Questionnaire (The HellQ)

Introduction

Who are you? Sum yourself up in one sentence.

"In a nutshell; just a masked man with a bow trying to do his part."

Do you have any nicknames, street names, titles, or nom de plume?

"Quarrel, obviously. When not in-costume? Not really."

What is your full birth name?

"Enzo Amancio Flores."

Where do you live?

"Currently in a small apartment on the South Freedom, near the boardwalk. Rent's murder, but it gets the job done."

How old are you? What year were you born (if applicable)?

"Twenty-one. I was born on June 11th, 1990 at the Banner Heart Hospital in Mesa, Arizona."

Physical Traits

What is your gender? If not applicable, please explain.

"Really? Ay dios mio, I'm male."

How would you describe your heritage?

"Latino-American. My papa was an official immigrant from Mexico, and my mother was native-born in America."

How tall are you?

"Approximately? Five feet and ten inches."

What is your body type?

"I don't know. Athletic, I guess. In pretty good shape."

Do you have any particular weaknesses, such as allergies or physical disabilities?

"Other than a little hay fever, nothing like that. Not invulnerable or super-tough, though, so always need to be ready physically."

How do you carry yourself? Are you graceful, or heavy on your feet? Can you be stealthy, do you walk with confidence?

"I know what I'm doing. When the time comes, I can be a sombra, and that's usually how I have to play it with these criminals."

Describe your skin, eye, and hair color.

"I take after my papa, I suppose. Olive skinned, dark hair and hazel eyes. A good-looker, as my mama puts it."

How do you wear your hair, if applicable? Do you have facial hair?

"Don't usually let it get too long, so I can either slick it back or comb it forward without it falling into my eyes. As for facial hair, I try and keep it clean-shaven. Sometimes there's some stubble, but nothing that really stands out."

Do you consider yourself attractive? Do others?

"Good looking? I don't know about that, but my mama always said I wasn't hard on the eyes. I've had a few novias over the years, so I guess I'm passable."

Do you have any scars, tattoos, piercings, or birthmarks?

"No piercings or tattoos, though I do have a birthmark on my shoulder. Also got a handful of scars, but that comes with the territory; entiendes?"

Do you resemble anyone famous?

"Don't think so."

Do you have a dominant hand?

"I'm right-handed, amigo."

What kind of clothing do you wear?

"Nothing fancy. Blue jeans and tee-shirts are fine, and blue coveralls when I'm working on cars. None of that designer crap that costs a fortune, y'know?"

Do you wear makeup?

"No."

What is your vocal range? Is your voice distinctive in some way?

"Average, I guess. Not deep, but not squeaky either. Don't have much of an accent either, but I can speak Spanish like a native, so I guess that's something."

Do you have any distinctive habits, nervous tics, or mannerisms? Where did they come from, and what causes them? Do other people notice and remark on these habits? Do they annoy you or other people?

"Not that I'm aware of."

History

Where do you come from?

"I was born in Mesa, Arizona. That's my hometown, too."

Have you made any major moves, or do you live in your hometown?

"Moved to Freedom City back in August. That's a pretty big move, yeah."

Do you feel loyal to your country of citizenship? Do you consider yourself patriotic? How do you feel about the government of your country?

"Am I loyal to the United States? Of course, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Do I consider myself patriotic? That's harder for me to say. I wouldn't throw my life away for the government, but I would for its people."

How do you feel about the place you come from?

"Mesa? It's... well, it's mi casa. My folks still live there, and my sister's going to Rio Salado College. I'm going to try and visit when I can, but we'll see how things go."

Where is your home town? What was/is it like?

"Mesa's in Arizona, cabron. Other than being a sauna all day, then a giant refrigerator at night, it isn't so bad now. Things were worse, but they're shaping up now."

Growing up, were most of the people you knew similar to you, or were you somehow a minority? How did that affect you?

"Not really a minority, exactly. I mean, when I was going to school, it was pretty well integrated between everyone, but there was definitely more Latinos in the immediate area where I lived. Probably just a coincidence."

Is there something you've always been really good at or really bad at? How has that affected your life?

