Sammy Cosentino got off of the Greyhound bus and took a moment to look at his new home, Freedom City. He didn't like having to take the bus halfway across the country, but he wasn't doing very well financially. He had read a lot about the great city and knew that if was going to turn his luck around, this was the city to do it.

Sammy dipped his hands in his pockets to remove only a few dollars. The first thing he needed was money. And the best way of doing that was to try his luck at the casinos. Once he had a few dollars in his pocket, he could start looking for work.

Having decided to try his luck at the Atlantis casino, Sammy decides to paly Craps. It isn't long before he's won a large amount of money and begins drawing attention from the various people in the casino. Sammy is able to win $30 thousand by betting on Aces.

The impressive win draws the attention of Dorian Magnus, founder of Vulcan Technologies. Dorian invites Sammy to a drink and they begin to speak. The conversation ends with Sammy leaving with his money but not before the strangest events occur.

The casino, not liking losing so much money to a single person, sent their guards to teach Sammy a lesson. Sammy saw them coming and using his own ability to effect the laws of probability, caused the men to suffer from highly unlikely accidents.

Once outside, Sammy is approached by a man claiming to work for Dorian Magnus and is given a card with a number on it. Sammy promises to call the number after finding a place to stay.

It isn't long before Sammy comes across The Paltinum Palace. He quickly procures a room on the tenth room and introduces himself to his neighbors.

Jobs

The first job in Freedom City called for The Ghost to procure a small box with runes written all over it. Entry was surprisingly easy, but that was just the beginning of the job.

The second job in Freedom City was one that the Ghost had decided to perform with the help of some villains he met at the Arena, an old oil rig where villains can socialize.

February - April 2008

The Ghost headed to the place called the Arena after learning that it was the place for people of his livelyhood to meet others. An invitation was given to him earlier that week that called for him to meet a number of people at the Arena.

Once there, Ghost met Collateral, Dryad, Red Queen, and Imposter. All of them had been given the same invitation which seemed very unlikely to Ghost. However, like most things in his life, Ghost believed in trusting in Lady Fortune. A few days ago, he saw on television of the new display that would arrive at the field museum. The Aurora Diamond Collection was coming to Freedom City. With the help of the four others, Ghost thought that this was just what he needed to get the job done.

Ghost explained to the others about the job and they agreed to help each other out if caught in the future. All gains would be split equally between those that participated in the job.

Unfortunately, during the job, Red Queen decided to leave and the others simply didn't have much interest in continuing the job which left Ghost to complete it. He reached the dispaly of the diamonds but found that they were also protected by some kind of force field. Not having the proper tools to disable the eletronic device, Ghost turned his powers unto it. By exerting himself, Ghost manages to nullify the field and take the diamonds. Combat outside between his companions and supers that came to investigate, allowed Ghost to leave the building.

May 2008

Sammy gets word that there's a new player in Boardwalk. Not liking having competition in his part of the city, Sammy takes time to enter the Golden Calf, the one casino he dislikes most.

The meeting turns out to be with Chill and Whisper who decide to rob the Golden Calf. Sammy gets excited to bring the guady casino down a peg and the group quickly makes plans to hit the Casino. With a little luck, things should work out smoothly.

JUNE 2008

The Ghost decides to take in a play in the theater section of Freedom city. A night of culture was way over due for the busy man. Even as he enjoyed the show, Sammy wondered if his talents needed a little refresher. (The events of this thread happen between his first and second jobs.)

Ghost having completed his second job by stealing the Aurora Diamond collection, decides that it was high time to improve his working skills. After consulting with Lenny, Ghost heads back to the Arena and there is greeted once more by Legend. Legend leads him to a different section of the oil rig and says he can use the area to train.

Journal entry 1

So it's been a while since I came to Freedom City and thought it would be a good idea to start a journal. It seems that the city is full of characters on both side of the law. So far, I've been fortunate enough not to run into any of the do gooders running about in tights. If I ever run afoul of one, I have no idea of what would happen. I'd most likely get my butt handed to me so it's best to avoid the situation as long as possible.

