Nicole

It was dark in the room save the red light from the alarms and Nicole sat alone in that room, a table set in front of her. Her laptop sat there, facing her.

The klaxons blared throughout the Mojave Installation but it was almost silent where Nicole sat save for the low clicking and beeping from the various machines that filled the room. Nicole had commissioned them from the Installation and Vegas had obliged her. Wires and cords and capacitors ran all across the floor, weaving around until they converged into one and entered Nicole's laptop. Another cable snaked from her laptop to strap around the Horologium. With mundane technology and a little bit of ritual magic she had connected the entire installation to the Horologium. A contest of will between two inanimate objects.

In a way, it was exciting to see what would happen.

As the seconds ticked by the red light flickered, each time turning the room pitch black. She had most everything she needed save for one whose presence was most valuable, yet even as the battle above continued she waited patiently in her wheelchair. Then with an unseen cue Nicole took a tarot deck from her side and drew a card, sliding it facedown on the table.

The lights failed again, sending the room in an all-consuming darkness, and when they powered back Bellios loomed across the table from Nicole. Its visor, mirror-shined to perfection, was impassive as it regarded her, but when Nicole flipped her drawn card, she could see her grin's reflection turn bloody, red from the alarm's light.

"The Tower. Quite apropos given the circumstances, wouldn't you say?"

She pocketed the remaining cards and raised her hands to her face as her sight left her but Nicole did not fret. She remembered where everything was.

Only Bellios' visor glowed a dark red.

"Now, let's begin."

Nicole's tinkering was a success, it seemed. Through her mix of both science and the arcane, she had connected her laptop to the Horologium. It had not been easy, and who knew how long it would work? No matter, it seemed like it would work for now, and that would have to be good enough. All she needed now was to put it into use.

The cannonball from the nearest ship had smashed into Zenith's barrier, weakening it once more, but without breaking through, but the second ship, still approaching, shot once more, yet another glowing cannonball flying through the sky. Below, the young heroes could only barely make out the pirates of the second ship singing shanties about rum and treasure.

She could keep this up all day, reforming the barrier after every impact.  But she was quite simply done. Zenith reached up with her hand and slowly made a fist, her arm shaking slightly with the effort as a loud, hollow THOOM burst away from her with a visible shockwave.  Her crackling, distorting light wreathed around the the leading ship like a white digital fire, making the flaring from her eyes that extended outwards from her face.

And then it turned it's course, making the trajectory of her hand as she moved it in front of her, and it steered back, moving it towards other ship and placing it between to stop them both from firing.  She moved it easily, and she was just as easily going to ram those two ships together like she was playing with children's toys.

The pirate ship started to move, with Forever Boy and White Lioness clearly feeling the effect as it turned and approached the other. It seemed that Zenith's plan worked, at least for now, even as the pirate at the helm lunged for the wheel, desperately trying to fight it.

On the ground, the cannons that had been deployed started firing at the pirates that surrounded Mrs. Thursday. Light blue bursts of energy, two of them hitting, but seeming to have little effect on the pirates.

On the ground, the single pirate that Thunderbird had not taken down did not flinch, yelling a rather incoherent curse about Thunderbird's mother as he swung the cutlass in right hand towards the teenage weather controller, though he passed far by his intended target, drawing another curse from him. Inside the smaller dome that Zenith stood on top, Astrid was dealing with her own bunch of pirates. While two more appeared from the glowing light of the cannonball, Ms. Thursday quickly became the target of the ones already inside the dome. Cutlasses already in their hands, they yelled and laughed as they swung at her. The first might have missed, but the second managed to connect with her side.

For a moment after hearing the pirate's curse regarding his mother, Thunderbird went still. Very still. So did the air all around them. Then a stiff breeze picked up. The pirate might notice the hairs on his arms and head standing up as the breeze carried the scent of ozone on it. Above his head, the sky swirled with pitch-black micro-clouds. Sparks flew back and forth between the clouds, glowing green.

Thunderbird floated up from the ground, his body covered in hazy green energy, wings upon his back gaining definition and apparent density as they glowed brighter. His eyes were solid points of light, and his face twisted into a snarl.

"Don't you dare talk about my mother!"