"I've always had a thing for cars. Well, not always, but since I first got into auto shop in Sun Valley High. Found out I was pretty good at that sort of stuff, so I went to trade school for it. Also took up the Archery Club while I was there, and found I was pretty decent at it. Decent enough, anyway, to use it instead of shooting people with guns."

Were there any traumatic experiences in your early years (death of a family member, abandonment, orphaned at an early age)?

“When I was a kid, we were victims to a drive-by shooting. Nobody but my mama was hurt, and now she’s paralyzed. That’s about when I officially knew the streets weren’t safe anymore in my suburb.â€

Briefly describe a defining moment in your childhood and how it influenced your life.

“Before I met The Underdogs, it was a one-man crusade on my part. Nothing short of a vengeful war against people I could barely compete with, and for no other reason than personal closure. It was them that really showed me the definition of what it means to be a hero. While I might not have been in the right place when I started, I learned from them, and figured it out along the way. It’s why I keep doing what I’m doing, instead of having just hung-up the tights after Los Muertos was on the run.â€

What stupid things did you do when you were younger?

“Other than put on a crappy costume and get into fights with gangbangers using little more than the equivalent of a dime-store archery set? Not as much as you’d think, cabron.â€

Where did you go to school? How much school did you have, and did you enjoy it?

“I completed Sun Valley High School in Mesa, Arizona. It was all right, I guess, once everything settled down. After that, I decided to go to trade school instead of college, getting my degree as an Automotive Repair Specialist, which was actually a lot of fun.â€

Do you have any mementos of your childhood? What are they, and why did you keep them? If you have none, why not?

“Still have my old Quarrel costume, even though it’s terri-bad. It’s a reminder of how I got started. I also have a box full of old pictures from when I lived in Mesa, mostly full of mi familia, amigos, and amigas.â€

When did you decide to become a hero? Why? Did anyone influence you one way or another in the decision?

“After a drive-by shooting by the Los Muertos gang that left my mother paralyzed, I figured out that nobody else was really able to do anything about it. I was angry, and so I turned to the only thing I could think of. It wasn’t for the right reasons, but The Underdogs set me straight. Been at it ever since.â€

Is the reason you give people for becoming a hero different than your real reason? If so, why?

“I don’t generally tell people my own reasons for why I got into the hero business in the first place, so I guess not.â€

Do you have any deep, dark secrets in the past that may come back to haunt you?

“Not really. Unless you count my secret identity, then yeah, that could be a problem if people found out.â€

Do you represent yourself as being different from who you really are? Why?

“Sort of. As Quarrel, I try to be serious, whereas when I’m out of costume I’m more… me, I guess; friendly and down-to-earth.â€

If you do have these secrets, what do you fear would happen if the truth became known? How far would you go to protect those secrets?

“If my identity were to be compromised, people might go after my friends and family. That would be muy malo. In order to keep my secret identity a secret, I might have to do some things I’ll likely regret… I just hope it never comes to that.â€

Do you have any sort of criminal record? If so, is it public knowledge?

“Never been on the wrong side of the tracks officially, so nope.â€

Family

What are your biological parents' names?

“My father’s name is Alberto Flores. My mother is Monica Flores.â€

Were you raised by them? If not, please explain and describe who raised you.

“I was. Spent some time with my grandparents after my mama was injured, but they did the bulk of the work.â€

What was their standing in the community? What did/do they do for a living?

“My dad was an upstanding guy in the construction business; wasn’t affluent, but he was amiable enough. My mother was a substitute teacher, and I hear real good with the elementary kids.â€

Where are your parents now?

“Still at home in the same house I grew up in. Mesa’s where they settled down, and while times have gotten tough, they’re not going anywhere.â€

Did your family stay in one area or move around a lot?

“Same place ever since I was born. Before then? Don’t know. Maybe. Never really talked much about what they did before my sister was born.â€

How did you get along with their parents? How do you get along with them now (if applicable).

“Mi familia was everything, and that’s how I was raised. While my dad was always pretty busy, he always found a way to spend time with us. We’re real close, especially after what happened to mom.â€

How do your parents view you now, or how would they?

“I’m the same kid they’ve always known, as far as they know. How would they look at me if their little boy told them he was off fighting criminals and metahumans with nothing more than a mask, a technologically-superior archery set, and a fistful of idealism? Probably as their kid being muy tonto.â€

Do you have any siblings? If so how many and what are their names? Describe your relationship with them.

