You know, for kids!

For those that had responded positively to the Emissary's invitation sent through Freedom City's superhero community, the day had arrived where he asked for those that would be joining him to come and meet with him to discuss the event.

There was a state department provided (read: insisted upon) gate guard at his embassy that would take names and check ahead with all due propriety, even if the Emissary's responses over the intercom had sense of quietly helpless exasperation to them each time when he did.

They're directed on through to a sitting room. And aside from all the furnishings being heavily reinforced in some way, if often unseen to the naked eye, it is really just a stately and well renovated building of various rooms and offices, the decoration a bit Victorian overall, as the decorators in question had barely caught up to that era in terms of their familliarity with and attention paid to human society at large. The Emissary's sole point of input seems to have been in the couches and chairs being particularly lush, so that any guests could relax in comfort.

The Emissary himself smiles with a cheery wave to everyone as they begin to stream in.

Estelle de Havilland has been inside a lot of fancy homes in her lifetime, even a palace when she was much younger, but something about this place is special; is it actually so different from the rest, or is the mere knowledge that it's home to an otherworldly inhabitant enough to gently warp one's perceptions? Everything seems sharper and more distinct; is the air somehow clearer, or more conductive to light?

And then she sees her host

Estelle herself is quite stunning; the way her shimmering golden hair cascades over her shoulders and down her back, the cut and color of her blue-and-white jumpsuit (recently refitted by a professional designer) showing her athletic build to good effect and making her blue eyes sparkle. A few weeks ago she finally decided to embrace what she is, what she's now become, and just enjoy it; the jumpsuit makeover was the first step.

But this man, this smiling silver god...

She grabs two lengths of hair as though she wore a gown, and curtsies like she hasn't done in years, though her form is still perfect. "This is indeed a pleasure, sir. I am Doctor Estelle de Havilland, but you may call me Gossamer, if you wish."

It would never so much as cross Captain Wonder's mind that superheroes have to do things like obey treaties. He doesn't bother with a car. Instead, he cheerfully comes flying in towards the embassy, low enough over the fence to give a friendly wave to the security guard as he heads for the building proper. If no one stops him, he lands at the front door and heads inside to join the others.

A streak of yellow sped along the roads leading to the Embassy Emissary resided in. It was only a matter of seconds before Velocity came to a halt in front of the gate to the grounds, stopping to let the annoying security personnel check her in, tapping a foot impatiently as they did so.

The guard was barely halfway through saying she could go in when she was gone in a blur, a gush of wind following her that blew the bushes and some low tree branches as well as causing the guard to fumble around some for some loose papers that were kicked up.

It was not even a second before she was out in front of the impressive building, just as Captain Wonder was landing.  "We have to stop meeting like this."  The young speedster said with a smile as she came to a halt.

Doktor Archeville strolled down the sidewalk towards Emissary's embassy. Well, more like floated, since his feet weren't touching the ground, thanks to his gravimetric belt. He smiled and nodded to passersby, and did the occasional flip to the delight of children. Reaching the embassy, he was too happy to answer the guards' questions, though was a tad put off when he realized none of them really knew who he was, aside form what their paperwork indicate.

And why are we doing this again?

For the children.

The tasty children?

No, the poor and impoverished children who cannot afford a decent education. Particularly and education in science.

Meh. Well, at least it might cut down on the superstitious bullcrap.

So glad to hear you're on-board.

Continuing towards the door, he smiles upon seeing two familiar faces. "Velocity! Kapitan Vonder! So good to see you again!"

Rusty watched the arrival of the other super heroes, Gossamer and Velocity with much more interest than Captain Wonderful and Doktor Whoever. The camera pole he sat on was a pretty good lookout spot.

When Velocity hit the breaks to talk with Captain Wonder he forced himself to keep from whistling. "That Velocity can give me the run around anytime she likes."

Rusty sighs wistfully at an impossible notion and leans forward over the post to make an upside down face into the camera. With a hop he lands solidly next to the front gate guard. He smiles and waves before introducing himself. "Hey! I'm Rusty Nail and you've got my name on that little clipboard of yours. Do you want some ID or should we just wait and see if any other five inch tall people come along saying they're me?"

After the confirmation with the inside he's waved on through.

Rusty strolls along the path and up the stairs between the heroes outside and heads in. They'd been given the heads up or was it down... on his stature and were looking for him along the floor when he walked through the door.

He was escorted to the sitting room where he hopped up and sat on the edge of a desk. The plush furniture designed to accommodate normal size folk of all varieties would sink him up to his chin.

Here was Gossamer who he did his best not to stare idly at and The Emissary himself. "Thanks for the invite big guy. Nice digs. Hi Gossamer, I'm Rusty."

"Thanks for the invite big guy. Nice digs. Hi Gossamer, I'm Rusty."