I found a place called the Arena where people such as myself can enjoy a cool drink without worrying about the lae crashing in on the festivities. I like it. I meet a few interesting people there and together we decided to hit the Aurora Diamond collection that came to the city. Things looked fairly bright about the job. I even got a chance to visit another fella's base; a real high class place with heavy security all around. Too bad most of the security was using cameras and such. If I wanted to, I could have walked into that place so easy and caused a lot of trouble. Good thing that he was on my side. Unfortunately, I suspect he'll fix that little problem in his security.

After a number of "jobs" done within the city of Freedom, Sammy realizes that his skills were sorely lacking. Determined to do something about the situation, Sammy searched out Lenny.

Lenny informed him that at the Arena there was the chance ot improve his skills. taking the man at his word, Sammy travelled back to the derilict oil rig where the mysterious Legend met him. Legend lead him to another section of the rig where various doors held rooms to fine tune a person's skills in a more private manner than the very public fighting arena where most of the villians showed off their abilities.

Sammy went through a number of trials that stretched his abilities to their fullest. Each task he had to perform was different and worked on a different skill. Though he was unable to defeat all of the tasks, Sammy did improve greatly. Armed with his new mastery of his abilities, Sammy headed back to town to see about the job that Capricia Chili had set up.

While out in Midtown, enjoying the art galleries, Sammy comes across a new super in the area, Contour. The super seesm strange to Sammy as he comes wishing ot talk to people but refrains from pointing out which side of the law he's on. Considering he hadn'T attacked anyone and paid for Sammy to reenter the gallery, Contour must be on the 'hero' side of the law.

While the two talked, Sammy spotted a very nice painting that he was interested in. It was on loan to the gallery and Sammy knew that later that week he would be back to make a go of it.

Journal entry 2

Man! I have got to stop trying to work with people! I knew trying to knock off the Golden Calf was bad luck! All that guady gold and horrible artwork everywhere just does not work for me! First, that Whisper chick decided to split on us midway through the job.

Do I attract unprofessionals? Do any of them understand about having pride in their work? Or is everyone in this town so full of themselves that they have no pride in their craftmanship?

Most of the villains I've run into so far have been very powerful and flashy. That demon guy for one was mostly show as they dropped him fairly quick. If I would have watched out for myself, I could have escaped. But no....I had to show some loyalty to the group and the plan. Cost me a beating that I'm not going to forget anytime soon.

I need to change my ways here in Freedom. Its everyman man for himself out here. If you're not watching for Number one, you're picking out daisies! Next time, I run when things turn south!

Sometimes, work just seems to find me.

I got home and there was a message on my machine, the one I set up for work. Some guy wanted me to meet him on the strip. I can tell you I wasn'T very happy with the call but it did seem interesting. I needed something to change my luck and a normal job sure would help hit the spot.

So I head out and watch the meeting place just to make sure the guy isn't pulling my chain. After a short time, I approached the contact only to see some kid with red glasses. He tells me to follow him into the alley and there I meet another guy wearing red rimed glasses. This one is at least a man and not some kid so thigns seem a little more on the up and up. That's when he popped up.

Maximus Grey. Just thinking about the guy's name sends chills down my spine. I've worked for some hard people before but this guy just oozed trouble. It took all my cool not to bolt when he stepped out of the shadows. I mean, what's a guy to do? If I had run, I wouldn't be able to get any more jobs in this town again.

So I decide to play it cool and at least listen to what he's got to say. The man had a bunch more of those glasses wearing lackeys with him. It must be his symbol or something. I'm going to have to make sure to keep my eyes out for that. Wouldn't want one of them reporting on me to the big guy.

Turns out all he wants me to do is to break into the Albright Insitute and copy some files on a computer. Fairly simple but then he explains the place is protected by a Super. Actually the guy I got to rip off is a Super. That's something I really don't like to mess with. There's just so many of them in this town that business has become....difficult.

Anyway, my computer skills aren't the best in the world. Didn'T think I needed those when I went to the Arena for that fresh up course. I doubt that I can get that kind of training there even if I wanted to. I'm not sure what I think of that Legend fella, but the less I head over there to work on my skills the better I guess. If push comes to shove, it should do but better not to have all my eggs in one basket.

I think I'll head over to HIT and enroll in some computer classes. They have some of the newer computers and software there. It should give me the time I need to sharpen my skills and if there isn't, well, buying a software package that will do the job is always an option. Maybe Legend could introduce me to someone willing to do the job.