“Just my sister, Rebecca. She’s the only other sibling I’ve got, and my older sister. We get along well enough when we’re not at each others’ throats, but we’re still family at the end of the day. She just started going to Rio Salado as a Business Major, so she’s usually too busy to talk these days.â€

What was your birth order in the family?

“Rebecca, then me the next year.â€

Where are your siblings now (if applicable)? Do they have families of their own? What do they do?

“Rebecca still lives with mama and papa, though she’s attending Rio Salado now. As far as working, I don’t know. She was looking for work when I left, and I don’t know if she found anything yet.â€

Do you stay in touch with them or have you become estranged?

“I try to call every weekend when I’m off, especially to check up on my mom to see if she needs anything. We’re still family, and we’re close, so I try hard to make sure I’m not getting too absorbed in this whole alter ego thing.â€

Do you love or hate one member of the family in particular?

“Nah. Family is family. Sure, we argue, but hate? Absolutely not.â€

Is any member of the family special to you in any way (perhaps, as a confidant, mentor, or arch-rival)?

“Not really special, exactly. I think my mom and I are pretty tight these days since the incident, but that’s more of a… situational sort of thing. She was always there with advice when I needed it, and I try to be her go-to for talking gossip these days.â€

Are there any black (or white) sheep in the family (including you)? If so, please explain.

“Not that I’m aware of. Grandparents are on the up-and-up, and mom and dad are pretty much the same way. Rebecca can be a handful, but she’s never been in any trouble.â€

Do you have a notorious or celebrated ancestor? If so, please explain, including how it has affected your life.

“Not that I’m aware of.â€

Do you have a partner and children currently? If so, please describe them.

“Currently single, and hope to keep it that way.â€

If you do not have a partner or children, do you want them someday? How firm are you in your opinion on this, and what might change your mind?

“Maybe when it’s time to give up the heroic gimmicks. It’d take a pretty special senorita to convince me otherwise.â€

What type of person would be your ideal mate?

“I… huh. Don’t really have an answer for that.â€

Relationships

Do you have any close friends? If so, please describe them, and how you came to be close to them.

“Had a handful, at one point. We don’t keep in touch much these days, having gone our own ways since high school. Back when The Underdogs were still around, Handiwork was probably my best friend. He was sharp, a wiz when it came to anything that needed making, and was the guy who got me this costume and all my new archery stuff. Burnadette and him were ‘a thing’ for a while, but when we split up the team, I don’t really know what happened to her. Handiwork and I still write every now and then, but that’s about it.â€

Do you have a best friend? If so, how did they become your best friend? How close are you to your best friend?

“Handiwork’s probably as close as I’m going to get to a mejor amigo. Me and him were about as tight as friends got back home, and he saved my butt more than once from me being stupid.â€

If you were to go missing, who would worry about you?

“Mi familia and Handiwork, for sure.â€

Have you lost any loves? If so, how did it happen, and what did you do?

“As in, they’re dead? No. As in break-ups? Yeah. Twice. Just puppy love though, y’know? High school flings. I think we’re all over it by now, but I used to just... I don’t know. Just try and move on, back when I was school.â€

Do you have any bitter enemies? If so, please describe them and their history with you.

“Not sure. Maybe. If I do, I don’t know who these guys are.â€

If you have enemies, how do you think they might attempt to work against you in the future?

“If I had any? Ay dios mio, who’s to say? Ambush, family threats… could be anything. â€

What is the worst thing someone has done to you?

“I got beat down pretty hard once by some gangbangers back home. Wasn’t looking so good there for a while, but I managed to get away. Papa practically flipped when I told him I just ‘got into a fight,’ considering how bruised and bloody I was when I staggered back into my room.â€

Where do your loyalties lie? In what order?

“That’s… hrm. I guess to doing what’s right first, then my own well-being, family, or my friends, depending on how things are going at that time. Then the law, I suppose.â€

Who or what do you trust the most? Why?

“My family. I mean, if you can’t trust your familia, who can you trust?â€

Who or what do you despise? Why?

