Starlight's were meant to fly (IC)

Recommended Posts

"There's no time to debate it" replied Synth, flexing her multitudinous muscles "we need the edge. If you can get me on board, do it. Ill stay undercover, and see what I can do from the shadows..."

She turned to Starlight, giving the heroine a reassuring pat.

"If there is any trouble, I got your back, I promise. And when the time is right, give the signal, I'll act" she said, a pang of anxiety reaching her as the seconds counted down.

"Patience" she said to herself as much as anyone, before turning to Nikki.

"Although the clock is ticking. If you can do something, best do it now..."

"Very well, then. Ms. Hawthorne, prepare to take Synth on board the alien ship. I think you should be able to tell when it needs to happen." With that Starlight turned and walked out of the room. She quickly made her way out of the building entirely. She glanced up to where the alien ship seemed to fill the sky. Part of her was apprehensive about possibly putting herself in the hands of her enemies, but in truth she had done much more dangerous stunts before; and she knew that Synth would be there to help her in the background, so that made things easier.

Starlight lifted off and flew towards the alien ship, spreading her arms so they could see that she wasn't attacking. She stopped before the nose of the vessel and stared it down. "Well," she said. "Here I am. What will you do now?"

“I guess that our cue, hold on tight.â€

Synth had the sudden sensation of both falling and accelerating, or hot and cold and the overwhelming smell of sulfur. Then she was somewhere else, a rather grubby metal room with steam leaking from a nearby pipe.

“Sorry it can be a little rough; I have to cut through home so it’s a bit of a risk. But I think in this case it was worth it.â€

As she spoke there was a voice and from outside the room and in came one of the aliens giving Synth a chance to see one in the flesh.

The creature was a lot taller than Synth had expected being well over 6 foot tall and her skin was unexpected a mint green color. She also, unlike the other alien she’d seen, had human like hair though the shoulder length brown hair did seem to have a silver sheen. She didn’t seem quite as well build as the other alien she had seen and was wearing a jumpsuit embroidered, with great care and attention, with a number of colorful flowers. She was also talking to herself in the aliens own tongue.

Outside of the ship there was a lengthy pause whilst they obviously decided what to do with this sudden, and probably unexpected, surrender of Starlight. Then with a booming voice they gave their response.

“Do not attempt to move we are going to bring you on board our craft via a Transmat device.â€

There was a shimmering around Starlight and, in a far less disorientating journey than Synth, she was bought on board the vessel.

There standing at around 7 foot tall and now wearing all of her armor was the alien they had seen earlier.

On seeing the other alien enter, Synth quickly ducked behind some piece of alien engineering, pressing herself into the dimmer illumination.

Damn

She had got the colour wrong. Easily rectified. Her skin and hair instantly changed to the same hue as the alien she had seen.

The language would be a bigger hurdle. Still, nothing she could do about that.

She eyed up the alien's costume. If she could get that, her subterfuge would be that much better. She looked around, alert to the smell or sound, or even vibrations of any other aliens nearby...if she had the oppurtunity, it might be worth it....

He muscles coiled, ready to spring....

Starlight glanced all around her, resisting the urge to grow to put herself on the same eye level as the invaders, but she suppressed it. Obviously these creatures felt threatened by her; she didn't want to give them any reason to wreck havoc on the city below. Instead she stood her ground before them, crossing her arms and staring down the aliens one by one. "Well. I'm here. What did you want to say to me, again?"

The alien gestured to her guard who put away the weapon she was holding and held out her own to show she wasn’t armed..

“We may hail from the Khanate but we’re not total barbarians. I prefer not to hold my discussions in the Transmat room. I have a nearby conference room if you could follow me.†She gestured with one of her arms. “I am Commander Lavender and this is my ship, I promise you that no harm will befall you whilst we deal with this matter.â€

Meanwhile towards the rear of the ship cloaked in shadow Synth watched the other alien take a panel off of some of the piping and take readings all the while humming to herself as she carried out her work.

Perfect oppurtunity....

Synth wasn't in a rush. She had no idea how fast, or strong, the alien was. There was no need to take any risk.

Careful...

She was slow, silent, and patient. She circled up to the Alien whilst it was busy, walking on tip toe, her muscles coiled ready to pounce. She paused a second, studying the creature, wondering how best to attack. She knew human anatomy very well, a subject that was rather necessary for her own particular abilities. But there was no way of extrapolating that knowledge reliably to the alien physiology in front of her.

She tensed her muscles, and with a spring, lashed forward with lightning speed!