What the hell is this city coming to? There I was, heading back to teh gallery to pick up that picture I saw earlier and some crazed maniac with guns tries to take my head off! Unlike the normal heroes that run around the city, this one was out for blood! The guy had me cornered until I made it down into the sewers.

Normally, I try not to head down there as they are just filthy and I do have a reputation to uphold. I mean, how would it sound if the Ghost had to use the sewers to get away? They'd think I'm some common crook, which of course, I'm not. Besides, it stinks down there!

Anyway, I thought I had given him the slip, buying myself some time to regain a mesaure of a plan, when I heard him come down after me. I started moving out and just when I got a far enough that I felt I was in the clear, some wanna-be hero appeared out of thin air. Thought the hero was a guy until she started talking. And talking she did. Accusing me of some wrong doing when I was being chased and bleeding at the time!

Why do the heroes of this town think they are so much better than other people here? As if their powers just give them the right to dictate rules to people. Did she bother to even find out why I was being chased? No, of course not. She decided to simply tell the guy when he came into view, not to use lethal force when chasing me! Can you believe the nerve of that woman?

Of course, that vigilante that was following me didn't like being told what to do either, so he took a few shots at her. I thought that it would be best for the two of them to duke it out instead of worrying about me, so I decide to help her out when he got a lucky shot on her.

Seems the plan worked as she kept after him giving me the chance to escape. It took me ten showers to get the smell of those sewers off of me. Next time I see that girl again, though, I'm going to dictate my own rules!

Man, that was one break I needed! With all those computer classes and the homework they hand out, I thought I would never get out of there. Still, I've got the final project to turn in before I can start getting back to work. That Grey fella, has got to be wondering what's taking so long to get the information he wanted. Hey, I asked if there was a time limit on the subject. Shouldn't be that much longer before I can contact him again.

I really don't want to, but he's the type of person you just don't say no to. Man, he makes my skin crawl.

Remind me never to tell the gang down at the Arena that I'm celebrating anything! Those guys make sure you drink like there was not tomorrow. I thought everything was cool at first. Head down to the Arena for a few celebatory drinks not only for surviving that horrible job at the Golden calf but also to celebrate my birthday.

No, not my actual birthday. The day I got my powers as at The Ghost. It was six years ago when I stole that amulet and then got the powers that made my life so much better.

So there I was minding my own business drinking away when I mention to the bartender that it was my birthday. That was just the words that sealed my doom. Seconds later, he had announced to all present that it was my birthday and the next thing I knew, the lowest in teh joint to the high and power were buying be round after round of drinks. I couldn'T turn any of them down either. How would that look if I turned down a drink from those heavy hitters. I mean, half the folk there could have bent me in two! And that without breaking a sweat! I may be lucky, but not even I am willing to put my luck up against the likes of Argo or Mastermind.

To make matters worse, Legend decided to come out and congratulate me as well. Now that wasn't something I was expecting. He's kept such a low profile on that derilict that I wonder if he even is running the place. He did have a slight twinkle in his eyes when said that toast though, as if he knew something big was going to happen in my life.

Must have been the booze. Anyway, I've decided to take that silly box to Lenny to get some answers. it's been so long since I stole it and I'm about at a point where something needs to be done with it. Maybe Lenny can shed some light on it. If he doesn't know what it is, he can at least send me in the right direction. Perhaps even find a buyer for it. That would be the best course of action. Get paid for it.

Link to comment

Darn. Lenny couldn't help me out. At least directly. He said give him a few days to see if he could point me to someone that might have a clue about what the box. I hope whomever he finds also has the money to buy it off of me. I really don'T want to lug this thing around with me all over town.

Actually, that reminds me. Lately, I've been having nightmares. Well, I can't really call them nightmares as I don't seem to be in them. It's as if I'm someone else and I keep moving around the city. It's hard to expalin but I think I'm out there destroying every machine I can get my hands on. Does that make sense? I have nothing against machines. Heck, they can't detect me which in my line of profession is a very good thing!

For some reason though, it felt good.

Maybe this town is getting to me.....