“I hate organized crime. Call em’ what you will; gangbangers, the mob, syndicates, whatever. They’re all the same. They’re like… like wild animals, preying on the weak to get ahead; pushing drugs onto children and using scapegoats as sacrifices for their own petty gains.â€

What qualities do you admire most in other people? Are these qualities you possess?

“A little honesty goes a long way. That’s how I was raised, and I took it to heart.â€

What qualities do you hate most in other people? Do you have any of those qualities?

“Bullies are the worst kind of scum, using intimidation and fear to pressure people into doing things they don’t want. While I hate to admit it, I can be that person sometimes when in-costume; sometimes it’s useful, but it’s not something I want to ever have to rely upon.â€

Do you have a secret identity? If so, who knows it? Do you hide it from people who are close to you? Why?

“My identity’s a secret, yeah. The only people who know who I am are the former members of The Underdogs, and it’s my most closely guarded secret. I mean, could you imagine what people could do to me if they knew who I was?â€

Do you work well on teams and in groups? Are you a leader or a follower?

“Used to be on a team, so I’ve figured that dynamic out. I wouldn’t say I’m a leader – could be, I guess – but I generally play second-fiddle to whomever’s got the most experience.â€

Are you on a super team? If so, how do you get along with your comrades? Do you trust them, or do you have secrets from them?

“Formerly. We worked well together, till’ Street Sweeper passed on – Dios tenga en su Gloria – and the team split apart when we couldn’t decide on who the new leader should have been. I’d still trust them with my life, but I guess that’s pretty moot now. As for secrets, they know who I am – I mean, behind the mask – but I’d bet my life on it they won’t willingly tell anyone else.â€

Are you a member of any church, fraternal organization, club, committee, political party, or other group? How much time do you spend on that?

“I used to go to a Catholic church with my parents, but other than that, not so much these days. I like to think I’m a Christian at heart, but sometimes I have doubts, and I’m certainly not going to go around preaching to everyone I see about God. Let them find their own way; it’s their choice, and I’m not going to slap their wrists for what they believe in… especially given all the weird, alien things we’ve seen in the last few decades here on Earth.â€

Personality & Beliefs

Who are your heroes?

“My family. Hardworking, stubborn, but above all caring, they’ve been there for me through thick and thin.â€

Did you ever become disillusioned with former heroes or idols? If so, why and what were the circumstances?

“Not really. I mean, I knew of superheroes, but I never really followed them too closely save for a couple of comic books. As a kid, I remember my favorite member of the Freedom League was the Raven; the old one, not the new one. I actually think I’ve still got those old Raven issues somewhere back home under my bed.â€

Do you like being a hero? If so, what is the most rewarding part? If not, what makes you keep doing it?

“I used to think that once Mesa was cleaned up, I’d just hang up the Quarrel costume for good. Turned out I just couldn’t let it go; like everything except being a hero was so… I don’t know, inconsequential by comparison. As Enzo, all I can really do is fix cars. As Quarrel? As Quarrel I can fight crime, I can save lives, I can be a symbol for people to look up to as I make Freedom City a little bit safer for everyone else. I think that’s why I do it; to do my part.â€

Is there anything that would make you give up hero work, or even switch sides?

“If there is, it’d have to be something pretty serious.â€

What are your short term goals (what would you like to be doing within a year)?

“I just got to Freedom City a few months ago, but it looks like working solo’ll be harder than I thought. Getting a team together seems like it’d be a good idea, so there’s that. Outside of my nightly runs as Quarrel, I’d like to get out of this apartment and get a house. But hey, guess we’ll see how things go.â€

What are your long term goals (what would you like to be doing twenty years from now)?

“Haven’t thought that far ahead yet. I mean, the team thing might be further down the road, but I’m shooting for something sooner. Maybe a better job? That’d be nice; preferably one where I don’t’ need to work so frequently, or has more days off or something.â€

What is your greatest fear? Why? What do you do when something triggers this fear?

“My friends and family being victimized, or worse. I just… I don’t know what I’d do if something else were to happen to them.â€

Is there anything you would give your life for?

“Again, my family. My friends, too. For my country, or – if it’s a last resort – to stop someone from harming someone else. I can only pray it doesn’t come to that.â€

How do you feel about money and material wealth? Do you desire it or disdain it? Are you miserly with what you have, or do you like to share? Is it a mark of success, or a means to an end?

