The first attack is vs. DC 10 in order to Aid Another.

Neither of them missed due to concealment, so the second attack gets the Aid Another bonus and hits.

That's high enough to notice that there are some sort of small cords (metal, or maybe energy) attaching the spear to his hands. He seems to be able to release one hand from the spear at any given time, so it's probably energy. It's likely that he wouldn't be able to be disarmed. That would make some sense if it's his only means of protecting himself from serious attacks.

OOC, the Device is a hard-to-lose one, so it can't be removed with a simple disarm. You notice this before your action, so you can choose another one in its place.