Gossamer turns to the miniature hero in surprise; she has so much to learn about superhero culture, so many names and faces to remember. At first she doesn't know what to make of him; is he always like that? Is he happy or bitter? Does it drive him crazy when women tell him he's cute (because she's sure they do), or does he bask in it?

Finally she decides to stop analyzing things so much and just talk to him; she walks over and offers her index finger to be shaken, hoping not to insult the man.

"Hi Rusty. I'm sorry to say that I don't you by reputation, but I'm still very new to being heroic, as it were, so please don't take offense."

Estelle sighs and moves to take a 'seat' nearby, crossing her long legs and using some of her hair to prop herself up like a crude chair. She turns back to Rusty and smiles sympathetically.

"So I'm going to ask you one of the three questions you're asked every time someone meets you; are you always small, or do you have control over it?"

Rusty stands up and waves his hand across his body. "What you see is what you get babe. I used to be an average guy and now I'm not. As far as I know there's no going back. It's put a bit of a crimp on my social life but rent on a sock drawer is pretty cheap." He's smiling while he says this. "I've had a while to get used to it. Like everyone's life it's got it's ups and downs."

He wanders across the desk a and idly picks up a paper clip. He unfolds it and slowly twists it in a tight curl.

"But I'm new to the hero thing. For a couple of years I just took care of myself but I decided I'd have more fun helping people and busting heads. Apparently there aren't a lot of really small heroes around so I've been interviewed a few times. They keep calling me up for the lighter side coverage. Apparently it's humorous when I spring into action."

He pushes the coiled wire down and sends it plinking off across the room.

He smiles at Gossamer and asks, "So what's your story? What started you battling the forces of evil?"

A little surprised, but not displeased, at the size of the crowd, Wonder gives a cordial greeting to everybody. "Nice to see you all again, and to meet you other folks." The little guy with the big mouth and the lady with the big hair are certainly impressive enough, but he's far too much of a veteran to gape at either. Still, both get a friendly smile and hello.

The Emissary greeted the group with a smile as they streamed in, his periodic calls of reassurance to the gate guard ensuring they faced little trouble in so doing.

To Gossamer particularly when she curtsied, if on nothing more than schooling in etiquette, he slid up to his feet and sketched a graceful half bow with a flourish in return.

It was entirely possible he was just drawing on "what you do when someone curtsies to you" and shifting from there into diplomat sorts of behaviours, but there was an effortless poise to the gesture all the same.

"The pleasure is mine for your company Doctor. Thank you for accepting my invitation."

His demeanor shifted back to his more usual amicable cheerfulness as he nodded to Rusty.

"And to you as well. I actually find this place a bit.. hm.. overly ornate, but some very insistent designers from my homeland will be pleased to hear of your opinion."

He excused himself at that to go open the door for the others who waited by it, and as he recognized them all, his gaze brightened to see them.

"Hello my friends! I am so very glad you all could make it. If you'll follow me?"

And if they did, he lead them all to the sitting room where the others had already arrived.

Who're those two?

How should I know?

Well, I don't know them, so I assumed they were some goody-goodies you knew.

They may be 'goody-goodies,' they may not. Unlike you, I'm not so paranoid as to try and keep track of every 'person of interest' in the area.

Archeville followed Emissary in, smiling and offering his hand to Gossamer and Rusty, "Hello! You are both active in zhe hero gig too, ja? So nice to meet new faces!"

Velocity followed alongside Dr. Archeville and Captain Wonder as the trio made their way inside, opting to move at a more normal speed for a change.

When they arrived, she gave Emissary a wide smile.  "Good to see you again Emissary."  She said in greeting before looking at the other two heroes gathered in the room. She had seen a few of the interviews with Rusty Nail, and found he was as cute as one would expect from being so small, but decided that might not be a good thing to bring up.

She also noted Gossamer, who was sitting on what looked like her own hair forming a chair. Wow, not only does she have amazing looking hair, it is useful as well! She thought to herself. Wonder if she has much problems washing it and caring for it?

"Hi there."  She said to the other two with a wide smile as well.  "Nice to meet you both."

Captain Wonder does his best to hide his uneasiness around all these younger superheroes, shaking hands and giving friendly greetings as much as possible. He's very glad to see the Emissary, the only person in this crowd he really knows well, and gives him the firmest handshake of all. "Wouldn't have missed all this for the world. For a good cause, I'll do most anything."

"The pleasure is mine for your company Doctor. Thank you for accepting my invitation."

Estelle dimples slightly and shakes her head, causing golden ripples to radiate from her head. "Not at all, I'm glad to help."

He smiles at Gossamer and asks, "So what's your story? What started you battling the forces of evil?"

The beautiful blond laughs and shrugs. "To be honest, I've yet to make my mark; I have a habit of overthinking things, so I've been moving at my usual glacial pace."

She makes a fist and shakes it rather melodramatically. "I think a hero, or at the very least someone who tries to be a hero, should be a person of action, don't you? Not jotting down notes and labeling samples. Oh well, in time, in time."

