Forceful Ops

"I can't believe I took that long to remember," Hub says to himself as he recognizes the two villains. He glances down at his costume. It looks like he could have remained in street clothes for all he's doing, but there are definitely more metahumans here than anyone could have reasonably expected. That noted, he'll go with the indirect route of helping them. The clerk being entangled by Grab suddenly finds himself feeling much stronger and capable of breaking free. At the same time, he'll reach down and start pulling on his pants again.

"They never covered this in Superhero 101," he thinks to himself ruefully.

Nightrival ducks as a noodly appendage swings over his head; he doesn't allow the tap on his shoulder to distract him from the task at hand. Besides, who would bother him in a time like this? As he struggles with the crook's enlongated fingers, he feels the added strength flowing through him like molten lava. Nightrival tugs at the stretchy hand again, leaning as far back as he can.

"Now's the time to make a hasty escape, pal," he grunts at the clerk.

Replying to Aristodemus, Red Star says "Fine, I'll try it your way." With that, Red Star promptly stops flying, and drops about a foot to the ground. He takes just a moment to plant his feet like Aristodemus did, and throws a vicious haymaker at Smash, attempting to mimic Aristodemus' own attack. His stance is utterly full of holes, and the attack itself is quite sloppy, but Red Star's fiery arm apparently has mounds of power behind it. After connecting with his attack, Red Star turns and smiles at Aristodemus "Okay. I admit it. That was a good tip."

"Ah, that's more like it. You have a few flaws, but nothing time can't fix. Now watch this move."

Aristodemus rushes up to the big guy and then jumps to deliver a powerful knee kick to the solar plexus, followed by an elbow strike to the forehead.

Then he turns to the red glowing youngster.

"For your information, that was Cambodian*. Name's Aristodemus." He extends a hand to the kid, expecting an answer from him while the big guy must be knocked out by now.

The clerk fills himself get stronger, faster, tougher -- all somewhat familiar feelings. The increased thinking speed, awareness, and sense of self-worth are a bit new, though.

His work done, Hub pulls his pants back on.

Nightrival tries to pry Grab's hands off the clerk, but even with the boost to his strength and speed from Hub, he cannot pry her loose from the clerk.

Arrowhawk's arrows strike the woozy, wobbly Rocko, three right to his forehead, but he must have a very thick skull, as he doesn't seem to register the impact.

Red Star mimics the Spartan's movements exactly -- well, exactly sloppily -- hitting Smash in almost precisely the same spot. And there is much the same result, as the craggy-featured giant gasps out the air he'd just taken in, and he actually staggers back a few steps!

Shade unleashes a slew of potent shadow-blasts at Grab, and most of them hit... but the eerily-solid bolts of shadow bounce harmlessly off her unsettlingly rubbery body. When they hit, she does stretch a bit, making the sound of a stretching rubber balloon.

Grab's attention turns from Nightrival to Shade. "Oh, you wanna play, too?" Her free hand snakes out, darting this way and that, but Shade is easily able to anticipate the trick she's trying to pull... but when she does strike, it's too fast for him to react, and her hand begins to elongate and wrap around him!

Smash stands but does nothing, at least nothing useful. He is clearly punch-drunk...

... and so all the easier a target for the Spartan's impressive combo. However, as impressive as they look, neither seem to affect the big lug -- the first blow, to his solar plexus, must not have worked because it was so recently stimulated, and the second, to his forehead, well, ArrowHawk's assault already showed how hard that thing is.

The clerk still grappled by Grab tries to wriggle out with his newfound strength, but fails utterly.

The punk couple continue ooh-ing and aah-ing, as do the few onlookers still gathered outside.

Finally registering that things are going far better combating Smash than they are at combating Grab, Red Star decides its time to switch tactics. As he takes to the air he shouts to the Spartan and Arrowhawk "Keep him busy. I'll help the others." With that Red Star flies over to where the bulk of Grab's stretchy mass is and attempts to grab her but fails to even get within a foot of her rubbery form. Having had his hand awkwardly grab open air a moment ago Red Star weakly adds "Um, come and get it?"