“More money would be nice. Means less work, which means more time on the streets, which means more criminals behind bars. If, I don’t know, I had excess funds, I’d be more than willing to donate it to some sort of youth recreation center or something like that, but if not, it might be better used to help keep myself stocked and supplied as Quarrel. I mean, I’d like to think either way I’ll be putting it to good use.â€

How do you generally treat others?

“By the Golden Rule, cabron: the way they treat others.â€

Are you a trusting person? Has your trust ever been abused?

“Trust is earned, not given. Haven’t had my trust abused yet, since I like to think I know how to pick my friends.â€

Are you introverted (shy and withdrawn) or extroverted (outgoing)? Do you have a lot of self-confidence?

“I don’t mind stepping out on the town from time to time. Hard to find time, mind you, to get out there and socialize. I don’t think I’ve got much problem making new amigos or amigas… at least, when I’m not in costume.â€

How do you act around attractive, available members of your preferred sex?

“Well… uh… I might make a pass when I’m off-the-clock, but otherwise, it’s business first, y’know?â€

What are your most annoying habits?

“Handiwork always said I had a problem of ‘compromising the plan,’ as he put it. Guess I’m kind of finicky when it comes to strategies, and if it doesn’t sit well with me, I tend to take a different approach.â€

Do you feel contempt for any general category of people? Who are they, and why?

“Mobsters and their kind. They’re the scum of the earth, despreciable mierda. I’m not talking about just kids hard on their luck who turned to crime, but the ones who choose to live like predators. Those are the ones that deserve a cell in prison for the things they’ve done.â€

What is your favorite food? Do you prefer any particular type of food? Do you take the time to enjoy your food, or do you eat as fast as you can?

“Chinese food’s no doubt my favorite. Any chance I can get some real Chinese cuisine, I take my time. Some nice Sweet and Sour Pork or some Sesame Chicken? Mmm, mmm.â€

What is your favorite drink (alcoholic or otherwise)?

“I like a Tequila Sunrise to get things started, then switch to something lighter like Rum and Coke.â€

What is your favorite treat (dessert)?

“Hrm. Cake Batter Ice Cream.â€

Are there any specific foodstuffs that you find disgusting or refuse to eat?

“Asparagus. I mean, have you ever eaten a lot of asparagus and then used the bathroom? Repugnante.â€

What is your favorite color? Are there any colors you dislike?

“Don’t really dislike any colors, but I do like the color blue. Darker the better, like a nice navy or indigo.â€

What sort of music do you like? Is there any that you hate?

“Not too fond of rap or metal, but classic and alternative rock are pretty good. Don’t listen to many bands specifically though save for Madman Finale; mostly just whatever happens to be on the radio.â€

If you have a favorite scent, what is it?

“Uh… not really?â€

Do you have a favorite animal?

“The national bird of Guatemala, the Quetzal. Ever since that documentary on avian species in different countries, I’ve… been a bit fascinated with it.â€

What is your most treasured possession? Why?

“The Montezooma, probably. My pride and joy in automotives; built her up from scratch.â€

Do you enjoy "roughing it", or do you prefer your creature comforts?

“Never even been in the woods, so I don’t know. Guess I’m not much of a woodsman, amigo.â€

Is there a job or a task you would absolutely refuse to do?

“Sitting in a cubicle all day. Ay Dios mio, just sitting there… ugh.â€

Do you consider yourself a spiritual person? If so, how do your beliefs affect your life? How important is it to you?

“That’s kind of a touchy question. I believe in God, but I don’t let that dominate my life. I pray when I can, but most of the time, other things just seem to take priority. I have my own life to live, and I’d like to live it the way I choose.â€

Was your faith influenced or molded by anyone special?

“Mi familia. I grew up Catholic, and my dad always took us to church, making sure I got baptized early in life.â€

If you belong to a religious organization, how often do you attend? Do you have a specific place of worship, or friends within the organization? How much do you agree with the beliefs of your organization?

“I try to get to Mass once a month, but sometimes it’s just not something I can get around to going. Long nights, y’know?â€

Could you kill? Have you killed?

