How to Roll the Dice and Post Your Dice Rolls:

If there is a Ref involved in your thread, make sure you check with him/her first. He/she may require dice to be handled in a specific way. But generally . . .

1. Roll the Dice. We are using Invisible Castle as our online dice roller. On the main screen click "Roll the Dice." There you are!

2. Select a Character Name: The first box on the dice rolling window is "Character Name." There are two important considerations for selecting your character name. 1) Make sure your character name is as unique as possible. Refs may give you the character name you are to use when rolling the dice in a specific thread. For example, if the thread title is "Heroes for the Holidays," the Ref may want you to use your hero name prefixed with "[HftH]" as your character name. 2) Make sure you use the same character name for every roll.

3. Input Your Roll: This is pretty self-explanatory, but if you have trouble, check out the explanation text on the roll page. If you still have trouble, PM a Ref and he/she will be happy to help. Please include any modifiers to your roll of which you are aware. For example, if you are making an attack roll, add your attack modifier to 1d20.

4. Type a Note: Every roll you make should include a note with it that identifies the details of that roll to help make it unique. Example: "Toughness save vs Dr. Death's blast." or "Ref save vs. mummy's snare."

5. Post your roll: Once you click "Roll the Dice," Invisible Castle will show you a results page, including a link to your roll. Make sure you use the URL that is displayed on that page, and not the URL shown in the navigation bar of your browser window. Once you have that URL, there are several options. If your thread has a Ref involved, make sure you check with him/her to see if he/she has a preference. The three options:

A. Post the link in the OOC thread of your story/campaign/duel.

B. Include the link as an OOC comment at the bottom of your IC thread.

C. Include the link in your IC post with the [ URL] BBCode. Example:

Now it was the mummy's turn. The expressionless face wrapped in the thick, tough bandages turned its attention toward Raindance. It shot out its hand in his direction and unleashed a long thin strand of bandages. They disconnected from the mummy's body, sped down the street, and wrapped themselves around Raindance's neck and mouth. The material was pliable but as hard as steel and completely non-porous. It only took Raindance a second to realize that he couldn't breathe. Without a moment's hesitation, the mummy lifted its other hand up toward Freedom Eagle and unleashed another loose wad of bandages from its arm. They struck the flying hero and began trying to entangle his limbs.

The code for the last sentence in the above example looks like this:

They [url=http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1352299]struck[/url] the flying hero and began trying to entangle his limbs.

It is really important that you don't miss any of the steps given above. Proper use of the dice roller (proper "character name" use, detailed "notes." etc.) is the only way to ensure that everyone is honest and above board with their rolls. Also, Refs have the authority to void any roll they suspect is "fishy" and require a reroll. Be honest, be consistent, and everything should run smoothly.
