A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Office (IC)

The newly-christened, hunchbacked villain turned and saw the black-clad hero floating above him. He lifted a metal-clad arm and two extra arms sprouting from the back of the armor did the same. "Hero! Stand aside! This is my day of reckoning, and I shall not be denied my vengeance!" The Hive Tyrant gestured and the glinting swarm of nearly-invisible robots floated through the air until they engulfed Voltage.

They attacked him from every direction. Some dive-bombed his eyes and ears, others grabbed pieces of his suit or skin and tried to rip and pull. Still others merely alighted on any scrap of bare skin they could find and started doing their best to burrow into the young man's body.

The swarms inside the lobby wasted no time in deciding who the more threatening target was. Two augured in on Ironclad as she was still assessing the situation, one attacking the seals and joints of the armor while the other tried to batter at the superheroine, forming its mass into huge hammers that smacked her from side to side. Thanks to her armor and padding the attacks didn't mean much to her, but her armor popped up a warning in the corner of her vision; the swarm's biting mandibles were beginning to work through her armor.

That was a problem that needed an immediate solution. Ironclad mentally flipped down the list of her weapons and discarded most of them. She didn't need to destroy the swarms one-by-one, she needed to get them all! Her only option seemed the cluster munitions, so she popped the seals on her armor's back and shoulders, and fired the many, many small rockets. They found the centers of the warm and detonated, sending shockwaves through the enemy groups. It even drew the attention of the tiny robots chewing at the building's reinforcements, and it augured in to attack her.

Voltage roared in pain as the tiny swarm of bugs attacked him. Not to be deterred, he teleported, discorporating into electrical current before reappearing nearby. He gathered energy into his hands and sent a burst of current into Hive Tyrant's body. The villain was still on his feet, but looked a little worse for wear.

He fired off another email, asking Ironclad how she was doing.

Ironclad was busy at the moment. She let loose with another salvo of the massed missiles, but the swarms managed to move their constituent parts around enough to avoid taking any damage. Most of the flying robo-ants were regrouping following her last attack, but one group managed to rush her in a concentrated mass. They impacted her armor solidly, but without doing too much to the woman inside.

The Hive Tyrant howled under Voltage's electric assault. "Bug-brain," he howled, reaching out with one mechanical exo-arm to pick up a nearby car. He hefted it and tossed it at the hero, shaking his other arm in defiance. "I'll squash you like the insignificant irritant you are!" He gestured grandly and the swarm swooped and spun in the air, before diving straight at Voltage.

Voltage managed to dodge the flying swarm, dancing out of way as it dove at him. He twisted in mid air and sent a blast of silvery energy at them. He watched as it coursed through the swarm, probably doing significant damage and frying it in the process.

He hoped that Jessica was doing okay on her end of the bargain. Whoever was attacking this place wasn't very smart, but they were certainly dangerous. Sometimes, that was worse. He shook his head and concentrated on his foe, the other thing that was out there attacking him. This was going to suck a lot before he finished the fight.

Ironclad flew around the room, trailing a glittering cloud of very angry, very small robots. She closed the missile ports in her armor and powered up the wrist blasters, then let loose a blast at one of the clouds that seemed to be getting interested in some of the civilians. She didn't relish the idea of the swarms coming after her, but if they were than at least they weren't going after the bystanders. The swarm trailing her put on a boost of speed, but the battlesuited heroine batted them away without taking any damage.

"Noooo!" The Hive Tyrant moaned as Voltage's electricity crackled through the fog. The individual pieces fell from the sky like sand, and the criminal snapped his hand forward. A coil of black carbon-carbon wire spooled out and tried to wrap around Voltage and pull him from the sky. At the same time the cyberpathic heroes could hear him call over the radio waves. "Soldiers! Defend your king and master!" Inside Ironclad watched one of the swarms turn toward the door and eat away at it, chewing through the glass and metal to make a fist-sized hole. The last group flew through and straight at Voltage, forming into a solid mass and trying to knock the flying hero out of the sky.

Voltage flew upward, narrowly dodging the swarm. This guy was annoying, there was no telling how many of these swarms he had. Ah, well, time to start fighting him instead.

He raised his hand and a current of silver electricity hit Hive Tyrant dead on. Voltage smelled the faint tinge of ozone in the air. With any luck, Hive Tyrant wouldn't be able to take many more shots like that.

At least, Voltage hoped.