Starlight's skin prickled at the mention of the Stellar Khanate. She had visited that part of space only briefly, and had found almost every planet there in need of liberation. These four-armed humanoids didn't seem very familiar to her, but then there were many species in the galaxy and she had seen most of them. She followed the apparent leader of the group, keeping her hands in view at all time. "I don't suppose you will tell me what I am accused to doing, exactly," she said as they walked.

Totally engrossed in her work she was totally unprepared for Synth’s blistering attack. The alien collapsed into a corner her arms over her head mumblings something in her own languages.

Nikki lightly touched her shoulder “Do you feel that? We’re gang altitude. If you’re going to be okay I’ve really got to go.â€

Meanwhile Starlight was shown into a rather nice conference room, she wasn’t exactly being treated as a prisoner but it was clear she wasn’t allowed to go where she wished. With some experience with spacecraft she could feel the change of tone of the Anti-Grav’s, meaning the craft was probably slowly climbing.

“It seems that you assaulted one of the spawnlings of the current Pod leader of the Tine. Though I suspect there’s more going on what with all the tension going on in the area. It’s probably why they sent use rather than a Star Knight. Still I’m not complaining a commissions a commission.â€

Starlight took a chair around the conference table; the back was too tall and the arm rests were too long, but at least there were only two of them. "I remember the Trine," she said absently. "Genetic engineering by pre-historic interlopers, probably the Preservers, split the race into separate but distinct subspecies. Earliest recorded governments utilized a caste-based system divided along those genetic predispositions towards war, interpersonal relations, tool use, abstract thinking..." She shifted in the chair and studied the leader of the vessel. "The current political framework promises full social mobility, though, irrespective of one's genetic caste. The man I fought with wanted to overthrow the current government and return to the castes. With, of course, the warriors on top." She glanced around the room, her next words clearly encompassing the entire ship's crew. "I assume your entire crew is warrior-forms? With a few engineers, or warrior-engineer crossbreeds?"

Synth squatted down by the Alien. She pulled the thing out of site, behind some of the panelling, putting it as far out of view as possible. Who knows how long the alien would be out for...but Synth would not kill the creature. There did not appear to be anything she could find to use as binds. Who knows how long it would remain unconscious?

She didn't know if the alien's culture had any taboo on nudity like human ones, but now was not the time for modesty. As quickly as she could...and she was quick, she removed the aliens clothes, and spread them out. She spent a moment studying the creature and making a few adaptations to her own physique, before putting on the aliens clothes, and going off in search of Starlight...

The room next to Synth’s arrival was a rather cramped looking engine room of some kind. After a few seconds thought all the displays flashed into life displaying their information in Swedish. Also in the bottom right hand corner of the central display appeared a hologram of one of the aliens.

“It seems you are using an unspecified language for your displays. You may suffer compatibility issue using this for your display. Do you wish assistance in your task?†her voice was also in Synth’s “native†tongue.

Back in the conference room Lavender gave a sweet smile.

“It’s ironic that our kind have such a similar name to our current employers. Don’t worry we wish you no harm, most of my crew were still young when you stop the revolution. Though I won’t deny that the chance to capture the famous Starlight won’t affect my status back home.â€

She touched a display an hologram of a squid like creature it had a size to it even in this reduced scale.

“This is Nes-46 of the Tine, Pod leader of Soo-Tine VII.†A key press and a much smaller squid appeared by it side “This is Nes-456, one of his spawn, who whilst one Earth for research you are alleged to have attack.â€

It was hard to tell the creature looked much alike but the smaller creature might well be that Starlight had faced when she had first met Nikki.

Swedish?

It had been several months since Synth had spoken Swedish, and she had barely heard any in that time. A few Swedish movies on TV, that had been it. It took a moment for her brain to kick into gear.

"" she replied dutifully, thankful for the lucky break.

""

She shuffled slightly. It wasn't that she wasn't good at lying. It was that her brain was wired up to be incapably of it. She dearly hoped no penetrating questions would be asked...

Starlight narrowed her eyes at the sight of Nes, or at least Nes' spawn apparently. She shifted in the chair, barely holding back the temptation to hiss at the hologram. "I fought against it and its minions, yes. I even attacked the... spawnling. It had infiltrated Earth, breaking numerous Lor laws regarding proper interaction with a protected species. It was attempting to subvert aboriginal organizations and turn the world to its own ends." She sniffed sharply. "I cannot imagine Nes-46 sent mercenaries across space for something like this, though."

Sleipnir’s Engineering

The main display changed to a schematic of the ship despite its size the actual crew space was quite small. Most of the size was taken up with massive amounts of equipment to propel the ship through interstellar space.

