The Hunt.

There was a tinge of winter in the air that night a figure in a hooded raincoat walked down the dismal street of shops. It paused in front of the electronics store, watching the TV displayed inside. It was showing the evening news, and they seemed to be doing a special on the legendary "Cold Blood Killer", a superhero (or vigilante, depending upon how one viewed his intimidating and rather violent (yet non-lethal) methods) who legends say had been operating in the Freedom area since the early 1800s, though records were spotty on the matter. There was a short timeline done on the legend as it grew through the years, the segment ending with an interview with a few of the people who'd seen Cold Blood the last time he'd appeared about 10 years ago.

A local man walked up beside the stranger as the latter was watching the segment. Perhaps in an effort to be friendly the newcomer said "Don't listen to that junk. It's just another urban legend. No one's ever actually gotten any proof that this 'Cold Blood' guy exists."

"Hmm," the stranger replied.

"I bet all those 'eyewitnesses' are really just crazies who want 15â€â€"

At that moment the show was displaying a sketch of the most commonly reported appearance of Cold Blood: a hooded raincoat, a black rubber mask that covered the face below the eyes, and dark goggles. The stranger turn his face toward the newcomer, and revealed exactly what was being shown on TV.

The newcomer back up for a moment, but regained his composure quickly. "Jesus, don't scare people like that. Let me guess, you're some Cold Blood fan. Or is this some Halloween costume you're wearing late?"

The stranger shrugged. Then he looked up toward the edge of the store's roof and vanished in a cloud of mist, visible for a moment at the edge before vanishing across the top of the city.

When the shop owner closed a few minutes later he found a man standing almost motionless outside, staring up at the edge of the roof. "Something wrong?" the owner asked.

"Iâ€â€Iâ€â€Iâ€â€I SAW HIM!"

"Who?"

"COLD BLOOD! He's back."

************************************

Cold Blood smiled to herself as she teleported from roof-top to roof-top, scanning the alleys below for signs of trouble. Scaring bystanders was rapidly becoming thee best part of the hunt.

The middle of the night. Maelstrom's favorite part of the day. He was looking for something easy, after the scene at the casino. He soon picked vandalism, the most simple crime in existence. He found a car, and threw it into the air. Then he tossed up another one. And another. He juggled all three cars, then smashed them together. He through the resulting smashed hunk of metal as high into the air as he could, and walked away. Maelstrom was practically begging for a hero to stop him.

Cold Blood was just about to step into a teleport when she heard the sounds of metal being crushed. She paused a moment to try and discern the direction they were coming from, but that action was rendered pointless when a large ball of metal shot up into the sky. Cold Blood was more than a little surprised, but she noted where the ball had come from and teleported to the roofs above that area.

Looking down over the scene Cold Blood noticed several people gesturing wildly down the street as they described what had happened to others coming on the scene. Cold Blood teleported in that direction, and eventually noticed a man in big goggles and a white lab coat, certainly out of place. Her suspicions were confirmed when he proceeded to produce a gust of wind that knocked over another car. 'Super-villain. Hopefully not more than I can bite off, let alonge chew.'

Taking a moment to let him get distracted by playing with some more cars she teleported directly behind him and sucker-kicked his kidneys.

Barely shrugging off the kick from nowhere, Maelstrom turned around to face his attacker. She looked fairly normal, but something was... off. He dismissed it, and focussed on throwing something at her. Since all the cars and streetlights in the area were probably in the low stratosphere by now, he flew back a few feet and blasted her with a raw gust of air. But his aim was off, so all that happened was a slight updraft.

Cold Blood didn't even flinch as the blast of wind passed harmlessly to one side. Her opponent was tougher than she had thought at first, so she switched tactics. She let the shivering core of her spirit rise and sent it streaming at the wind-controller. Hopefully it would shake his resolve as it did so many others.

Shrugging off his short-lived terror, Maelstrom saw the attack coming, and blew it away with a light breeze. "What did you think mist was going to do to someone that can control air?" he yelled, and tried to think of a suitable counter-attack. He found an object that he had missed before: an old fashion cylindrical metal garbage can. He remotely tossed the lid into the air, and sent it flying towards his opponent.