“While I’d prefer not to… if there’s no other way, if there can’t be any other alternative, I would be willing to.â€

What circumstances led to you forming that conviction, or taking that action?

“If it comes down to the wire – where I have to choose between taking a life or them taking another – I would rather have one death on my hands than many more. Dios, ayudame…â€

Are there circumstances under which you believe it is permissible to kill? What are they?

“To save a life… or my own. There can’t be any other alternative.â€

How would you react to watching someone kill another person? Would your reaction be different if the killer was a friend or an enemy of yours?

“I… don’t know. I’ve never been in that position, and hope to never be.â€

How would you react if something important was stolen from you?

“I would probably be angry. They were right there, close enough to touch me, maybe, and took something from me.â€

How would you react to public humiliation?

“With shame, most likely, but I would never show it. Admit my mistake, move on, forget about it.â€

How would you react if a good friend or relative were purposely or accidentally killed? Has it happened to you?

“I don’t feel comfortable answering this.â€

What do you consider to be the worst crime someone could commit and why?

“There are a lot of vile, unforgivable things. I’m sorry. I just don’t want to discuss those things.â€

If your life were to end in 24 hours, what five things would you do in those remaining hours?

1.) Write up a Last Will & Testament.

2.) Confess my Secret Identity.

3.) Try and contact The Underdogs to bequeath my Superhero Equipment.

4.) Make peace with God.

5.) Try and meet the original Raven. Would settle for the second Raven.

Career & Training

Do you have any special training in your hero skills? If so, where and how did you get it?

“I’d like to say I learned the ropes the hard way, but that’s not really true. The Underdogs taught me most of it, and Street Sweeper did the bulk of the work. I was pretty good with a bow, but with some practice, some training in acrobatics and stealth, and a bit of teamwork, I got to where I am today. Wasn’t easy, but hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained.â€

Who taught you the most about your heroing abilities? What was your relationship with that person?

“Street Sweeper, Dios tenga en su Gloria. He taught me the ropes; more so the practical stuff than the actual tenets of my skill. Subtlety, speed, strategy – the three S’s to victory. They get the job done, and that’s all that needs to happen some nights.â€

Do you have any particularly unusual skills? How did you acquire them?

“Other than archery, not really. It’s just a little something I picked up in high school, and happened to be a natural. I’ve put that skill to good use the last few years as Quarrel, so I’m glad I picked it up when I did.â€

Do you do something besides hero work for a living? Have you ever done anything else, or do you plan to?

“Currently, I’m a mechanic at Frank’s Auto Emporium near the Boardwalk in South Freedom, working forty hours a week Monday through Thursday. It’s not my first job as a mechanic, but it’s the first here in Freedom City.â€

What is your preferred combat style?

“Like a sombra; far away and where they can’t see me coming so I can capitalize on the element of surprise.â€

Have you ever received any awards or honours?

“Not officially, though I’ve been praised for my service with The Underdogs in the takedown of the leaders of Los Muertos alongside the rest of the team.â€

What skill areas would you like most to improve in? Is there anything you can't do that you wish desperately you could?

“While I’m pretty handy mechanically, electronics just… seem out of reach. I’d like to learn some chemistry, too, so I can reproduce some of the arrows Handiwork had for me back when we were working together. I mean, I can sometimes cobble them together, but they’re not as sophisticated as they used to be.â€

How do you act around people who are more skilled than you in areas you'd like to improve? Are you jealous, or do you try and learn?

“A few pointers from one protagonist to another certainly couldn’t hurt, though I’m sometimes jealous of metas – particularly the ones who are super-smart.â€

Lifestyle & Hobbies

What is a normal day for you? How do you feel when something interrupts this routine?

“Typical day? Wake up, eat breakfast, and check the news. From there, I either hit the streets if it’s the weekend or head into work. At work, it’s business as usual: get as much done as I can, and do a muy bien job at it. When I’m out and about as Quarrel, it’s pretty much the same. I patrol, look for trouble, and deal with it. Interruptions are just a part of the job description; you learn to adapt.â€

Do you have any hobbies, or interests outside hero work? What are they, and where did you pick them up?

