwind of violence, slashing at whoever dared get too close. Her skill with her bone weapons was preternaturally strong, but Vik's rage showed through. Her swings were strong but sloppy, and she growled in frustration. How the hell do the other Guardians make it look so easy? I'd better take some time training before our next villain fight...

He looks around at everyone. "I know I've been away for a while, but thank you, everyone. You did great."

Vik calmed herself down, and she cleared her throat. "Well. That's what I would do if he were still here, anyway. But, that's not an option, soooo..."

She gives Charlie a thumbs-up, proud of all of them. She was proud of herself for the first time in maybe ever"Yeah! We did kick ass, didn't we?" It felt good to help. Certainly, she felt like she was making a real difference - her previous forays into superheroics ended in failure, or she didn't feel like she was doing much. Stopping kids from stealing candy bars at the local 7-11 wasn't really helping, but this. This felt like being a real superhero.

Her face fell when she realized she likely wouldn't see them again. Or maybe it was more that they wouldn't want her around if they knew her better. Ah well. Easy come, easy go. Still, it was a shining moment for her.

"So, I guess I'll see you all around!" she waved at everyone as she walked away.

    Paper

As Paper slipped over the rubble to peek into the armored vehicle the color of his hoodie changed colors to black with red trim. The occupants seemed to be alive, if not a little worse for wear. The sound of weapons fire was audible from outside as he noticed the side of the transport had been caved in.

Something had slammed into it; it was probably what had driven it through the wall of the arena. Whatever happened outside was serious.

It was easy enough for Paper to slide across the roof and slip between the armored vehicle and the wall. On the other side he crouched on the roof and looked around.

    Ghule

Vik slips in behind Paper, putting a hand on his shoulder to steady herself. as she climbs over the rubble. "Woah, hey. Sorry there, it's pretty cramped. What the hell is going on out here?"

She looked out at the figures now staring at the two of them. "Oooooh. Bad guys, I get it. Looks like a prison break of some sort? Hey, they're looking at us. Maybe we should say hi?"

Vik inhaled deeply, and shouted "Hey, what do you think you're doing? You interrupted our laser-tag!! Guess we're just gonna have to kick your asses now!" She climbed out of the rubble and stood facing them, her body crackling as she transforming her bone-knuckles into twin katanas which she whirled around, throwing them both into the air and catching them with the opposite hand. "So. Who's first? Form a line."

Didn't know specifics like that, but I wouldn't have invited you here if I wasn't serious about it. I can't imagine it's easy for you to deal with all that, but a pound of raw meat? That's doable. There's something in the fridge if you need it now, should still be plenty left for whoever stays." Charlie pauses for a moment, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "I would like to know the specifics at some point, if you don't mind. Things like how often exactly, what happens exactly if you don't and so on. Just so we're sure to have what you need."

If he's shocked or surprised by Vik's declaration, he doesn't show it.

    GHULE

“I don’t know what to say. Thanks would be a good start though.” That went much better than she thought it would, better than she could have imagined. Vik pushed down any negative thoughts that sprung up, and it almost worked.

“So, like…to add to what I was talking about earlier, you’ve offered me a lot without asking any more than my joining your team earlier. I don’t really know you, or any of the Young Guardians yet.” She paused, taking a moment to put her thoughts together. “But I want to know you. Oh, umm…by which I mean, I want to get to know all the Guardians! Let’s get back to the others, you were just showing everyone around, haha!” She laughs awkwardly, and exits the room as soon as she can.

Way to play it cool, Vik…

  17. Ghule

Vik could only look on disbelief as the Conquerer Worm was hauled into the portal, resisting with all of his considerable might. And then…it was over. Wow, this feels…amazing. Is that what these guys feel all the time?

This joy quickly turned to pain as Shields’ psychic scream echoed through her body and mind, and she was soon paralyzed with the rest of them, unable to move, much less act. Vik gritted her teeth and seethed in anger. That absolute ####er is getting away!

When she could stand up, she stumbled to her feet and made an attempt to chase after them, though she knew that was a foregone conclusion. She instead paced around, breathing hard, and jerked her wrists violently to deploy her bone-claws, then retract them, again and again.

“So, we’re going after that ###hole, right? I’m gonna kick his ### so hard, he…” she says, continuing with a highly improbable and painful bodily threat. “But I won’t kill him. Ohhh no. He’ll have to live with it.”
