The punch connected soundly, and the blur that was Velocity swept past. Denton crumbled to the ground like a puppet with it's strings cut without the support of his captor, but at least he was mostly out of danger now.

The last man was knocked sprawling by the ultrafast blow, skidding head over heels out into the street before tumbling a couple more feet into a ditch. At least he wouldn't be lonely. There was plenty of scum in there with him.

Denton lay on the ground nearby, unmoving. But from Velocity's distance to him, she couldn't tell if he was hurt.

Denton seemed to be breathing normally, and other than a bruise on the back of his head, nothing else popped out at Velocity as life threatening. Even his heart rate was normal. Well, perhaps a little bit below normal, but that was just because he was unconscious.

As Velocity checked her schoolmate over, she noticed that one of the men, the leader, had fled when she wasn't looking. The other one in the ditch was still there, and she assumed the one she pounded into the credenza remained upstairs.

Or maybe he was just very sure he'd escaped Velocity to begin with. Whatever the reason, she was able to shadow the man all the way into Southside.