“I already mentioned archery and auto shop back when I was at Sun Valley High. Beyond that, I really like history; particularly South American and Eastern European history. I guess I get that from my mom, who’s a big history buff herself.â€

What do you do for fun?

“As bad as it sounds, I like to watch old movies. You know, things with Bella Lugosi in ‘Dracula’, Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes, Grace Kelly in ‘Dial M for Murder’… stuff like that. I like the newer movies too, but I don’t get much of a chance to visit the movies these days between work and… uh… work. I like to go out and socialize, but, y’know, shortage of time.â€

Do you have a costume? What does it look like?

“I like to think it’s very distinctive. My outfit as Quarrel was made from a composite of leather and Kevlar by Handiwork, and styled in the motif of dark Aztec colors. It’s got a few mosaic designs incorporated into it, with shades of dark gold, red, and black. Dark blue, however, is the primary hue, which matches the hooded cape and mask I wear with the costume itself. The mask is styled after an eagle, much like the ones worn by Eagle Warriors, with a long beak protrusion that goes downwards.â€

How do you normally dress when not in costume?

“Blue jeans and a tee-shirt are fine for me, cabron. Don’t care for all that fancy designer stuff. When working, it’s light-blue grease-stained coveralls.â€

What do you wear to bed most nights?

“That’s kind of personal, amigo. Usually, depends on when I get in that night, which means sleeping in the same clothes I wore that day if I’m not out on the streets as Quarrel.â€

Do you wear any special jewelry? What is it, and what does it look like?

“Don’t wear jewelry. Just seems unnecessary.â€

Do you have a special place where you keep your valuables?

“I jimmied the mirror out of my apartment’s bathroom. It’s not much space, but I can cram what I need to behind the drywall where nobody can find it.â€

What's your preferred means of local travel? How about long distance?

“Local travel boils down to the bus. As Quarrel, I can take the Montezooma to wherever I need to be, long or short distance. Generally, I try not to travel too far from South Freedom though, but sometimes that’s just how it’s got to be.â€

Miscellaneous

Have you ever made a will, or tried to make arrangements for your death? What provisions did you make?

“Not yet. I try not to think about that sort of stuff.â€

If your features were to be destroyed beyond recognition, is there any other way of identifying your body?

“I doubt it.â€

What would you like to be remembered for after your death?

“That one man made a stand on his own. That someone didn’t just sit around while the peste of crime ran rampant, and strove to do something about it. Despite all odds, I tried to do what I could for the greater good; and that’s all I’d ever ask anyone to remember me for.â€

Do you believe you pose a threat to the public? Why or why not?

“Ay Dios mio, of course not!â€

What do you perceive as your greatest strength?

“Adaptability. Being someone without powers, I have to make do with what I have. Sometimes that means being underhanded a bit, surprising people; using ambush or scare tactics; Whatever it takes to get the job done outside of lethal force.â€

What do you perceive as your greatest weakness?

“My lack of powers. While some heroes are super-strong, fast, or tough, I’m just an average man. I can’t really compete with their caliber of foes, but when you get saddled with the superhero thing, sometimes things happen. I try to pick my battles, but when push comes to shove, I still have a job to do. I wanted to live this kind of life, so it’s my responsibility to see it through to the end, even if the odds aren’t looking very promising.â€

As a player, if you could, what advice would you give your character? Speak as if he/she were sitting right here in front of you. Use proper tone so they might heed your advice...

Get out more. You’re a work-a-holic, Enzo. Make some friends without the mask. Get a girlfriend. Maybe just take a Saturday off once a month for some ‘Me Time’ or to just sleep in late. You’ve been wrapped up in this lifestyle for half a decade; one day won’t end the world (hopefully). You’re just a normal person, and you still have needs to fulfill. Crime doesn’t sleep, but that also means it isn’t far from home; it won’t disappear overnight if you stay in to watch a movie. In short, relax. At least just a little bit every once in a while!

The Interview (aka 20 Questions)

1. Where is your hero from?[

"I was born in Mesa, Arizona at the Banner Heart Hospital under my birth name, Enzo Amancio Flores."

2. How would your hero physically describe him/herself? Is this different from how others would?

"In pretty good shape, I think. I hit the gym pretty regularly, and do a lot of cardio and gymnastics even when I can't. Makes it easier to bounce around criminals and avoid gunfire."

