Once inside, Velocity found herself in the foyer of one of the bigger mansions of the area. Not as big as her parents, of course, but pretty impressive none the less. The floor was Arabescato Marble, the stone shot through with black veins of material. On the walls hung a few pieces of art she recognized from her father's law firm reception area; apparently they had the same decorator. A half-dozen other ostentatious touches actually rounded out the room so that no one object over shadowed another.

A fight had taken place here, that much was clear. The table used to hold keys or other things a person might need to take to work had been broken, and a couple bottles of wine had slid out of the steel wine storage rank near the corner of what appeared to lead into the kitchen, and one of the heads had broken off, spilling the red liquid all over the expensive Persian rug. The trail of destruction seemed to led further into the house, up the stairs.

A dual marble staircase led up to the second floor landing, both paths equidistant from the other. The sounds had grown dimmer now, but now Velocity could hear shouting, though she couldn't make out the exact words, muffed as they were through the floor. With a quick surge forwards and up the stairs, she came to a hallway.

A man in a very familiar black suit and sunglasses hung back out of a doorway, peering in carefully until Velocity made her entrance. His eyes widened in shock and he tried to raise his weapon, something that looked like a pistol but was far too advanced to shot plain old bullets. Of course, due to her hyper-fast reaction speed, his draw looked like it was in pathetically slow motion.

Velocity was barely a blur to the man before her fist met with his face in a painful way - but only for a second. The his eyes rolled back in his head as he was slammed backward down the hallway, careening crazily of the floors in a macabre ragdoll fashion. He finally came to rest after his body used a credenza to cushion it's horizontal fall.

The noise of the man's pinball journey drew the attention of two further men inside the room he'd been guarding. Both had pistols in their hands, and the one standing over the cowering Denton hauled the boy to his feet, placing the gun to his head. "Do not attempt to stop us, Velocity," he warned in a deadly calm voice. "We are leaving this area with this boy. Any heroics on your part will result his death." Denton whimpered softly, but it seemed like he was partly out of it, similar to how Eric looked like shortly before his heart attack.

The other man aimed his gun at the speedster girl, but did not fire. He was waiting for approval of the hostage taker, apparently.

Velocity stopped as one of the other men aimed his pistol at Denton. She was not so worried about herself, but more about the weakened boy.

Scowling slightly, she shouted at the two. “If I were you, I would just worry about getting yourselves out of this. You pals that went after the other boys are already in the hands of the police. They’ll track you down, wherever you go, and then you’ll be sorry. Take off now, without Denton, and you might just get away.â€Â

The first man grinned, seemingly amused by what Velocity had just said. "You hear that? They'll get us wherever we go. Even-"

"Silence," the hostage taker said. His voice, while it hadn't changed in volume, conveyed an incredible amount of malice nonetheless. He was clearly in charge, and now that Velocity looked closer, he was different than his companions - bigger somehow. There was something around him, similar to a heat haze, but more distinct. Once he started moving, however, the effect disappeared.

He started towards the door, keeping Denton in front of him, gun pressed firmly to the boy's temple. "You will vacate the doorway now." His eyes flicked to the remaining "MiB". "You. Start the van."

The man hastened to comply, starting forward with his gun fixed on the high school superheroine.

The marble did it's work as intended. A hissing pop sounded the death knell for the front left tire of the van. Now the men had no way to escape that Velocity knew.

The two shuffled outside a few moments later, the boss still holding a gun to Denton's head. The high school student seemed unresponsive and had to be held up by his captor. Once they saw what Velocity had done, the unencumbered man yelled, "You *&^%$!" and fired at her, missing handly.

"You idiot!" the other man said, and finally shifted his gun away from Denton's temple to point it at Velocity. If she wanted to get the gun away from him, it was now or never.