Geez, what's with that lousy line? Kids don't know how to throw a good one these days.

Aristodemus stands alone in front of the giant, who is surprisingly still standing. Though it's clear that he will not do much in this pretty much one-sided fight. To Aristodemus' big surprise, his combo attack he learned in Cambodia did nothing!

Best to try another technique. "Hey, archer! Fire at his feet! I'm going to something nasty to his head."

Aristodemus bent his legs down and set his hand to put another haymaker, this one on Smash's face. But one would take a close look, that's not how you stand when planting a haymaker punch.

Instead, he jumps up from his stance and attempt to hit Smash on the side of his head with a kick with the boot, but misses narrowly with the foot just sliding on the head and then falls down to the floor.

"Ah, @#$*." He said in Greek.

With all of his clothes back on, Kevin does one last quick check to make sure his uniform isn't sticking out anywhere. That done, he looks around the room with his chi vision to see if anyone is injured. It looks like only one person is (besides the villains), and he moves out from behind the display. The viridian green fades from his eyes as he prepares to heal the injured man, who appears to be glowing a red that's the exact chromatic opposite of his own energy.

Ignoring the cacophony all around him, Nightrival's only concern is to make sure the customers get out safely, including the poor clerk. The stretchy woman is more troublesome than he assumed. Her slithering, serpentine body appears to be everywhere at once, and grabbing her is like holding onto a gushing firehose that is thrashing around the room. He throws her rubbery arm over his shoulder and leaps back onto the counter in one quick lunge.

"Let him go!"

Hub looks about and makes plans.

Shadowboxer pulls the serpentine arm of the woman away, freeing the clerk. Her other hand still snaked around the other shadow fellow, though.

Arrowhawk's arrows go a bit wide, hitting where Smash was but not where he is.

Red Star fails in his attempt to grapple the taffy-like woman.

Shade is oddly frozen up. He had been sure to look around, be alert to any danger, but saw something he did not expect: one of the guys in the crowd looked almost exactly like his brother.

"Damnit, Smash, snap out of it!" the woman says as part of her lashes out at Red Star and begins to loop around him. Amazingly, he pushes her away with seemingly little effort! "You're supposed to be the muscle here! Help me!"

Smash finally steadies himself and glares at the Spartan, and staggers towards him. "Me Smash!" A large, ham-sized fist speeds towards the Spartan's face. His millennia of experience allow him to trn just right so he does not take the brunt of it, and so suffers only a minor injury from it.

Twisting as he had, though, meant that he was in a different position/stance than he was before, causing his own attack to miss.

The two cowering punks continue cowering near the front of the store and looking at the big brawl.

Hub reaches out with his chi, re-aligning Red Star's. It reacts strangely, but truth be told, he doesn't have a lot of experience with how it's supposed to feel. Back when he didn't know what he was, he used his power instinctively. Now that he is paying closer attention, he can feel more from it.

The moment Aristodemus landed with his hands on the floor, he rolled away from Smash in an attempt to get in a better attack. Realising that he was lucky in avoiding the giant's attack, he had to think this over.

That was a dangerous attack. I would have been smacked away if it had hit. Alright. Time to bring out the big stuff.

He jumped up towards Smash's face and planted a vicious punch on Smash's temple!*

Nightrival gives himself a moment to survey the fight. By the looks of things, the bruiser standing in the middle of the store already has his hands full. Now if only I can get th' bystanders ta hustle, he thinks.

Still holding onto a grossly enlogated appendage, he turns to the customers huddled on the floor.

"Ya folks better get outta here," he orders them. "Use th' window if ya hafta!" He looks at the newly freed clerk. "An' ya get movin' too!"

He shifts as though he's about to jump off the counter, but instead of landing on the floor he pushes himself off the counter with his hands and drives his feet into Stretchy Lady's jaw.