3. Does your hero have distinguishing speech characteristics or recurring mannerisms?

"I usually speak in straight English, but every now and then a little espanol slips out."

4. What is your hero's motivation?

"To be honest, when I first started out as Quarrel, it was just for petty revenge. It took The Underdogs to show me that I could do more than just pick off gangbangers out of anger about what happened to my mom. Now? Now I do what I can, because sometimes the world just needs someone watching over them."

5. What are your hero's greatest strengths and weaknesses?

"Adaptability's probably my best asset, cabron. Lacking powers that other heroes have, I need to be able to adapt to the changing scenarios quick instead of relying on a single trick. Makes me flexible. The lack of powers, though, is more than a bit hard. Imagine dealing with someone who's super-strong, or tough or something, and you? You're just normal; weak and frail by comparison."

6. What does your hero love? What does your hero hate?

"Libertad. Freedom isn't something we should take for granted, but it can be a double-edged sword. I have some minor dislike of all the red-tape associated with law enforcement, but I don't hate it, exactly. Sometimes it's just too slow, too formal; something unnecessary when action needs to be taken."

7. How would you describe your character's mental and emotional state?

"Uh... sane? Not really sure what to say to that, amigo."

8. What does your hero fear the most?

"My loved ones being victimized again. I just... ay Dios mio, I don't know what I'd do if something like that ever happened."

9. What is your character's greatest ambition?

"Hrm. Not something I've given a lot of thought. I'd like to get into the Liberty League, but that seems far off right now. I'd settle for just being remembered for contributing something to Freedom City."

10. How does your hero feel about the state of the world and his/her place in it?

"Things have definitely been better. It's like every year, more heroes - and villains - crop up. It's a never-ending struggle to keep order, and crime seems to become more and more rampant in some areas. It's us against them, and I know where I stand."

11. Does your hero have any prejudices? How does he/she get along with others?

"Yeah. I can't stand gangbangers. You know, mobsters. Syndicates. Whatever. They're like predators, targeting weak people for their own selfish gain."

12. Where do your heroes loyalties lie? In what order?

"First and foremost, doing what's right. Then it's mi familia, mi amigos, and myself. Then everyone else. Last is the law."

13. Does your hero have a lover or partner? How do they feel about the hero now?

"Formerly on both. Had some girlfriends back in high school, and for a while, Handiwork was my teammate after The Underdogs broke up. While I can't speak about the girls, Handiwork and I still write now and then, so we're still mejor amigos."

14. Does your hero have a family? What is the relationship there like?

"Mi familia is still around, and we're just as close as we were before I left home. My father, Alberto, works in construction. My mom, Monica, was crippled by a gang-related drive-by shooting, and just resumed her career as a substitute teacher. My older sister, Rebecca, is on her way to a Master's Degree in Business at Rio Salado College in Mesa."

15. How would the people closest to your hero describe him or her?

"I hope well. I mean, I'd give someone the shirt off my back if they needed it!"

16. Is your hero a role model?

"I try to be, amigo. I try to be."

17. How spiritual is your hero? Does your hero follow a relgious tradition?

"My father made sure we were raised Catholic, so I was baptized early. I believe in God, but I don't get all preachy about it. After all, that's one of the things people need to find out for themselves."

18. Is your hero part of a team, or would he/she like to be? Why?

"Formerly, and definitely need to get back on one now that I'm here in Freedom City. Now that The Underdogs have broken up and I've moved on, I've been flying solo as Quarrel, but here? Here things are different; it's not like Mesa, where it was mostly just mooks with guns and drugs running around. There are real super-threats on the streets down there, and there's a lot more of them. A little help wouldn't hurt, if you catch my drift."

19. How does your hero feel about the place of metahumans and aliens on Earth?

"Superheroes have been around since before I was born. Between invasions from other dimensions, aliens crashing to Earth, and all the kids with superpowers running around, that's just how the world is."

20. If you could give one piece of advice to your hero, what would it be?

Get out more. You’re a work-a-holic, Enzo. Make some friends without the mask. Get a girlfriend. Maybe just take a Saturday off once a month for some ‘Me Time’ or to just sleep in late.