Link to comment

The dreams....they're getting worse. I feel myself getting lost. The hunger that drives me has become my only reason to live in the dream. I ignore everything else; money, jewlery, and the few precious art pieces that I pass by.

Soemthing is definately wrong. But who do I talk to about the dreams? I can barely believe them so why should anyone else? Besides, it wouldn't look good if word got out that The Ghost was off his rocker. I wouldn'T get anymore jobs and that I just can't let happen.

For now, I'll ignore the dreams. They aren't hurting me and I don't feel threaten by them. I feel I'm losing myself in them, but not in a bad way. It was almost like something was trying ot contact me.

I'll see Lenny later today so hopefully he's got some good news for me. I sure can use it!

Link to comment

Who is this guy? Byron? Where did Lenny get this guy's name from?

I've spent a few hours hitting the street looking for information on the guy which just doesn't seem to be out there! I've talked to low lifes, pimps, drug addicts and even gang members. No one and I mean no one has ever heard of Byron.

Hey, I trust Lenny wouldn'T send me out on a wild goose chase, but I hate walking into a situation without knowing what I'm getting into anymore. That last meeting with Maximus Grey must ahve really gotten to me if I'm out here looking for info on this byron guy. Lenny wouldn't set me up so there must be a reason for me not being able to find anything on this guy.

Could he be pulling Lenny's leg? Hey, Lenny's just some average Joe that knows a lot of people. Maybe a new super is out here trying to use Lenny to lure people like me to them! I'll have to watch my step when I deliver the envelope. I don't trust it to be a simple job.

Link to comment

At last I'm free!

I finished the computer course and can now contact Grey about his little project. It shouldn'T be too difficult to get in and take a look around at that computer system. From the sound of things, it should be well guarded with electronic devices which means little to me. I'll have to watch out how the place is protected against. I can take a look at the place when I go out to deliver that envelope for Byron.

I'll be glad to get rid of that box, though. It will hopefully let me sleep at night.

Introduction

Give a two or three word description of yourself. (Describe your character's concept.)

I'm the best Breaking and Entering guy you'll find.

Do you have any nicknames, street names, titles, or nom de plume? On the street, I'm known as The Ghost. It's my working name.

What is your full birth name? Sammy Cosentino

Where do you live? The Paltinum Palace in the Boardwalk of the Southside of Freedom

Why do you live there? It's near the casinos where I like to spend my free time. Also, a good place to make contacts with the mob for jobs.

What do you perceive as your greatest strength? Why that would be the fact that Lady Fortune watches over me. Luck just seems to follow me around.

What do you perceive as your greatest weakness? That would have to be money of course. Pay me enough and I'll do almost anything.

Physical Traits

How old are you? (Chronological age as well as age category.) 26 years old.

What is your sex? Male

What is your race? American Italian

How tall are you? 5'10"

How much do you weigh? 175lbs

What is your general body type, frame, bone structure, and poise? Slightly stocky for my height and profession. I tend to carry myself with a sense of unconcern for the situations about me. Got to keep my cool in all situations.

What is your skin colour? A slightly dark cream color.

What is your hair colour? Black

What is your hair style? Cut short, crewcut style

Do you have any facial hair? Nope.

What is your eye colour? Brown

How attractive are you? Average. It doesn't pay to stand out in my line of work.

What is your most distinguishing feature? Like I said, doesn't pay to stand out.

Do you have any scars, tattoos, or birthmarks? Nope

What is your handedness (left/right/ambidextrous)? Right handed

Do you resemble some currently known person? Nope

What kind of clothing do you wear? Usualy black jeans and dark T-shirts.

Do you wear makeup? Naw, I don't need stuff like that.

What sort of vocal tone do you have? A normal one that doesn't draw much attention.

History

Where is your homeland? America

Are you aware of its history? Yes

Are you patriotic or a social outcast? Neither. The country hasn't done anything for me why should I.

What are your opinion of home? Best place to live

Where is your home town? Chicago

Are your real reasons for becoming an adventurer different from what you tell others? Nope

How far would you go to keep such secrets from being revealed? What would you do if the truth became known? I have no problems telling people I do things for money. I like to be up front like that.

What do you fear would occur if the truth became known? Ain't hiding it so it doesn't matter.