Hub uses his powers of chi-realignment to heal the crimson-glowing teen/young adult.

Nightrival's acrobatic flip does successfully catch Grab off-guard, but even so her own malleable body instinctively bobs away from his flying feet.

Arrowhawk's arrow flies true, but grazes a particularly thick slab of muscle, having no real effect. And he doesn't seem phazed by the taunts.

Red Star again tries to grab the green-clad woman, but just misses her serpentine body.

The shadowy man... is nowhere to be seen.

"Smash, get these two off me!," Grab shouts as she looks back and forth between Nightrival and Red Star. The lower half of her body again tries to wrap around the Crimson Kid.

Smash's ham-sized fist again speeds towards the Spartan's face, but misses by a country mile. This causes the loopy, staggering brute to "Wharrgarbl!" in frustration.

The Spartan's short jump catches Smash relatively off-guard, but the giant turns just enough at the very last moment so the blow does not hit square in the temple. It does, at least, knock his head back a bit.

Red Star's luck finally runs out as Grab coils around him. "Ah crap. This is gonna end badly."

[PLACE HOLDER]

Panicked for a moment, Red Star wondered how he was going to get out of this situation. But then he noticed something, she had all she could do just to hold onto him. As the idea came to him, Red Star let out a small laugh. As his laugh died, so did all the light he had been radiating. There was a small pause before Red Star brought all of his Herculean strength to bear with a defiant roar.

"I think we're gonna stick around," Nightrival says to the Stretchy Lady.

When he hears her refer to the hulking brute standing at the back of the store as "Smash," he attempts to remember if he has heard that name before on the street. And hopefully me and the glowin' kid can take her down 'fore he lumbers over here.

He tumbles backwards and jumps off the counter in one motion. He arcs over Stretch and slams his elbow into the top of her skull, and then lands on the floor between her and the front window.

"Unless ya wanna give up. Then maybe we'll stop beatin' on the two of ya."

Kevin looks from side to side. Smash keeps getting hit, but he just won't go down. For that matter, Nightrival's dancing partner isn't doing too bad for herself either. Neither of the two seem to be getting closer to going down, and all of the punching is starting to look more brutal than effective. He tries to draw Nightrival's attention, and motions for him to try to get one of them out of sight of the rest of the group. He can still knock them out without giving himself away to his targets, but it would be pretty obvious to anyone watching that he had something to do with it.

Aristodemus is gaining ground on the big lump. Of course, anyone would if the giant has been taking blows to vital points and been the target for arrow shots all the time. But being a superior fighter, Aristodemus decided to follow his old friend Muhammad's advice: be merciful.

"Okay. I've been bashing at you for the last..." He stops to check the time. "eighteen seconds. And now I will try to let you off the hook. Just give yourself up and I will not rip out your guts." That last bit wasn't true, as Aristodemus had given up his killings in city life a long time ago. Mostly due to him ending up in jail every time.

"So what do you do?"

Hub carefully and quietly observes, waiting for the right moment to strike.

Nightrival's fancy footwork suceeds in throwing Grab off-balance enough to land a solid blow... which is largely absorbed by her rubbery form. [see OOC thread for more info.]

Arrowhawk takes aim with his bow...

... as Red Star shoves Grab off of him with a defiant roar!

"Oh, screw this," Grab mutters as she pulls herself tighter together. Her legs and lower torso zip past Red Star and Nightrival, then she compresses herself into a ball which has a few random dollar bills sticking out of it. "See you boys later!," she says as she pushes off against the counter and shoots across tot he other side of the street.

"L'Ann? L'Ann!!!" Smash shouts as he sees hi partner bounce away. He seems disheartened at this.

The Spartan took this temporary lull as an opportunity to try and calm the man-mountain down more thoroughly...

... but something in Smash snapped, and he instead launched a ham-sized fist at the Spartan. Fortunately for the immortal hero, this attack was as uncoordinated and wide as a house, and missed him completely.