"Hello! You are both active in zhe hero gig too, ja? So nice to meet new faces!"

The appearance of the well-known if somewhat eccentric Teutonic genius makes Gossamer's bright blue eyes go wide. "Dr Archeville, this is an unexpected pleasure, though of course, why wouldn't you be here?" The blond heroine rises, and her 'chair' collapses into a restless mass of tendrils that seem to echo her excitement as she crosses to fiercely shake his hand with both of her own. "This is an honor! Your article in the Journal of Organic Chemistry on alicyclic heterocycles was absolutely gripping!"

When they enter, Estelle greets both Velocity and Captain Wonder warmly, and while she is courteous enough to get their names right, smile and make eye contact, it's clear all she really wants to to is pick the doctor's stupendous brain

Rusty smiles warmly and winks at the speedster chick and says, "Back at ya babe."

Rusty sighs after Gossamer and shrugs. His thoughts run idly, A smart chick like that wouldn't have anything to do with me anyway. At least not a smart chick more than twelve times my height. Hey maybe Doc over there can whip me up a shrink ray!

Archeville is obviously taken aback by Gossamer, both by her appearance and familiarity with his work. "Vell, I'm very pleased you zhought so! Tell me, vhat did you zhink of my follow-up article, zhe von on using alicyclic heterocycles in optical recording und read/write media?" It was soon very clear who the doktor was focused on.

How you doin'?

Shut up.

What? I'm being friendly, I'm making contacts.

That's not all you wanna make.

Gossamer wrinkles her nose and smiles. "It was good, but not so much in my field; I'm afraid you lost me after a little bit."

She laughs and then turns to face the Emissary, taking in the group with a casual wave of her arm. "Are we expecting any others, or is this our full complement?"

"I think one or two others might show up later, but for the moment, this seems to be the majority."

He gestures to available chairs, then moves to unfurl a map of the park out on a table.

"This is the layout of the park itself, the usual rides, stands and attractions it has. I do have a few planned events in mind for the group as a whole, but I would like to hear your own ideas for what you yourselves might like to do particularly this day, as it will be a full day."

"For instance, I myself will be taking time to be the force that turns the Ferris Wheel around for a while, I have some space marked out later for children to line up for me to fly them around the park, and I will be spending some time in the autograph booth, which I would appreciate a few others taking some time during the day for as well."

Velocity looked down at the map a moment, taking in everything in far less than a second. She then looked back up at Emissary as he explained some of the things he would be doing. She needed to talk to him about the "problem" she was going to have, seeing as her mother had helped a great deal in arranging some of this, particularly top corporate donors. The teenage speedster was going to have to do some switching between being Velocity and being Megan Howell during the event.

When Captain Wonder made his suggestion, she chuckled slightly.  "I could totally help with a kissing booth, though that wouldn't really be something the kids would be that into. And I can spend time giving out autographs as well."

"Oh, it's not zhat complex, really," he replies to Gossamer, even as she turns to address Emissary, "just a technique for making recordable media zhat make Blu-ray discs look... like..."

Smooth move.

Eh, I'm just warmin' up...

Riiiight... well, while you futilely try your hand at... whatever, I'll be paying attention to the plans for the charity.

Archeville looked over the map Emissary was going over, and listening to the suggestions of others. "I'd be glad to man an autograph booth for a time, zhough I doubt I'll get many takers. Same mit zhe kissing booth," he said, shooting a wink at Gossamer. "However, I do have an idea for somezhing I could bring zhat vould get attention from many: some exhibitions of some of mein minor 'super-scence' devices. I've been asked to judge a few science fairs back home, I know vhat most kids like to see, und I believe I can make for an entertaining show."

WAR Kittens?!

NO!

"Ahm.. a kissing booth.. well.. certainly if there are those willing to staff it.. I suppose.. ah.. sure. Yes."

A bit of a cough, then a look to the Doctor.

"Oh, certainly. If there are any materials particularly you might require for such, let me know, and I'll see what I can do."

Rusty grins and says, "Well I don't know if I can help out if there's going to be a kissing booth. I'll be stuck waiting in line all day." He smiles and carries on, "But seriously I could play the guess my weight game with the kids. Stand on a scale and they can guess what sort of weights to add or I can do some tiniest strong man stuff. Heck, I'll hand out ice cream cones if you like. I'm just happy to help."

He smiled to see Rusty's enthusiasm.

"It is I who am glad you are all here to help. And I like both ideas, the guessing we can have people put in their guesses during the day, and have a prize for the person who comes the closest at the main ceremonies."

He pauses.

"Speaking of which, as far as planned events go, I was able to prevail on the rest of the league to modify and render moveable some of the holographic technology used in the Wreck Room, so as to allow for a group performance against a simulated threat and scenario that can be put up on display screen."

"I should warn that ah, given that the goal is entertainment, expect it to be a certain value of melodramatic and florid. And by certain value, I mean completely and utterly."