One hand reached to the sky, and a solid bar of lightning as thick as a man's arm raced down to his palm, where it formed something almost like a spear. He twirled it, tossed it to his other hand, and hurled it toward the pirate. The twin thunder-cracks as it seared the space from cloud to hero and hero to pirate were, if not deafening, then certainly not fun. It was likely even less enjoyable when the near-solid bolt of electricity struck the cutlass-wielding miscreant center-mass.

The unlucky pirate, the last one standing near Thunderbird, one might add, probably shouldn't have mentioned anything about the young man's mother. No, now that he stared at the lightning that struck the youth's hand, that much was very clear to the pirate. In the brief second before the spear of lightning collided with his chest, the pirate raised his hands, waving them in front of himself, starting to stammer an apology. Then he was thrown back with the force of lightning as it struck him. Charred, burnt, but somehow still alive, he wriggled and groaned on the ground, drawing more than a few stares from his fellow pirates.

White Lioness

Staying low Àjàṣorò looked around at the pirate getting a feel for the foes she was about to face, and whilst the Lion spirit had centuries of experience she only had a decade tops. Still, she was confident they’d be an easy enough fight.

Maybe a little too confident, she swept her  leg out in a lazy blow, hoping to catch them off guard, but apparently the crew must have been used to fight unorthodox foes as her attack didn't seem to be affected.

Still, it was only a minor setback, she had the confidence of youth that she was going to be able to stop them.

Veronica Danger

Veronica watched from her Danger Cycle as the pirate ship she had just dropped Àjàṣorò onto pulled sharply away and tried to ram into the other vessel. The teenage Danger was not sure what had caused the sudden change in the direction of the first pirate ship, but it certainly served to throw them both into more chaos.

Engaging the engine once more, the Veronica sped after the pirate ship. Once she had caught up with the vessel, she landed the cycle behind Àjàṣorò to be better able to support her friend and classmate as they tried to neutralize the pirates on the vessel.

Forever Boy

The ships moved, and it was, quite frankly, marvelous. Whoever was doing it clearly knew what they were doing, and the sheer power that was needed? Now, wasn't that quite something? Pan could see Aja cutting across the pirates, moving faster than they could follow, but even to her skills, the pirates were hardened combatants, or maybe just plain lucky. Luck often seemed to play a role in their victories, after all.

With the thick fog rolling over the ship, Pan dove towards them, Pixie Dust gathering in his hand, coalescing into a glowing, golden longsword. He laughed as stopped next to the White Lioness, swinging his sword across the chest of a pirate, who fell back at his blow. "Come now, shall we show them what we can do?"

On the flying ship, the pirates fumbled through the fog, swinging their blades wildly. Pan's laugh drew them to him, with a multitude of curses thrown his way. Oh, they knew him, that much was sure, and they hated him. Still, even as they found him by his laugh, their cutlasses cut through nothing but fog and air, as they tried to reach heroes. "Get the women, too!" one of the pirates yelled, only to be felled by Pan's glowing blade.

The ship moved in front of the other, getting dangerously close. It was only a matter of time before they collided, unless the man at the helm of the other ship managed to steer clear. The pirate steering the first ship had abandoned his post, joining the melee in the heavy fog.

On the ground, the pirates started striking against the small dome that held them, again and again, doing all they could to break it.

"Hey pirate asshats!"

Up on the roofdeck, Nicole held a loudspeaker to her lips. On the other hand she held the Horologium above her head where everyone could see it. Even through Thunderbird's fog, it shone dully from the light in Zenith's dome. Multi-colored and burnt like glass heated too long in the forge.

She drove towards the edge of the roof to where one of the pirate ships was hovering just beyond Zenith's dome and where Forever Boy, White Lioness and Veronica were fighting on its deck. Then she waved the Horologium again just to make sure she had their attention.

"Yeah, I know what you want. I know what all you peg-legged storybook rejects are here for! But it's alllll for nothing, you hear me!"

Her laptop was on her lap and a wire ran from one of its harddrive ports to the Horologium. Big red numbers on the laptop's screen gave a countdown and when she glanced at the didplay she gave a big grin.

Fifty-four seconds. Fifty-three seconds and counting.

She wouldn't stop it if she could but no one needed to know the Horologium had less than a minute left.

"One push of this button and the Horologium is blown to smithereens! So stay and get beat up or run away back to Neverworld, cause no matter what happens Hook isn't taking the Horologium!"