Do you have any particularly high or low ability scores? Like I said, I'm the best at what I do. I've put time into honing my B&E skills.

How have these scores affected your life so far? They've given me a lot of money to work with.

What about your race, growing up were you in the majority or a minority? Majority

Did this impact your outlook in any way? Nope

How do you feel about other races? People are all targets. I don't care what color you may be, money is all the same.

Were there any traumatic experiences in your early years (death of a family member, abandonment, orphaned at an early age)? Well, I was orphaned at an early age. Bounced from foster home to foster home

Briefly describe a defining moment in your childhood and how it influenced your life. I was ten and was in the fifth or sixth foster home. The guardians wouldn't buy me or the three other foster kids they were watching any candy when we went shopping. One day, I decided to pick up a candy bar and placed it in my pocket. Walked out thinking I would get caught and sent to a differnet foster home, but got away without a problem. That was the best candy bar I had ever had. It made me feel strong and in control, something I never really felt until that moment. It's what got me started, I guess.

What stupid things did you do when you were younger? Well I tried to steal my teacher's car when I was fifteen. That didn't go very well. They caught me when I was still trying to hot wire the damn thing. That's when I learned to make sure no one was watching when I worked.

Which toys from your childhood have you kept? Nothing. Never really had a place to keep anything to begin with.

Why? What do they mean to you? If you didn't keep any, why not? What did you do to them all? As I moved to home to home, I was never able to keep anything for long.

Do you have any deep, dark secrets in the past that may come back to haunt you? Not really.

Are you who you claim to be? Yes

Do you have any sort of criminal record? Yes, and it is a nice one.

How do you view the heroes/legends of your country? Man were they stupid. Doing all that work for no pay!

Family

Who were your parents? Unknown

Were you raised by them? If not, then why didn't they and who did raise you? No. I was orphaned.

What was their standing in the community? Have no ideas and don't care. They dumped me, I dump them.

Did your family stay in one area or move around a lot? I did all the moving about.

How did you get along with their parents? The foster parents were all bores and too controlling.

How would your parents describe you? Answer this in the voice of your mother, then in your father's. "Sammy, is a rascal if I ever saw one. Always taking toys and candy from the other children, but never getting into many fights. He just seemed very lucky like that I guess." "That boy would have been the death of me. If I caught him taking money from my wallet I would have tore his flesh from his bottom. Somehow, he always managed to avoid getting caught. That's one lucky son of a ---."

Do you have any siblings? If so how many and what were their names? How did you get along with each of your siblings? Unknown. Plenty of foster brothers and sisters but never got close to any.

What was your birth position in the family? Again, unknown. I would guess junk as they left me.

List all current knowledge of family locations, spouses, children, birth dates, schooling, and any important incidents that only you and they might remember. I have no idea who my parents are and I cut all ties with the foster families of my youth.

Do you stay in touch with them or have you become estranged? Never bothered to look for them.

Do you love or hate one member of the family in particular? No feelings for them in anyway.

Is any member of the family special to you in any way (perhaps, as a confidant, mentor, or arch-rival)? Nope.

Are there any black (or white) sheep in the family (including you)? Got to be me as I got left behind.

If so, who are they and how did they "gain" the position? I was orphaned.

Do you have a notorious or celebrated ancestor? If I even knew who my family was, I might have a clue. As it is, I don't.

If so, what did this person do to become famous or infamous? Again, no idea.

Do you try to live up to the reputation of your ancestor, try to live it down, or ignore it? Don't know who they could be so no worries about living in someone else's shadow.

Do you ever want to have a family of your own someday? A family? Are you crazy? Have some kid hanging around my neck slowing me down. Or worst yet a money hungry woman digging into my pockets. No thanks.

Would anything change your mind on this issue and if so, what? If I found a woman who shared the same goals and desires as myslef, I would consider getting hitched.

What type of person would be your ideal mate? Someone as good as myself at breaking and entering.

Relationships

Do you have any close friends? If so, who and what are they like? Only friend in Freedom is Lenny. He's the guy that gets me a few jobs around town.

What is the history of their relationship(s) with you? Lenny passes on information I might find interesting as well as helping me get the right tools for the job.

Do you currently have a best friend whom you would protect with your reputation or your life? Nope.