“The Sleipnir is currently in the process of reaching orbit, it current course is to the Soo-Tine system. Transit time is an estimated 21.3 hours. The Sleipnir has a crew of 12 plus currently the alien Starlight…Scanning…Error internal sensors show an additional alien. Shall I inform the Commander?â€

Sleipnir’s Conference Room

Commander Lavender gave laugh and banged the conference table so hard as to cause Starlight’s "escort" to jump.

“You are just as sharp as the Holo-Vids make you out to be, no wonder my Gene-Mother choose to side with you. You’re right, it seems the Lor were in this system on other matters and detected the Tine craft leaving. And the Lor are very protective of systems under there protectorate status. There are blockading Soo-Tine system until the truth can be determined, hence the Tine being so keen on bring you to help them determine the truth." she gave a little smile "And I like to think of myself as a Bounty Hunter rather than a Mercenary; I won’t get my crew involved in a war. Stop one perhaps but no more than that."

Starlight shook her head. "So you are bringing me to a Lor tribunal so they can hear my side of the story? The side where Nes is a murdering cephalpod who deserves to be locked in a quantum-state prison for a few decades? Well, I cannot say that this is how I would choose to travel to an Imperial tribunal, but nevertheless." She relaxed slightly and considered Synth's position on-board; hopefully the other shapeshifter wouldn't do anything too drastic before Starlight could explain the new circumstances. "Just a question. Why did the Tine send you for me? I do not see how my testimony will help any of them."

“That I don’t know, I suspect that they have other plans in mind. I not a creature of politics I’m paid to deliver you into your custody. Though I won’t deliver you into direct harm if I can, though I suspect you are more than capable of looking after yourself.†She gave a broad smile.

“But now I think we should make progress to Soo-Tine.â€

Engine Room

Suddenly all around Synth the displays lit up with a series of graphics and information. Even though she couldn’t understand most of information it was obvious that the craft was powering its engine’s to leave the Earth and go far beyond that.

Although The logical thing was to hide, as a stowaway, until the Ship had reached its destination, Synth had sworn to look after Starlight, the...hostage? Captive? It was not entirely clear. Guest, even.

She certainly wasn't about to leave Starlight to the fates.

She shuddered slightly, aware of the cold, hard, and deadly vacuum of space she presumed would be outside the ship. She may not have been strictly organic, but she was organic enough that the rigours of outer space would kill, more slowly, but kill her nevertheless.

Steeling herself against the thought, she stepped out into the corridor and walked in an even pace and gait down the ship, to see if she could find Starlight....

Starlight considered the options available to her. She could attack the mercenaries and maybe escape, but that would simply lead them to attack the city in order to find her again. Besides, Synth was on board and Starlight couldn't simply abandon her. The shapeshifter leaned forward and nodded to the captain. "If we're going to be getting underway," she said, "do you mind if I look around the ship a little?" Besides, the trip was bound to be a long one, and there would be more chances to slip off before they reached Soo-Tine.

She sat there and gave Starlights question some serious though, she looked quite solemn and it look for a minute she’d refuse Starlights request. But then she gave a broad smile.

“Of cause I’d be happy to allow you to wander my ship, but I must refuse you access to certain areas. Sleipnir Starlight has level 5 access to the ship and facilities. That means you can’t access the cargo hold or any of the engineering sections, and of cause you won’t be able to access certain data or use hyperspace communication. If you want I can arrange for you to use the Ansible to contact Earth.â€

She stood up and gestured away Starlight’s guard.

“You have around 20 hours before we reach Soo-Tine. If you excuse me I have business to attend to.â€

Starlight nodded. "Very well, then. I trust you'll be able to find me when it's time." She stood and walked out of the conference room, looking around quickly. She started wandering the ship almost at random, testing to see how far her security clearance would let her get while simultaneously being as courteous as possible to the crew. In truth she was trying to meet up with Synth; tracking down the other shapeshifter would be all but impossible, so Starlight had decided to simply make herself visible and let the other heroine make contact.

Synth caught the scent of Starlight before bumping into the heroine. They did almost collide, turning the corner of a corridor almost simultaneously.

"Its me!" whispered Synth, looking around to see if anyone might be listening.

"Not a good disguise..." she acknowledged. It was passable, but she was living on borrowed time before someone properly scrutinised her, or asked her a question in some alien gibberish.

"...what happened? are you harmed? are our...captors...hostile?"

She had a million and one questions of course, all urgent, but she forced herself to wait for Starlight's reply.
