Iced Tea In The Morning [IC]

Recommended Posts

While the lion once more gracefully evaded the icy attack, its friends were not so lucky. The Scarecrow nearly fell backwards, shards of ice and snow embedding themselves in its form of clay and straw. And the Tin Man? He was battered up, his axe splintered into shards, his torso cracked open and his head shattered to smithereens on the frozen ground it fell upon.

Not too fazed, once more the other two golems fell upon Lady Winter, the Lion darting out from underneath a feigned strike by the scarecrow, claw gouging into Lady Winter's torso.

Not even pausing to survey the smashed golem, Equinox turned and went to aid Lady Winter again. I hope she's OK... With a wave of her wand and a flick of her coat, she burst into white light and disappeared.

Reappearing in the frosted-out casion, Equinox surveyed the destruction. Ice and hail had frozen the whole building's interior, chunks of hail and ice littering the floor, along with the remains of the tin golem. She looked up, eyes blazing white. "Good work," she managed, feeling the fatigue of so much magical expenditure threaten to overwhelm her. Even through the blaxing white glow of her eyes and defensive spells, dark rings were forming under her eyes.

Just before Lady Winter could register the mere sight of Equinox, she cried out as the Lions claws tore at her stomach. She scowled as a massive Hammer made of ice started to form in her hands. <"You call that a murder attempt? I've had paper cuts worse than this!>" She shouted before bringing the hammer down on the lion. Its head was crushed as part of the floor caved in from the sudden attack. Her hand went over the latest wound, already feeling frost starting to form around the edges. "Better end zis quickly." She said, any attempt to keep her speech clear failing.

The Scarecrow looked on in horror as its comrade fell to the ground, smashed to smithereens. It immediately began screeching in a high pitched hiss, flailing and thrashing everywhere. It easily hit the weary Equinox, but she expended another valuable chunk of her energy, repelling the blow without even moving from where she stood. Enraged, the scarecrow once more turned and slammed a straw-and-clay fist into Lady Winter's face.

Equinox raised her wand and took aim at the flailing, panicking scarecrow. Staggering slightly, her aim visibly wavered as her head swum with exhaustion. She just wanted to lie down and sleep...

.. but no. "En-fuego!" she shouted, flicking her wand. Unfortunately, at the same time, her left knee buckled and sent her toppling, the fiery blast gouting into the wall and blasting a huge chunk through the ice and the masonry.

Lady Winter coughed as she lifted her hammer up. The fact the building was just hit with a huge torrent of fire just hit a wall and probably set the dilapidated building on fire. She was batter, beaten and bleeding. Her costume was torn up and would cost her quite a bit in tailoring to get it repaired (Somewhere in the back of her mind, she was starting to figure out why some heroines go for the skimpy look) But all in all, she was more angry by this point. <"Lets see how you like being scared."> She muttered through gritted her teeth, gripped her hammer tight and swung full force into the Scarecrow.

In a shriek, a smash and a shower of ceramics, the scarecrow shattered into shards and smashed into the floor. The straw that had been on it was hurled up into the air and rained down, showering both Equinox and Lady Winter with it, and freezing to the walls and ceilings in several places.

From the back room, there came the sound of a shocked gasp and the clatter of work boots trying to run on slick ice. Clearly, the artificer was trying to escape.

Lady Winter struggled to remain steady. Pain and blood loss were bound to do that to a person after all. The wounds were starting to seal away ever so slowly as the Blue Russian heaved her hammer back over her shoulder and tried to follow the panicked artificer. "We must hurry. Cannot allow him to escape." He grunted to equinox behind her as she tried to pursue him through the wreckage. She was lucky the place was covered in ice, not that many could run away from a angered russian so easily.

Equinox didn't even bother trying to pursue after Lady Winter and the artificer. She just held herself up against the wall and made her way outside, fingers shivering and sticking to the ice-coated walls. That was a poor idea, really... Finally managing to make it outside, she knelt on the ground with her wand in her hand, producing a small flame to warm herself from the bitter cold inside the wrecked casino. I hope Lady Winter's all right...

In fact, the little creepy man had not got far, skating and sliding on the ice, holding his arms in close and shivering from the cold. He kept looking back, terrified, trying to evade his superheroine pursuer. "Leave me alone!" he shrieked, now sounding less menacing and more childish. "Go away!"

Lady Winter roller her eyes as she pointed tot he artificer. Ice quickly cocooned around him, but left his head exposed. "You do not make monsters and expect to get away with it." she said coldly to him. She bent over and dug her fingers into the frozen binding and picking him up like he barely weighed anything. The Blue Russian then slowly made her trek out of the area, seeing her companion trying to warm up from the frozen wasteland she had created. "I apologize if it was too cold in there for you dear." The gash in her chest and abdomen already reduced to tender looking marks of flesh against her blue skin. "I am not familiar of the rules of dealing with magical criminals such as him. Do we take him to jail as normal?" She asked. Her inexperience starting to really show for the first time today.

She looked cold and miserable, skin pale and a little blue in places. Colour was slowly returning, but not especially rapidly. "D-dunno..." shivered Equinox, struggling to her feet. "I personally think he should be. I mean, he ran af-fter you destroyed his golems. That m-means h-he c-couldn't have much more magic. And he d-didn't teleport away, so probably c-can't."

She looked pensive. "Ph-phone the cops and get them to c-come t-take him in?" And bring blankets. And coffee.

Poor dear. I'm thankful I didn't accidentally reduce her home into a tundra before. "Very well. I'll see what the police say about this." Lady winter said with a sad smile as she put both their captive and her ice hammer onto the ground. By some stroke of luck, her phone had managed to survive the fight with both the golem and the twisted Wizard of Oz knock offs. A quick dial of 911, a few quick words spoken and soon the police were on their way (She mentioned bringing blankets as well) "They will be here soon."

The police soon arrived, handcuffing the little man as soon as he was freed from his frozen prison. He was taken and tried for vandalism and assault. And thus, the little artificer (revealed to be named James Jennings) was imprisoned for his crimes.

After being warmed up by coffee and blaknets, Equinox recovered with only a minor cold for a few days. Exchanging numbers with Lady Winter, the two superheroines promised to meet up again sometime, and to call if there was some emergency. Because it's good to have friends around as the colder months roll in...