If so, who are they and what caused you to feel so close to them? What would have to happen for you to end this relationship? N/A

Do you have any bitter enemies? Not that I know of, though there are a few casino owners that might not want me around.

If so, who are they, what are they like, and what is the history of their feud with you? They just don't like me winning at their rigged tables.

Have you defeated them before? Every time I sit to play!

How might these enemies seek to discomfit you in the future? They try to ban me from the clubs, and for the most part, I keep my distance, but then again, they know they can't stop me.

Which person(s) or group(s) are you most loyal to? I'm loyal to myself first and foremost. If I decide to work with someone, they have my support as long as they do right by me.

Who is your most trusted ally? Haven't managed to find one yet here in Freedom.

Who do you trust, in general? Teammates. If you can't trust them, then the job ain't getting done.

Who do you despise and why? I'm getting tired of all the wannabe heroes in this town. Always trying to mess up a guy's payday.

Name seven things you hate in others. Stupidity, rashness, cruelty, showboating, rigid control, altruism, and selfishness.

Is your image consistent? I would hope so.

Do you deliberately present yourself differently in different situations, and how? Of course. Any way to keep my butt alive.

What would you die for? Nothing. I haven't found anything worth more than my life.

What is the worst thing someone has done to you? Let me to be raised by strangers.

What is your general reaction to an attractive member of the opposite sex who lets you know they are available? That depends on y present situation. IfI'm on a job, they can take a hike. If I'm between work, then I'll hit it.

How do you get along with others of the same adventuring class? Don't mess up my jobs, and I won't mess up yours.

Have you lost any loves? Nope. Only love I have is money.

How did you handle the situation (short & long term)? I go out and steal some more!

Who would miss you should you go missing? Well, I guess Lenny would. Who else would he get to do the jobs that come his way?

How close are you to your adventuring companions? I'll share a drink or two, but that's aobut it. People like me don't like having a fan club around.

What are your short term goals (what would you like to be doing within a year)? I would like to have enough money to not have to work for a year.

What are your long term goals (what would you like to be doing twenty years from now)? I'd liek to be raising a faimly I guess.

Do you belong to a dominant church, or an independent church, cult, or sect (and is the group accepted, frowned upon, or considered heretics)? Nope.

Will you kill? ... That's a hard one to answer. I try not to but I guess, if it was me or them, they can kiss this life goodbye.

When did you decide (or learn) that you would? I guess I've got Lady Fortune to thank that I haven't had to yet.

When do you consider it okay to kill (under what circumstances)? Again, if its my life or theirs.

When do you consider it wrong to kill (under what circumstances)? When it isn't my life or theirs.

What would you do if someone else attempted to (or successfully did) kill under your "wrong" circumstances, what would be your reaction? Not my life. As long as it doesn'T stick to me, I could care less.

What if it were your enemy? See above.

What if it were your friend? See above.

What if the opponent were not in control of their own actions (under duress, charmed, dominated, possessed)? I'm no goody two shoes. It's their life.

What would you do if you were badly insulted publicly? Smile, walk away, and wait until the evening to teach them a lesson.

I've started watching the Albright Insititue. Looks like it shouldn't be too difficult to get in. It seems they are getting started to open their doors to new supers in an attempt to keep track of the influx of powered beings.

I'm not sure if that is going to be a good idea though. Having one central location set up where all kinds of information of a person might not be a very good idea. For that matter, what would they do about security. Just think of what kind of money I would make if I left a little backdoor into their software that would allow me to gain that information. Who would not pay for the information!

Naw, too much trouble. Besides, infromation is not my forte. Physical items is much better for me. Quick money is better than the chance of being caught in the act.

That was easier than I thought! Got in, took a test and then used that time to slip into the room and download the information. All I ahve to do is call Maximus' number and get the drive to him. Once that's done, I get paid!

Sammy twirled the small flashdrive in his fingers.

I wonder what he plans on using the information for? Not my problem I guess. As long as I get paid it doesn't bother me.

Sammy looked over at the strange box that had been on his mind for some time now.

Still no word from Lenny on Byron. I delievered the package and went to Lantern Hill but he wasn't there. I guess I'll keep heading out that way just to see if I can find anything new.
