Ashton Mall, West Freedom, Freedom City

3:23 PM

It was a quiet day at Ashton Mall. A light rain, barely enough to be noticed made people stay inside, wheter at home, or at various public places. Ashton Mall was one of them. While there was quite a crowd, it was a peaceful one, families doing their weekly shopping, teenagers hanging out, people meeting for events in stores.

A small crowd had formed in front of a set of TVs, showcasing a new Episodic TV series premiering later this month, some people were sitting inside a hobby store. A sale at a local independent clothes store had attracted some people too, looking for high quality clothes. All in all, it was business as usual.

Amongst the shoppers was Chris Kenzie, currently on the mall’s uppermost floor, not far below the roof, made almost entirely of glass, only a few beams supporting it. Many people disliked the roof being set up like this, but on rainy days, it had a pleasant look, the water slowly running down the slight incline.

And then, suddenly, Chris felt like this day was about to change. A noise was approaching, one suggesting that things were about to heat up. Distant at first, it became louder at a rapid pace.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH

And then, the screaming was interrupted by the sound of glass breaking. A lot of glass breaking, as whoever had been screaming hit the middle of the mall’s roof, causing most of it to break and rain glass shards (and water) down, across the mall.

Chris had been sent out to get baby formula on the way over to the Espadases, deciding to quickly pass through the Ashton Mall to go to its baby store. It was quiet enough at this time on a Saturday afternoon, and he thought it'd just be a quick errand, going in, going out, done like that.

Then he looked up to see the roof splintering as someone fell through it, and inwardly sighed even as he'd began reflexively running into the nearest crowd. He took advantage of the confusion to quickly roll into one of the large leafy floral displays kept in large pots throughout the mall, rolling out the other side having stripped off his outerwear and pulled his mask and goggles up.

At a quick run, he leapt over the barrier and dropped down to the lower level, sprinting towards where the body had fallen.

Leaping down, Chris found himself in the middle of a sea of glass. The incoming scream had made most people run away, so fortunately, by the time of the impact the floor had mostly been cleared, people had gone into hiding position. A few had still been caught, some got lucky, some not so much. A few were fine, some were bleeding.

In the middle of the room was the body that had caused all of this. As soon as Chris laid his eyes on it, he realized it had not been a human that had fallen through the ceiling. The body was on the ground, with large wings, black and white like those of a heron, also on the ground. The person themselves looked like a young man, late teens probably, and, for the most part, human. His shirt, a plain white one, was in shreds, with some pieces still hanging on, some having fallen off, and cuts all across it. Below it, a metal vest of some sort. Along his arms, the skin as pale as it got, more cuts could be seen, mostly small ones, some blood dripping down. On first glance, the young man’s head looked uninjured, there were no easy to make out cuts or other injuries.

A quick cough, followed by his arm shooting upwards off the ground revealed that he was still conscious, as a roar sounded through the mall from up above, triggering a second wave of screaming from the bystanders. Looking upwards, Chris could make out a flying silhouette, dressed in yellow, with a head that looked … not human, more like some sort of dragon, and arms that were far too bulky to be natural muscle.

Geckoman skidded to his knees next to the downed... bird man person? He wasn't really an expert on bird person anatomy, but he went in, checking the lacerations, looking for a pulse, when he suddenly ducked backwards as the guy's hand shot up, pointing at something.

"Whatcha looking at there, dude?" Geckoman asked, tilting his head up, jaw dropping as he saw a... man dragon? The hell was going on here, it was like some sort of wing person zoo. He gave the downed man a little pat on the arm. "Hang tight, buddy, I've got this." Geckoman stood up, and pointed at the figure flying above. "Hey, jackass! Took you long enough, finally deciding to come over to Westeros!"

The man was clearly weakened by the impact, coughing again, as he tried to lift himself up slowly, only managing to get a cut on his hand while trying to do so. Instead, he simply kept his position and didn’t move, his one arm still pointing upwards, at where the Dragon was flying. He spoke, his voice surprisingly strong considering what he had just been through, and with a heavy accent to boot, one Chris could not really pin down.

“Didn’t watch out. He’s strong.”

His other hand lifted off the ground, trying to find something attached to his waist. At the same time, the blood continued to make its way, a few small trickles of blood running down both his arms. From up close, the cuts looked surprisingly small, with the wounds not nearly as big as they probably could’ve been. As Geckoman stood up, the Avian managed to get out a few more words.

“Fights Melee. But, also has Fire. Tough, too, but not very fast. “

"Well, that doesn't sound like something very good to have running around in-doors. We're already under a load of falling glass here. Right. Let's do this." Geckoman bent low, twisting into himself, before leaping up and away like a spring, feet slamming into a wall fifty foot above him. He balanced himself quickly with one hand, the other pulling out his staff.

He took another massive leap, aiming for the impact hole Bird Boy had left on his way down, soaring through it even as he made a quick gesture, his staff snapping out and extending from both ends. Geckoman made a quick roll along with the movement of the staff, sending himself into a twirl as he elegantly brought his staff around like a baseball bat towards the dragon man. "Hey, big guy! How's it going?" laughed Geckoman as he hit him at high speed, reversing the movement to land perched on a couple of the thin metal framework, avoiding the jagged shards of broken glass still sticking out from them.

The Dragon looked on in amusement as Geckoman jumped upwards. Clearly, he didn’t feel threatened by the display of Chris’ leaping abilities, and continued to fly in place, looking downwards at the mall, focused on his previous opponent, who was still just lying there, one arm pointing upwards. Then, Geckoman took another leap, and the Dragon looked over, less uninterested than before. And then, Geckoman hit him, and the Dragon flew over, completely surprised.

The hit had been straight in the midsection. Either the Dragon had not expected it, or had not dodged in time.  It was a strong hit, and the Dragon clearly felt it, as he soared through the air, tumbling and clearly not in control. Fortunately, the mall was one of the largest buildings in the area, so there was no risk of hitting another building.

Geckoman pointed his staff at The Dragon, before whirling it quickly in one hand like a conductor's baton. "C'mon. I'm not some flying dragon guy, I've just got a big stick here." He threw back his head and laughed loudly. "I mean, I'm not saying I want to get beaten up, but I came up here expecting a fight.

Whirling his staff again in a mock salute, he whipped it around across the metal supports, the electrified end sending up a cloud of sparks. Geckoman quickly reached into a pouch on his belt, pulling out a handful of G-shaped boomerangs and hurling them with a sharp motion in the direction of The Dragon's face, unerringly managing to land three of them solidly upon his adversary's nose.

As Geckoman taunted, the dragon continued to tumble through the air, slowly trying to stabilize his position and get back upright. He had slowed down significantly, and had almost lost all sideways momentum, when he heard what the Lizard themed Gadgeteer had said. The Dragon looked furious, and was looking at him in disgust, ready to charge back in.

And then, he was knocked out cold. The ‘rangs hit their target even at a range much higher than they were intended for, and they hit it hard. The Dragon had just finally regained an upright position, as he was hit square in the face. At first, it looked like it wouldn’t affect him much. And then, his body went limp just a moment afterwards, his wings fading out of existence. The same applied to the Dragon-style head, which also disappeared as the man, now looking fully human, plummeted downwards, hitting the top of a nice and large tree after a short fall.
