Maelstrom - PL 11 - Uninverted

Recommended Posts

Sound good. Kind of sucks that I have to type all that again.

Players Name: Uninverted

Power Level: 11 (153 PPs)

Unspent PPs: 1

Characters Name: Maelstrom

Alternate Identity: John Stratos

Height: 6' 4''

Weight: 121

Hair: Gray

Eyes: Green

Description: He has a tall and insubstantial build. His hair is the color of storm clouds. He's got untrustworthy green eyes. Moves with an uncanny fluidity, and is rarely in the same spot for long.

History: John Stratos worked as a researcher for a large pharmaceutical company. When they moved offices, he was the only one entrusted to ride in the truck that carried unstable experimental chemicals. When they were on the side of a mountain road, a deer walked in front of the truck. The driver accidentally swerved of of the mountain, and John instinctively ran to the back to make sure that the chemicals were alright; they might still live if nothing broke open and poisoned them. But the truck flipped over unexpectedly and he hit his head on the ceiling/floor.

When he woke up, he was on the ground, mostly uninjured. He saw most of the jars containing the chemicals either broken open or or completely smashed. To his horror, he saw a blue liquid he didn't recognize all over him. He heard a sound behind him, and turned. It was a deer, maybe the same one as before. He felt a blinding anger at the thing for practically killing him, and before he knew what had happened, the deer was blown away by fierce winds. John saw that he had caused this, and also saw the potential for profit.

For a moment there I thought we'd be having lightning-charred deer for dinner. :)

Seriously, you're characters a 'bit' unfinished. If he used to be a researcher, I'd suggest in investing in his mental stats like int and wis. Same goes for skills, craft (especially chemical) and knowledge (probably life sciences) would be good. I'd also suggest moving the force field and flight out of the air control array. As it stands now, if you use your blast while in the air you'll start plummeting to the ground. Your toughness save bonus can't be that high either. Either the defense or the force field will have to drop but they can't add up to more than 20. On these boards the maximum trade-off is -4/+4 so that's either a defense bonus of +6 with a toughness bonus of +14 or the other way around.

Cost: Ability 4 + Combat 44 + Saves 25 + Skills 3 + Feats 1 + Powers (23 + 8 + 8) 39 = 116 PPs.

You still have 34 points to spend.

Also,

1. Environmental Control (Hamper, Half) is only 1 PP per rank, so you can have 20 ranks if you want (2,000 miles). Or you can buy Hamper (1/4) at 10 ranks as your Alt Power (range ~1 mile).

2. Deflect (All Ranged (2 PPs/rank), Reflection +1) can't be 7 ranks because that would require 21 PPs in the array (7 x 3 = 21), and you only have 20 points in the array. The max it can be is 6.

Cost: Ability 8 + Combat 44 + Saves 33 + Skills 3 + Feats 2 + Powers (25 + 19 + 16) 60 = 150 PPs.

1. Are you sure you want to leave Environmental Control [Hamper, Halve] at 10 ranks? It is unnecessarily underpowered.

2. By changing your Air Control to 11 ranks, it revalues all of your Alt Powers. You are welcome to leave them underpowered as they are, and in fact, you have to with Blast because it is already at PL. Or you could take an Attack/Save DC trade-off. Let me know what you decide.

3. I'm an unsure to what the Progression power feat bought with Flight refers. What are you progressing?
