Dr Archeville

Recommended Posts

A timeline for all the things the PCs have done in Freedom City, similar to the timeline from the Freedom City setting book. It'll help us know when things happened, which can be useful for planning certain adventurers. It can also serve as a handy index for what all's gone on here.

Nov 1, 2007: Sword-wielding battlesuit pilot Shinken, seeking a sparring partner, is directed to martial-arts vigilante Nightrival by his teacher Master Lee. Shinken starts out helping him find his feet as a hero, but eventually takes a back seat to the young man's impressive skills as the two hunt down Zoom dealers and shut down a warehouse guarded by the mysterious but misguided supervillian Nanowire. A brief battle ensues: Nanowire appears to have the advantage to begin with, but turns on his employers when it becomes apparent that he's guarding dangerous drugs- a fact that he was not informed of. (The first half of this story was presented in the thread A Friendly Sparring Match, the second in The Raid.)

Nov 5, 2007: Shinken and Nightrival reunite in the Freedom League's famous Wreck Room to test their skills against visiting street toughs, ninjas, and soldiers- and finally, each other! Shinken wins two falls out of two in an exciting and acrobatic match. (The second of the parallel sequences of events presented in A Friendly Sparring Match )

The sparring match between Legionnaire and Mongrel Angel gets out of hand when the time-lost Roman goes into a seeming berserk fury, but Emissary and Captain Wonder break it up before anyone is too seriously injured. Captain Wonder helps Legionnaire return to his own time. (A Day At the Super-Gym)

April 23rd, 2008: Emissary tries to continue/expand his prior training session by organizing a charity event. What I need from you:

Look over the timeline, see if anything in it massively contradicts what you've experienced in your adventures, or is just flat-out wrong. If so, let me know.

If there are older adventures which I didn't cover but you want to add, write up a brief summary (like I've done above) and post it in the thread.

When you start a new adventure, please write up a brief summary (like the ones above) and post it in this thread. Be sure to include the title of the adventure, linked to the IC thread of the adventure.

If you want to add some semi-authentic atmosphere to your game, here're some handy tools:

Weather Underground

Complete Sun & Moon Data

I use Atlantic City, NJ as the location for those sites when I need something for Freedom. (Why that city? Here's why, though I admit there are also compelling arguments for it being in Virginia, possibly on the Chesapeake Bay. )

Do note that this does not mean Freedom City is in the same spot as/replaces Atlantic City, NJ. Both exist, just like Chicago, Gotham City, Metropolis and New York City all exist in the DC Universe.

The Welcome to Claremont thread began on Sun 28th September as a follow-on to this airport thread (Sat September 13th) so I think Claremont would start on that Monday, the 8th September. THat sound about right?

Oct 7th, 2008: Geckoman & Quark team up for some wacky hijinx. (A Portal without a Cube)

I'd place this as a couple of weeks after the start of the Claremont year, as they arranged it in that thread.

Jan 5th, 2009: Geckoman undergoes his Placement Test at Claremont. (Placement Tests -- Geckoman)

I'd also place this at the start of September, as it sets his classes for the year. I'd similarly maybe put all the placement tests at Claremont within a couple of days of each other.

And could you add this one please:

September 4th, 2008: Arrowhawk makes his FC debut, attacking a mob casino, fighting a super-powered thug and meeting Foreshadow. (The Quicker You Start, The Quicker You'll Finish)

Saves me forever checking back to see when his debut was...

Monday Sept 8th would be Labor Day, so there'd be no classes ;)

Monday August 25th as first day of classes?

Sunday the 24th for Welcome Back?

Saturday the 23rd for A Windy Day at Jordan International Airport? Or should that be further back?

I'd place this as a couple of weeks after the start of the Claremont year, as they arranged it in that thread.

If school stat Aug 25th, Oct 7th is 5 weeks after school starts.

Easy enough to do. One or two per day, probably, in successive order.

Done :)

Being a Scot, I actually had to go google why there'd be no work on Labor Day... Yeah, I could see August 25th for first day of classes. The Welcome and airport threads'd be on the same day, probably the Saturday so trhey could get settled in.

Yeah, that probably sounds about right due to the hecticness of the start of school.

All that work to set up a Claremont team and half the players vanished...

You mean in Scotland, you have to work on Labor Day?! Why, that's just un-American!

Oh, wait...

All that work to set up a Claremont team and half the players vanished...

At least Gecko and Quark are still quite the dynamic duo.

So the events' dates of occurrence are based on the date the thread was started, and adjusted ad hoc for any threads for which this creates an obvious contradiction?

Just trying to get a handle on how to date some of my older threads.

That's what I'm going by, yes, as it seemed the easiest way. If you've got definite dates in mind, lemme hear 'em!

(The first half of this story was presented in the thread A Friendly Sparring Match, the second in The Raid. My thanks to Barnum for NPCing Shinken in The Raid due to my sudden and rude disappearance.)

Nov 9, 2007: Freedom City's prestigious Midnight Society meets. In a curious coincidence, the meeting contains a number of heroes- most but not all in their secret identities- despite its normally exclusive 'no capes' rule. (The Midnight Society

There is the origins of the placement thread (titled Shaking off the Cobwebs) that should go just before the welcome to claremont thread. Something to the effect of "High Note is evaluated at the start of the new school year."

How much longer before? Spring semester of the prior year (first half of June or earlier)? A summer session? During a break between sessions?

[something], 2008: High Note undergoes his Placement Test at Claremont. (Shaking Off the Cobwebs)

I'd say, May 24th sounds good. Right before the summer. Actually, I beleive his test actually happened during the arrival of the others. Stephanie mentioned the test in that thread so the same day of that thread works well.

Ah, so the same day, right?

Aug 24th, 2008: Warren McCue, also known as Leviathan, and Lady Iconica run into each other while Warren is waiting for a taxi at the airport. While talking, Lullaby and Quark approach and join in the conversation. They four, plus a late-to-the-party Geckoman, all board a bus to the Claremont Academy.(A Windy Day at Jordan International Airport)

Geckoman, Echi Haimura, Ionica, Leviathan, Lullaby, and Quark all arrive at and settle in to the Claremont Academy, just in time for classes to start. High Note helps to welcome them. (Welcome to Claremont Academy)

Later that day, High Note undergoes his Placement Test at Claremont. (Shaking Off the Cobwebs)

That work?

Yes, that is correct, according to the RPs of that day.
