Merry Christmas from the Freedom League!

On the first of December the invitations went out, some by mail, some delivered by hand, and some delivered though means not accessible to mere mortals. The Freedom League was holding its annual Holiday Party for costumed do-gooders, and the invitations were coveted by anyone wearing a cape. Civilians were not invited and neither was the press. This was a chance for the good guys to relax and let their hair down. Every news agency on the East Coast would camp outside the hall, trying to get access to the event, and it would be the talk of every tabloid, legitimate newspaper and magazine, and superhero blog on the planet. Everyone who is anyone would be there.

____________________

When the event finally rolled around, it did not disappoint. By 6:00 PM heroes from all over the world were starting to arrive. It looked like the turn-out would be good.

As the media gathered outside the entrances to Freedom Hall, hoping to get a glimpse of some of the heroes that might be arriving, a blur of yellow zipped past them, a wind kicking up behind it from the speed of its passage. Skidding to a halt at the entrance to the Hall, Velocity looked back at the cameras and reporters, giving a bright smile and a wave. In her other hand she held a red box of European chocolates. The press took the chance to take pictures and get her on camera, for it was not that often that they got a clear shot of the speedy teen.

After giving the a brief moment to take some pictures and get a her on film, Velocity closed the remaining distance to the entrance to the Hall in the blink of an eye, making her way through the doors that had opened for her, and coming to a halt just inside.

It began as a distant roar, as if the very clouds were grinding together like granite. The sound quickly got louder as the source came closer, the clouds now lighting up in succession. People began to look up into the sky, some pointed. Those who knew - who had been in his presence before - smiled broadly; the others looked on in anticipation. They didn't have to wait long.

The clouds parted and there was a great flash causing some to shield their eyes, but no discomfort. When the glare cleared, Captain Thunder, his costume blazing bright against the sky drifted downward. To everyone on the ground it seemed as if he was looking straight at them, smiling and giving them comfort. The media wasted no time in getting all they could of the Freedom League's leader. He touched down just outside the entrance - the security managing to keep the press and public back - and turned, sweeping his cape out of the way as he did so, "Merry Christmas to all, happy Hanukkah, enjoy Ramadan, happy Kwanzaa, good Gudjewg and merry Ta Chiu. Whatever you're celebrating, I want to wish you all a very happy holiday season..." He smiled one of those smiles, "...thank-you. Have a great night everybody!" And with that, he was gone, dissappearing into Freedom Hall.

Jack stood on a nearby building, debating with himself over which of a few extravagant ways to enter. Eventually he picked a relatively minimalist option. He slashed a hole in the space part of the space-time continuum, and walked through. He willed the portal closed, waved, and gave his best superhero smile. The crowd stopped chattering for a moment, a few clapped half-heartedly, and then the drone of lots of simultaneous voices resumed. Frowning slightly, he followed Mr. Lightning inside.

Lady Liberty was already inside. She arrived early to greet the guests as they arrived. Besides, she never was much of a press hound. She strode over to the heroic teen. "I'm glad you made it. Welcome. Make yourself at home."

“Thanks, wouldn’t miss it.†The teen speedster replied to Lady Liberty with a wide smile. “I brought some chocolates.†She then added, holding out the box she was carrying. “Would've brought some wine or champagne, but…well, underage and all that. And my parents were totally not buying that I needed it for a Christmas Party that adults would be at.â€Â

The young woman then turned as someone else made their way into Freedom Hall and saw it was Captain Thunder. Oh, wow! She thought to herself, but kept her outwardly casual and relaxed demeanor. “Hey Captain Thunder. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.â€Â

A black limousine with the Ares Macrotechnology logo on the side pulls up, and a figure in a sleek red-and-gold battlesuit styled after samurai armor steps out. It is Shinken, sword-wielding superhero CEO of the massive military contractor Ares. He waves to the cameras, makes a somewhat theatrical bow, then takes his helmet off, revealing a young Japanese man with an angular, almost gaunt- yet somewhat attractive- face. Flashing a smile at the cameras but refusing to answer any questions, he strides into Freedom Hall.

Raindance touched down just in front of the entrance, borne by a gentle flurry of snowflakes - a special effect for the crowd, really, a nod of the head towards the season. Plus, thought Raindance, you never know if there's any hot girls to impress...

He gave a shy smile to the throng of journalists and photographers as he walked in.

A ghostly figure floats up through the floor, then solidifies itself into Pseudo's familiar form. He stretches his shoulders back and glances around until he spots Captain Thunder. "Good evening, Ray. Are Nancy and Junior coming tonight as well?"

He gives him an impish grin. "I heard you on your way in. Would you like a few holidays from the Grue Unity, so you can throw them in as well? Granted, most of them translate to something like 'all hail the Meta-Mind', but it's as close the Unity ever got to celebration. Or maybe the Lor Republic... now they know how to party."
