Insightful Reflexes

This is a D&D feat from Complete Adventurer. The fluff being "Your keen intellect allows you an uncanny knack for evading dangerous effects". It allows you to put your Int mod in place of your Dex mod for Reflex saves. Would this be allowed here?

Let us think about this one for a bit. The main difference between the D&D feat and the potential M&M feat is the investment cost. You only get a limited number of feats in D&D, so choosing Insightful Reflexes means you're giving up other things which might help you more (e.g., a wizard that takes that feat could be taking Spell Focus, making their spells more likely to take effect). In M&M, it's a single power point for a pretty large benefit. We have approved a similar feat (Speed of Thought), which substitutes Int for Dex in determining Initiative, so like I said, we'll discuss this one as well.

I personally think such a feat may a bit too point efficient. If we have a character with Int 40 and Dex 10 who takes it, then they save 14 PP on buying up their reflex save the usual way.

Also one thing to remember about the Speed of Thought feat, then Initiative costs only 0.25 PP per +1 (since Improved Initiative is +4 per rank).

Except for dozens of skills, including crafts and knowledges and it is the most important component of several feats.

This discussion is why I asked for permission. And the fact of bringing feats from other games is sorta question-worthy also ;)

An option could be to stage the feat; something like 1 rank gets you half your INT mod and 2 ranks gets you your full INT mod. If abuse is really a worry, you could instead cap the benefit, basically saying that intelligence only gets you so far without the dexterity to back it up, with the result being that someone could only get +5 or +10 or whatever is deemed appropriate above what they would get if they were using their dex mod(e.g., if the cap was +5, someone with an INT of 24(+7) and a DEX of 14(+2) would get the full benefit of his/her INT bonus (7-2=5), but a character with the same INT but a DEX of 12(+1) would only get +6 from the feat (7-1=6, which is over the cap, so it is reduced to the cap of 5). You could even use both if you were really concerned. Hope this helps!

After we discussed it, we felt that allowing this feat gave too great an advantage to Intelligence. Insightful Reflexes isn't approved for the site. You can still buy up the Reflex save directly with the descriptor that it's due to his advanced intellect.
