Characters Name: Aurajixen

Alternate Identity: Duskstalker

Height: 6ft 8in

Weight: 298lbs

Hair: None

Eyes: Molten bronze colored cat eyes

Description: Aurajixen in his human form is a tall man in his mid-20s with a bronze tan with no facial or head hair wearing a white shirt with grey sleeves and dark blue jeans don't seem to fit the right way around his legs. In his natural dragon form he is smaller than what most people would think a dragon would be his body is covered in bronze scales, horns extend from his temple backwards ending six inches behind his head which he will sometimes use to scratch an itch on his back (particularly between his wings). His wings fully extended are five feet in length, and when folded form a cloak-like shape that lies along both sides of his spine. He wears specially modified flash goggles and a undercover shirt with two slits in the back to allow his wings to move freely, the pants his human form wore now look right on him. The flames his powers create are a dark brass color which produce no smoke but feel slightly hotter than a normal flame. When he uses his magic he uses his native tongue to invoke them, for example bluthelitpro for lightning bolt or ixencayosin for his blade of flame.

History: For generations his family had lived on the islands around the city of Freeport acting as the guardians of the ships that made port there by warning them of approaching storms and following them until they could barely see land. His grandfather, Rygathatob, was one of the more adventurous ones who would sometimes follow the ships further out to sea until they could no longer see their island home and turn back home. It was on one of these days that he and a group of friends followed a small ship out beyond the horizon and began their journey back.

When they reached where their island home was supposed to be they instead found a vast coast, after a few hours of frantic searching the ocean for any sign of their homeland the group decided to settle where they were and form a new community and maybe some day their descendants would find a way back to their island home was forever lost to them and those who came after them.

In 1900 Aurajixen's father, Rachixen and his family moved to Freedom and soon settled in the southern area of Southside. Rachixen found work as a dockworker in Riverside loading and unloading cargo from the ships that docked there. When the family saw Centurion's life pod entering the atmosphere in 1918 they saw it as an omen that soon the world would have great change thrust upon it. The appearance of Centurion and shortly after many other heroes in 1938 heralded the beginning of the Age of the Superman.

In 1950 Aurajixen came into the world and as he grew his father told him stories of their homeland and the heroes of the past from there and their new homeland, these stories made the young Auraj want to become a hero just like them and have stories told of his exploits. The disbanding of the Liberty League confused and upset the young dragon who asked his father why they had to disband but his father could not explain it in terms the five year old's brain could understand, which sent the young boy's mood into a slump until the invasion of Hades' army of the dead and the formation of the Freedom League. These events rekindled the boy's desire to become a superhero and protect people from those wishing to hurt them.

Aurajixen's plans to be a superhero and someday join the Freedom League were put on hold first by the League being disbanded and then by Mayor Moore outlawing vigilantism in 1984 with the Moore Act. Instead of being a superhero he decided to become an author and write books based loosely on the stories told to him by his father when he was young. The Terminus Invasion was a dark time in his life as it was for many Freedonians as his heroes sacrificed themselves to protect those they held dear to them. With the revocation of the Moore Act by the mayor Aurajixen began his career as the hero Duskstalker. Up to the present day he has only gone after small time criminals and small groups of the Brotherhood if he stumbles upon them committing a crime while out on his nightly patrol.

Personality & Motivation: He is a quiet, cheerful person in both forms and when not out patrolling is either at home reading a book or writing a novel. Aurajixen has a strong dislike for those who try to deprive people of that which they'd worked hard for and will step in and attempt to dissuade the person threatening the victim and help the victim.

Powers & Tactics: Duskstalker's scales allow him ignore small arms fire, due to the bullets either flattening on them or deflecting off to the sides. When he encounters a crime in progress, he will swoop down on the criminals and try to get them to stop by breathing fire in front of them, if this stops them he swoops in from behind them with his body surrounded in flame, uses his magic to conceal himself and daze them and then tries to knock them unconscious or delay them until the police show up.

Complications:

Secret Identity – Aurajixen tries to keep his two identities separate due to many people's prejudice about dragons being evil malevolent beasts with little intelligence, if it were ever found out that he was a dragon he fears that many beings with superpowers would try to destroy him for the "evil" creature they would perceive him to be.

I've put the last point into Charisma. What do you mean by odd numbers? Doesn't the Additional Limbs power act like Improved Grapple which doesn't give you a bonus on grapple checks, it just allows you to grapple one-handed?

Link to comment

If you apply all of your Additional Limbs to a grapple attempt(rather than using the benefits of Improved Grapple to leave someof them free), you gain a +1 grapple bonus per rank in Additional Limbs.

As for odd numbers I mean the 13s, 15 and 17. Nothing wong with them, just wondered why you chose such.

That's shockingly skinny for a man of six foot eight. Or he might just have a very light density. Does he have hollow bones to make him fly better, then?

Aurajixen's plans to be a superhero and someday join the Freedom League were put on hold first by the League being disbanded and then by Mayor Moore outlawing vigilantism in 1984 with the Moore Act. So he's been active as a superhero since the early 90s? That's quite a while; has he made any friends in the business in the last fifteen-odd years? What kind of reputation has he accumulated during his long career?

If you drop a point off your Strength, Dex, Con, and Cha you'll have another four points to spend without actually changing your Stat modifiers any. Something to think about, anyway.

Saves: 15pp

Toughness: +8 (+2 Con, +4 protection, +2 undercover vest)

OK, so he doesn't have "turn into a dragon" powers? Because I'd be really dubious about his vest working when he's thirty feet long, or whatever.

Ah. Are you intending him to be so very far below his combat caps? Because that's up to you, but right now it looks like he has very little capacity to do any damage in combat without use of his Ritualist feat. Why are his wings Subtle? (e.g. are they quiet like owl's wings, do they retract, etc)

I am dubious about this use of the Noticeable drawback if his scales aren't clearly visible at all times.

I generally like the sheet and backstory, Ak. It's novel, but makes sense, and ties into the setting.

Link to comment

In his dragon form he's not much bigger than when in his human form. I didn't intend him to be so far below the combat caps, I adjusted his shield and strike powers to up his combat capabilities and his wings act like owl's wings.

Link to comment

OK, Akmenos.

Do you want this character to be able to meet his caps in combat? Right now it looks like he's got +9 with his strike but only does +8 Damage with it, just as he's got a Defense of +9 and a Toughness of +8. (He's got 3 ranks of Shield, not 2) If you do want him to meet his combat caps, my advice is to shuffle his points around enough to buy three ranks of Attack Focus: Melee and three ranks of Defensive Roll. That'll make him +12 Attack/+8 Damage, and Defense +12/Toughness +8.

As for getting bigger, remember that you do want to buy ranks in the actual Growth power. Or does he just get cosmetically bigger?

If you want a good dragon build, why not cannibalize it from something like Kreuzritter's work here? I like what you've done with the character's backstory, but you do want to explain what he's been doing with himself as a superhero. You're doing good here, you just need to get the finer points worked out.

Link to comment

OK, well, I won't make you meet your combat caps if you don't want to. The only thing left is the Noticeable drawback, then. Do you want the character to be able to pass for human in his secret identity? If so, he really can't be Noticeably scaly. You will also want to make sure to tally up and edit your points spent, as with your edits they no longer match.

Observation: if the wings cannot be used as a shield while in flight, you can have Shield be an Alternate Power of Flight.

Observation #2: The "Flame Sword" spell seems... odd. Without Mighty, it only does as much damage as his normal punch; the only difference is the type of damage (flame rather than bludgeoning).
